00:04you know he was here with us from the start but I think we need a bit more help we're
00:12gonna take away that bar and add a door which will go straight through into the gym okay my
00:17own gym this is that much concrete we're essentially breaking into a bank right do
00:29you think I look protected enough I think you look protected enough those will always be there as part
00:38of my house because it's x demo it's 50% off it's one of the biggest decisions that we need
00:48to make
00:49about the house having an interior designer to help with not only the design but also the sourcing of
00:56the products is invaluable or what about that matter that would look fantastic there have been a few
01:10delays with tiling this floor I feel like a house renovation requires a lot of wine I tell you
01:19there is never a dull moment here as we head into the last few months of the project Jasmine and
01:36John
01:36have their new builder Dominic on site who with his team of tradesmen is working through phase two of
01:42the build focusing on the pool area driveway and basement but they need the space to do it like a
01:50lot of people we basically amassed lots of boxes and stuff that has just rolled on year after year I've
02:00often felt that the state of your home reflects the state of your mind and I mean look at the
02:08state of my
02:09mind right now everything is absolute chaos in there there's so much going on today at the house and
02:31Rocio is here I met Rocio at my Zumba class and she's actually a professional organizer and because
02:38all of this stuff in the basement well actually all around the whole house is in such chaos I just
02:45need
02:45a bit of help to tackle it and to figure out where to store things while while they're working here
02:51in
02:54the basement a lot of people will probably say that it's not a priority to have a personal organizer but
03:01I think given Jaz's history with her mum and the hoarding I think for her it's important to try and
03:07not let things go on top of her another box another one I like everything to be quite neat and
03:14tidy and
03:15ordered it's probably rebelling against my my mum and the the home I grew up in which was full of
03:24stuff
03:24completely chaotic that's our that's a little clay model of our old dog who died little jet I'll keep
03:39that somewhere safe so much stuff oh look do you remember those days face masks from channel 4 look
03:50it says stay safe watch telly the basement level of the house is currently split in two a large main
04:02room with doors out to the garden that will become a game slash entertainment space with a cinema snug at
04:08one end and an unfinished garage the architect Tamsin's plans will transform into a bedroom bathroom and
04:16gym a key first job happening in what will be the bedroom is to attach a frame and then plasterboard
04:23to the bare brick walls something that pre leg break John would have jumped into it's a shame that
04:29I can't get involved in the plasterboarding because it's something I actually quite enjoy doing but once
04:33you've built the wire framework and once you get the plasterboard on the wall which can happen quite
04:37quickly it's amazing how quickly a really shabby unfinished garage starts to look like a totally
04:44usable space maybe John gets more excited about these things than me but plus the board is not that
04:50exciting out in the garden John's initial focus has been getting the pool back up and running without
04:59having to shell out too much cash and while he's been successful in that unfortunately it's had to be
05:05drained again we realized that we needed to relocate the pool pump where it was inside there was not
05:16going to work for the other jobs that we were doing for the renovations going to have to go outside
05:21so
05:22we've gone from like yeah we've got a pool to really deflated now in order to reconnect the pump we
05:29need
05:29to get a digger out to dig a hole where you have a box that sits underground where the pool
05:39pump can go inside
05:40there we should have probably forward planned a bit more but as ever we led with our heart and not
05:47with
05:47our head the pool may be on hold for a while now but Dominic and his team are anything but
05:54as his son Quinn guides in the first of many deliveries while Jasmine turns her attention to
06:01interior design matters we've had to go with a different interior design company mainly because
06:09lovely Marcia is so busy with all her TV work that it's been really really tricky for us to get
06:18a time
06:19for to be able to meet so I've actually gone back to a company that I used when I was
06:25in the UK
06:25who do an amazing service which is bespoke interior design
06:38Laura's actually on holiday here which is just perfect timing because she was able to come over
06:45and visit and see the project in the flesh as well which is I think just lucky
