00:00As far as the rules are concerned for the NFL, any updates here as far as gambling is

00:08concerned?

00:09Craig, I was dumbfounded yesterday when I saw some of the some of the paperwork that

00:17was handed out.

00:18Basically, the NFL held a conference and they updated a bunch of the rules, including surrounding

00:24gambling and education.

00:25Craig, did you know that in-person gambling education was not mandatory in the NFL before

00:32this 2024 season?

00:34That's shocking, right?

00:35Considering the issues that we've had, everyone has to have butts in seats for gambling training

00:43this year.

00:44And it wasn't required beforehand.

00:45The first six seasons of legal betting in the US, the first six seasons of NFL football,

00:51they didn't make people sit in person to hear about this.

00:54So maybe that will help the rules sink in a little bit.

00:58It seems like they are really dumbing it down and really simplifying it this year, Craig.

01:05Six main rules for NFL players.

01:07That's how it starts.

01:08Never bet on the NFL.

01:10Never have someone bet for you.

01:13Don't gamble at your team facility or while traveling.

01:17And remember, that can include the hotel as well, the team hotel that you're staying at,

01:23which if you're not in person, think about how many Zoom meetings we've had over the

01:28past couple of years, Craig.

01:30I tune out.

01:31It's hard to keep paying attention to Zoom meeting after Zoom meeting.

01:34And you hear, don't gamble.

01:36You think, all right, cool.

01:37I'm not going to gamble.

01:38We're at the team facility, obviously.

01:40But maybe you just didn't hear that team hotel part.

01:44And that's where some of the issues have been coming in.

01:47So now they're definitely laying that out front for everyone as well.

01:52Don't share team information.

01:53That should be obvious enough.

01:55If you know quarterback A is hurt and hasn't been out there yet, don't tell anybody.

02:01Don't even walk inside a sportsbook during the NFL season.

02:05You're not allowed to do that.

02:08Don't approach the window.

02:09Don't have your money out.

02:10Don't walk into a sportsbook.

02:13And finally, don't play daily fantasy football.

02:15And that's interesting to me, Craig, because in the past couple of years, these players

02:20have gotten more comfortable about talking about fantasy football and playing against

02:24themselves in fantasy football or having themselves in fantasy football.

02:28And I don't think anybody has ever taken those comments to have integrity issues behind them.

02:34But yeah, now don't play daily fantasy football on there as well.

02:38And then very clearly it says, coaches, staff, and personnel, don't bet on any sports at

02:45all.

02:46Yeah.

02:47Look, we have to hope that this sinks in this time, right?

02:53Maybe the NFL is just really shook by the John Tay Porter stuff and actually seeing

02:59someone and their play on the court come into the conversation.

03:05Maybe that really made them nervous and they knew that they really just had to dig in and

03:09drill in these rules to people.

03:12But all of this sounds like things that should have been said in 2018.

03:18And I don't know why they weren't said in 2018.

03:21Glad they're being said in 2024.

03:23But man, that's a lot of time to have a substandard gambling policy as it seemed.
