00:12This is Andris from South Africa.
00:13I'm a ranger.
00:14I've been a ranger for the Naked and Afraid crew for the last nine years.
00:18This is what we do as rangers.
00:20We do a patrol in the area, not too far off from the survivalists.
00:23We see what animals are in the area.
00:28We need to run.
00:30Something unpredictable shows up.
00:33We're there to handle it.
00:34Things go wrong.
00:39I've been in situations where it's life and death.
00:42Having things charged at you.
00:44We have to get you away from the river right now.
00:47My heart right now is just pushing.
00:50That's my job description here as a ranger to keep these guys safe.
00:53Both the camera crews as well as the survivalists themselves.
00:56We're like security guards in the African bush.
01:00I've protected these people.
01:02They're really badass.
01:03They're survivalists.
01:04But I haven't done it myself.
01:05I haven't placed myself in their shoes.
01:08So now I want to go in and I want to be one of them.
01:12I must say I'm a bit nervous.
01:14More so that I know I'm representing all the rangers.
01:17I'm probably going to bring a fright back and deny getting the fright.
01:20Leaving my gun behind.
01:22Going out there naked.
01:23I think that's going to be something completely else out of this world.
01:26But I'm brave enough to go and give it a try.
01:28So wish me luck guys.
01:30Wish me luck.
01:34I'm just not sure anybody can survive here for 21 days.
01:37Oh my god.
01:41Two strangers.
01:42Pass.
01:44Go, go, go, go, go.
01:45No food.
01:50No water.
01:5321 days.
01:55Don't tap.
01:57Die first.
01:59Naked.
02:00And afraid.
02:09I think the thing that scares me the most about this place is the unknown.
02:13It's thick.
02:14It's green.
02:15Feels like something out of a lost world or something.
02:18Check all of this stuff.
02:19I don't see this stuff out there by me.
02:22This is nothing like Africa.
02:30So the first things I'm noticing for the terrain and the weather is just how wet it is.
02:35It's going to be really hard to make a fire.
02:38It looks like there could be some steep terrain, but it's very dense and just really thick jungle.
02:46All right, here we are.
02:48It's time to get naked.
02:52I have a background in mountain guiding, backpack guiding, and wilderness therapy.
02:57I am drawn to the therapeutic nature of nature itself.
03:02I would describe my survival philosophy more of working with the land and being patient.
03:08I think it's awesome to be like, I know that plant, but not only do I know the name, but
03:14I'm like, I can eat that plant.
03:15You know, it's like I can make a rope out of that plant.
03:18Let's do it.
03:26I love my wife.
03:29Most of us rangers, we're all a little bit crazy.
03:32We dive in head first, but take away my gun, my shoes, my clothes, take away all of that.
03:38Then I don't know how tough we're going to be.
03:40I've never been a survivalist.
03:41My biggest hope is to prove to myself I can do it.
03:44If I do make this 21 days, then I can call myself not only a ranger anymore, but also a
03:50survivalist.
03:51And the downfall if I don't, I'm never going to hear the end of this.
03:55In the Krabi province of southern Thailand, Andreas and Amanda's 21-day challenge begins in the Kiriwang Forest, a sprawling
04:04valley of dense jungle surrounded by 800-foot limestone cliffs.
04:08With Thailand's infamous monsoon season in full swing, heavy rains flood the area, filling streams in natural aquifers with fresh
04:16water, but also creating extreme humidity and spawning a breeding ground of highly toxic plants.
04:23Poisonous insects and ravenous mosquitoes that carry the threat of dengue and Zika virus.
04:30The jungle is infested with over 200 species of snakes, including the 12-foot king cobra, whose powerful venom can
04:39kill an adult elephant with one bite.
04:43I'm really hoping that my partner is competent and works well with others.
04:50Just someone that you can get along with when you're in stressful situations like this.
04:55Hey there, other naked person.
04:57Hello, how's it going?
04:59I'm nice, nice to meet you.
05:00Amanda.
05:00Amanda, are you ready for this?
05:02Oh, I'm ready.
05:03No, let's not like each other, nobody's ever ready.
05:05I'm actually one of the rangers from the Naked and Afraid.