06:52for me that she was here and she was willing to take a day out of her holiday to come
06:55visit
06:56so here we are look at the basement oh wow so we're planning to put a media wall here
07:02great space it's amazing it is amazing what a lot of light coming in from the drawers as well
07:07definitely some nice big rugs to sort of space to zone it yeah that's a good idea I sort of
07:12said to John
07:13you can have a free reign down there do what you want and so he wants to kind of make
07:16it really
07:17modern down here in contrast to the rest of the house yeah yeah having an interior designer to help
07:24with not only the design but also the sourcing of the products is invaluable for me it's a small
07:35price to pay I think totally worth it you can see that this could become a real extension out into
07:41the garden as well with the doors open you know I actually think you'll live in this part of the
07:46house yeah as a family I think you really will I think this will be one of the most used
07:50spaces of
07:51your home we want this room to be you know somewhere where people come around and they go oh wow
07:56yeah we
07:57always see every host needs a wow room and this I think it's going to be because it's just it's
08:02so
08:02unexpected yeah while phase two and the basement is the current priority being lucky enough to have
08:09Laura on site Jasmine is keen to show her the whole house right this is our room wow it's a
08:19good size
08:19isn't it yeah really good size obviously we haven't done anything with it yet at all it's just crying
08:26out for something it is it's crying out for a four poster bed or something um to give it a
08:33little
08:33bit of drama in here doesn't it yeah shall I show you the living room I'd love to see it
08:36let's go lots
08:37of grand plans for in there
08:41so our living room and dining area and kitchen yeah which we've knocked through
08:48you know it's a it's quite a difficult one to to get right but we are taking out this wall
08:53yeah and we are hoping to open up the whole back of the house so that we've got glass all
09:01the way
09:01across coming in yeah and you know what's quite nice and i quite like is being able to have unique
09:07pieces you know something that no one else has got it's not come from like a department store or whatever
09:12but it's something different so i've seen this really cute little shop not far from here and
09:19they have all kinds of quirky unusual things in there and i thought it might be nice if you've got
09:24time for us to go and have a little look around there well it's one of my favorite past times
09:29looking
09:29through shops like that so absolutely let's go and have a look yeah excellent
09:35they have all kinds of lovely quirky unique pieces of furniture and decorative items and so
09:44i want to just go and have a little mooch around and see if we can get a bit more
09:49inspiration
09:54going shopping for inspiration when you actually you're just looking for ideas and you're looking for
10:01beautiful things and how you could put them together is a whole different experience oh what
10:06about that mirror that would look fantastic i think in your living dining room oh it's lovely isn't
10:13it yeah i think if you we mounted it horizontally maybe behind the table would bounce a lot of light
10:20around the room i love the texture of the i love that well this is a nice little table here
10:25oh it's
10:27really nice that's very rustic isn't it i do like that i like the texture it was quite valuable just
10:33in terms of being able to visualize things getting ideas of you know different textures different
10:41colors different materials um so i found it really useful i think what i'm seeing as i'm walking around
10:50is i'm really loving the sort of natural or nature inspired textures and colors
11:02oh i really like that that's lovely oh that's looks so cute it does look lovely at night yeah
11:10outdoors somewhere that you can see my bank balance going down as we speak i know there's so many nice
11:20little things oh that table's lovely that little blue table one look nice in the terrace that's a
11:31very similar color to the glazed tiles on the windowsills yeah on the outside of the house that
11:37would be really nice somewhere it's nice to bring all these little touches through the house and
11:40make it feel cohesive so i think this trip was really useful for both of us because it was great
11:48to see what jasmine was naturally drawn to in terms of the colors and the textures and the materials
11:53and i think it was really useful for her too because she's starting to get a picture in her mind
11:58about
11:59you know what she really loves oh that was really good oh it was great it's nice thank you no
12:05worries
12:14the next day it's back to work in the basement and time to sort out the flooring in the main
12:19room
12:21dominic has brought in some specialist tilers as it's a big job we are re-tiling over the existing tiles
