00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:23What's the location of your emergency?
00:40Are there people leaving the scene?
00:48All right, we have people on the way, okay?
01:02Hey, you all right?
01:04Boss man, you all right?
01:06Oh, man. Boss man, you okay?
01:08Hey, stay with me.
01:10We got to move. We got to move.
01:13We got to move.
01:15EMTs rushed the victim to the hospital, barely alive.
01:19This way the guy go.
01:21That's looking right over here.
01:22What do you look like?
01:24All black? What do you look like?
01:28I can cast the dog over there.
01:31Wait, Josh.
01:35Let's track it.
01:38Let's go.
01:39The canine unit follows ascent to a group of apartment complexes across the street.
01:45He tracked down to here.
01:47Now it's kind of stopped.
01:48Where it went from here is a great question.
01:52The guy is coming down here.
01:55I lost him.
02:00The guy is coming down here.
02:04For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead within
02:11the first 48 hours.
02:32We had a shooting here at the gas station at North Cross. The victim eventually did pass.
02:39Corporal Rodrigo Araya has been with Gwinnett County PD for nine years and joined the homicide unit two years ago.
02:46He will lead the investigation.
02:49Looks like we have identified him.
02:51The victim's name is Anthony Miles.
02:5441-year-old Anthony Miles was born in Savannah, Georgia and studied computer science at Savannah State University.
03:02He was an avid fan of Atlanta United, known within the footy mob supporters club as their capo, or chant
03:08leader, Macaroni Tony.
03:11He leaves behind his parents and four siblings.
03:17The victim was standing there where his phone's plugged in at.
03:22The dude just walked up on him.
03:23Then he just started shooting.
03:26He fell right there.
03:28Tony was shot eight times.
03:31We got multiple cell cases up here.
03:34The casings are all nine millimeter.
03:38They look like they have one camera right here.
03:40They have that camera right here in the back.
03:42This lady, she said she saw the guy.
03:45This lady stand right here.
03:47Then go back.
03:48She heard a bunch of shots.
03:50Ran away the middle there.
03:51Okay.
03:55Are you the one that called 911?
03:58Okay.
03:59Araya speaks to the 911 caller, who works at the car wash next door.
04:04So you saw him when he was walking back?
04:06When I seen him, he was standing over there.
04:08And we were walking this way.
04:10Like, people fell in and come back.
04:13She says minutes before the shooting, she saw the suspect pacing back and forth between the gas station and the
04:19car wash.
04:20And as we came back, we were walking between the children and the children and the children.
04:26Any words exchanged at all? Did you hear like a conversation?
04:30Have you ever seen him before?
04:37Okay, he was just wearing a mask.
04:39Okay, what kind of mask was it?
04:45Just the eyes.
04:49Anything else you remember?
04:52Okay.
04:56The witnesses saw the man wearing the mask.
04:59He had arrived behind the car wash.
05:02And he had paced back and forth, so at least twice, before finally walking over to the market where the
05:09incident happened.
05:10And so it looks like he was trying to gain the confidence to do what he was about to do.
05:24One hour in.
05:26Remember the time that it happened?
05:27Um, 42 something.
05:30The team watches the gas station's surveillance video from around the time of the shooting.
05:36Is that your question?
05:36Yeah.
05:37That's the victim.
05:38Do you know of the guy that got shot?
05:40Yeah.
05:41He's a daily customer.
05:42He's a homeless type.
05:44Every time inside.
05:45Nighttime sleeping in the game machine inside, outside.
05:50But he's a nice guy.
05:52No criminal.
05:58He just hangs out out front.
06:00He's holding his phone in.
06:01Then he goes in and out of the shop multiple times.
06:14So let's try to walk his name.
06:18All right, so he's in at 733.
06:21He's masked and gloved up.
06:24We got our victim over there in the corner.
06:36So there he goes to the bathroom.
06:41So he came out of the bathroom at 734?
06:44More like 735.
06:46Goes to walk out.
06:49Suspect never purchased anything in the store, just the bathroom.
