16:16Я думаю, это было названо «The Move» или «The Pass».
16:19«The Pass»
18:01You don't win all of the championships as a youngster if you don't have the speed,
18:09but I've still got the confidence in myself and I've also been there.
18:13I've not forgotten how to drive and it's just a little bit of a tricky run,
18:17but with four races down, a long way to go.
18:20And I think, as I said, we'll reassess things over these next few weeks.
18:24Thank you.
18:26Yeah, so let's get into George and what's been going on with him this weekend
18:32and actually this season and the pressure that he must feel under now.
18:36When you see this, God, this sport can be extremely difficult at times, can't it,
18:41if you're the receiving end?
18:42I think he's probably just like, what just happened?
18:46You know, he was the favourite and the quickest at the start of the year.
18:50And, yeah, but, I mean, Kimi's exceptionally talented.
18:53But the thing is, with George, he's confident in himself.
18:56He knows that he has the skill and I'm really happy that he's letting us all know,
19:02you know, certain things aren't right for me.
19:03And I think that's the best way to say it because then you can work on those issues moving forward.
19:09If you pull it up inside, it's the worst thing possible.
19:11So he's doing the right thing and I think he'll come out strong in Canada.
19:15When he goes to sleep at night, though, what's he really thinking?
19:19I mean, you know, will he put pressure on himself?
19:22Is he the kind of guy?
19:23I mean, we know he leaves no stone unturned, but he's got to arrest this life very quickly, doesn't he?
19:30Yeah, he's a very hard worker, just to your point.
19:32But no driver wants to be beaten by their teammates, certainly not George.
19:36You know, he's spent a lot of years at Williams, then finally made the move over to Mercedes without a
19:40competitive car.
19:41Now he's got one and his teammates have been beating him.
19:43But I think that he'll take some reassurance on the fact that Kimi hasn't been faultless, right?
19:48Like, he's going to make mistakes over the season and maybe George's consistency is going to be maybe what helps
19:53him out in the end.
19:53But he's got to contend with Kimi's raw speed and the fact that he can just deliver incredible lap time.
19:58So lots of work to be done and it's never nice, but I'm sure he can bounce back from this.
20:03He's under investigation for moving under a breaking at turn 17.
20:07We'll have another look at that when we come back.
20:10Right, DHL fastest lap this afternoon.
20:13Well, a crumb of comfort that went to Lando Norris towards the end of that race with a 1.31
20:20.869.
20:22So he gets the DHL fastest lap.
20:31But your winner for a third time in a row and the first man to convert their first three pole
20:37positions into victory.
20:39In the history of the sport, Kimi Antonelli.
20:41More reaction from here in Miami in a couple of moments' time.
20:45Don't go anywhere.
20:55A superstar born in the early part of this season.
20:58We were denied, alas, seeing Max Verstappen go toe-to-toe with Kimi Antonelli.
21:04But in the end, another stout performance.
21:07Congratulations from all of those around him.
21:10Ah, I guess for sister as well.
21:11Let's go to Karuna.
21:12Some great racing at the end.
21:18Thank you, Simon.
21:18Yeah, the last lap and a half was brilliant, wasn't it?
21:21You see Charles Leclerc there battling against Oscar Piastri.
21:24This was, of course, the final step on the podium, the battle here.
21:29So Piastri tried to attack into 11.
21:31Didn't quite get the move done there.
21:33Went for the outside.
21:34Leclerc defended.
21:35Then on the run up to 17.
21:37He's in the slipstream and then gets the move down the inside.
21:41Now, one thing I did notice here, if we go back, you can see Leclerc's driving along.
21:46He's got the straight line mode closed.
21:49So I think he's almost setting up the opportunity.
21:55He's trying to almost entice Piastri to go ahead so he can get the move done at another place.
22:00There, he pops it back open again.
22:01So there's a bit of gamesmanship going on from Charles Leclerc, where he almost wanted to be overtaken into 17.
22:08At the same time, further back, George Russell went past Max Verstappen.
22:13So that was happening a few seconds further behind.
22:16Now, unfortunately for Leclerc, whatever tactics he was trying to make work didn't work.
22:21Because when he came out at 17, he had a moment, lost momentum.
22:25Then he had a bigger moment out of turn two.
22:27Had that spin, hit the wall, and I think might have picked up some sort of damage.
22:32So as the lap unfolded, he's now no longer battling Piastri.
22:36He's now dropped into the clutches of this Russell Verstappen battle.
22:40Down the back straight, riding on board with George Russell.
22:43He went for a move down the outside.
22:44Now, they made a bit of contact.
22:46In case you missed it, I'll slow it down.
22:48Watch there.
22:49I'll play it in slow-mo.
22:50Watch the contact there.
22:52Russell coming across a bit, and they just touch.
22:56And he is, I think, being investigated for this particular bit here, George Russell, by the stewards.
23:02They're moving under braking.
23:03Let's have a look at it from Max Verstappen's cockpit, because he had the best view.
23:08And once again, up ahead, you can see there is Russell.
23:13Russell and Leclerc.