12:28because it's less work and we've gone for a wood effect tile because it looks nice
12:37we wouldn't use actual wood probably tile is much more widely used in spain because of the climate
12:47they said they'd come and do it over the weekend and so they got started this morning and then i
12:55came
12:55down to just check and see if they wanted a cup of tea and i thought hang on a minute
12:59i don't think
13:00they've laid it the way we had wanted because they'd done it kind of in a brick sort of formation
13:09so that each plank you know the next one was halfway down and then the next one was a full
13:16plank next one's halfway down that way it just doesn't look very effective i think i prefer it
13:24to be on a more random pattern as if you were laying a wood floor because it is a wood
13:28effect tile
13:30yeah as awkward as it was i had to stop them and get them to start again
13:39and so it should hopefully all work out fine now
13:53it's another sunny day down on the costa del sol and with the kids busy at sports clubs and the
13:59tilers dominic brought in still working in the basement it's time for a classic weekend job for
14:05jasmine and john the very exciting task of grocery shopping today i mean you say sarcastically i love
14:16going shopping for food it's what i do i stick to the list and i just go around and i
14:21get
14:21the stuff off the list that's it it's always the bare essentials you never look at any prices
14:26i don't look at the prices i'm terrible at looking at prices
14:30let's get a little bunch of tulips 10 euros some tulips that's that is quite expensive isn't it
14:36well but they look so pretty i couldn't resist them how much is like a loaf of bread like the
14:41bowls and a loaf of bread that they cut for you how much you paying for that roughly one year
14:45you are literally guessing am i right you i mean you're roughly right i think like a pan like a
14:55that was an educated guess you just buy the first one you see now you're making me sound like a
14:59real
15:00spoiled brat sorry come on then i'll let you sit in the trolley you should actually buy some new clothes
15:11here me you might look a bit more stylish i genuinely think there is a difference between spanish prices
15:22uk prices i don't know if this is true but this is what i think that some things are a
15:28lot cheaper
15:28here produce like fresh fruit and veg i think is cheaper and things like wine is a lot cheaper and
15:38the stuff that's expensive is imported stuff which we do still buy some imported stuff and also the sort of
15:47speciality vegan products i feel like a house renovation requires a lot of wine
15:54look at that rioja four euros for a bottle that would be more than double the price in the uk
16:00wouldn't it uh using my handy wine app i'll tell you
16:07that's four euros so what's that like three pound 50. normally in the uk roughly ten pounds ten pound
16:15a bottle so it's like a third of the price just over a third of the price that is crazy
16:21isn't it
16:22should we get two bottles
16:31100 washes for seven euros five liters come on let's get that that'll be fine
16:40why are you getting the most expensive peas
16:43i like the little petit pois that what's wrong with these it's 750 grams for one euro fifty
16:51what please come in i don't think they taste the same
16:56uh i know we've been looking for furniture haven't we for well i mean we've been looking at places
17:02that are way more expensive than that it's actually not too bad that's really good value that green
17:07would be really good on joy's roof terrace i mean i'm the one with the dodgy leg i should be
17:12on sat down
17:14it's quite nice i like it i like the color should we get it we're not going to find anything
17:20that's
17:21as nice as this that's better priced than this that's yeah that's classic jazz comes in for a shop
17:32and leaves with garden furniture that's not classic me that's just me being a little bit sensible you
17:39no no noticing that we found garden furniture that we liked that was actually like a sixth of the
17:47price of some of the other furniture that we've been looking at so it makes total sense yeah
17:58it's monday morning and with jasmine and john's new purchase costing just over 500 pounds looking
18:04spectacular on joy's terrace the tilers are still unexpectedly working in the basement
18:11there have been a few delays with tiling this floor one of the tilers got ill
18:17so he sent some other guys to do it and they started doing the rest of the room but they
18:23did
18:23it in the same pattern as the other guys had started with so they had to lift all those tiles
18:30again
18:31to get it right once it's all cleaned i think it's going to look amazing
18:37and a few hours later they're finally done allowing dominic and his team to get back
18:43to work down in the basement while upstairs jasmine has an appointment
18:49karen from the solar panel company is coming back because