06:53Didn't look like it.
06:54Didn't look like it.
06:54Just came in and then we walked out.
06:56This is weird.
06:58I wonder if he came in to see if the guy was in the store.
07:02No.
07:03Know what I mean?
07:03Yeah.
07:08It happens out here.
07:10All right, so he walks out of the store.
07:13Mm-hmm.
07:15Right before 745.
07:17So it's messed up, huh?
07:21That's what the car wash said, that he goes back and forth behind the car wash twice.
07:25Oh, yeah.
07:38Yeah.
07:39I was at 750.
07:39He's walking directly towards him.
07:41I was at 750.
07:49I was at 750.
07:53He was walking directly towards him.
08:07He just shoots a victim.
08:09I didn't give him anything.
08:15I think he was target of people.
08:17Yeah.
08:18For him just to walk up to him as he's standing outside, you know what I mean?
08:22But I don't know what he was coming over and wanting to help him think.
08:29What time is he running away?
08:30Like, 7.53?
08:31He's running that way.
08:34He goes around the car wash and gets running.
08:51Three hours in.
08:52Just going to walk the same path that he ran off after the shooting.
09:03From right here, he's starting across the street.
09:05That's the entrance to the KRC Reserve.
09:08Across the street from the crime scene are several apartment complexes, including the
09:12KRC Reserve and the Carter.
09:19Hey, what's up, man?
09:20Araya reaches out to canine officer Anthony Otillo.
09:24Question.
09:25When you guys tracked, were you tracking him running back towards the Carter?
09:30Yes.
09:31I ended up going across the street, and then the dog hits the sidewalk, goes right towards
09:38Carter, and then I walk between KRC and Carter.
09:43So either he lives in one of those apartments, or he staged his car there and he took off.
09:47I think there's a couple tasks back there as well.
09:49Yeah.
09:50All right.
09:51Thank you, buddy.
09:57See if there's any video.
09:58The team will split up to canvas for more surveillance video.
10:02Still trying to locate what apartment he possibly went into.
10:05So we're just still trying to locate as much video as we can right now.
10:15Can you download this right now?
10:17Hello.
10:17While Corporal Randy Blackburn reviews video at the Carter apartment complex.
10:22Hello.
10:23We'll look and see if we can review some video footage.
10:25Araya and Detective David Early check a business located between the crime scene and the Carter.
10:31I'm still trying to figure out the path that the suspect took when he ran away.
10:36So if he ran down this hill, theoretically we'll be able to catch him on camera.
10:47There he is.
10:51758.
10:53All right.
10:54So it keeps going down.
10:56Is the Carter down there too?
10:57Yep.
10:58Is there anything else down there?
10:59Just the Carter.
11:05Do they have cameras down there?
11:07We're about to find out.
11:08Blackburn sends an update.
11:10Blackburn caught him leaving the Carter.
11:13Headed towards the gas station.
11:17There's a good chance that he does live at the Carter apartment complex.
11:35This is him at the Carter.
11:3920 minutes before the shooting, the suspect was captured on camera leaving the Carter apartment complex.
11:46But we don't have video of him returning after the shooting.
11:50Say maybe there's a trailer or something.
11:52We're going to have to go down to the apartment complex.
11:55Check out one of the cut-throughs, see if he went that way.
12:07He could have gone down that way.
12:09The team drives through the Carter apartments.
12:11We're driving down the path that we saw him running.
12:15There's a good chance that one of these cut-throughs was used by the PERP to enter this apartment complex.
12:23I got you on speaker. Go ahead.
12:25Sergeant Dallas York checks in.
12:28There's cuts to this apartment behind it.
12:30There's a trail.
12:31It comes off the backside and goes into the Carter.
12:34Looks like somebody fresh walking the ramp to leave.
12:37Yeah.
12:41The cut I'm talking about is right before you get to those bushes, but it's real steep going down.
12:45It looks like somebody's gone down through here.
12:48It's not well-trodden. You have to know it's here.
