00:00Antigua and Barbuda enters a new political chapter as Gaston Brown was soren in for a fourth consecutive term
00:06following a landslide victory for the ABLP.
00:10Our Special Envoy Belén de los Santos was there and has the story.
00:16Gaston A. Brown was soren in for a fourth consecutive mandate in Antigua and Barbuda,
00:21opening a new chapter for the island nation after a landslide victory
00:25that gave the ruling Labour Party 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats.
00:30I, Gaston A. Brown, do swear that I will honor, uphold and preserve the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda and
00:40the law,
00:41that I will conscientiously, impartially and to the best of my ability discharge my duties as Prime Minister
00:49and to do right to all manner of people without fear or favor, affection or ill will.
00:56In his inaugural address, P.M. Brown stressed the importance of Antiguan's coming together
01:00to focus on the development of the nation while calling for a strong opposition that works constructively alongside the government.
01:08As a Caribbean leader who has been a key actor in regional cooperation,
01:12he also stressed the potential impact this new moment could have on the region.
01:17So as I'm concerned, Antigua and Barbuda will become the epicenter of a Caribbean medicine.
01:23Let us lead by example.
01:26Let us ensure that Antigua and Barbuda becomes a beacon of growth and development of its people
01:31to be replicated throughout the Caribbean.
01:33With increased support and a strong parliamentary majority,
01:37the ABLP now looks ahead to fulfill the people's mandate,
01:41continuing the path of economic recovery, driving investment
01:44and creating more opportunities for workers and families across the islands.
01:48I think over the next five years we are going to continue to see more economic activity in Antigua and
01:55Barbuda
01:56that will lead to a greater spread of wealth.
01:58That is the object.
02:00And like this, with the message of national and international unity,
02:05Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party begins the next five years of a new mandate.