18:55while they gave us a quote and they said that it was all possible it would have required us building
19:01a pergola which is not something that we can do right now we we don't want to and also we
19:07haven't
19:08got the budget for it so she's coming back to see if there are any other solutions
19:15with a quote of around 7 000 euros just under 6 000 pounds for the basic system jasmine's trying to
19:21avoid any additional costs if you know i'm not going to have a battery maybe that will make a
19:28difference of how many because it's usually different it varies from different brand also
19:33but i think the battery is without the battery it's not really worth doing is it you i can't
19:39no no it's worth it it would be great if we could get the solar panels done and making a
19:46contribution
19:47to the environment straight away hopefully we'll be able to find another solution because otherwise
19:54it might have to go on the back burner for a little while until we can figure out another way
19:59on another position for them to be installed solar panels may be looking a little more complicated
20:06than jasmine was originally hoping for but downstairs an off-the-shelf flat pack kitchen for the
20:12basement has arrived costing jasmine and john around 1700 pounds kitchens can be super expensive so
20:20the main kitchen upstairs has always in our opinion needed replacing and we're aware that's going to
20:26cost quite a lot of money so we really had to try and pull in on the cost of the
20:32basement and dominic's
20:34son quinn is ready and waiting to decipher the instructions and get it built and installed
20:40as long as john doesn't confuse the situation in theory that should be i thought we've done it
20:48so it's just under that do you know what i mean that'll go against the wall oh that that yeah
20:53that'll
20:53go in yeah let's have a look at the drawing so this will go to here that will go to
20:58there oh so this gap at
20:59the moment is that's just because that pipes pipes in the way at the moment oh yeah oh so it
21:04will fall
21:04under that yeah yeah yeah 172 so it'll be yeah so you've got a short that's a 50 mil gap
21:09that's
21:10a 50 centimeters yeah yeah oh perfect it will fall yeah sorry perfect even if it's slightly that way
21:16by eye i'll be fine yeah whatever we do yeah the benefit of getting this finished to a point in
21:24the
21:25next couple of days so we can get them here to template the worktop because then that's going to
21:28take two weeks after templating while quinn cracks on the garage soon to be a gym is taking shape
21:37with plasterboard in place and since it's no longer needed for cars the oversized opening will be
21:42bricked up leaving room for a single door that's what you're saying that you were going to start
21:48building no yeah that one yeah we'll start that monday fine start getting that we'll have to take
21:54that apartment and rebuild it we'll make it secure every night outside the driveway is going to be
22:00filled up to the level of the front garden with a new wall leaving enough space for a small patio
22:05area
22:06and stairs up to the garden and in terms of that wall for the drive it's not as high as
22:12you think
22:13you know it's only up to my height it's only up to your head height shoulder height
22:17yeah it's not it's not as massive as you first think when you look at it fine there may be
22:23plenty
22:23of work still to do down there but outside chris the welder has finished one of his jobs refurbishing
22:30the front railings i think chris has done a really good job finding all the pieces and yeah you know
22:37i
22:38think my i think my efforts for the welding are not too bad actually the ones that i did are
22:47the two
22:47end pieces they look pretty good i'm quite pleased with that
23:03on another sunny costa del sol morning it's a big day down in the basement as dominic has a team
23:09of
23:09plasterers on site how many are down there eight or nine well i'm gonna take the credit i'll take the
23:19coffees down because john's got a bad leg but he's making them it's a fine craft like plastering
23:26all right thanks for that john
23:29no worries the more caffeine the faster it works
23:35right who ordered coffee
23:38perfect thank you very much no worries let me take that to those guys through there
23:44today i'm going to try my hand at doing a bit of plastering i know it's notoriously
23:50difficult to do but i'm quite a quick learner so i reckon i can give it a go
23:57jasmine's working in what will be a bedroom in what is currently the garage
24:01and plasterer ian has already prepped the walls with a red bonding agent that will help the pink
24:06plaster stick i have never tried plastering before i mean i've filled a hole in a wall you know with
24:16a
24:16bit of filler sanded it down ready to paint but i don't think that's really going to help me much
24:26hiya oh it's looking good isn't it already so is this the one i'm going to be doing absolutely