05:08Oh, are you?
05:09No.
05:10But it's the first time this out of the camera.
05:12Right?
05:13Oh, that's awesome.
05:14This is going to be something completely new.
05:15So you know how everything works then.
05:17It's cool to hear that Andreas has been a ranger for Naked and Afraid.
05:20He definitely has protective instincts, and so that's awesome in terms of just making sure we're all okay.
05:26What do we got here?
05:28All right, so let's take this first one.
05:31There's a very ordinary panga machete.
05:33All of us hunters have it on the back of our bucky.
05:35Yeah.
05:35This is very important, fire starter.
05:37Fire.
05:38Even though everything is wet around here, we'll make a plan.
05:40Eventually we'll get something going.
05:43I got some fishing hooks and some fishing line on here.
05:46Then usually I see a pot.
05:48Now I don't.
05:50There is a pot.
05:50So they didn't give us a pot.
05:51With an abundance of potable fresh water in the area, the survivalists have not been given a pot.
05:57Instead, due to a high risk of mosquito-borne diseases, they receive a bug net for protection.
06:02Let us sleep well.
06:04This is quite important.
06:05Oh yeah, the map.
06:06Let's see.
06:07We are there.
06:08Right.
06:09That area is where we are.
06:10It looks like there's some water.
06:11That's going to be obviously where we want to set up the camp.
06:15Mm-hmm.
06:15It looks like we should be heading that direction.
06:18Someone goes as far as we can down this pot.
06:20Mm-hmm.
06:21To reach the nearest fresh water source and set up their camp, Amanda and Andreas will head
06:26four miles northwest through the thick jungle, crawling with venomous centipedes, scorpions,
06:32and black tarantulas, as well as the lethal pit viper that camouflages itself in the canopy in order to ambush
06:39its prey from above.
06:41Man, just look at how thick it is up there.
06:44It is thick.
06:45I must say, from where I come from, this is a complete, complete different scenery.
06:49Yeah.
06:50Because you're used to what?
06:51Being more open?
06:52Yeah.
06:54This is jungle.
06:56This is jungle.
06:57This is a complete different environment.
06:59There's different sounds.
07:00There's different animals.
07:01It's not going to be easy.
07:02I mean, you can even lose yourself if you just take the wrong turn and like, where am I?
07:06You can't see the sky.
07:07You can't see the mountains.
07:08If you're in the thickets with all of this canopy, you're lost.
07:12Now in South Africa, there you can also get lost in the bush quite easily, but at least it's much
07:17more open.
07:17You can mark a mountain.
07:19Of course, you can see.
07:20You can see the sun.
07:21You can follow stuff.
07:23If you get white sap from these plants on you, it'll irritate your skin.
07:28A couple of years ago, a doctor told me that I was positive for Lyme disease.
07:34And so, it's made it more of a challenge to regulate my nervous systems.
07:39And that has affected not only my personal life, but also my career in guiding.
07:45Because there's been moments when I've really had these doubts that I can continue doing things outside.
07:51Because I don't know if my health will uphold.
07:54So, I chose to do this challenge to kind of experience truly what the human body can endure.
08:01Oh, it looks like this is a rubber tree.
08:04So, if we cut into it, it'll have latex.
08:06I think we're being watched right now.
08:09Kind of getting the feeling like we are.
08:17Oh, there's some water.
08:19Found the water?
08:19There may be some spring head we can find.
08:23So, I'm following the water source, trying to find the head of the spring to see where I can get
08:28a visual on it coming out of the rock.
08:30So, you can see there's some light flicker down there.
08:33So, that's telling me there is water coming through this cave system.
08:36So, the water has cut through the limestone.
08:39I definitely think this water is safe to drink.
08:42It looks like that water is either coming from a spring head or it's coming from like an aquifer in
08:46the earth that's coming out of the limestone.
08:49Which means this is going to be clean water.
08:51We can find some bigger bamboo.
08:53Make a nice little flask.
08:56Nice.
08:58Solid.
09:01All right.
09:02We have water bottles.
09:03Take a couple of steps, cool down here and then we go and build the shelter.
09:17What do you think about like one of these spots on this side?
09:20I kind of like this book.
