00:17It's 9-1-1, what's the address of the emergency?
00:20I think it's on Leesonville, St. Claude, right when you get off the bridge.
00:23Looked like he hit the tree, all the airbags were deployed, and it looked like the guy
00:27in the car is dead.
00:29And what's your name?
00:30Can I say anonymous?
00:31Because I was just passing in the car.
00:34Hello, I need an ambulance.
00:35What is the address, ma'am?
00:38Okay, what's your address?
00:40I'm on Poland.
00:41Okay, Poland, and what else?
00:42I don't know, please.
00:44Hurry up, please.
00:45Can you please disrespect somebody?
00:47He's not going to make it.
00:49Ma'am, we have units en route, okay?
00:59Come on.
01:03Come on.
01:04Don't give up, baby.
01:06Don't give up.
01:08Don't give up.
01:09Don't give up.
01:10Come on, buddy.
01:12We're going to make it.
01:13We're going to make it.
01:14We're going to make it.
01:15We're going to make it.
01:15Yes, he's going to save us before he gets to the hospital, right?
01:17Stay on that.
01:18Yeah, I got you.
01:19They're coming down pole, and he pulls up next to them.
01:22I don't know if they had some kind of argument or something.
01:29I was covering my baby as soon as I heard the shot go off, and then when the shot stopped,
01:34I looked at him, and then the car started going, so I heard up and jumped out the car
01:38with my baby, and the baby's father, he was still right there.
01:42He was like, get the in the car before I kill you, too.
02:07There's been an aggravated battery by shooting in the 5th District, and what I'm learning
02:11is it's an adult male that was shot to the head.
02:15The 5th District is concerned because the victim is in critical condition and is requesting
02:23homicide because they believe that the victim might pass away.
02:30I started my career in the 5th District.
02:33I was a patrolman there for four and a half years, and then I worked as a property crime
02:38detective and a person's crimes detective, so I know the neighborhoods really well.
02:42I've established relationships with a lot of the residents, and I have a really good working
02:50relationship with the officers assigned to the district.
03:09It's been about an hour since the shooting occurred.
03:12Non-lethal shootings are usually handled by the district detectives.
03:16I'm there to assist, I'm there to advise, but at this point I'm not going to be the detective in
03:20charge.
03:22There's a vehicle that has crashed into a tree.
03:26The vehicle impacted that tree really hard for all the airbags being deployed.
03:33I'm seeing blood on the driver's side of the victim's vehicle.
03:39We see the ballistic damage to the interior of the vehicle.
03:43The male victim's gun laying on the grass.
03:57The victim's name is Evans Page.
04:00Evans Page is 27 years old and a resident of New Orleans.
04:18I'm learning that there's a female that was present for the entire shooting and a child that was involved.
04:24See, I think he's going to live, because that's my boyfriend.
04:29What's her name?
04:34What's baby daddy?
04:36Jerrell, J-E-R-R-E-L-L.
04:42So basically the story is and Evans are out here, stopped, minding their business.
04:50Jerrell shows up.
04:52An argument ensues, and then Jerrell...
04:56Five times?
04:58No trouble.
05:00Jerrell Andrews is suspected of shooting Evans Page during a domestic dispute.
05:05And then he was still right here in the street while all this happened.
05:08My child's father, the one who shot him.
05:11And I started screaming at him.
05:12I'm like, you bitch, you going to hell.
05:14Like, I just started going crazy on him.
05:16His exact words to me was, get in the car or I'm killing you too.
05:20The surviving witness states that after the shooting, Jerrell Andrews still has the gun
05:25and tells her to get in his car, or else he was going to kill her too.
05:29I heard her say that the car rolled forward and hit the tree.
05:35Yeah.
05:35Now Mike said that she got out of the car.
05:37Yes.
05:38Right?
05:38Yes, she did.
05:40But if she got out of the car, and I'm telling you, if she wasn't...
05:43It's weird.
05:43She wasn't in the front paths either.
05:45And she, and at first she told me, she said that they tried to take a U-turn, but then
05:49she told me that, that the car had stopped in front of her and they had stopped and they
05:54had gone to an argument and the shooting happened right here.
05:56But then she told me the shooting happened over there.
05:59They got to figure out where the surviving female witness was when Evan's page was shot.
06:06The physical evidence shows blood spatter on the front passenger seat.