24:34and uh i'll show you first i'll show you first how to do it easiest way to get it off
24:40the board is like
24:40that okay you always start up in the top left hand corner do you know what it reminds me of
24:46putting
24:47on my makeup in the morning i'm sure you don't put all the little pores i mean it looks easy
24:57i've been doing my famous last words i'm going to put my hair back because i'm getting i'm getting
25:00serious now right let's do this so like so yep how am i making this look that's it and then
25:15we knew that was going to happen first time we knew it was going to happen
25:18first time especially for me it's actually so much harder than it looks right the way they do it
25:25they make it look so easy and i think i hadn't realized that the consistency of the plaster
25:34it's actually very wet it's very loose and it just you know you try and put it onto the wall
25:39and as you
25:39tilt your trowel whatever it's called until you know it just slid off so many times
25:54yeah no it's not easy it's not easy but oh god you've got to be so super quick at getting
26:00it on
26:01right yeah you also you've got to try and tilt your trowel so that when you're going towards the wall
26:06it's not falling off your trowel so yeah so you tilt it like that yeah that's all the ball that's
26:11it like that all the way up and then keep keep the trowel that's it come to the wall and
26:17then tilt
26:18that's it tilt the trowel a bit flatter to the wall oh no then down and then come down that's
26:23it down
26:23i think i'm better at doing makeup than i am at plastering how long have you been doing this 25
26:30years
26:31so i think it'll take me at least 25 years to get the hang of it to be honest and
26:35i'm from six
26:36generations of classes as well so are you serious yeah yeah that's amazing well my son is the sixth
26:42generation so oh look you see i'm getting a bit better that line is i mean i'm not done it
26:46very
26:47that that sort of a couple of square feet looks perfect that bit's perfect we can feel from there
26:53it's not a problem i think i'll let the professionals take over thank you very much because i do want
26:59my
26:59house to be nice at the end i don't want it to be i don't want it to look like
27:03shrek swamp or something
27:06thank you so much thank you you're welcome yes it's best left to the professionals
27:15with so much going on at home jasmine's keen to do a bit of forward planning
27:20while the main kitchen on the first floor will be part of phase three with lead time taken into
27:25consideration something her and john failed to do with the family bathroom they need to get one
27:31ordered i mean what kind of finish do you like do you like that grain that would finish or something
27:37more smooth i don't object to either but i think push onto the shelf may be smooth yeah i think
27:45i like
27:45looking at kitchens more than i like looking at bathrooms really yeah do you not how come i don't know
27:53just because i think i spend more time in the kitchen no you don't you spend ages in the bathroom
27:58looking at my phone i think for us it's one of the biggest decisions that we need to make about
28:05the
28:05house the only concern is will we be able to afford the kitchen that we really want this is not
28:12my
28:12confidence to you to be honest what the finish about it i like the color that one over there is
28:19more
28:19my style i prefer that slightly more traditional yeah exactly i think that would look better in our
28:26house as well i'm not overly concerned about the style jazz can take the lead on that but my main
28:33concern is making sure that it's everything's in the right place and you've got the nice luxury items
28:39to see if we can afford them like filtered water and boiling water would be really great i mean
28:46a filter water isn't it's a no-brainer isn't it the other hand we need to keep the cost to
28:50a minimum
28:50yeah champagne on a lemonade budget exactly we've got loads of lemons so we'll have lemonade we might
28:56just have a we might need a cheaper kitchen we might need a sparkling water kitchen i like the color
29:03actually i mean this is one it's nice one of my favorite colors
29:21it's
29:23fifty percent discount
29:30Because this kitchen is exactly this kitchen, because it's X-Demo. It's 50% off.
29:40If our kitchen is not exactly like that...
29:52Just buy the extra bits you need to make it.
29:55Yeah. If you were to buy this exact kitchen, then you wouldn't have to wait a long time for it,
30:01would you?
30:02It would be much quicker.
30:03The price and the speed is the benefit, right?
30:05Yeah, definitely.
30:10Hi. Hi. How are you? Good, Jasmine.
30:13I'm Rebecca. Hi, Rebecca. Hello, John.
30:16So, Carmen said to you, you're interested in the green kitchen.
30:19Well, that's the one I liked most in the whole showroom.
30:23And then she mentioned it was on sale.
