The Liberal National Party claims an historic victory, seizing the seat of Hinchinbrook from Katter's Australian party. It's the first time since 1998 that a sitting state government has gained a seat in a by-election.

01:26This by-election was very much a contest between the LNP and Katta's Australia party.
01:31The party's primary vote fell to an historic low of 8%, finishing fourth behind One Nation.
01:39Labor needs to work hard to develop policies that appeal right across Queensland.