12:50Detectives believe the suspect may have used the trail to return to the Carter undetected after the shooting.
12:58What do you think about putting the Volo out?
13:00At least Uniform would know to be able to look out for that jacket.
13:03Yeah.
13:03I don't know that I would do a meteor police on it just yet.
13:06No, no, no. Just for Westside?
13:07I mean, that's what I would do because I think unless we get something else on video, that's the only
13:11thing we got right now.
13:12With the exception of maybe the victim's phone has some in it about somebody he's beefing with or something.
13:17It's possible.
13:18The team collected Tony's cell phone and will review it for a lead on a potential suspect.
13:23I'll do the Volo and send it out.
13:26At this point, we're just going to go back to the office and reassess and see what else we can
13:30do.
13:36Back at headquarters.
13:38This is Detective Araya, Cuenacani police.
13:41Yes.
13:42Araya reaches out to Tony's mother.
13:44I'm sorry to tell you, this morning there was a shooting in front of a gas station.
13:49Anthony was just minding his own business when another male came up to him and opened fire and shot him
13:54multiple times.
13:55He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
14:01What time did this happen?
14:03It happened this morning between 7 and 8 o'clock in the morning.
14:07It's okay.
14:11And has the person been caught or do you have any suspects?
14:16That's still an active investigation at this time.
14:18Was Anthony living with you?
14:20No, he was actually homeless.
14:22He was staying here and then he left a couple of weeks ago.
14:25She says Tony had been living on the streets and was searching for a new job.
14:30Normally, he would hang out right there at that gas station.
14:33Do you know if he's had any issues with anyone?
14:37He told me a few days ago that someone stole his suitcase.
14:41And he didn't have anything except his backpack.
14:45Okay.
14:46Do you know if the police were called?
14:49No, he didn't say that he called the police.
14:52Okay.
14:52All right.
14:53We have his cell phone.
14:54We'll look into it.
14:55See if there's anything in the phone.
14:57I'll make sure to keep you guys updated as the investigation progresses.
15:02All right.
15:03All right. Thank you so much.
15:04You're welcome.
15:05Okay. Bye-bye.
15:06Bye-bye.
15:10We had word that he was possibly homeless as the clerks on the gas station saying that he would sleep
15:16inside the store.
15:17So that was confirmed now with mom.
15:19He felt safe there.
15:21Never posed a threat.
15:22It's very unfortunate that someone just lost their life for minding their own business.
15:32Anthony was just a great person, so genuine, so loving. I never told him, but I always looked up to
15:45him.
15:45One of the laughs and the confidence they gave me to always just be a better me.
15:52All right.
15:53It's just talking about it.
15:56I know it's tough.
15:58I love you, and I'll talk to you later.
16:02Okay.
16:03All right.
16:03Bye-bye.
16:06Tony was kind.
16:08He was fun.
16:10He was sincere.
16:12He was empathetic.
16:13But it was tough for him because his lease had run out, and they would not renew it because he
16:18didn't have the income.
16:20He had lost his job at the time, and he was actively looking for work.
16:25I said, listen, you can come stay with me.
16:29He was like, yeah, but I want to find my way.
16:32You know, he refused help.
16:34He just wanted to do it on his own.
16:37When I got that call that he was killed, it was like part of my soul just left my body.
16:47I just try to process why.
16:50Why does that have to happen to him?
16:52What was my son thinking at that moment when those bullets were going into his body?
16:59You know, did he cry out for me?
17:02That's the thing that haunts me the most.
17:07He was so friendly and so kind.
17:10I just cannot fathom what the reason would be to take his life.
17:20Ten hours after Tony was shot and killed.
17:23As of right now, we really don't have anything to work with.
17:26We just have a guy in a mask running into an apartment complex.
17:29So we're just going to have to rely on old school police work.
17:32Do some stakeouts.
17:33Kind of just focus on the apartment complex.
17:36So with the implant, I was thinking we can do a stakeout in the morning around the time that this
17:40happened.