23:15And George does come over there a little bit to the left.
23:19You can see this gap.
23:21That's what Ferrari will be saying.
23:23He's deviated from the racing line in the braking zone.
23:26So that's what Ferrari would have alerted to the stewards.
23:29That's where the investigation is probably coming from.
23:32So we'll see what happens when George goes to speak to them.
23:35But Leclerc, out of the last corner, I think he used all of his battery to try and defend on
23:40the way into 17,
23:41and then ran out of juice, which allowed Verstappen to just pip him to the line.
23:45We must remember, Max, of course, is still being investigated for the pit exit.
23:50And maybe I'll quickly show you that as well, because that will have an impact.
23:54See here, this is where we have to just have a quick look.
23:59Does he go over the white line on that frame?
24:04It does look like, to me, it's quite close.
24:07We need really an off-board rearward camera to see whether the rear tyres have gone over,
24:11and that's what the stewards will be looking at.
24:13Back to you, Simon.
24:15Yeah, he's going to the stewards in about half an hour for that.
24:19We'll talk about Max when we come back.
24:21I think we're going to focus, if we could, right now on the Ferrari drivers.
24:25They're 6th and 7th in the end for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
24:29Let's start with Charles Leclerc, who had that horrible moment right at the last lap.
24:34Charles, I don't think anyone can say you weren't trying out there today.
24:36I mean, you got a fantastic lead through your start, and then lost out in the pit stops,
24:41and then that last lap heartbreak as well.
24:44Can you just tell me what was going on and where it went away from you today?
24:48My mistake?
24:48I mean, it's all on me, and I don't have much to add other than that.
24:54Very disappointed with my mistake.
24:58It shouldn't happen.
24:59I've pushed very hard in the second to last lap.
25:01I thought it was a good idea to kind of let Oscar go for me to get the overtake.
25:08I knew it was going to be very difficult to stand in front otherwise.
25:14But, yeah, I mean, it was very poor decisions,
25:18and in the space of four corners, I put a very strong race in the bin,
25:22so I'm very frustrated about that.
25:27Yeah, not much more to say.
25:28Sadly, you have to go to the stewards as well,
25:30because they're saying you left the track too many times to gain an advantage.
25:33But also, I think they're looking at whether or not you drove the car
25:35in an unsafe condition on the last lap, I'm just hearing as well now.
25:39Yeah, I mean, I don't know what will be the decision.
25:43I guess we'll have to wait and see.
25:46The thing I can say is that I did my best to try and make the corners, first of all,
25:50and, yeah, it was probably a lot more difficult than what it looked from outside.
25:56But it's like that.
25:58Thank you.
26:00Hi, Lewis.
26:02The team brought a lot of updates here this weekend,
26:04and I know there would have been hope for some progress.
26:07How would you assess this weekend?
26:10Obviously, not a good weekend at all.
26:14Seventh and the seventh.
26:16Just no man's land on both races,
26:19but particularly today with the damage,
26:22there's nothing I could do.
26:23So, yeah, really unfortunate because the team worked so hard,
26:26and so it's come away with a few points.
26:29So, yeah, we have to move on from here.
26:32How do you see that first lap?
26:35Contact.
26:37Just contact.
26:37I was unlucky with Max spinning and I had to go to the right of him.
26:42And I had a good turn one and I was in a good position,
26:46and then the only way I could go was right.
26:49And so then I lost positions from there.
26:51And then, obviously, I think it was Franco that hit me,
26:54and I lost a lot of performance from there.
27:01Well, Lewis unlucky today.
27:03Obviously, got clipped by Colopinto,
27:05who finished behind him in eighth,
27:07but obviously it was first lap,
27:09leniency from the stewards,
27:10but he lost 10 to 15 points of downforce,
27:13and it cost him in the end.
27:14Yeah, well, you could see that he obviously
27:15didn't make any gains after that.
27:17He kind of went backwards,
27:17and I think it's unfortunate for Lewis.
27:19I think they were all very excited and motivated here.
27:22You see the move here.
27:23Yeah, look, it's tough.
27:24So there's obviously not much room there,
27:27and Lewis is obviously, you know,
27:28coming towards the wall by Colopinto.
27:29Could possibly have left him more space,
27:31but as you say, oh, yeah, tricky one there.
27:34It's also a tricky one
27:35because I don't even know if he saw him.
27:37You know, he was still in front
27:38when he entered the corner,
27:39and he's not looking to the right, most likely.
27:41He's looking left to turn into the corner.
27:43So it's a tricky one.
27:43I think it's an unlucky incident.
27:45Overall, though, JB,
27:46just to come back to you on Ferrari's weekend,
27:49you know, they had the most upgrades here.
27:50What was it? 11 in total.
27:52Completely new car.
27:54Looked okay first part of the weekend.
27:56Drifted away from them,
27:57and then, yeah, mistakes in sprint qualifying
28:00and all of that.
28:01It was just a scrappy weekend all around, wasn't it?
28:04Yeah, we definitely expected more from them.