06:11Like if you're in that seat, there wouldn't be blood spatter on that seat because it would
06:14have gone on your lap.
06:34The surviving witness is being detained due to the inconsistencies in her statements.
06:40She's transported to the 5th District Station.
06:43She left with the suspect, which leaves some questions with us.
06:47Did she go willingly?
06:48Was she the one that gave the suspect their location?
06:52How did he find them?
06:53And how did she get away?
06:55To the, uh, station.
06:56To the, yeah.
06:57Somewhere in Florida.
06:58After he's done with the, um, the warrant for the car.
07:01We need to do a formal interview with her.
07:03We need to rule her out as being a participant.
07:12Here.
07:13Well, I've got a lot of questions.
07:13I'm part of theático.
07:13Thank you, Dr. Cuxley.
07:14How are you doing?
07:15Thank you, Dr. Cuxley.
07:18I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:18I'm really sorry.
07:19How's this happening?
07:22I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:23I'm Dr. Fac Zach Alexander.
07:24I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:26I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:27How are you doing?
07:28Dr. Cuxley.
07:28I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:29Mr. Cuxley.
07:31I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:31I'm Dr. B.
07:33Now I'm Dr. Cuxley.
07:47She said that she'd been in a relationship with Jarrell Andrews for approximately three years.
07:53She had an infant child with Andrews.
07:55On the night of the shooting, she says that she had gone out with Evan's page
08:00when she begins receiving text messages and phone calls from Jarrell Andrews
08:04demanding that she comes to pick up their child.
08:32You can see her shirt's torn.
08:35You can see scratches on her arm.
08:37You can definitely tell that she's been through a horrific night.
08:40And then we was leaving and we left first.
08:45And then Jarrell pulled behind us.
08:47And I looked at Evan and I'm like, if he follows you, just try to lose him.
08:50Well, this man started going in and out of traffic, cutting in front of us, cutting on side of us.
08:55But we almost wrecked into him because that's how close...
08:57And you had the baby at this time?
08:59Yeah, I had the baby at this time.
09:01They pull over.
09:02Jarrell Andrews comes up to the car.
09:04He begins arguing with...
09:06Evan's page explains to Jarrell Andrews,
09:09you got an issue with...
09:11You guys can take it up later, but I got to get out at four in the morning to go
09:14to work.
09:15So Evan pulled over and asked him and was like, hey, do you have a problem with me?
09:18Like, this is my first time meeting you.
09:20I never told you nothing disrespectful.
09:22Can you get outside of my car?
09:24And then it was just like arguing.
09:26When they got arguing, he was like, you're right.
09:28You don't know me.
09:29So I told Evan, I'm like, look, just put the car on with drive and go.
09:33He's like, the car isn't driving.
09:34I'm like, then just go.
09:35Like, just go.
09:36But I was just like, hit that U-turn.
09:38It was the closest thing to us, you know?
09:39So I was just like, hit the U-turn.
09:41And we was going.
09:42The car was going.
09:43And I mean, just like this.
09:45Just as soon as we got sideways, I heard, bop.
09:48The first time, the first shot that I heard, I hurried up and ducked my baby because I didn't know
09:52who shot.
09:53I didn't know who shot.
09:54So I just ducked over my baby like that.
09:56And then I heard like three more, bop, bop, bop, bop.
10:13As soon as I heard the first shot, I'm just comfortable with my baby like that.
10:16And where was Jarrell when he actually started shooting?
10:19In my passenger window.
10:22Okay.
10:23She confirms Jarrell Andrews is the alleged perpetrator.
10:27As I'm hearing the story, I'm believing her story more and more.
10:32I believe that she's just gone through a really, really difficult, hard night that's very traumatic for her.
10:38My first incident was to jump out the car.
10:40And this man is walking back to his car.
10:43And he's like, get the f***ing Nicole with me before I kill you two.
10:48When she described jumping out, that clarified a lot of stuff for me.
10:52Knowing that the airbags went off and they come out at like 200 miles per hour,
10:55his head's limp because he's been shot.
10:58He's lost consciousness.
10:59Clearly, your head's going to be pushed to the side,
11:01which caused the blood spatter to be on the front passenger seat.
11:04At this point in time, I believe my surviving witness is a victim of this crime.
11:09And I do not believe that she had anything to do with it at all.