09:21Yeah, it's nice and shady, right?
09:23Was it the little sapling shelters?
09:25Yes.
09:25That would be real easy to make.
09:27Then we can build a smaller shelter just for our fire basically.
09:31Yes.
09:31Amanda and Andreas will first create a sleeping shelter using thin pliable saplings to create an arched framework.
09:37layered with palm fronds.
09:39Then they'll create a separate lean-to structure to protect their fire and supplies from the frequent monsoon rains.
09:53Nice work.
09:56Of all these years as a ranger watching the legends, I've learned a lot.
10:00It was like university.
10:01But all of that is just theory because I never really had to do any of that myself.
10:06I had my gear.
10:07So now let's hope I can put that theory into the test and jump in head first and get it
10:12done.
10:18So if you think about to that rock?
10:20Yeah, we can do it all the way to here.
10:22The fire will probably be somewhere here and it can be protected out of the rain.
10:31I must say, I think we're doing pretty good.
10:33We're doing pretty fine.
10:35Fine as hell actually.
10:40Right now, pluck some.
10:41Oh .
10:44This ain't very good.
10:45What happened?
10:46I just cut my hand and...
10:48Is it deep?
10:48This looks quite deep.
11:06I know we saw a plant coming in, the acacia, and so that has antiseptic properties on it.
11:16Oh, that's one that we saw when we came in.
11:18With the thorns on it?
11:19Yes, I saw one.
11:20Actually, where did I see one?
11:21Just down.
11:22As I'm busy getting stuff for the shelter, I've got a little cut here on my hand.
11:27So what I'm going to do is I'm going to look for some acacia fern.
11:31It's a natural thing.
11:32So you just basically make it in a paste and then you put it on your wood.
11:36Around your hand?
11:37Yeah, that's going to be the best.
11:38Otherwise, it's going to come loose.
11:39Okay.
11:41We went ahead and wrapped it on the hand with a banana leaf and that's kind of helped protect
11:45it and prevent infection.
11:48So just hold that there, please.
11:50Back home, you get it all the time, but it's nothing.
11:53You don't care because, I mean, you can clean it and you're off and you go again.
11:57But out here, you have to realize a small cut like this, this thing can become infected
12:00and this can take me out of this challenge.
12:02All right.
12:03Do you want me to take a turn chopping stuff or do you still feel comfortable chopping things?
12:08Oh, I'm stopping.
12:09Okay.
12:10As a ranger, we're there protecting the guys.
12:13But as a survivalist, you have to actually look out for yourself, not to take too much
12:18unnecessary chances, which is something I have to work on, not just jump in there at
12:24first.
12:24Main priority right now, it is a fire shelter.
12:27And then after that, the fire will become our priority.
12:32Looking good.
12:42So right now, I am getting some dry bamboo flakes for fire tender.
12:51So I have a lot drier tender here than I would just picking up stuff off the ground.
12:57But I'm still nervous.
13:00Everything is still really, really wet.
13:05Getting a fire going, it's very nerve wracking because from the Lyme disease, my nervous system
13:11gets dysregulated easier.
13:14And at times, my body doesn't hold or produce heat super well.
13:19So the fire is really important to me.
13:28Got fire.
13:30Hell yeah.
13:32How say?
13:34I love it.
13:35Right.
13:36I'm very excited.
13:38My partner, Amanda, got a fire going.
13:40Day one, we did it.
13:42And I even got us some stuff for pillows.
13:46Then our bed, pillow.
13:49So yeah, I think we'll be alright for the night.
13:59I think we've done a mighty fine job with this shelter of ours.
14:04Mosquito netting, shelter, rain protection.
14:08Got a mosquito net.
14:10Once you're surrounded by netting, you're safe.
14:13None of the world's terrors can get you underneath the see-through mosquito netting.
14:22Oh, that's fun.
14:24I just bit me.
14:26Oh, .
14:26You alright?
14:28They're starting to bite me or something like that.
14:32Mosquitoes.
14:33Yeah, are you feeling too?
14:34Mmm.
14:35They just multiply.
14:37I think the mosquitoes can still bite us if the net is directly on us.
