00:18A merchant tanker, somewhere in the dark waters near the UAE coast, suddenly struck by unknown projectiles.
00:26No warning, no claim of responsibility, just a ship hit in one of the most dangerous stretches of water on
00:33the planet.
00:34This is the Strait of Hormuz, and right now, it's a war zone.
00:39May 3rd, 2025. It's 7.40 p.m. UTC.
00:44A merchant tanker is cruising roughly 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah, UAE.
00:50That's barely a stone's throw from the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
00:54Then, projectiles. The crew survives. No environmental damage, but the message sent is crystal clear.
01:02And here's the thing, that wasn't even the only attack that day.
01:06Hours earlier, a bulk carrier heading northbound was swarmed by multiple small boats just 11 miles off the coast of
01:13Iran.
01:14Crew safe again, but two ships, one day, both in the same corridor.
01:19Here's why this matters to you, even if you've never set foot on a boat.
01:24The Strait of Hormuz is the jugular vein of global energy.
01:28Roughly 20% of the world's oil flows through that narrow passage.
01:33When ships get hit there, energy markets panic, and they have been panicking.
01:37Since the Iran conflict escalated earlier in 2026, at least two dozen attacks have targeted commercial vessels in and around
01:46the Strait.
01:47The result? Shipping traffic is way down.
01:50Fuel prices are way up.
01:52U.S. gas prices are hovering around $4.45 a gallon.
01:56And in California, even higher.
01:58This isn't just a military story.
02:01Every time a tanker gets hit, you might feel it at the pump.
02:04So what is America doing about it?
02:07On the very same day these attacks happened, President Trump announced Project Freedom, a U.S.-led operation, to escort neutral
02:15commercial vessels out of the Strait of Hormuz starting May 4th and 5th.
02:20Trump called it a humanitarian mission, getting food and supplies to crews stranded in the waterway and opening the passage
02:27for innocent ships.
02:28He also made something very clear.
02:31Interfere and there will be consequences.
02:33Iran wasn't having it.
02:35Tehran immediately labeled Project Freedom a ceasefire violation.
02:40Meanwhile, Iran reportedly submitted a 14-point peace proposal, including demands for sanctions relief.
02:47Trump described it as conceptual.
02:50In other words, talks are happening, but attacks are also happening.
02:54Nobody has claimed responsibility for the May 3rd attacks.
02:58Nobody knows exactly who fired those projectiles into that tanker near the UAE.
03:03And that uncertainty, that's almost the scariest part.
03:07Because this is a strait where one wrong move, one miscalculation could spiral fast.
03:12And the world's oil, the world's shipping lanes, and now U.S. warship escorts are all tangled up in it.
03:19The Strait of Hormuz has never felt more like a powder keg.
