00:01President William Ruto held a formal welcoming ceremony Thursday where he described Sawe's
00:07win as a defining moment in the history of human endurance. At a ceremony at the Statehouse on
00:16Thursday, Ruto announced a $61,000 cash prize and a car for Sawe. What I achieved in London was on
00:28behalf of all of us to uplift our country's name, keep it shining, and it is a happy moment for
00:35all
00:36of us. Sawe made history on Sunday when he won in a time of one hour, 59 minutes, 30 seconds.
00:52He
00:53bettered the previous men's world record by 65 seconds.
00:57To understand the magnitude of the moment and this achievement, we must place it alongside
01:04the great milestones of human history. When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon on 20th, July 1969,
01:14and when Roger Bannister shattered the four-minute mile on 6th May, 1954, an accomplishment once believed
01:26to be beyond human limits. These moments did more than set records. They redefined possibility itself.
01:40Sebastian Sawe was introduced to professional running by his uncle, Abraham Chepi Croke, who
01:47ran the 800 meters for Uganda at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