14:46Man, these mosquitoes, it doesn't stop.
14:48They are killing me out here.
14:53Mosquitoes are getting completely crazy now.
14:56Damn it.
14:57Oh my gosh, I am dying.
15:15So it's day two.
15:16We survived the night.
15:17Our first night out here.
15:19Mosquitoes were crazy.
15:20Everything just bites the shit out of here in this place.
15:22Like, there's just bugs everywhere.
15:26What the is this?
15:29Oh, it's a spider with a bunch of little spiders.
15:33Whoa.
15:35Look at this thing.
15:38Whoa, just spiders.
15:40It's like little ants.
15:42Just little spiders everywhere.
15:45Oh, so that white, look at that.
15:46That white thing was basically the egg of a bunch of little spiders.
15:49Look at all these little spiders on me now.
15:51Like lily like ants.
15:53This is a completely different environment.
15:55But here, I have to prove a point.
15:57I can't be coming in as a badass ranger,
16:00and then my fellow ranger guys see one of their own failing
16:03at something that we're supposed to be quite badass at.
16:10So now we're going to start trying to get us food.
16:13But the only problem is the monkeys,
16:16they pretty much put us on the natural fruits
16:18because they grab what they can grab.
16:20So yeah, it makes it a little bit difficult.
16:22The plan for today is we're going to try to start building some traps.
16:26I would say that my strong points in survival
16:30are more of knowing the different traps
16:32and how to set that for the aquatic life.
16:35Right now, we have the materials for an eel trap.
16:39We do have some bigger pieces of bamboo.
16:41The idea is that the bamboo hole is functioning
16:45as like a hole an eel would normally go into.
16:48You know, they like the little holes to, you know, pop in and out of.
16:51Amanda's bamboo eel trap will be closed and baited at one end.
16:55At the other, she'll build a funnel of sharpened sticks
16:58that will guide an eel into the trap for the bait,
17:00but prevent it from escaping.
17:03This might work.
17:05It's very difficult to find rocks in this place,
17:07but I found a perfect flat rock.
17:10This one's going to work.
17:12I'm making a bunch of deadfall traps
17:14because I've realized I haven't really seen any activity
17:17of any big game or any animals really.
17:20So yeah, it's basically squirrels and rats.
17:24Typically used for small game,
17:26a deadfall trap combines a bait stick with two other notch sticks
17:29in the shape of a four
17:30and held in place by the weight of a large stone.
17:33When an animal disturbs the bait, it triggers the trap,
17:36releasing the stone that pins the animal.
17:39As a ranger on these shows, I've seen a lot of the survivalists.
17:42And, you know, small things that we know from,
17:45you know, protecting these guys, we learn a lot from them as well.
17:48So yeah, let's hope I can remember most of that.
17:53Okay, now it's all about just balancing this bad boy.
17:56Perfect.
17:58But what's just worrying me is I know
18:01you can think you've been under pressure
18:03until you do something like this.
18:05We want to get some lines in the water as well
18:07for the fishing to start now.
18:09We're going to leave him right here for now.
18:10I'm pretty sure it's a good spot.
18:12So this line is going in right over here.
18:17I mean, I've seen where the guys barely get anything to eat.
18:21I've seen how they go backwards,
18:23from good to bad to very bad very quickly.
18:25If we don't get food, then we in deep .
18:31These are little buggers that want to steal our food.
18:33This is something completely out of my comfort zone.
18:36This is not a normal bush felt.
18:39This is a jungle.
18:48Panic!
18:50F***ing killing me.
19:04So I'm up quite early.
19:06I'm going to go to my line,
19:08and see what we have.
19:12Nope.
19:13Here's my other line.
19:15Also empty.
19:17I want to go and check my traps. Nothing has touched it so far.
19:23I'll show you the other ones now, so hopefully we'll catch something.
19:28Unfortunately, I can already see another trap. Also, it's not successful.
19:33It's a waiting game. If you're a bit patient, then watch what's going to happen.
19:54What is that? So nothing's in there other than a little bitty crawdad. It's something.
20:02It's going to be such a quick bite. Let's hope we get something bigger.
20:05It is exactly the taste of when you bite the shrimp's tail and don't take the shell off,
20:12in case anyone was wondering.