30:26That's right.
30:26So then I was...my ears pricked up. Then you liked it even more.
30:30So, yes, it's on sale.
30:32If you said to me today, yes, I want this kitchen as it is, we could deliver it next week.
30:37Right.
30:38If it's that we're going to add to it, or we're going to change the worktop, etc.,
30:42the lead time from this manufacturer at the moment is four to five weeks.
30:48And I suppose there's no way of sort of getting an idea of price until you know exactly what we
30:54would take from this particular kitchen and what we'd add to it.
30:59What you'd add, exactly.
31:00We can send you all our measurements and everything. And if you're happy to, come up with a design.
31:06Sure. We can put something together. You can come in. Or we'll come and do a planning visit.
31:10Oh, yeah. That's the same idea. Yeah. Good shout.
31:13Thank you so much. Nice to meet you. Thank you.
31:15Lovely to meet you, too. Thank you. Thank you, Rebecca.
31:17Bye.
31:17Bye.
31:18I'm quite excited about the prospect of a half-price kitchen because that would be amazing if we can make
31:27it work.
31:28We just have to wait and see what the design looks like and take it from there.
31:35A few hours later and back at the house, there's a visitor.
31:39John's sister, Kate, who's holidaying nearby with her family, is popping in to say hello.
31:44I'm pretty close to all of my immediate family, you know, namely my mum, my dad, my sister, my nieces
31:50and nephews,
31:51that I do think one of the things that I found toughest since moving to Spain is missing them.
31:56Hello!
31:58But honestly, that said, I do think you value the time you spend with them even more.
32:05I think when you lived in the same country and you saw them every now and again,
32:09it's easy to take family for granted.
32:11So, actually, I think there's two sides to it.
32:13When I see my family now and see my sister, Kate, I think you really take value in it.
32:18Hi!
32:20How are you doing?
32:23How are you doing?
32:25How are you doing?
32:26How are you doing?
32:26How are you doing?
32:27How are you doing?
32:31And with so much happening over the last couple of months, John's keen to get some time away with Kate.
32:38Kate's very level-headed and so I do often take comfort in talking to her.
32:43I know that if I talk to her about any problems or about anything in life,
32:48she'll be the one to come back with the rational, level-headed answer,
32:53which is normally the absolute opposite of the way I'm going.
32:57Oh.
32:59Shame we're not sitting on a beach.
33:00Yeah.
33:01Which was my original plan.
33:02Cheers.
33:03Cheers.
33:04Thanks for coming out.
33:05Nice to see you.
33:06How is the renovation going?
33:07It's all right.
33:08Just the minor thing of breaking a leg.
33:10But the leg break...
33:13Wasn't planned.
33:14...was 100%...
33:17Everything in that split-second, everything...
33:18I said it to Jazz the other night, I was like, it's amazing that in that one split-second, everything
33:23changes.
33:24It became a bit more difficult.
33:25But the builders are doing a great job, aren't they?
33:28So...
33:29Really good job, yeah.
33:30It's moving forward quite quickly, by the look of it, from what I've seen.
33:33Exactly.
33:33It's good.
33:34In a couple of months' time, it'll be amazing, our bank account will be zero, but...
33:40No, it's great.
33:40So, other than missing us and mum and dad, has it been what you thought it would be?
33:46Uh, yes.
33:47I mean, it took quite a while to settle in.
33:50Yeah, I know.
33:52And actually, I mean, it 100% has.
33:55And the kids spend more time outdoors.
33:58And I think, fundamentally, one of the biggest reasons for moving out here was to spend more time as a
34:03family together.
34:04Yeah, and you're doing that, are you?
34:05And we're definitely doing that.
34:06And also, you know, we came out here because, you know, we decided life is too short and, you know...
34:13Yeah, well, with our family experience...
34:16Yeah, exactly.
34:17You've got to take every opportunity you can, haven't you?
34:19Exactly.
34:20Jo is mine and Kate's sister.
34:23Jo passed away at the age of 40 from sudden arithmetic death syndrome.
34:28She was the middle child, very much the sort of connection between me and Kate.