28:06And when Charles was third on the grid,
28:08it was like, oh, he's going to be leading,
28:09and there's a great chance for him.
28:11And he did, and the fight was there.
28:12The fight was there, wasn't it,
28:14with Lando and with Kimi,
28:16but they just fell away,
28:17especially on the harder tyre.
28:19They seemed to struggle,
28:20and it was a massive amount as well
28:21compared to the first two.
28:23And only himself to play.
28:24I mean, he's held his hands up,
28:26but to make a mistake like that
28:27cost him three places.
28:29Yeah, just to add a sort of salt into injury,
28:31not exactly what you want to see.
28:32So there's not much to comment on that.
28:33He's obviously made a mistake.
28:34He's hit the wall,
28:35and then he's paid the repercussions of that.
28:37But more importantly,
28:38I think today's been really a story
28:39of drivers being disciplined a little bit
28:41about how they deploy the battery.
28:43And instead of making moves
28:44when they think, you know,
28:46it naturally comes to them
28:47as a good idea to overtake,
28:49here you need a little bit more restraint
28:50and start to think strategically
28:52where does it make more sense
28:53because the drivers get back to you.
28:54So Charles didn't also have the easiest run
28:56before the incident either.
28:57Okay, we're going to hear from Max
28:58after the break,
28:59but first things first,
29:00let's return to the front of the grid here
29:01from the race winner first,
29:02Kimi Antonelli.
29:03And then the runner-up, Lando Norris.
29:06Kimi, I don't know if you're aware of the stat,
29:08but every time Yannick wins a tournament
29:10on the Sunday, you win the race as well.
29:12So you're matching each other at the moment.
29:14But a fantastic outlap from you today as well
29:17really helped you keep that place ahead of Lando.
29:20Is that ultimately where it came from today?
29:23Or what do you put the win down to?
29:24Yeah, I mean, it was the key.
29:26That undercut, the outlap was very strong.
29:32And also I think the team picked the right moment to do so
29:35because I came out that I had no traffic
29:38and I was able to push cleanly.
29:41So that allowed me to then make the move again.
29:46And so, yeah, I'm very happy with that.
29:49Are you surprising yourself at the moment
29:52with how you're driving,
29:53how you're staying so calm and controlled?
29:56Not off-fitting at all.
29:58Are you staying so calm and controlled
29:59in all these situations?
30:00Because the start today wasn't great again,
30:02but you got over it, you got back through the field
30:03and you controlled the race.
30:05Yeah, it was definitely, you know,
30:07I feel stronger and stronger every time,
30:09more in control of the situation.
30:11I still think that sometime, you know,
30:14I could remain a bit more calm.
30:16I was a bit stressed when I had a couple of downshift issues
30:19and two and a half shifts and I was very stressed
30:21and I should have just stayed a bit more calm.
30:23But overall, you know, it was a strong race
30:28and I'm happy that we brought it home.
30:31Huge congratulations.
30:32Well done.
30:33Lando, you're there listening to those answers.
30:35Are you surprised?
30:36Could you have done that at 18?
30:38Were you the same sort of driver in those circumstances?
30:43That's a long time ago now.
30:44It's not that long ago.
30:46It was like eight years ago.
30:47It's crazy.
30:47I think he's doing a very good job.
30:50Hats off to him.
30:52Matadej, second year in Formula One.
30:54He's doing an incredible job.
30:56It's impressive to perform under pressure,
30:59to be beating his teammate that's been in it for a long time.
31:03He's doing all the right things, you know,
31:05so you can't really fault him.
31:08He got a lot of fit over the last couple of years.
31:10Last year.
31:11But he's proving a lot of people wrong.
31:13So I'm very happy for him.
31:14He's a very nice guy.
31:14And it's also annoying because I want to beat him.
31:18But he's doing a good job.
31:20So I'm going to quit his team.
31:22Could you have beaten him today?
31:24I know that stop, if it had been fractionally quicker,
31:26that stop, you may have come out in front of him.
31:28Do you think that's where it was lost?
31:30Or what are your thoughts on the race?
31:31We should have boxed first.
31:33Simple as that.
31:34I don't know if it might stop being too tense quicker.
31:37It helps.
31:37In some ways, it could have made it worse
31:38because he could have just got a better run
31:40all the way around turn two and three
31:41and easily pass me, you know.
31:43So let's, yeah, I think we just have to be honest
31:46and say we should have boxed before.
31:48We shouldn't have been waiting.
31:50He was quite a bit quicker at that point of the race.
31:52So I told the team that I think quite at the pace
31:54comparing to him at that point.
31:56And we didn't really seem to do a lot about it.
32:02So, yeah, we'll have to go review things.
32:04Honestly, I think the win was, we could have fought for it more.
32:08I don't know if he still would have had better pace.
32:10His pace was better than us today.
32:11So I don't know if he still would have come out behind me
32:14and maybe he still would have overtaken me.
32:16But we could have done more to defend for the win today.
32:19So we need to review some things
32:21and, yeah, see what we could have done better.
32:24Thank you. Thanks.