20:21I am checking traps.
20:25Prada number two, and we have some breakfast.
20:29I am getting a little bit nervous.
20:31It's reliably catching crawfish, but really tiny ones.
20:35It's kind of exciting to have that in the morning sometimes, but it's not really worth the energy.
20:42It's a lot of effort for not a lot.
20:44The breakfast is served. Man, now I overate. I'm so full.
20:58Yesterday was the first day I really started feeling some weakness from not eating enough calories,
21:05a lot lower energy.
21:07So I'm noticing some shifts in my body, feeling more hunger, pains.
21:25I'm still playing it very lightly, joking around, keeping the mood up,
21:30not trying to put the stress on my partner, like, hey, you know, we're running into .
21:34But to be very honest, we are.
21:36I realize everybody has a lot to say what you can do and how to do it.
21:40And believe me, I know because we as rangers, we always have a lot of things to say that we
21:45would
21:45have done differently. But when you're out there doing it yourself, it's a different story.
21:49We have to get something in one of these traps. We just, we just have to.
22:11I don't want to brag or anything, but I just caught a lizard with my hands.
22:16Let's cook that bad boy up. I got him.
22:21Okay.
22:21So this is what we call a fertler maneki, actually. It's a chameleon.
22:26Yeah, so it's not a lizard, it's a chameleon.
22:29His little tongue's ready to slap you in the face.
22:33This thing barely has any meat on him. So I'm going to use him as live bait for fishing.
22:37She really very badly wants to eat it. I'd rather take that and turn it into a proper meal.
22:42We just have to try and get something bigger so that it can sustain us.
22:45You know, he's right, but the other part of me was like,
22:49can we at least lick the meat a little bit?
22:53See you later.
22:55Yes, yes. Good luck with it.
22:56Hopefully I'm bringing something back to eat. Some lunch.
23:00Good luck with the journeys.
23:02I'm changing it up a bit. I want to go scout the river again,
23:05looking for more places, bigger ponds, bigger areas, because as a ranger protecting the people,
23:10that's just who I am. I'm trying to look out for the both of us just to get food for
23:14us.
23:14To help us to push through, to make this challenge and finish it.
23:18Man, if I had my 22 now, I'd take that squirrel.
23:21Very fast.
23:22No way you're getting close enough for a spear.
23:32Found a place that we haven't even discovered before.
23:35It's quite a nice, deep spot. I have a small chameleon. So I'm putting my hopes on this.
23:42Yeah, now we, now we wait.
23:48Dammit. I was really hoping to get something by now.
23:51Wait, not looking too good.
23:53So yeah, that is quite a concern. If we don't get anything,
23:56this could be something that's, that could be a real problem for us.
23:59But, uh, I'm still gonna continue. At least try and get, get something.
24:14And that, guys, is what I'm talking about.
24:20Damn!
24:22It's been a while since we've had not something small and pitiful,
24:25so there's lots of meat on this feller.
24:27Yeah, we're gonna enjoy our feast.
24:31That spot is very successful, so yeah.
24:33Hopefully, we will be able to get the big ones.
24:42Yes!
24:44Look at this. This one is even bigger than the previous one.
24:52Oh, oh, yeah!
24:54Would you look at that?
24:57Magnificent fish.
24:58I must say, now we are thriving out here.
25:00Got something on this line.
25:02Yeah, it's just stuck here underneath those rocks.
25:05Oh, my.
25:07Oh, yeah.
25:11Snake.
25:12Oh, my.
25:15Look at this.
25:18Two meals in one night.
25:21That is two meals in one night, guys.
25:24Guys, now I am totally stoked.
25:29Tonight, we're having a fiesta.
25:32This is how we rangers roll.
25:34This is how we do it.
25:36We provide.
25:37I'm pulling it like a sock.
25:39Look at this.
25:40All the insides coming out.
25:43Damn!
25:44A little bit more.
25:46How beautiful and clean the snake is.
25:49Look at the meat on that.
25:50Look at that.
25:51Just want to show you our beautiful dinner here that we are cooking.
25:54Oh, my God.
25:56We have a nice snake, nice fish.
