00:05The new rules under the Online Gaming Act are here and they decide what you can play,
00:11how you play and how safe you are while doing it. Here's the headline.
00:15All real money or wagering games are banned.
00:21So if a game involves betting or winning money, it's out.
00:25What is allowed is online social games, e-sports which are truly skill-based.
00:31The law now clearly defines e-sports.
00:34An e-sport must be organized, multiplayer competition, follow fixed rules and be officially recognized and registered.
00:42And depend only on skill, like strategy, reflexes, etc.
00:46Players can pay entry fee and win prizes, but no betting or wagering is allowed at all.
00:52Authorities classify games based on how money flows.
00:56Do you pay to play? Can you win money? Can rewards be used outside the game?
01:00If yes, the game could be under scrutiny and even payment access can be cut off.
01:07Not all games need approval, but registration is mandatory for e-sports and for games that are flagged under the
01:14high-risk criteria.
01:15No registration or approval will be given without user safety features being checked.
01:20Safety is not optional anymore. It's a legal requirement.
01:24There is also a 90-day approval timeline for fastest decisions.
01:28So what does user safety actually mean for the players?
01:31It now covers multiple layers of protection.
01:34First, access control.
01:35Games must verify age and offer parental controls, especially to protect minors.
01:40Usage safeguards.
01:42Time limits and gameplay restrictions help prevent excessive or addictive use.
01:46In-game protections, fair play systems and anti-cheat tools to ensure a level playing field.
01:53And user support systems.
01:54Easy reporting tools, grievance mechanisms and even counselling support must be built in.
02:00Transparency requires that the games must clearly disclose how they work, how payments function, what risk exists and how user
02:09data is handled.
02:10Overall, these safeguards are designed to protect players from financial risks, psychological harm, social and behavioural impacts and to promote
02:19responsible gaming and informed choices.
02:21But some concerns still remain.
02:23E-sports span many game types, making regulation complex.
02:27There is no clear structure in e-sports like in traditional sports.
02:31There is still confusion around the earning and banking mechanisms and a risk of inconsistent decisions and delays by the
02:40online gaming authority.
02:42So what does it all mean?
02:44The rules are aimed at creating a safer gaming ecosystem with mandatory protections.
02:49Clear recognition for skill-based e-sports.
02:52But still, the rules are evolving with open questions.