17:41Between like 7 and 9.
17:42See if we find someone who fits the general description around that apartment complex.
17:47Yeah, that's good.
17:48Got a real whodunit.
17:50Yeah.
17:57Early the next morning.
17:59UC is like the only thing I can think of like we can do right now.
18:01Aria and Corporal Tyler Daniel head back to the crime scene in an undercover car, hoping to spot Tony's killer.
18:08We're going to concentrate in the area where the suspect was seen running into.
18:14The identifying clothing is going to be that jacket.
18:17Once we spot that jacket, we'll have the uniform try to come out and make contact with him, try to
18:22identify him, and then we'll take it from there.
18:27What's that saying? No face, no case?
18:30Yeah.
18:30So unless he's wearing that jacket.
18:33That's right.
18:37So this is what you see him running.
18:40Turned it into here?
18:41Mm-hmm.
18:43He's running on this side.
18:44You see him run down and he's out of the lens here.
18:48He's like he knows where the cameras are, so he's just trying to avoid them.
18:52Suspect walks inside the store and then comes out and shoots him?
18:55Yeah.
18:56Seems a little more personal to the eight shots.
18:58Oh yeah, I think it's personal.
19:11Two hours later.
19:13No foot traffic.
19:15We don't able to locate him, anyone matching his description.
19:21I hope he didn't get out of dodge. I don't know how else I'm going to track him.
19:30Later that day.
19:31I went back out to the gas station where the homicide happened to get all of the video from the
19:35Spranglers cameras there.
19:37So this is the day of the homicide.
19:39While I was looking at this, I noticed that these pants actually have pockets on both sides, like cargo pockets.
19:45Almost like a tactical style pant.
19:47Going back and found this dude walking up two days before the homicide actually happened.
19:53Early scoured footage from the days leading up to the killing and found a man who resembles the suspect.
20:00This guy here.
20:04He's got like a COVID mask on.
20:06Obviously the shirt doesn't match.
20:07Shoes don't match.
20:08But this is the same pants.
20:10They do look very similar.
20:11Like he's got the zipper on the side, the little flap.
20:14Same name pants.
20:16This is a warning?
20:18Yeah.
20:18This is like right around seven.
20:19Same time as when the homicide happened.
20:25This is the victim.
20:26He's out front like where he was when he was shot.
20:30I assume charging his phone.
20:32This guy leaves the story, goes over there and just sits there.
20:42Looks like he's looking over towards him kind of.
20:45He's just staring at him.
21:00Does the victim ever look at him for acknowledging him at all?
21:04This is what, two days before?
21:06Yeah.
21:12And he does it the day before too.
21:14The same man was also at the gas station the day before Tony was killed.
21:20Thursday before the homicide, he comes back.
21:22This is the guy here.
21:23You can see his face mask.
21:24And you can see him come from all the way down the street.
21:26So he's coming from the direction of Carter.
21:28Same pants.
21:29Got the zipper on the side.
21:31Does he ever buy anything while he's in the store?
21:33He buys chips in this one.
21:35With what?
21:36Cash.
21:36Hey, let's go.
21:39So 7.15, he comes out.
21:53And then it's like, I think 15 minutes later, he comes from this corner with different clothing on.
22:01He does this in the same sort.
22:05And now it looks like he's wearing the same thing as the suspect was the day of the actual murder.
22:09And this is the day before.
22:11That's him, dude.
22:12Yeah.
22:13That's him.
22:14100%.
22:15Maybe he puts on the jacket and a hoodie, kind of covers himself up and he was contemplating doing it.
22:19For some reason he got spooked, comes back and does the same thing the next day, but actually follows through
22:25and then ends up killing him.
22:28But what did you think if they knew each other, if we're thinking it's personal, that they would talk at
22:32some point?
22:33You would think.
22:34Or they would at least acknowledge each other.
22:36I went through like, minute by minute, for like three days, and I never see him talk to him.
22:50A few hours later, there's like not much in his phone.
22:54Detective Eddie Ariaza finishes the search of Tony's phone.