11:12So, as we were driving, I'm like, f*** this, I'm about to call the police.
11:16I called 911.
11:18And I was in the car with him the whole time.
11:20So, I was like, I made up a little lie.
11:23I'm like, hey, I was just passing and I seen somebody hit a tree.
11:28You know, on this 911, what's the address of the emergency?
11:44From what the female victim said, Jarrell Andrews drives her to another location.
11:52We learned that the child is safe and did not have to go to the hospital.
11:55I just told her, I'm like, this f*** stupid bitch shot Evans.
11:59Yeah.
12:00And he was like, why the f*** you stay in my business?
12:02I'm like, because you didn't have to harm that man.
12:03That man was not harming you.
12:05Like, that man did not, never tell you on nothing uncomfortable.
12:07He said, I felt threatened.
12:09That man did not, never once touched the gun.
12:11Never.
12:12And then my kid was with me.
12:13A one-year-old little boy was with me.
12:16Like, you don't have enough respect for your son.
12:18Yeah.
12:18Like, that's how you did that?
12:19It's right, you're a f***ing kid?
12:21Yeah.
12:21I'm sure she was absolutely terrified that, of course, she got in the vehicle with Jarrell
12:26Andrews.
12:27Despite what the witness is saying, there is no concrete evidence at this point indicating
12:32or tying Jarrell Andrews to the shooting.
12:40Oh, okay.
12:41Perfect.
12:42It feels perfect.
12:43As soon as Jarrell Andrews left the location, that female victim went back to the crime scene.
12:48Oh, buddy.
12:51She doesn't know where Jarrell Andrews went.
12:54She's concerned because he's still out and he's still armed, as far as she's aware.
12:58I never thought I'd be a s***er.
13:01My next steps are going to be to confirm everything that she's said.
13:06While I believe her, I need confirmation.
13:08I need video from anywhere and everywhere I can get.
13:12I'm going to try and get all the information I possibly can on Jarrell Andrews.
13:38This was supposed to be a normal child exchange that turned into a domestic violence situation,
13:45and then turned into a shooting incident.
13:48A victim is in very critical condition.
13:50He's currently on life support.
13:52He's not expected to make it.
13:55He took two shots.
13:56He took one to the head.
13:58He took another one to his arm, which is, at this point in time, is suspected to be done
14:03with a 410 shotgun shell, but that can be fired in handguns as well.
14:09By the time we got out there, the scene had been processed already.
14:13An aggravated assault or an aggravated battery by shooting is processed a little bit differently.
14:17They don't sketch the crime scene.
14:20I was able to come out on the scene last night.
14:23The car was still there, but nothing else was.
14:26Jumped the curb, hit this tree, and then stopped, like, before the pole.
14:34Like I said, I don't think we're going to have a whole lot of luck to see what we can
14:37see.
14:42The shooting occurred in Orleans Parish at the intersection of Poland and North Johnson.
14:48There's not a whole lot of surveillance in some of the areas, so that can be very challenging.
14:54Hey, this is Detective Michael Haynes with NLPDE.
14:57You guys got a location on Poland?
15:00Oh, their office closed at 5.
15:01Do you know when they open again?
15:02Is it on, like, Monday?
15:04Monday at 8 a.m.
15:05Okay.
15:07My name is Detective Haynes.
15:08I'm investigating the shooting that took place out here last night.
15:11Did you hear anything or see anything?
15:14Okay.
15:15Hey, how you doing?
15:16Good, how are you?
15:18I'm here investigating the shooting that took place outside last night.
15:22Oh, that was a shooting?
15:23I thought it was a wreck.
15:24No.
15:24The doorbell was not hooked up.
15:27Unfortunately, on scene, I'm unable to locate any video footage.
15:31There doesn't appear to be any cameras or witnesses to help the investigation.
15:37Hello?
15:38Hey, Sarge.
15:38Sorry to bug you again.
15:39How you doing?
15:40No, sir.
15:40All right.
15:41I just sent you, basically, it's what's typed out from the recording.
15:45That's in your email.
15:46Oh, cool.
15:49So you found, like, a call for service, then?
15:52Yeah.
15:52The girl's going to be actually seeing that.
15:54Oh, yeah.
15:55That's going to be up there.
15:57So.
