00:18Hundreds of miles from Gaza, in open international waters near the Greek island of Crete, Israeli
00:25naval forces just boarded over 20 boats and detained 175 activists from across the world.
00:32Video is out.
00:33The activists are now on Israeli Navy ships.
00:36And both sides are telling very different stories about what just happened.
00:40This was the Global Sumud Flotilla, one of the largest civilian flotilla attempts in
00:45years.
00:46Dozens of vessels, hundreds of participants from multiple countries, describing their
00:52mission as carrying humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Gaza's civilian population through
00:57Israel's naval blockade.
01:00Israeli forces issued warnings for the boats to change course.
01:03When they didn't, the Navy boarded them, hundreds of miles out, well before reaching Israeli or
01:09Palestinian waters.
01:11Israel's foreign ministry released footage showing the detained activists on deck, describing
01:16the scene as calm and peaceful.
01:18No injuries have been reported.
01:19Israel's position, this is a security operation, not a humanitarian crisis.
01:26The naval blockade has been in place since Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.
01:31And its purpose is to stop weapons smuggling, not aid.
01:36Israeli officials pointed out that inspected humanitarian supplies continue to flow through
01:41land crossings.
01:43They also alleged that at least one vessel was found carrying drugs and other items inconsistent
01:49with a humanitarian mission.
01:51Claims the activists' dispute.
01:53The activists' position?
01:54This was piracy.
01:56A military boarding of civilian vessels in international waters carrying aid to a civilian population.
02:03Organizers say communications on several boats were jammed during the operation and that distress
02:08calls were made.
02:09They are calling the interception illegal under international maritime law.
02:14Who is right?
02:15That is, predictably, a question with no clean answer.
02:19And it's one international courts have wrestled with since the first flotilla in 2010.
02:24This is not the first time.
02:26In 2010, the Mavi Marmara incident ended with nine activists killed when Israeli commandos boarded
02:34a similar flotilla.
02:36That moment triggered an international crisis and strained ties between Israel and Turkey
02:41for years.
02:42Late 2025 saw another flotilla intercepted.
02:46That one included Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.
02:50The pattern is consistent.
02:51Flotilla attempts, Israeli interception, international condemnation, deportations, repeat.
02:59The 175 activists are expected to be brought to Israel, questioned and deported.
03:05Consistent with every previous flotilla incident.
03:08The blockade holds, the debate over its legality and morality does not go away.
03:14What this story really shows is that Gaza remains a flashpoint capable of pulling in activists,
03:20navies and international law all at once, even while the world's attention is fixed elsewhere.