22:59Everything.
22:59On the 10th?
23:00At this point.
23:01Was he talking to anybody that morning?
23:04Mm-hmm.
23:04Do you think this is just some random killing?
23:07I don't know, man.
23:08I can't.
23:09I think it is, man.
23:10Because dude, the victim paid no attention to this guy.
23:12What, the four times that he's in that gas station?
23:14Well, that's what I said.
23:15You think it's possible the victim didn't recognize him because he was covered up every time?
23:19This guy is just fucking crazy, man.
23:22So you think this guy is just like a serial killer in his starting phase?
23:26Possibly, man.
23:27Mm-hmm.
23:28I don't know, man.
23:29I don't know.
23:30As the first 48 winds down, the team is no closer to identifying Tony's killer.
23:37This guy is a threat to the community in Quanat, so we need to get this guy as soon as
23:40possible,
23:41because he's going to victimize somebody else.
23:57Six days after Tony was killed.
24:00We're headed back to the area where the homicide occurred.
24:03Just trying to see it.
24:05We see the suspect on foot.
24:06Desperate for a lead, Araya and Ariaza return to the crime scene undercover.
24:12We're reviewing some video footage.
24:14He has returned to that area prior to the homicide multiple times.
24:18It's all around the same time, always in the morning, always hanging out around the car wash,
24:22hanging out at that gas station.
24:24He's always wearing a mask.
24:25Does he always have the book bag with him, from what you saw?
24:29Yeah.
24:30Only on the day of the homicide he didn't have it with him.
24:32The only time he has that shysty mask is on the day of the homicide.
24:36All the other days he's got that white COVID mask.
24:39And he sits down in the same spot.
24:41And he's staring at the victim for over 30 minutes.
24:46Not moving and nothing else.
24:48Makes me wonder if he was stalking this guy.
24:50Yeah.
24:52He's so careful.
24:53He never moves his mask.
24:56Never touches anything with his hands.
24:57Never touches anything.
24:59He had gloves on the day of the homicide.
25:02Is that a white face mask, dude?
25:05Bro, that's a white COVID mask in a book bag.
25:08Ariaza spots a man with a mask and a backpack,
25:11walking towards the apartments across from the crime scene.
25:15Did he turn into KRC?
25:17Or Carter?
25:19Gotta get in that middle lane.
25:24There he is, there he is.
25:26Just passing.
25:28Look at the shoes.
25:29That's the shoes.
25:30Same shoes.
25:34I'm gonna just stop right here.
25:36We can see him go all the way up the bend.
25:39Once he's out of sight, we can move up again.
25:42That's him.
26:04He's looking back.
26:05He's looking back.
26:06They might have noticed us.
26:09Drive past him like normal.
26:16Yeah, he just looked back again.
26:20Yeah, you see he's getting a little nervous.
26:22You see how he keeps looking?
26:32No.
26:33He looked like he was more towards the left to go behind the stairs.
26:38So he's got an apartment in the bottom.
26:40So getting information on who lives in that building is the main thing.
26:44Doing a workup on that.
26:45Yup.
26:46I was thinking someone else can work on like the leasing office once they open.
26:55As dawn breaks.
26:56Caruso getting ready.
26:58Corporal Angela Carter will visit the leasing office to get a tenant list.
27:02We're not going to be able to get a search warrant because we can't pinpoint which apartment.
27:06We can't just...
27:07I don't think we'd have enough either way.
27:09Even if we knew which one he's in.
27:11We need something else.
27:12Another piece.
27:16An hour later.
27:17We just got the rent roster which shows us all the listed renters.
27:21I can walk it.
27:23Just see what number is on what doors.
27:26I'm going to go in there and walk the building and just kind of get an idea for which apartment
27:31number is where.
27:35Ariaza scouts the breezeway the suspect walked into.
27:44So, both of those bottom apartments have ring doorbell cameras on them.
27:48And they're active.
27:51So that'll show exactly where you were.
27:53Yeah.
