00:00Here was Nick Casario the other day after I believe after Friday's draft night where he was
00:06asked about the report from Jordan Schultz that teams had been reaching out to the Texans to ask
00:13about Nico Collins the feeling around the league being that Nico is due for an adjustment to his
00:18contract which has become very team favorable since he signed it a couple years ago that there's
00:25people around the league that that may think that Nico Collins the Texans might be of mind to trade
00:30Nico Collins before giving him a pay increase Nick Casario poured a whole big vat of cold water
00:38on any Nico Collins Nico Collins trade conjecture yeah I mean look teams call teams all the time
00:44and ask about players I mean when I trade Nico Collins so I mean like whoever reported it or
00:49whatever information that they had I mean I mean they could take it and shove it like when I trade
00:55Nico okay and the only information that was out there was teams are calling the Texans not
00:58the initial report was the initial report was that teams were calling the Texans and I don't think
01:06Nick shot that down that's not a surprise like teams call teams all the time just to see if there's
01:11yeah let's call 10 different teams to see if they're interested in trading these various guys
01:16because we've got an idea yeah so um yeah I think that the all the speculation that that fuels by
01:22that
01:22report is the stuff that where you know when people people put headlines report Texans might
01:30possibly consider a request to trade Nico Collins but whatever I'll flip it on its head and say if
01:36you're a team that has a serious need at wide receiver and you've got the assets to go get a
01:41good wide receiver you would not be doing your job as a GM if you didn't pick up the phone
01:45and call
01:45Nick Casario just to see if Nico Collins you know because he well it's I mean because the problem is
01:50I
01:50mean as bad and horrendous as that offensive performance was the Texans you might say wow
01:54look the Texans have these young receivers and Nico Collins is going to get a new contract etc etc
01:59um the Texans are thinking yeah you know when you know when we could tell that we shouldn't trade
02:05away Nico Collins was the Patriots game right you know uh yeah it would have been really nice to have
02:10Nico Collins in that game that's oh god I forgot he didn't play in that game that's right because he
02:13got
02:14he got concussed in that first game super concussed yep I know we're not supposed to talk about
02:19degrees of concussion but that dude got concussed yeah he did yeah he did he landed on his dome man
02:25um okay so so Nick is saying we're not trading Nico Collins I 1000 believe him uh what kind of
02:33offer
02:34would it take if you were Nick Casario Seth to at least listen to an offer to the late me
02:40yeah to
02:40titillate you yeah yeah yeah for Nico Collins what would make me feel like I was Adam Gase allegedly
02:45right snorting up a hefty line right before a practice um as small as some strippers back yeah
02:54yeah yeah uh boy for Nico it's a first rounder at least at least and yeah so I would say
03:01um
03:03that what's the Dexter Lawrence went for what uh Dexter Lawrence went for the 10th overall pick 10th
03:08overall and something else or was it just the 10th overall just the 10th overall pick that's it
03:12that's it I would need uh I would and I don't want to do it but if I did want
03:16to do it I would
03:17have to take a something that's equivalent to that yeah I if I would think it at least um I'm
03:23just
03:23looking at I'm looking at the trade for um Tyreek Hill and I'm not saying Nico Collins is 2022 Tyreek
03:31Hill 2022 Tyreek Hill might have been the most valuable non-quarterback in this sport Nico's really
03:36good I don't think he's that can't you know what Kansas City for Tyreek Hill God a first a second
03:44a fourth and then a fourth and a sixth the next year they got five picks for Tyreek Hill yeah
03:51give
03:51me that give me the Tyreek Hill deal if they offered you the Tyreek Hill deal for Nico Collins would
03:55you
03:55take it right now here's the here's the issue with right now yeah not right now yeah it would have
04:01to
04:01be before the draft before the draft right you can't you cannot do it now because you're not
04:06getting anything that helps you in 2026 that was the big issue with the clowny trade because a lot
04:12of people tried to have a revisionist history after the clowny trade and say well look at what he did
04:17in
04:17his career afterwards the problem with the way they handled it was that they they dragged it out they
04:22went Jerry Jones style and when they could have traded him before the draft they waited until
04:28September to trade him yeah and so you weakened the team well not with by getting picks that you're
04:34not going to be able to do anything with and it turned out later you know all the reports came
04:38out
04:38later that you know teams didn't even realize that Jevion Clowney was available and uh Kansas City
04:45had traded for uh Frank Frank Clark Frank Clark a real healthy trade for Frank Clark before the draft
04:52so that was how they mishandled all of that and yeah so if you're gonna if you're gonna trade
04:56somebody like Nico Collins I they would have done it already well and the mishandling part of it was
05:02when Brian Gain was still in the building you know Brian Gain didn't get fired till June of 2019
05:06that period of time where the team sat on their hands with Clowney was when Brian Gain was still
05:13the general manager of the football team and that was kind of that was also kind of symbolic of
05:19Brian Gain as a GM he just didn't do a lot of stuff he was the exact opposite of Nick
05:25exact opposite of
