00:00To all our umpire coordinators, it's a massive job that they've got to coordinate two competitions like this.
00:07Well the Barristock became alive. Ridley Barristock sponsored the 2007 World Cup and it was a magnificent event.
00:16And after that they said, well, we cannot let this legacy die. We need to continue on and create something.
00:22So we did that and here's what we've ended up with today.
00:27It's been a wonderful training ground for a lot of players.
00:31I think we've introduced a numerous amount of players to play at this level.
00:35They've gone on to play state at higher level, they've gone on to play international pole lacrosse and I think
00:40it's vitally important.
00:41But more than that, it's brought a lot of the players out of the club teams all over Queensland and
00:46New South Wales.
00:47We've got players playing here from Thagemendera, Cuttermuller and Quilby and we've got players on the east coast,
00:53Coffs Harbour and Lismore, down south to Albury, Wodonga.
00:57They're all out of club teams and our club teams are just so important to keep the game alive.
01:04And these players come out of their club teams, play in a state team, get a taste of what it
01:08is to play at the top level
01:09and then they go back and train their club players back at their club level.
01:13And it's very, very important.
01:15We play the Barristock Interstate Series in parallel with the 4X Shell Cup competition
01:22and we do that to attract the club teams just as well, to come here and support the players that
01:26come out of the clubs into state teams,
01:28bring their own club teams here.
01:30I think it's vitally important that we supply a competition for both levels of the game.
01:35Has the fuel crisis impacted you at all?
01:38Oh yes, there's no question in saying that, it has.
01:41We dropped from possibly 45 to 50 club teams back to 38.
01:47So it's impacted, there's no question about that.
01:50And one would be silly to say that it hasn't.
01:53But in saying all that, it is what it is.
01:56And our people handle the adversity well.
02:01And hopefully we'll see some relief in the short term.
02:05So travel's not strides to them, it's just the cost that probably slows them down a bit.