34:34Life's too short and, as we know, you know...
34:36I genuinely think we wouldn't have made such a life-changing decision had Jo not, yeah, had we not lost
34:44Jo in such horrible circumstances.
34:47No.
34:47Made such a life-changing decision.
34:49Jo was, and I'm not sure Kate ever knows that I've described as this, but I think Jo was all
34:56the good bits of Kate and all the good bits of me in one sibling.
35:01And, you know, she was feisty when she needed to be, but she was a good laugh and she was
35:06super caring.
35:07I think until you've gone through the kind of grief of someone close to you like Jo, you never realise
35:13that when you lose someone, that you think about them every day.
35:17I mean, I would happily say that I've thought about her every day since she passed away.
35:26And, and, and I would want it to, for that to always be the case.
35:30Always.
35:32Yeah, I'll go.
35:39I'm already starting to cry about it.
35:43Here's to Jo.
35:44To Jo.
35:53I think Jo would be very pleased that we're here.
35:56Yeah.
35:57I think she would be very proud that she's the reason we live by the coast.
36:03Well, she'd definitely be out here sunbathing in the sun, for sure.
36:06Er, yeah, she would, yeah.
36:09My kids have this phrase that they've said for the last few years, that when they see a rainbow by
36:14the sea, it's Auntie Jo looking at me.
36:17And so, genuinely, we're now by a beach, and sometimes we go down there and there's a rainbow.
36:22And, you know, that's, that's why we're here.
36:26It was nice to talk about Jo, I think.
36:28We always feel like one of the things when you lose someone as close to you as we were to
36:34our sister,
36:36is, is the best thing you can do is talk about them.
36:39And, you know, it takes, it sometimes takes years before you're comfortable talking about that person.
36:44But, er, yeah, it was, it was nice.
36:46I feel like the, yeah, the three of us were there for a bit, having a chat.
37:04I tell you, there is never a dull moment here.
37:07So we're at the hospital now.
37:09John just had a funny turn at home, and I had to call an ambulance.
37:14But he's sleeping now, having a little rest.
37:19And hopefully it's nothing serious, but we're just waiting for some test results.
37:25I thought it could be a heart attack.
37:28Erm, and obviously what happened with John's sister Jo ran through my head.
37:36I could see that John was thinking about that as well.
37:40Which was what made me just want to get the ambulance there as quickly as possible.
37:50Just when we thought we were getting back to normal life,
37:53or as normal as life can be, mid renovation.
37:58And I was getting back on my feet.
38:00Erm, this afternoon, when we were with one of the builders,
38:04I got sort of pains in my chest and tight-chested, aching arms.
38:09We called an ambulance, and now I'm in hospital.
38:13And the blood test results suggest that I've had a mild heart attack.
38:20I think sometimes it's called an angina, which sounds way less scary than a heart attack.
38:26But anyway, they're doing tests.
38:30With John in hospital for three days recovering,
38:33unlike when he broke his leg, this time the build continues.
38:37As Dominic and his team are able to crack on with a number of jobs,
38:41including building the new wall and doorway out of the garage.
38:46And once again, Jasmine's guardian angel slash childcare support is back on the scene.
38:55Last time mum was here was about three months ago,
38:58and she came out because John broke his leg and I needed help,
39:02and she was just our saviour, our guardian angel.
39:06And this trip, she's had booked since before she was here last.
39:12So it's just a coincidence that, yet again, my mum's coming out
39:16and John had to be rushed to hospital.
39:18Hi, Mama. Hello.
39:20Come in.
39:22Welcome back.
39:24Do you want me to grab your bag? Yes, please.
39:30Travelling light, actually.
39:32That looks a small one.
39:33How are you doing?
39:35Good. Nice to see you.
39:39A few days later, and feeling much better.
39:44He's been discharged.
39:46Again.
39:47Again.
39:51So we're heading back home now.
39:53We've got lots to catch up on with the renovation, John.
39:56Another three or four days of me sitting in a hospital ward,
40:00not doing anything.
40:01And wait till you see what's happening at home.
40:05There's lots of changes.
40:08I mean, it's actually slightly blowing my mind.