05:26Nick he didn't do it was one of the uh the hungriest traders out there yes um and uh yeah
05:32Brian Gain just did not do much maneuvering at all never made a trade on draft day never did
05:37two drafts he didn't make a trade either time uh I don't think you'd get an offer like the Tyreek
05:42Hill trade I you're it would absolutely need to be something that would have been done three weeks ago
05:48you know before the draft and if someone came in with a first and then something else depending on who
05:54the team is and you know where the first like if it's the 20 like when the Chiefs were when
05:58the
05:59Chiefs were getting picks for Tyreek Hill you know they were they were getting picks that were late
06:04in the in the first round the Dolphins the Dolphins weren't a great team but the pick they got was
06:08a
06:0929th overall pick you got to remember too the situation and why they were doing it the Chiefs
06:13had entered that phase where they had to pay their quarterback they they did not they had they had a
06:19lot
06:19of cap considerations that the Texans don't have right this moment and that's what so the environment
06:25where the Texans would it's and remember too they know where the issue is they have a Super Bowl winning
06:33defense yeah they need all the help they can get offensively to match or even get close to the level
06:40of the defense so it just it doesn't make any sense right now it would make I would be if
06:45the Texans
06:45were to make some jaw-dropping move or right this moment um or before the draft this year it would
06:52have to be a defensive player because you'd have to be looking at it as like man we need all
06:56the help
06:57we can get on offense we can we can suffer a little bit on defense to help the offense yeah
07:01and there
07:02may be people listening going god boy why are you guys doing this why are you being so alarmist about
07:05this because the Texans are approaching an area here where the the Seth was just describing the
07:10Chiefs being in now the Chiefs are doing it while winning Super Bowls that would be really nice it's a
07:14much
07:14easier pill to swallow if you're trading away some of the most valuable players in the league for
07:20draft picks when you've got three Super Bowl rings under your belt already or two or whatever they
07:24had at the time they traded away Tyreek Hill so it's an easier pill to swallow then but the math
07:29is the
07:29math the salary cap doesn't care how deep you've made it into the postseason it only cares about the
07:34numbers and the Texans are going to be facing if if CJ Stroud gets back on track to being what
07:41Texan fans
07:42hope he can be and then gets a contract now you are into that territory where the Texans you're
07:47going to have to be making similar decisions you can't pay everybody 25 30 40 60 million dollars you
07:53just can't you know you can manage it and you can pay more people than you think like the Eagles
07:57for
07:57example Seth like I couldn't like the Eagles it feels like there's this never-ending this never-ending
08:03uh like just bottomless pit of salary cap available but it's because they credit card to the nth degree with
08:11voidable years and things like that they made that trade for Jonathan Grenard last week
08:15for two third round picks and I'm like that's a good trade for two third round picks you get the
08:19last two years of Grenard's contract with the Vikings which is probably pretty reasonable now
08:24since the Vikings picked up a lot of the signing bonus freight and things like that and then it's
08:28like no no they traded two third rounders and gave him a new deal right he had four years 100
08:32million to Jonathan Grenard yeah that's what I expected wherever Jonathan Grenard was going to go he's
08:37going to get a new deal because somebody people had even brought it up with the Texans yeah um which
08:42yeah it'd be cool to have Grenard back but it wasn't Grenard also which you know he doesn't have a
08:47no
08:47trade clause but like teams don't want to give up capital for a guy that doesn't want to be there
08:52I don't think Grenard would have been super enthusiastic about coming back to coming back to
08:55Houston and being uh basically a backup to the guy that they had jilted him for initially yeah you know
09:02hey we like Daniel Hunter better than you uh but now you're coming back and you're also now we're
09:07going to add insult to injury and make you his back years back yeah here's backup um someone said
09:13just don't trade Nico Collins for a second round pick and David Johnson yeah and then act like David
09:19Johnson is a hundred percent going to be the the best version of what he was five years yeah that
09:25was crazy man that was them trying to the whole David Johnson stuff the thing that alarmed me the
09:31most about that trade was that initially I thought okay they're going to try to put some window
09:35dressing on this etc etc but when I realized that they genuinely believed that he was going to all
09:41of a sudden go back to what he was five years ago the delusion was really freaked me out the
09:48delusion
09:48was real at that point and it's like oh whoa whoa whoa now I wasn't helping matters any when I
09:53was the
09:53only eyes we had at training camp during the COVID camp and I was talking David Johnson like he was
09:58back
09:58to his 2016 form so I was kind of part of the problem uh because he because he had a
10:04good physique
10:04yeah he looked good and he was still really athletic he just the biggest difference was you could tell he
10:09just he didn't have the same appetite for contact that he used to and you can't tell that in training
10:13camp you know like you can't so so this is me I can tell it by his film from the
10:17previous years yes
10:18but uh so that that was the interesting thing yep