32:26Well, I think, as I mentioned,
32:28and we're going to discuss this when we come back from the break,
32:29I think it was probably only Max Verstappen
32:32and Lando Norris that could have lived with the pace
32:34of Kimi Antonelli today.
32:36I mean, if you look at the difference
32:37between those two at the front,
32:38you know, it's a matter of a couple of seconds
32:40between Kimi and Lando.
32:41The rest miles behind.
32:42And obviously Max was charging through the field
32:45and a brilliant drive.
32:47His tyres just fell away
32:48because they were so much older
32:49and he pitted after seven laps.
32:50Would that be fair?
32:51Yeah, well, we don't really know his pace
32:52if he was on the same age tyres as them, do we, really?
32:55Because he was always in traffic.
32:56But you've got to say to the first two, yeah,
32:59unbelievable the pace they had
33:00compared to their teammates.
33:01I know that Oscar Piastri fought his way through
33:03and he did a really good job doing that
33:04and getting on the podium.
33:06But still, 27 seconds, it's a lot.
33:08So fair play to those two.
33:09They pushed each other so hard today
33:11and it felt like either of them could have won.
33:14It was the small little mistakes
33:16that made the difference.
33:17Nice to see, though, that the upgrades worked
33:19in that, you know, they can take the fight
33:21and we think we're going to get a lot of that this year.
33:23But now we have to wait and see
33:25what the Mercedes upgrade looks like in Montreal.
33:28And I know they're bringing some parts as well.
33:30And if they're on a par at the end of that,
33:31then potentially even more game on.
33:33Well, Toto seems to be a little bit conservative about it.
33:36I mean, I would have read these results as to say
33:38they haven't really bought much at all this weekend.
33:40The others have, and they're still ahead.
33:41So I would have said good news.
33:43Toto seems to believe that, you know,
33:45correlation is important
33:45and he doesn't know for a fact
33:47that those parts that he's bringing in Montreal will deliver.
33:49But let's see.
33:49I mean, Max, obviously, as well, the Red Bull,
33:52lighter this weekend, more upgrades
33:53and was also in the mix.
33:55We always, we stopped talking about the rain, though,
33:57because there was always that threat of rain.
33:58I know, I know.
33:59You really wanted the rain, didn't you, Simon?
34:01Yeah, well, there was a lot of threat of it.
34:03And then it felt like the pit bull was always hesitant.
34:05You know, do we pit now?
34:06Do we wait?
34:07And they opted to pit earlier,
34:09which at some point looked like
34:10it would have been the best strategy,
34:11but it just didn't end up playing out that way.
34:13Yeah, well, they moved it forward.
34:14They got the window, the weather window that they wanted
34:16because when we arrived, as we said,
34:17it was hosing it down this morning
34:18and there's a few dark clouds around now,
34:21but still no spots of rain.
34:23As promised, when we come back,
34:24we'll discuss that drive by Max Verstappen.
34:27It started with a spin.
34:28He then went through the field
34:30and another great drive
34:32from the four-time world champion.
34:42Congratulations to the race winner
34:44from the driver of the day, Max Verstappen.
34:47You could argue two generational talents
34:50having a quiet world with each other.
34:52Let's hear from Max Verstappen.
34:54He's in the pen with Rachel.
34:56Hi, Max.
34:58That was eventful.
35:00Let's talk about the first lap
35:01and whether you think actually
35:03the wind might have been there for you today
35:05had things gone your way a bit more.
35:07Yeah, I lost the rear into turn two
35:09and then tried to minimise the time loss
35:11with the 360.
35:13and then we opted to go early
35:15onto the hard tyre
35:16but that hard tyre didn't work for us
35:18so I had no real pace
35:20and grip on that compound
35:21for whatever reason.
35:22So, yeah, it was tough.
35:24I don't think we would have fought
35:25for the win at all.
35:26I mean, we dropped quite heavily.
35:30Maybe I could have been in that place
35:32where I think Oscar was maybe
35:34if we would have done a bit more
35:35of a normal race
35:36but it's always easy to say that afterwards.
35:39I think we have improved a lot this weekend.
35:42Unfortunately, in the race
35:42we are still lacking a bit.
35:45Laurent McKees said earlier today
35:46that he thinks three of the five areas
35:49that they want to correct on this car
35:50have been achieved over the break
35:52with the other two to go.
35:53So, how good could this car be
35:54if you can get all five areas done?
35:56Is this a race-winning car
35:57and a championship-contending car?
35:59It will be better.
36:00I don't know how much it will be better
36:01but for sure there is more pace than luck
36:04but I guess if you ask that to any team
36:06they will all say the same.
36:07And just finally, can I get a word on you
36:08that you've been called since stewards
36:10for the exit on the pit lane.
36:11What's your view on that?
36:12Yeah, no idea.
36:12Okay.
36:13We'll see.
36:13All right, thanks a lot.
36:17It was a bit of a rollercoaster
36:18for Max Verstappen on that opening lap.
36:20Let's take a look at it.
36:21He started, of course, on the front row
36:23alongside Kimi Antonelli.