15:59St. Bernard Parish knows what has occurred, what the risks are, and they're aware that if
16:04anything comes out for her residents to come as quick as possible to keep the female victim
16:09safe.
16:11They were saying that the deputies that came on scene last night were able to perhaps
16:15enter the vehicle and block.
16:17It's a black Chevrolet Malibu.
16:19That was, they only had the three numbers on the license plate.
16:23I think I remember seeing one with a 705.
16:26Never mind.
16:27Dude, I got so many cases going on in my head.
16:29But, yeah, I think I saw one with seven of them.
16:31Yeah.
16:32I'll keep you posted.
16:33Cool.
16:35All right, bro.
16:36He's going to look through their automatic license plate reader to find out if they can
16:40track the perpetrator's vehicle.
16:43Allegedly, they were able to track it last night and see it when it left the parish after
16:48it had dropped her off.
16:51Right now, we're headed to Chef Mentor Highway, which is the super center.
16:55This is the location where they have stopped and did the child exchange.
17:01If there is video, we're going to see a domestic fight out there between and the perpetrator.
17:09Luckily, they do have parking lot and cameras.
17:22Hey, how's it going?
17:24My name is Detective Fiends.
17:25I'm looking into a shooting that took place.
17:27A shooting?
17:27It didn't happen here.
17:28But the domestic happened in y'all's parking lot.
17:31So I was trying to see if you guys have footage around like 915 to 940.
17:35It's going to be a black Chevy Malibu and a golden color Cadillac SUV.
17:42There's at least 16 cameras outside that could have captured the incident, and it's going
17:47to take some time to recover the footage.
17:48At this time, the case is with a 5th District detective as an aggravated battery by shooting,
17:54just in case this becomes my homicide.
17:56I want to be prepared and know that I have done everything I possibly can to make sure
18:00that we can solve this case.
18:01One of the f***ing statements is that Jarrell Andrews told her that he doesn't care about
18:07the baby.
18:08He just wanted her.
18:10Unfortunately, though, an innocent man may lose his life over it.
18:42That's the female victim.
19:01He's talking about the incident, and he's telling her to stop.
19:04The ring camera footage supports what the female victim told us last night.
19:12At one point, the person on camera shows Jarrell Andrews and tells him the whole incident is
19:19being recorded.
19:20I think the ring doorbell and the other person being home, I believe, that kept the female
19:25victim alive.
19:27So basically, the probable cause is going to be based off of her statement and her identification
19:32of the shooter.
19:33Most likely, the firearm used to shoot Evans Page was a Taurus judge, which is a pistol that
19:39shoots small shotgun shells, more specifically, 410 shotgun shells.
19:44During the processing of Evans Page's vehicle, wads consistent with a 410 shotgun shell were located
19:52within the vehicle.
19:53My shotgun shell has the actual shell that ejects, but inside are, like, the BBs, the
19:58powder.
19:59And then on the end, there's the wad.
20:02And the wad's pushed out with the BBs.
20:04And that's what's inside the car.
20:06Additionally, this is consistent with the injuries that Evans Page sustained to his head and his
20:11arm.
20:11However, the male victim's gun laying on the grass was fully loaded.
20:16It had never been fired.
20:20So what did you learn from last night?
20:23Because I remember being on the scene last night.
20:25What did we learn since then?
20:27So her story is lined up pretty well.
20:30We're trying to corroborate the story about it's just the parking lot is freaking huge.
20:35I saw a couple RTCC's cameras.
20:37That's great.
20:38Yeah.
20:38See if I can see them falling on each other and stuff like that.
20:41Any idea where he is?
20:43No, I have no idea.
20:44Apparently, he left.
20:45So St. Bernard used their flock system, and they know he left the parish last night after
20:50a couple minutes after dropping her off.
20:53So I don't know where he fled to yet.
20:54I'm going to get RTCC to run his plate to.
20:57It's ever-evolving.
20:59It is.
20:59When I used to work in the 5th District, I would have people come into the station and
21:05be like, hey, I'm here for a child custody exchange with someone coming out.
21:09All the station's parking lots are recorded.
21:12And that's the sad part is she, from this new guy that she met, he has no criminal history
21:17whatsoever.
21:18So she finally-
21:19He's like a good dude, right?
21:19He's a good dude.
21:21He's a good dude.
21:21That's unfortunate.
21:22What's his status right now?
