00:25Iran's military just made a statement
00:27that should have every headline flashing red right now.
00:31A senior Iranian military commander has declared
00:34that a resumption of direct hostilities
00:37with the United States and Israel is,
00:40and I'm quoting here, likely.
00:42Not possible. Not feared. Likely.
00:45Let's rewind fast.
00:47The 2026 Iran war kicked off on February 28th
00:52when U.S. and Israeli forces struck Iranian military,
00:56nuclear, and leadership targets.
00:58Iran fired back. Missiles, drones, Gulf disruptions.
01:03The Strait of Hormuz closed. Oil markets went haywire.
01:07A fragile ceasefire took hold around April 7th.
01:11No major exchanges of fire since.
01:13But here's the thing. A ceasefire is not peace.
01:17The U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports
01:20has remained in place,
01:22costing Tehran billions in lost oil revenue.
01:25Talks mediated in Pakistan have gone essentially nowhere.
01:29And now both sides are making moves
01:32that suggest the pause may be running out.
01:35On Saturday, Iran's Deputy Military Headquarters Chief
01:39Mohammad Jafar Asadi put out a statement
01:42through FAR's news agency saying the evidence shows
01:46the U.S. is not committed to any agreements or treaties.
01:49He added that Iranian forces remain fully prepared
01:53for any new adventures or foolishness from the Americans.
01:57That's not diplomatic language.
02:00That's a military official telling his adversary publicly
02:03that they are locked, loaded, and expecting a fight.
02:07And Washington isn't exactly cooling things down.
02:11On May 1st, the 60-day mark under the War Powers Resolution,
02:15Trump formally told Congress that hostilities have terminated.
02:19That's a legal maneuver.
02:21It resets the clock, letting U.S. forces stay deployed in the region
02:25without needing immediate new congressional authorization.
02:29In the same breath, Trump told reporters he's
02:32not satisfied with Iran's latest peace proposal.
02:35He called Iran's leadership very disjointed and messed up.
02:40The blockade stays, and Trump has already floated the idea of options
02:45to direct, quote, blast the hell out of Iran if talks collapse completely.
02:50Why are you not seeking congressional approval to extend it?
02:54Because it's never been sought before.
02:56There's been numerous, many, many times,
02:58and nobody's ever gotten it before.
03:00They consider it totally unconstitutional.
03:02But we're always in touch with Congress.
03:04Congress, but nobody's ever sought it before.
03:07Nobody's ever asked for it before.
03:09It's never been used before.
03:11Why should we be different?
03:13You had the dead comm commander come in here yesterday.
03:16Was he briefing you on a different approach, options?
03:20What kind of options?
03:21How would it look different?
03:23I mean, do we want to go and just blast the hell out of him
03:25and finish him forever, or do we want to try and make a deal?
03:29I mean, those are the options.
03:30Do you want to go blast the hell out of him and finish him forever?
03:34On a human basis, I'd prefer not, but that's the opposite.
03:37Do we want to go in there heavy and just blast them away?
03:41Or do we want to do something?
03:44They're a very disjointed unorship, as you can understand, Peter.
03:47Very disjointed.
03:48I mean, they're not getting along with each other.
03:53And it puts us in a bad position.
03:55One group wants to make a certain deal.
03:58The other group wants to make a certain deal, including the hardliners.
04:02The hardliners want to make a deal, too.
04:04Why wouldn't they?
04:05They have no Navy.
04:06They have no Air Force.
04:07They have no anti-aircraft.
04:09They have no nothing.
04:11You know, it's a very disjointed, unfriendly leadership, unfriendly to each other.
04:16They're not getting along.
04:17They're very, very confused by what's happened because, essentially, most of their military
04:23has been wiped out.
04:24But we just had a conversation with Iran.
04:27Let's see what happens.
04:28But I would say that I am not happy.
04:32Their leadership is very disjointed, very argumentative with each other.
04:38They come back.
04:39One says one thing.
04:41One says another.
04:42They're very confused.
04:44Obviously, their country has been, frankly, decimated.
04:48Their Navy is gone.
04:49Their Air Force is gone.
04:51Many of their soldiers, unfortunately, are gone.
04:56They've got to come up with the right deal.
04:57At this moment, I'm not satisfied with what they're going to do.
05:00We have great respect for Pakistan and Islamabad and tremendous respect for the prime minister
05:08and the field marshal.
05:09And they're working with us.
05:11They continue to work with us.
05:12But the trip is a very long one.
05:14And we're doing everything in terms of negotiating right now, in terms of the negotiation telephonically.
05:23They've made strides, but I'm not sure if they ever get there.
05:30There's tremendous discord.
05:33There's tremendous – they're having a tremendous problem getting along with each other in Iran.
05:38The leadership is very disjointed.
05:41It's got two to three groups, maybe four.
05:44And it's a very disjointed leadership.
05:47And with that being said, they all want to make a deal, but they're all messed up.
05:52So one side is saying war is likely.
05:54The other is saying it's over, while keeping the Navy there and the threats warm.
05:59Here's what analysts are quietly worried about – miscalculation.
06:04Neither side appears to actually want full-scale war to resume right now.
06:09Iran is dealing with blackouts, currency collapse, and severe economic pressure.
06:14The U.S. has no appetite for another prolonged military engagement.
06:19But you've got two heavily armed forces on high alert, separated by one of the most strategically
06:25critical waterways on Earth with stalled talks, mutual distrust, and leaders on both sides
06:31making aggressive public statements.
06:34The ceasefire is holding – for now.
06:37But Iran's military just told the world they think it won't hold for long.
06:41And the signals coming out of Washington aren't doing much to prove them wrong.