25:59May not deny we're going to eat well.
26:01We're killing it out there.
26:03We got some food.
26:04We got some food.
26:06Good fish.
26:07Good fish.
26:09Good fish.
26:10Good fish.
26:35Good fish.
26:39Wow.
26:40Biggest range we've got so far, and it's infiltrating our shelter.
26:44I think we're just going to be swimming at the end of the night.
26:48The monsoon is here.
26:49We've been lucky, dodging it.
26:52But yeah, it looks like our dodging has ran out.
26:55It's time to face the music.
27:19Nice, look at those banana leaves.
27:22Yeah, so we can use these for our roof.
27:25Perfect.
27:28We've been doing really good, especially with all the fish I've been catching.
27:32Plus, the last two or three days, the rain broke out.
27:36So yeah, most of the day we were just in the shelter.
27:39Our biggest threat now is basically going to be the rain.
27:42That's the only thing that can still take us out here.
27:44Yeah, the rain's going to be the big problem.
27:46If there's any chance we're actually going to get food,
27:49it might actually be between these rains as the rains stop.
27:52So I'll definitely be going fishing.
27:54Yeah, and I might start playing around with making some type of a torch
27:58to see if we can catch some frogs or maybe some toads out and about.
28:03A lot of the animals actually are pretty nocturnal,
28:07so we know to expand our hunting menu,
28:11we need to search in the dark for some of the creatures.
28:15To hunt in the dark, Amanda will create torches
28:17by filling bamboo with both fresh and dried latex from a rubber tree
28:22along with shaved coconut husk to fuel the flame.
28:24I'm currently working on a torch.
28:27I'll end up creating some slits in it so that there's airflow.
28:31That's dried latex.
28:34It's white when it first comes out and then darkens as it fits.
28:38I'm going to shove a bunch in the top there and then intermix some coconut
28:42because the coconut oil burns really well also.
28:46So with that mixture, I'm hoping that it's going to give us a really good flame
28:50and give us a lot of light.
28:52We'll see how that works.
29:02All righty, I know you can barely see me, but that's okay
29:04because we're doing torch test number one.
29:08All right, now we're going.
29:10The torch lives.
29:13Well, let's do it.
29:16These torches are doing very well.
29:18That latex really burns.
29:20Yeah, it does.
29:21I don't think it's going to burn too long.
29:23I estimate maybe 15 minutes, 20 minutes,
29:26so we're not going to go too far from camp.
29:29So we're just looking for the little frog holes.
29:33Any signs of movement?
29:37Where's that one frog?
29:38You hear it?
29:39I heard it over there, y'all.
29:48Whenever you go to where one of the frog noises is,
29:51they, of course, stop playing games with us.
29:55Man, they know.
29:56You can hear the frogs all over, but they're very, very clever
29:59and they just go and sit dead still.
30:02If they sit dead still, you walk right past them.
30:11Yeah.
30:12Yeah.
30:12Come slowly towards me.
30:14What do you got eyes on?
30:16Just hold it like this.
30:18Big ass frog there.
30:22Okay, got it?
30:23Mm-hmm.
30:28Got it.
30:29Oh, . That's a huge one.
30:31Look at that.
30:32Damn, we can eat that one.
30:33We can eat this .
30:34What?
30:35You look at that.
30:37I'm going to put it in my bag and hope he's not going to jump out.
30:42Oh.
30:44See something?
30:47Oh, hold it, hold it.
30:49Hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it.
30:51One of those big ones.
30:53Oh, .
30:56I got it, I got it, I got it.
30:57This blend in so well.
31:00That's ridiculous.
31:01I mean, wow.
31:02Nice job.
31:04Look at that.
31:05That's muscle.
31:06We're going to eat some proper frog tonight.
31:09Now we both have a frog, but our time of the tortures is almost empty.
31:14So we're stoked.
31:15We're on our way to go and cook these two bad boys, and then we're going to eat them.
31:20Oh, would you look at that.
31:23Frogs.
31:23I'm quite excited about the size of these things.
31:26Yeah.
31:27Well, I think our night hunting went quite successful.
31:30That was really successful.
31:31I'm really impressed with our torches with that latex.