21:24I need to call his mom or stop by the hospital again pretty soon.
21:27I would definitely go check on his status.
21:29Yeah.
21:30That's what I'm going to do.
21:31Okay.
21:31Cool.
21:32All right, man.
21:32Great job.
21:33I appreciate it.
21:33Any time.
21:43We're headed to the University Medical Center.
21:46We'll be going to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit to see his status.
21:50If the victim is still alive, the suspect is going to be charged with attempted second
21:57degree murder.
21:59And if unfortunately he has passed, he'll be charged with second degree murder.
22:04I'm also going to speak with my rank about charging with kidnapping and child endangerment
22:10for shooting into the car with his own kid inside.
22:13And I think that definitely deserves those charges, especially the kid being inside and
22:20then him forcing the female victim to go with him.
22:24As a homicide detective, it's kind of a strange place for me to be in the intensive care unit.
22:31Usually my victims are deceased.
22:42The mom's having a really hard time with this.
22:46Her son is a very good person.
22:49He's very involved in this community.
22:51He's a boxer.
22:53He helps help children in the community.
22:57It's hard being in that room, dealing with a mom who's grieving, seeing the actual victim
23:02who's dying, and I have to talk to her, but she has no thought that he may not make it.
23:09And that's really tough.
23:13Well, not much has changed.
23:17They're starting to take him off of sedation, but he's not waking up.
23:21At this point in time, I'm 100% sure who shot him.
23:29Now, I'm going to go talk to my sergeant.
23:32Hopefully she's in the office.
23:34And then type the arrest warrant.
23:38The case is still with the district because it's a non-lethal shooting at this point.
23:42This is involving two bureaus.
23:44I need to make sure everybody's on the same page.
23:47Hey.
23:48Hi.
23:49How are you?
23:49I'm good.
23:50You?
23:50Doing okay.
23:51I got the ring cameras from the house.
23:56They're pretty accurately depicted on what the female victim said happened.
24:00Someone needs to write this warrant.
24:01I don't think Walter would mind just letting him know officially, like, yeah, we're going
24:04to take it over.
24:05So there's no miscommunication.
24:07And there's no misunderstanding.
24:09Cool.
24:10That's cool.
24:15Hey, LT.
24:16Got you on speakerphone with Mike.
24:18We're talking about this kind of 2730 right now.
24:21And I just want to make sure we're all on the same page.
24:23Mike is going to run with this case.
24:25Did we find the girl today?
24:27Yeah, we did find the girl.
24:29I spoke with her again.
24:31She's potentially in danger.
24:33I agree.
24:33She is in danger.
24:35All right.
24:36All right.
24:37We're getting this arrest warrant tonight?
24:38Yeah, I'm doing it right.
24:39I'm doing it right now.
24:41The sooner we can get him off the street, the better.
24:44While the victim is still alive, my next steps are going to be to get an arrest warrant
24:48for Jarrell Andrews for attempted secondary murder, secondary kidnapping, domestic abuse,
24:53battery, and child endangerment.
25:14I was able to get some footage that shows a male victim arriving at the park, along with Jarrell.
25:23This is the initial video of them arriving.
25:26So that's going to be the suspect's car right there.
25:29And then you're going to have a *** in the parking lot.
25:32She's trying to get Jarrell to stop.
25:34She wants to get their kid, because that's the reason why Jarrell was so adamant about
25:41them come picking up the kid, was allegedly for the kid.
25:46But from my opinion, it was a ploy for him to stop the date with her new boyfriend.
25:53She's still trying to get Jarrell to stop, and Jarrell's still not stopping.
25:59So you can see in this video that Jarrell just passes by.
26:02He's flying by in the parking lot, like, driving.
26:04It appears to be, like, with no regard to anybody.
26:06So that's the Cadillac that they were in.
26:08You can see *** in the passenger seat, and the male victim in the driver's seat.
26:12This goes on for, like, probably eight minutes or so.
26:18Of them trying to meet up.
26:21Unfortunately, they end up meeting way over here, where there's no, like, camera view.
26:26Finally get the baby and get in their car and leave with Jarrell in pursuit of them.
26:31Through their surrounding neighborhoods for, like, 10, 15 minutes.
26:35Before Jarrell finally forces them off the roadway.
26:39Getting all these little itty-bitty things that don't seem important by themselves are actually really important.