27:54But one of those might be his.
27:57If he went into one of those apartments on that level, it's 01 or 02.
28:01According to the tenant list, only one of the two apartments is rented by a male.
28:06Dante Newcomb Donnelly.
28:08Ariaza runs the name in the police database.
28:13Bro, that's him, dude.
28:15That looks like him.
28:18Could be. It's not like far off or anything.
28:2231-year-old Dante Newcomb Donnelly was born in Illinois and worked in a warehouse in California before moving to
28:29Georgia.
28:30He's not going to have a criminal history.
28:32He has no prior convictions.
28:35Doors are facing each other.
28:36They both have cameras.
28:37We should probably go to the one across from him ASAP, dude.
28:41And we see him go in there.
28:43I mean, we're getting close to potential search warrant level, maybe?
28:46Yeah, we've seen with that jacket.
28:48Oh, it's over with. It's on.
28:50If we do that now, we can confirm or deny whether at least white mask guy goes in there or
28:55goes up the stairs or turns doubles back around.
28:58What's Carter doing now?
29:00I don't know. I think she's... Yeah.
29:02Hey, what are you doing?
29:04Ariaza calls Carter.
29:06We need you to do some sneaky stuff real quick for us.
29:09Okay.
29:10If you're down.
29:12That bottom floor where he went into, they have cameras.
29:15If you want to try to make contact at his neighbor across and see if we can confirm whether the
29:20guy we were following went in there.
29:21Okay. Sounds good.
29:23All right, cool.
29:25Ten minutes later...
29:27Hey.
29:32Hi, how are you? I'm Detective Carter.
29:35Carter makes contact with Dante's neighbor.
29:39Can I talk to you?
29:40Hey, Ariaza.
29:42Can you translate?
29:43Yeah, I got you.
29:43Just let her know we're coming to get camera footage.
29:46The woman agrees to let Carter review her ring camera video.
29:51Let me check.
29:54Did you see him go in there today?
29:57Yes.
29:58Oh, he did go in there?
29:59With the mask.
30:02So we know at least the mask guy lives there.
30:05We just got to confirm Friday, see if we can catch the guy coming in and out of that apartment,
30:10hopefully wearing the jacket.
30:12Carter locates the video from the day of the shooting.
30:16Okay, so he leaves 719.
30:20Comes back 759.
30:23But not with the jacket.
30:30I'll send it to you.
30:31Oh, yeah.
30:32Carter sends the video to the team via text message.
30:36He's wearing like a red jacket.
30:38Yeah.
30:41He leaves at 719 and he comes back at 759.
30:45And the 911 call comes out at 755.
30:47Yeah.
30:47That makes sense.
30:49I think that adds up.
30:50The timing adds up.
30:51He's not wearing the clothing.
30:52We're looking for it.
31:07It looks like he's got the hood off the face mask everything.
31:11Yeah, it does look like that.
31:17It looks like he has literally everything besides the jacket.
31:20And he's even walking with his hands in his pockets.
31:24So maybe he just swaps the jacket.
31:27Maybe he leaves with that on knowing there's cameras.
31:30Swaps his jacket and comes back with the same, you know what I mean?
31:34You think that jacket is reversible?
31:38Dude, let me look up this jacket, bro.
31:40Ariaza runs an image search for the suspect's jacket.
31:45There it is.
31:46That's the exact same jacket.
31:48And it has that orange inside.
31:51Look.
31:52Airborne.
31:53Six point star.
31:54Name tagged under.
31:56Red.
31:57Navy.
31:58That's the jacket.
32:00He flipped it inside out.
32:04That's big, dude.
32:07It's the same jacket.
32:10I think we're there.
32:11I think we're there.
32:12We got enough probable cause to go into that apartment and search for additional evidence in this murder.
32:17Hegwin wants to have a meeting so we can kind of see where we're at.
32:21We need to hit this house.
32:24One hour later.
32:25So what's the plan?
32:27Based on what we have, we've got PC to search the apartment, but not the arrest warrant yet.