31:34Okay, so there's one leg.
31:36Perfect.
31:37Now look at that meat.
31:38So much meat.
31:40I'm really amazed at how well the torches held its light and flame.
31:47I don't know where it is.
31:48That's yummy.
31:50That's good.
31:50Very tender.
31:52So I'm really, really proud of that success there.
32:14Day 21.
32:15Extraction.
32:16Ready to go.
32:18Get the hell out of here.
32:19Absolutely.
32:21And I'll just wrap this up.
32:25We're doing this. We're getting out of here.
32:27My emotional state is I'm pretty excited to be on the move.
32:32It's been tiring being out here for these 21 days.
32:35Obviously, we know our camp is right around here, and our extraction is right there at the X.
32:42We follow this cliff line all the way down, and then we're pretty much going to end up right next
32:46to it, somewhere there.
32:48Extraction.
32:48Yeah.
32:48I think that's a good plan.
32:50I believe this is going to be a tough one.
32:51Even though we want to run through our extraction, that's not going to be possible.
32:55We're going to have to take it slowly, otherwise we're not going to reach our extraction.
33:00Cheers.
33:02Out of here.
33:04Back to civilization.
33:06To reach their extraction point, five miles away, Andreas and Amanda must forge their own path out of the valley
33:12by traversing a two-mile stretch of muddy swampland, home to deadly 12-foot king cobras,
33:19before pushing another three miles through the dense jungle, covered in sharp thorns and venomous pit vipers.
33:37The cliff line is coming up ahead.
33:40We'll go through here.
33:40Head straight towards it.
33:42Make sure we have that good landmark.
33:46Oh yeah, the water starts.
33:49Found the swamp.
33:51Yep.
33:54Man, this is some terrible terrain over here.
33:57All of this mangroove.
33:59Yeah.
34:00It makes it very difficult to get a balance.
34:03Mangroove forest.
34:06Very f***ing two-ah walkthrough.
34:10We really have to watch our steps here, so we don't get stabbed by the root system.
34:16These roots are quite sharp.
34:18It's better to walk here through the water than to try all of these root systems of the mangroves.
34:24Let's go through the water.
34:25This is the best option.
34:27Looks like the least resistance.
34:29Working on that is not easy.
34:32In the river itself, that might be one of the best paths.
34:35Although it's also very big dangers in there because you can't see in these darker waters.
34:40Just trying not to get sucked into the mud.
34:47This is definitely a place where all those water snakes would love to live.
34:51That looks deep.
34:52Just watch out for this.
34:57Rocks.
34:58Oh.
34:59That's a big snake.
35:02King cobra.
35:03That is huge.
35:05That snake is the largest venomous snake.
35:08Wow.
35:09Oh my gosh.
35:11Just stand still and let him pass through.
35:18That's a big boy.
35:20I don't like this.
35:30There's a coconut tree and it's very, very tall.
35:33So I got a great idea.
35:35I'm going on a coconut mission.
35:36Now I put my machete on the top of a nice big bamboo to cut the stems of the coconuts.
35:43Where it is, it's just very high up in a tree.
35:47Hopefully you can break that stem.
35:49The coconut is hanging on from and those are quite thick.
36:02So we got one.
36:08There we have a straw.
36:10Now I just put the straw in and...
36:16That is actually very good.
36:18So good.
36:20So fresh.
36:27That's a big snake.
36:28King cobra.
36:29That's a big boy.
36:30I don't like this.
36:33Just stand there still.
36:34He will move off.
36:35He sees we're not threatening him.
36:37He knows we're here.
36:39He saw us.
36:40He's already lifted his head.
36:41He hasn't started making himself wider.
36:46So let's just stand there still.
36:48Let him do his thing.
36:50He's looking at us.
36:51We're looking at him.
36:53He's calming down.
36:54I'm just going to use the stick just to scare him off a little bit.
37:03Wow.
37:04Now that is a proper king cobra.
37:08Holy .
37:09That's a huge snake and it blends in perfectly with the mongrove roots.
37:15Off he goes.
37:17Man.
37:18What a snake.
37:19Took a deep breath there.
37:20Lots of power behind it.
37:21Let's carry on.