36:24Got a much better start than Antonelli
36:27but it was Leclerc
36:28who got the best start of them all
36:29from the outside of that run to Turn 1.
36:33He then switches to the inside.
36:34Verstappen, I'll just go on board with him here.
36:36He then has this moment of wheelspin,
36:40makes it somehow around
36:42without contact with anyone else.
36:44Leclerc's up and running.
36:46Verstappen is being passed.
36:47He's got all these cars flying past him.
36:49The Williams have gone past him.
36:50Lindblad's gone past him
36:51and he's dropped down the pack there.
36:54Let's go on board with him
36:56on the run down to Turn 11.
36:58This is alongside Lindblad.
37:00He goes down the inside, just chucks it down the inside
37:02and both drivers run off track.
37:04Lindblad rejoins in front.
37:07Verstappen holds it there, holds it there.
37:10Almost gets into the wall
37:11on the left-hand side of the chicane.
37:14Goes over the curves.
37:15But I think he's used a lot of his battery up
37:17in that battle on the run down to Turn 11
37:20which made him vulnerable to attack
37:22from the Williamses.
37:23Look how much Lindblad's just blown away from him
37:26down the straight.
37:27First, he gets Carlos Sainz flying past him.
37:30Max, in a classic Max Verstappen move,
37:32just throws it back down the inside.
37:34And this is where Max is so good with the rules.
37:37Look, he gets there and does it again.
37:40He just manages to stop before he goes off the track.
37:44And he's just thrown it up the inside.
37:46Sainz has gone off wide.
37:48Alex Albon's taken advantage of this
37:50and comes sneaking up the inside.
37:51Let's go on to Alex's on board
37:54because we've got a great view of this here.
37:56So you can see, this is where Sainz breezes past Verstappen
37:59who's struggling for energy at that point.
38:01Verstappen then goes back down the inside.
38:03Albon's thinking to himself,
38:04you know what, I'm going to set up the move
38:06on the exit here.
38:07And he does.
38:09Goes past his teammate, gets alongside Max,
38:11tries to out-drag him,
38:13but the Red Bull just, just sneaks back in front.
38:16Now, Max walked past me here
38:19just a few minutes ago to the stewards.
38:21We had a look at it a little while earlier,
38:23but let's take another look at it now.
38:25This is where he is under investigation
38:28for crossing the pit exit line.
38:31We'll just go along there.
38:33And you can see, at this point, he's on the line.
38:35There's no doubt about it.
38:36If you look, even from this on-board angle,
38:38you can see he's on the line.
38:40And at this point, if I looked at that,
38:42you can see the line is, you know,
38:44there's more tarmac than line there.
38:46So, it's hard from this angle to see all of it.
38:50You can't see, obviously, the rear left tire,
38:52the rear left side of the car, so I'm not sure.
38:54But we'll see what the stewards say.
38:56As I said, he walked up there a few minutes ago.
38:59Back to you, Sami.
39:01He did.
39:02Well, let's go back to Crofty's point there.
39:05It's a bit annoying, isn't it,
39:06that you don't get a decision on something like that
39:08that is cut and dried in race, when you could do.
39:11It's not wheel-to-wheel.
39:12It's not subjective.
39:13It either happened or it didn't.
39:15Exactly.
39:15We had this issue, obviously, also in qualifying as well.
39:19Was it spring qualifying, wasn't it?
39:21Yes, spring.
39:21Spring qualifying, exactly,
39:22where, you know, drivers get promoted,
39:24even though they seem to have data or information,
39:26even from the team side,
39:28that there has been an issue or an infringement.
39:30And I don't understand why, you know,
39:31in these instances, the FIA hesitates
39:34to just review it and make a decision on time.
39:35I can see the timing gaps there.
39:37If he does get a penalty,
39:38he is going to drop down a little bit,
39:40at least two positions.
39:42So, yeah, unfortunate that they wouldn't have been able
39:44to build that buffer if that was the case.
39:46Agreed.
39:46But maybe they don't have the footage,
39:48off-car footage of him crossing the line completely.
39:51But you'd argue that that's what that base back there is there for.
39:55Yeah, of course.
39:56Maybe they just don't have it.
39:58OK, on the subject of Max himself, though,
40:01regardless of what happens in the stewards,
40:03do you feel that, I mean,
40:05he seemed to be in control of that Red Bull.
40:07I mean, those in the midfield might argue that he wasn't
40:10because he was doing Max S stuff.
40:11And we heard what Carlos Sainz said over the team radio.
40:13Come on.
40:14He feels he could do anything
40:15because he's battling through the midfield.
40:17But, you know, this is a Max that's beginning
40:19to believe in his car more than the first three races.
40:21Yeah, I love the fight.
40:22And he's aggressive.
40:24We all know Max is aggressive.
40:25But it was lovely seeing him in the mix.
40:27For me, it was more impressive catching that slide.
40:30Well, not catching it, doing a donut and carrying on.
40:33I don't know if you noticed,
40:34but he took his hands off the wheel when he started spinning
40:37and he put his hands on the opposite side of the wheel.