32:32Because his space has been covered at all times.
32:34And hopefully if we search the apartment, we can prove it's just him staying there and then that'll be the
32:39arrest warrant.
32:39So we're banking on doing the search warrant and recovering the jacket or the shoes.
32:50Right now we have SIS watching it and they are going to stop somebody if they come out and mention
32:56his description and detainer may contact us.
32:59And if that doesn't work, we'll just surround and try to call him out.
33:03We have to assume he's armed in there and if he's not coming out and we know he's in there,
33:07I have to assume he's planning on putting up a fight.
33:13Two hours later.
33:16Hey, boss.
33:17The team follows a man leaving Dante's apartment and stops him a few blocks away.
33:23You got an ID on you or anything? Mind if we pat you down real quick?
33:29What's your name?
33:30Dante.
33:31Where are you coming from, boss?
33:35You got any, like, weapons on you or anything?
33:38What do you got in there?
33:40A handgun.
33:41A handgun?
33:41Yeah.
33:43Is it loaded?
33:43Yeah.
33:48Is it a 9?
33:50Yeah, it's a 9.
33:51The Taurus 9mm will be compared to the 9mm casings recovered from the crime scene.
33:56They're gonna explain everything to you in a minute, okay?
33:58And Dante will be taken to headquarters for questioning.
34:01We appreciate you being cooperative and everything like that, all right?
34:09Hey, Sarge.
34:10Yeah.
34:10We've got him, 1095.
34:12Aria's in early and gangs went up to Jimmy Carter, got him up there, and it is Dante.
34:18Awesome.
34:18If you just wanna drop the search warrant off, come and turn around and go back to 35 to interview.
34:22Yeah, that works.
34:25Alrighty, I'll see you when you get here.
34:26Okay, thank you.
34:28Man, that was a great phone call.
34:30That was good to hear.
34:32I just got the search warrant signed.
34:34Hopefully, we locate any evidence inside the apartment that's gonna give us probable cause for arrest warrants.
34:4320 minutes later.
34:45Ready?
34:45Yup.
34:50I got police.
34:51Anybody inside?
34:52Make yourself down.
34:53The team searches Dante's apartment.
34:59Here's the jacket.
35:02Jacket's in the corner of his room.
35:03They recover clothing worn by the suspect in the surveillance video.
35:12As well as live ammunition.
35:15Two shotguns.
35:17And three handguns.
35:21All the handguns are 9 mil, right?
35:24All the handguns are 9 mil.
35:26And then, obviously, the shotguns are both 12-gauge.
35:28Yup.
35:30So, while they're still searching, we're gonna go ahead and head up to headquarters and start the interview.
35:35Head to 35.
35:36Okay.
35:42So, right now, we're about to interview Dante.
35:46See if he's gonna speak to us about what happened.
36:05Dante.
36:06How you doing, sir?
36:07I'm Detective Araya with Gwinnick County Police.
36:09This is my partner, Detective Araya.
36:14Did I say your name right?
36:16Is that Dante?
36:17How old are you?
36:19I'm 31.
36:20And, uh, where were you born?
36:22Illinois.
36:25Illinois?
36:27What?
36:27You know what city?
36:28I'm 31.
36:28I'm 31.
36:30Mm-hmm.
36:30You don't remember the city you were born in?
36:32Okay.
36:34How long have you been out here in Georgia?
36:37I don't know.
36:37A few years.
36:38A few years?
36:39Okay.
36:40Have you been living out here in Gwinnick County your entire time?
36:44I don't know.
36:47Hey, Dante, can you do me a favor?
36:48Can you just sit up and just, you know, just make eye contact when we wanna talk to you?
36:52Loving the rest of the board.
36:54We're gonna get into that.
36:55You know, I just wanna get to know you for a little bit, okay?
36:57And then I'll let you know, okay?
36:59All right?
37:00So...
37:01You wanna speak to attorney?
37:02You don't wanna speak to me anymore?
37:04Okay.
37:06Okay.