26:45Because this shows, in several other pieces of evidence that we've gotten, that everything she says is true.
26:50And so that makes her a more reliable witness.
26:54The surveillance does show them there, which helps.
26:57But it's not 100%, because it doesn't show the alleged domestic abuse battery that occurred in the parking lot.
27:02But I'm now looking for more video in the area.
27:07I need to go to the Real-Time Crime Center to help me solve this case.
27:21Well, I did an automatic license plate reader search and learned that the vehicle, Jarrell Andrews' vehicle, had come into
27:29Orleans Parish after the fact.
27:31It hasn't left.
27:32So it's probably parked somewhere.
27:35I'm thinking somewhere in the Gentilly area.
27:38So I'm kind of following them down to where we know that car was when it entered St. Bernard Parish.
27:44Because their ALPR picked it up at 9.55.
27:48And it's also when the 911 call came in.
27:50And I'm kind of lucky on this one, because I got a surviving victim that can be my cheat sheet
27:55and tell me what to look for and where to look for it.
27:579.47.
28:04That's going to be his car.
28:06The turn signal on.
28:07I don't know what it is about people, but once they shoot somebody, they always use their turn signals.
28:12I guess you're trying not to get pulled over.
28:21Approximately 9.49.
28:26So this one, all you get is the...
28:28He's in the lane at this time.
28:30I locate one camera that captured Jarrell Andrews following Evan's page and the female victim.
28:36However, they turn off real quickly.
28:38And I don't see the victim's vehicle.
28:46Oh, the taillights are...
28:48So this one's broken.
28:49I know that that's what's specific about this Malibu.
28:52So this light right here is going to be broken.
28:55This one's not illuminated.
28:57And there's a scratch underneath these two lights, underneath where it says Malibu over here.
29:02So that's going to be him.
29:04That's going to be him.
29:06I think it's important to backtrack everything that the witness says because she's a sole witness.
29:11So we can show what she's telling is the truth because the actual shooting is not on camera.
29:15It's not going to be on camera.
29:16So we need to prove that her statement is truthful and what she said was truthful and kind of, like,
29:22show what happened.
29:23There's proof that what she's saying happened, happened.
29:26Everything's been lining up with what she said.
29:29Where she said they were is lining up.
29:31What happened after the fact is lining up.
29:34Following the shooting, you can see Jarrell Andrews' vehicle traveling through the Lower Ninth Ward toward St. Bernard Parish.
29:42I'm issuing a department-wide bolo for Jarrell Andrews and his vehicle, letting all officials know that he is possibly
29:49armed and dangerous.
29:51We need to find him before he can destroy evidence or flee the state.
30:24We need to find him before he can destroy evidence or flee the state.
30:26Since Evan's page has passed, it upgrades the charges from attempted second-degree murder to second-degree murder.
30:33And so I'll be obtaining an additional arrest warrant with a new charge of second-degree murder.
30:41Hey, Rob, you just got picked up.
30:44You just got arrested in Houston, Texas.
30:47Oh, you got Jarrell?
30:49Yep.
30:49That's going to give him some justice.
30:51Yeah.
30:52And NLP's got to go pick him up and bring him back to New Orleans.
30:55Good job, buddy.
30:55Thanks, man.
30:56I appreciate it.
30:56You apprehend it.
30:57Good.
30:59Working with the U.S. Marshals, we were able to track Jarrell Andrews inside of Harris County, Texas.
31:06We don't have actual footage of the incident, so it would be nice if we—it's always nice if you can
31:16get a confession because then sometimes they provide a reason.
31:19And while there's never a good reason to kill somebody, maybe it would bring some type of understanding or reasoning
31:30behind what he did.
31:33Evan's page was trying to do the right thing, giving up his movie night with his new girlfriend just to
31:40go pick up a child, which ended with him losing his life.
31:44The mom was very hopeful that he was going to make it.
31:47Oh, yeah?
31:48Yeah.
31:48She was hanging on, huh?
31:49She was hanging on.
31:51She—every time I saw her, you know, she had some form of hope.
31:56Evan's mom told me that he was supposed to have his first professional fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, one week
32:03after the shooting occurred.
32:07We're about to get in early in the morning.
32:09Y'all see what time it is, Evan?