40:39So when the car came back round,
40:41he had to let go and find the right place
40:43on the steering wheel again to carry on.
40:45Unbelievable.
40:46Can you guess where that comes from?
40:48Spinning round and round on a simulator, surely?
40:50Yeah, most likely.
40:52But no, really impressive.
40:53So his car control, we all know, is second to none.
40:55His teammate, though, let's face it,
40:58probably the worst weekend of his season so far.
41:01He just hadn't been on the pace.
41:02And this was his crash as he went in,
41:06destroyed the suspension.
41:07That was his day over.
41:09Just clip the wall and again.
41:11And that was your lot.
41:14Look at that reaction.
41:16I hope he'd calm down by the time he reached Rachel.
41:19Mm-hmm.
41:22Hi, Isaac.
41:23Just tell us from your point of view,
41:25what caused him, what happened?
41:29I was too eager and too excited about making those moves.
41:34And I just ruined myself.
41:38It was easy to overtake.
41:40I should have been more cautious.
41:42There was no point trying to flirt with the limit in this corner.
41:45So I'm really, really proud of him.
41:48What are you going to work on between now and Montreal, do you think?
41:51It's been quite a tough weekend for you.
41:52What do you want to work on?
41:56Yeah, I mean, it's the first time I really struggle with my overall pace.
42:03So, yeah, this is new and I really need to dig deep because, yeah, I don't want another weekend like
42:11this.
42:14No, because he'd probably be forgiven for thinking, hey, I'm not like the others.
42:17I can go toe-to-toe with Max because it outqualified him 2-1 coming into this weekend.
42:22And then he has something like this.
42:24And it's got to be like two steps forward.
42:26Well, one step forward, a couple of steps back.
42:29Yeah, I mean, Isaac is obviously a driver who wears his heart on his sleeve.
42:31I think he feels his emotions a lot.
42:35But, yeah, it's frustrating.
42:36I mean, you know, he's come into the season, had three races where actually his pace was very surprising
42:40because we've come very used to seeing Max's teammates being far off the pace.
42:44And that hasn't been the case for him.
42:45So I'm sure that for him, as he says, it's been the first time it's happened to him in a
42:48long time.
42:49I think when you, as a driver, that happens to you that all of a sudden you can't put it
42:52together
42:53and the time's not coming towards you, you start to ask yourself questions.
42:56I mean, they've got to get to the bottom of it.
42:57You don't want to be that far off your teammate.
42:59Don't want the spiral.
42:59Don't want the spiral.
43:00Yeah, he's been there before.
43:02I mean, before the first race of the season last year, he put it in the wall before the start
43:05of the race.
43:06Yeah.
43:06And the way he bounced back, I mean, he absolutely annihilated his teammate much of the season.
43:10So I wouldn't worry too much.
43:12It's one race.
43:13Hopefully he can put this behind him and he'll come out quickly.
43:15When you've got Max Verstappen in the seat next to you, isn't it?
43:18Well, we shall see because he has shown mental strength beforehand.
43:21We're going to take a short break.
43:23When we come back, we'll discuss what happened at Alpine.
43:25And again, talking of inter-team battles, a horrible weekend for Pierre Gasly.
43:30Not so for Franco Colapinto in front of all of the Argentinian fans that had turned up.
43:44Having started the season at around about 7-1, the bookie's favourite is now Kimi Antonelli ahead of George Russell
43:52for the first time.
43:54Three poles in three, three victories in three.
43:58The first man to do that and convert the three poles, first three poles of their career.
44:04So this is a confirmation of the race result.
44:07Kimi Antonelli winning it ahead of Lando Norris.
44:11Mercedes getting the strategy right in the pit stop.
44:14And in the end, that was good enough with a fine out lap from the Italian to secure victory.
44:19Oscar Piastri finishing on the podium as well.
44:21Those upgrades appearing to work more on Lando's car than Oscar's.
44:25George Russell will be happy with the points haul but disappointed with the weekend overall.
44:31Losing out again to his teammate Max Verstappen with a good recovery drive after that spin on the first lap.
44:37Charles Leclerc dropping places because of a spin on the last lap.
44:41Lewis Hamilton finishing behind him.
44:43Then Franco Colapinto again in the points.
44:46And the first points for Alex Albon of the year as both of the Williams inside that top ten.
44:53They'll be happy with that.
44:54There were four retirees.
44:55He's a cad jar who was bitterly disappointed.
44:58Pierre Gasly's car ended upside down.
45:00Liam Lawson with that crash.
45:02And Nico Hülkenberg, Audi, finding something wrong with the car as he came in to change the nose cone.
45:08So, it was seven points after the sprint but Kimi Antonelli's lead is now 20 over his teammate.
45:14George Russell, 17th clear of Charles Leclerc.
45:16Lando Norris splitting the Ferraris now.
45:19Two points between himself and Lewis Hamilton.
45:21Oscar Piastri, six behind him.
45:23Max Verstappen up from ninth to seventh ahead of Oli Behrman.
45:27Pierre Gasly.