37:07I gotcha.
37:09Dante.
37:10Right here.
37:12All right, you're being charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault.
37:17Okay?
37:28He knows.
37:28Whatever, dude.
37:29He knows.
37:30They don't wanna make eye contact.
37:32They don't wanna man up and talk to us.
37:33He knows we got him.
37:35He knows that we went inside that apartment.
37:36He knows what we found.
37:39Yeah.
37:39He knew as soon as we got him.
37:40Game over.
37:41Once we saw him and we said Dante, he knew the gig was up.
37:46Six days after Anthony Miles was shot and killed, Dante Newcomb Donnelly is charged with his murder.
38:02Hello?
38:03Hi, this is Detective Araya. Is this Ms. Hosley?
38:05Yes, it is.
38:06Uh-huh.
38:07Araya calls Tony's mother.
38:09Hey, I just wanna give you an update on the case.
38:12Okay.
38:13We located the suspect, the person responsible, and he's in jail.
38:17Oh, thank God.
38:19Oh, thank you.
38:20You're welcome.
38:21I'm with my family right now.
38:23All right.
38:25Dante Newcomb Donnelly?
38:27Does that name sound familiar?
38:29No.
38:30Okay.
38:31Not at all.
38:32Did he say why this happened?
38:34Unfortunately, we never were able to find out exactly why this happened.
38:38Okay.
38:38Wow.
38:40Well, I thank you for that information.
38:42I'm glad that he was apprehended.
38:44Yes, ma'am.
38:45I know you've got some working overtime on the case, and I appreciate it.
38:50You're very welcome.
38:51I'm glad it will give your family some closure.
38:54Yeah.
38:55Absolutely.
38:56You're very welcome.
38:56Have a good night.
38:57You too.
38:58Good night.
39:01The family had the same questions I had as to why.
39:04Why did such a senseless act happen to their loved one, and I wish I could give them that
39:08answer, but I know that they're still happy that we were able to find the person responsible,
39:13and he's now in jail.
39:23Three weeks later.
39:25This is text messages from Dante's cell phone, and there was one particular text that was interesting, kind of stood
39:32out.
39:32Aria makes a discovery in Dante's phone.
39:36His vehicle had been broken into, and he had to take his vehicle to the shop to get his door
39:41handle replaced.
39:43He's talking to the guy who's going to fix his car.
39:45Nine days before Tony was killed, Dante sent a text to the mechanic who was repairing his car.
39:51He says that he's noticed somebody walking around with a backpack hanging out by the gas station.
39:57And he believed that that was the person responsible for doing all the entering autos in the apartment complex that
40:02he lived in.
40:03So I thought that was interesting, because our victim was hanging out by the gas station, and he has a
40:07backpack.
40:08So it could be a potential motive as to why he shot our victim.
40:14I don't believe our victim was a suspect of entering autos.
40:17I think he just misidentified him and just loved him.
40:21Just wanted to believe that this was the person responsible.
40:23He wanted to point a finger at somebody.
40:25And our victim died from nothing just because someone believed that he did something he didn't do.
40:30Unfortunately, Tony was just a complete innocent victim, and this was just unexplained act of violence towards him.
41:06I think we all were beating the sun that hurt the life.
41:09of Anthony Bernard Monson II, otherwise known as Macaroni Tone.
41:16He was a son, a brother, a uncle, a friend, the best person.
41:23We all knew him. We all loved him.
41:27But no one knew him and no one loved him like the woman that gave birth to him.
41:36We wanted to present you with a token of our appreciation.
41:40And love your memory of Macaroni Tone.
41:44Oh, yeah.
41:52This is awesome.
41:54This is what he can call it so hard.
41:58The person who took his life has no idea the person they've taken from this world.
42:05He was a kind, sweet person.
42:07And it warms my heart to see so many people showing so much love, keeping in your memory, keeping in
42:15your prayers.
42:16He's with us.
42:18And he will be with us.
42:28All my time, come back to what he's up.
42:30Let's go!