37:22Let him go back home.
37:24That's quite a shocker.
37:25King cobra coming across the stream.
37:27Luckily my training as a ranger kicked in.
37:30Much similar to situations back home where I face lion or elephant.
37:35But the difference is that I'm standing there with my big rifle.
37:37I just want to avoid them and get out of this place.
37:44This jungle right here is thicker than anything we've been through thus far.
37:48The cliff line is getting covered up more with vegetation.
37:51I mean you can even lose yourself if you just take the wrong turn.
37:55You can't see the sky.
37:56You can't see the mountains if you're in the canopy.
37:58We just make sure we stay next to the cliff line though.
38:05Ouch.
38:08Some thorns over here.
38:10Watch out for these sharp stones as well here.
38:16Walking through this section of the jungle the rocks are getting really sharp and then the thorns are really picking
38:23up.
38:23They're getting a lot more dense and it's really hard on our feet.
38:26Watch out.
38:27Another sharp rock.
38:29Oh.
38:33Put on.
38:34It's damn sharp.
38:35Poked me this whole trip.
38:37And it's not very nice.
38:39Not pleasant at all.
38:41It's quite difficult to get through all of this stuff.
38:44It will literally cut your food open.
38:46This extraction is quite rough.
38:48But you know what?
38:49Nothing's going to break me now.
38:51I'm just going to push through.
39:00Oh listen.
39:01I hear more water.
39:02You hear the rushing water?
39:03Yeah.
39:05Sounds a little bit like a waterfall.
39:07And if you look at this ridge line over there.
39:09It looks like it's going down.
39:11Yeah.
39:11The sky is opening up.
39:12I think we're getting close to the end of the ridge.
39:14And on the map basically the extraction was at the end of the.
39:17At the end of the cliff line.
39:18Exactly.
39:19So I think.
39:20We're almost there.
39:21We're getting there.
39:23To leave the jungle behind.
39:25Right now it just feels kind of surreal.
39:28It definitely was a long mental game.
39:30And there's just a sense of relief that we finally are exiting that very tough and rough terrain.
39:39We must be getting close.
39:42I can't believe so.
39:43Oh I hear something.
39:46Well this looks like a road over here.
39:48Yeah it's definitely an engine.
39:50I think this is our extraction.
39:51I think this is it.
39:52Here it comes.
39:53Oh there it is.
39:54Put it right there partner.
39:56Hell yeah.
39:57This is the moment we've been waiting for.
39:58That proudness within yourself.
40:00Knowing that you've done it.
40:02You've passed it.
40:03You're still strong.
40:05Woo ha.
40:05We're finished.
40:06Going home.
40:08Hello there.
40:10I do have a sense of accomplishment from this challenge.
40:13Because when I had my Lyme diagnosis.
40:18And was all of a sudden like unsure of what my body was capable of.
40:22What it is to sit down and be equal.
40:24We did it.
40:25To have experienced the full resiliency of the human body myself.
40:29It's kind of a cool feeling to realize and know.
40:32And time for another chapter to start.
40:35After surviving the jungles of Thailand.
40:38Amanda lost 20 pounds.
40:39While her primitive survival rating rises from 5.7 to 6.6.
40:45Going home.
40:46Finally.
40:47We're going home.
40:4741 days and going home.
40:4921 days and we're going home.
40:51So I've done 34 of these challenges on the other side as a ranger.
40:55But to put yourself in a challenge like this.
40:57This is a lot more difficult.
40:59You're going to be hungry.
41:00Tired.
41:00Especially there's big storms.
41:02You're getting wet.
41:02You are completely vulnerable.
41:04So now I am a survivalist as well.
41:06I can put myself right up there with the legends.
41:09And say right guys.
41:11Maybe someday we're going to go toe to toe.
41:14Over the course of his 21 days.
41:17Andreas dropped a total of 23 pounds.
41:19His PSR climbs from 6.7 to 7.5.
41:23Of all the rangers out there.
41:24I hope you guys are going to follow my lead.
41:27And prove your worth.
41:29And show that we tough as nails.
41:32Woo!
41:33Now just hold on.
41:35Yeah, don't fall out of the vehicle.