45:28Liam Lawson retaining his place inside the top ten.
45:32On the second pace, there are now just five drivers yet to score a point.
45:38In Hülkenberg, Bottas, Perez, Alonso and Stroll.
45:41But Albon picking up his first of the year.
45:44And Alonso and Stroll at least finishing the race.
45:48In the constructors, Mercedes extending their lead over Ferrari to 68 points.
45:5318 to McLaren who had a better day at the office than the Scuderia and Red Bull.
45:58Now, nine clear of Alpine.
46:02Speaking of Alpine, lots of Argentine supporting us, as I mentioned before the break for Franco Colapinto.
46:08And he didn't disappoint.
46:10He's talking to 10.
46:12Ole, ole, ole, ole.
46:14Franco, Franco.
46:16You know that song, right?
46:19You learn it from Argentina.
46:21So this is what you need before every race.
46:23A trip home.
46:24Half a million of your country people.
46:26All of us in a trip home.
46:28Hey, if that's what makes a successful weekend, then I'm on for it.
46:31But, yeah, it set you up.
46:33Do you feel it set you up, Franco, for such a positive mindset and what's turned out to be a
46:38really positive weekend?
46:39Yeah, it's been a really positive weekend.
46:41And I am very happy with the effort that everyone has done, with the effort of the team to bring
46:47the new cars, the new upgrades, the new wings, the new chassis.
46:51Everything has been really helpful and helping me find my feet a bit better and find the performance I was
46:56lacking.
46:57So I'm very proud.
46:58We will definitely need a few more trips to Argentina soon and a few more roadshows, a bit more wine
47:03and asados.
47:05The extra weight was helpful.
47:08I can confirm.
47:09You were parsimonious with the grill, with the meat grill, and I didn't see you drink any wine.
47:15But it's been coming for a while, though, hasn't it?
47:17I mean, you're already in the points so far earlier in the season.
47:20It's been coming.
47:21And this can be the start of something, a points run.
47:24Yeah, definitely, I'm sure.
47:26I'm sure it will be.
47:29Since a long time, we're trying to find this performance and trying to understand why we're lacking that pace.
47:34And this weekend felt very strong, very maximized, very efficient at every point, and that we made the most out
47:40of it in each session.
47:41So I feel very happy and very proud of the team, of myself, because I do feel that it's been
47:46an excellent weekend and very, very happy.
47:50And once you had the early fight with Max, it was just all about sort of calming everything down and
47:56then straightforward from there, keeping the Williams behind you.
47:59Luis probably was out of reach ahead of you.
48:01Yeah, Luis was 98 seconds in front, I think.
48:04But I got that damage on the rear right of the start with Luis.
48:08And probably punished me a little bit.
48:10The balance was not great.
48:11But we're still going to have to be far in front of the midfield cars.
48:15And, yeah, we showed that we had a lot of pace.
48:17Great stuff.
48:18Thank you very much, Franco.
48:19Back in the points, Franco Colapinto.
48:25Yeah, well, I mean, we talked about this at the beginning of the programme, all the way back when, where
48:31you were saying to get a full pre-season in his first with the team, the change of engine, all
48:36of a sudden he looks like a different driver.
48:38It can be such a strange sport like that when someone's struggled so much, Shenson, for, yeah, for an entire
48:44season, didn't get off the mark, and then all of a sudden it's a different story this year.
48:48Yeah, and he was, you know, flawless this weekend.
48:50You know, he wasn't just qualifying.
48:52It was the whole way through the weekend he had the pace.
48:54And he was best of the rest, wasn't he, in the race?
48:57He did a great job.
48:58He was the one that was hanging on to the back of Luis for a while.
49:00Nobody else was.
49:01So, yeah, really, really good job.
49:04We don't know what Pierre could have done because obviously he had the incident very early on.
49:07But, yeah, really good weekend for him.
49:09Trusts his car, doesn't he?
49:11Looks like he does trust his car.
49:12But, look, I think Colopinto, just to add on what you were saying earlier, yes, he had a tough season
49:17last year, but he didn't have the full season.
49:19And I know I mentioned this in the top of the show, but, you know, we've got to give him,
49:22you know, a little bit of credit in the sense that this was the first time he actually went through
49:27a whole winter phase with the team, getting into grips, taking some time to understand the car, maybe getting a
49:32little bit more comfortable instead of just playing the sort of chasing game that he had to play all of
49:35last season.
49:36And maybe adding pressure on his own shoulders.
49:38As I was saying, it looks like he's comparing himself a lot.
49:41You OK there?
49:42Took a detour.
49:43You didn't take the racing line, Simon.
49:44You were going to nudge me into that pot plant, I could tell.
49:45You didn't take the racing line.
49:46Yeah.
49:47I didn't leave you in your room, though, did I?
49:49No.
49:49No, but he's obviously apparently been comparing himself a lot to Pierre, which is normal, but looking too much into
49:54the data and almost in a way that sort of cripples him a little bit and doesn't allow him to
49:58go out there freely and do his thing.
50:00So it looks like he's in a much better place now.