40:12Literally twenty, forty-five years without any health issues.
40:14And this year has not started terribly well.
40:21I think after they found out our family history and the fact we lost my sister to an unexplained heart
40:27issue,
40:28that they sort of took it a bit more seriously, maybe than they would have done normally.
40:33And the procedures were carried out quite quickly.
40:36I've now got a box of medication that's sort of four or five tablets strong a day.
40:42It almost feels a bit like overnight, someone's knocked on the door and reminded me that I'm getting older.
40:47I don't think anyone would love a moment where you genuinely, for a moment, think about whether you're hugging your
40:53kids for the last time or not.
40:56You know, I guess, yeah, you know, I guess my family's history has made it difficult to, or made it
41:05harder to deal with that sort of reality or to think about it.
41:09But that's what we always said when we moved out here, is make the most of every day, because no
41:15one knows.
41:22Life carries on.
41:24But it's not long before John's back at the hospital for an MRI scan that will hopefully help explain exactly
41:31what happened.
41:34Now when I tell people I'm going to the hospital, they have to ask, is it for your leg or
41:37your heart?
41:37And someone asked me this morning, is today leg or heart?
41:41I'm not overly worried. I've done a couple of MRI scans in the past.
41:44The main concern is always it's super tight and claustrophobic.
41:48But I'll try not to fall asleep this time.
41:56I just hope that they can solve the mystery of why he had a heart attack.
42:02So that we can take care of him and try to make sure it doesn't happen again.
42:17I try my best not to be a worrier because it's very easy to fall into a mindset where you
42:25just worry about everything.
42:27And I can't live my life like that. So I think he's going to be fine. That's what I'm manifesting.
42:33Are you actually taking a photo of me and my dodgy garment?
42:41Is it that bad?
42:43Listen, this is a lovely dress. This is your colour. It goes with your eyes.
42:48I sneezed, didn't I?
42:49Oh!
42:51It really hurt my back. Because you can't. Well, because you're there. It's like there.
42:55Well, I was like, if I sneeze now, I'm going to end up staring at my snot for the next,
42:59like, 20 minutes.
43:01He did look very sexy.
43:05Quite funny. I mean, I think I'd wear that dress. It was quite trendy, actually.
43:10He looked great.
43:13Okay, John.
43:15Gracias.
43:17Then I'll take a seat, please.
43:19Muchas gracias.
43:21Okay, I have good news and bad news.
43:23Okay.
43:23The bad news are there is a mild damage of a heart attack.
43:28Okay.
43:29That is detected by the cardiac MRI scan.
43:31And the good news is that it is mild. It is not a severe heart attack that can condition your
43:40life.
43:42So, with medication, it will be easy to control.
43:45Okay. Great.
43:47Gracias.
43:48Thank you so much.
43:50Thank you so much.
43:53I think we're very lucky.
43:55Like, imagine saying, how lucky are we?
44:00John's broken his leg.
44:01He's got thrombosis.
44:03And then he's had a heart attack.
44:04But I still feel lucky that it could always be worse, couldn't it?
44:10So, just have to be grateful for every day.
44:15And, you know, he's going to be absolutely fine.
44:22Oh!
44:25Basically, I'm a professional now.
44:27I've got the hang of it.
44:28I've just made a big hole.
44:30I'm all packed.
44:31Ah, you're done.
44:32I'm going.
44:33Bye then.
44:34See you.
44:35Good luck.
44:37Financially, I think I have to go back to work.
44:39And my work involves me being away a lot.
44:43My brother Andrew, my baby brother, is coming over.
44:47I've got one, one, zero, zeros.
44:50It's one, zero, one, zero.
44:52None of the measurements seem to be right.
44:55I've just got myself in a bit of a tizz with it.
44:57Whaaaaa!
44:59Whaaaaa!
44:59Git.
45:14It's called Happy boy.
45:16Technical Special, know the transaction.
45:16And we have to close it.
45:23Truly, talent here, never!
45:24You're welcome.
45:24Je Graham.
45:24You,ray.
45:27I've got a little and half done.
45:27I've got a little barrio on my chest.