50:02Well, a much better race result for Williams.
50:05Both drivers inside the point.
50:07It's still a very overweight car, but they've maximized their performance this weekend.
50:13Hi, Carlos.
50:15That looked like you actually got to have a bit of a race out there today.
50:18The team's got a double points finish as well.
50:20How would you sum it up?
50:21Yeah.
50:22Had fun.
50:23I think it's the first race that I've had a bit of fun fighting with all the cars before we
50:28were too far away from the midfield to get in the fight.
50:31And today, finally, with a great start again, I managed to get myself into the mix.
50:34And from then, I fought my way through and managed to score another P9 with very solid pace, very, yeah,
50:43very clearly fastest of the midfield cars.
50:47Obviously, Alpine is in that no man's land right now where they are not with the top cars, not in
50:52the midfield.
50:53But from my side, yeah, enjoyed that.
50:55And, yeah, another good Sunday for me.
50:58Can you feel the progression coming now to this car?
51:01I hope not.
51:02I think we need the same pressure because I think it's clear that this is still not where we had
51:09promised that we would be.
51:11I think this is still where definitely a great step forward.
51:16And it needs to be proved to the team and all of us that when we do things right and
51:20when we work hard in the right direction, things come along and we improve.
51:24It's a team that is capable of doing a lot and a lot more than this.
51:28But it just needs to serve as an example.
51:31But we still know we are well behind our expectations and we need to, we need to, yeah, dig deep,
51:38work hard and, yeah, wait maybe until the next few races and last third of the year to show our
51:45true potential.
51:46All right.
51:46Thank you.
51:47Thank you.
51:49Alex, a double points finish for the team.
51:51Yes.
51:52How pleased are you to walk away from him with that this weekend?
51:55Yeah, we didn't pit this week, so it was all good.
51:58We had a smooth race, had a great start and I think we made six or seven positions up on
52:04the first couple laps.
52:05We held on, maybe he wasn't the quickest car out there today, but still were able to salvage some good
52:11points.
52:11So a great result for the team.
52:13Yeah, you've got a great start and you said to us yesterday that when you came in it's basically testing.
52:17What have the team learned from this weekend?
52:19Is it going to help you make a big step or is this just going to be a really gradual
52:22thing this season?
52:25I think that it's gradual.
52:28We have bigger steps coming than the one that came from Japan to here, for example.
52:35Of course, everyone knows by now we are running heavy.
52:39We're still heavy.
52:40There's an aggressive program to get that off the car.
52:43So what I'm hoping is, well, firstly, we need to see if Miami's a one-off.
52:48It's always been a good track for us.
52:50Last year we were fifth here, so.
52:53Each baby steps, let's see if Canada is the same.
52:55And then I think by midpoint, that's when we should come into our stride a bit more.
53:00All right, great. Thank you.
53:01Thank you.
53:04Yeah, because Nico Rosberg.
53:08I'll get you. I'll get you, Nico.
53:11Yeah, Williams weekend.
53:13Some way up for me.
53:14I mean, God, they needed this.
53:15Both cars and the points.
53:16Yeah, really big weekend for them.
53:17It's been a tricky start to the season, as you said.
53:20A little bit overweight.
53:22But no, both drivers did a great job.
53:24It's as good as they could have hoped for, I guess.
53:25It looks like the boot camp that Alex Albin suggested it was called.
53:29The boot camp that they put the car on to lose all that weight.
53:31Not all of it, some of it.
53:33But you can hear that Carlos is sort of really still pushing a little bit, you know, putting pressure.
53:39This is not enough, even though they're happy with the progress.
53:42They expect more and they want more and this is not where they want to be.
53:44So let's see what's to come.
53:45Maybe there's more that we don't know about.
53:47But if their ambitions are that high, then maybe there's something exciting coming from them in the future.
53:51Well, Montreal is to come and for that, let's just start to finish where we started with regards to Mercedes
53:58and for the rest.
53:59We'll take it under advisement at the moment.
54:01We know it's going to be one of those seasons, a little bit like the yo-yo racing,
54:04where maybe at the top we get teams yo-yoing because of the developments and some being in sync and
54:10some not.
54:10Some bringing the updates to other places.
54:12Yeah, well, and sometimes the updates don't work as well.
54:15So I think having them on the car now and proving them out has been a really important thing for
54:19Ferrari and McLaren.
54:20Obviously, a very different circuit in Canada.
54:22So, yeah, I look forward to the fight.
54:24But this weekend was a really good one.
54:26It felt like any of the top six could have won.
54:29But it feels, doesn't it, that Kimi Ancinelli could be a threat here.
54:33And as I was saying, favorite now.
54:35That's quite interesting with the bookies.
54:36They don't usually make mistakes.
54:37Well, a lot of excitement around him.
54:40Three wins on the spin.
54:43Ted's Notebook is next.
54:45Thank you to Jenson.
54:46Thank you to Naomi.
54:47Thank you for watching at home.
54:50We've had another fine weekend as Formula One has returned here in Miami.
54:55Kimi Ancinelli, the star of the show again.