32:11It's a pretty heartbreaking situation to learn that not only a good person, but an athlete in his prime lost
32:18their life.
32:22We don't know what time they're going to be in town because they're still—they might be on their way back
32:29finally by now, but that's six hours away.
32:31It might be eight or nine o'clock tonight.
32:34Unfortunately, I have family obligations that I need to attend to.
32:37So I'm going to ask James Fyfe to assist me with the interrogation.
32:42What's happening?
32:43One of my suspects got arrested and—or picked up by Vows in Texas today, and they're on their way back.
32:49I was really hoping that you do miss all of it.
32:51You want to interview him?
32:52Yes.
32:53If you could interview him, I'd be forever in your debt.
32:56It's a collaborative unit, and it's not unusual for us to help each other out here and there as needed.
33:02I'm not super familiar with the case, but I have some time to study up on Jarell Andrews and the
33:07evidence Mikey has against him in this case and sort of brief beforehand.
33:11Jarell Andrews was going to meet up with the female victim for a child custody exchange.
33:16They ended up trying to flee in a vehicle, which Jarell Andrews followed them, ended up with Jarell Andrews shooting
33:22Evan's page.
33:23Yeah, I think I read something about this.
33:26And you're hoping to get him to talk about the incident, give you context, motive, whatever.
33:32If he wants to share what the murder weapon is, that'd be super cool.
33:35Yeah, I'll consider how you can repay me, and I'll definitely let you know.
33:39That's awesome.
33:40All right.
33:40Well, I hope you get a confession, man.
33:42That's all we can ever hope of, right?
33:43Oh, okay.
33:43Yeah.
33:43You got this.
33:44Coming your way.
33:44Full confession.
33:45You got this.
33:45I got you.
33:48The goal in any interview, first and foremost, is just to get the person talking.
33:52The longer you can extend that conversation, the better.
34:08I'm Detective Fyfe, all right?
34:09Look, I'm just here to help out.
34:11The case detective couldn't come in, so that's why I'm even.
34:15It's a strong case, obviously, an arrest warrant and everything.
34:18We think we know what happened, but before we submit, like, a report, we want to make
34:22sure we get all the signs of the story that we can.
34:33So tell me, what made you have to defend yourself?
34:36If you had a gun, I'm driving my son-o to his mama.
34:39I was still on the parent's side of the door, where she was at.
34:43Talked to her, watching me in the car.
34:45He got the car, came around the car, and a person took me and pushed me.
34:49Well, he didn't actually push me, but he, like, shoved me, like.
34:51He had his hand on his gun.
34:54And my life was threatened.
34:56Yeah, sure.
34:57He had a gun in his hand.
34:59And you had your own gun, also.
35:02My shit was in my pocket.
35:03Okay.
35:04It was in my pocket.
35:05But at some point, you must have taken it out, right?
35:08Because he ended up shot.
35:10I'm wondering, like, what happened there, and how did we get to that?
35:13But it was the moment, the moment, like, you threw up this gun, like, and that's, I guess
35:18that's what happened.
35:19I wasn't trying to do it on purpose, but I'm defending myself.
35:22Sure.
35:23When somebody claims self-defense, as Jarrell starts to do, you need to get kind of right
35:28down to the nitty-gritty.
35:29In what way they felt threatened, was the gun already in their hands, or did they retrieve
35:33it because of some prompt?
35:36People, I think, would like to just say it was self-defense and leave it at that.
35:40But if you can, walk me through exactly what happened.
35:43Do you remember how many times you had to shoot him?
35:49Yeah.
35:50Do you remember where you shot him?
35:56Okay.
36:00And did he?
36:03Okay.
36:04What happened to the gun that you used during this?
36:09I don't know.
36:14Did you know who this guy was, that got shot?
36:18No.
36:19You never heard of them or met them or anything?
36:21No.
36:22After that, what happens next?
36:31She got in your car and you guys left?
36:34Okay.
36:34And you had your kid too, right?
36:36I would drive my kid out to work the next day.
36:40Why did she get in the car with you?
36:42I was like, she told them, she got leave, there's too much going on, she got to leave.
36:46She said all the time, like that.
36:48Did you make your ex get in the car with you and leave?
36:54Like, why would I do that?
36:55Why would she get in the car with you?
36:57That also seems weird.
36:57She wanted to bring her home.
36:59That's what she told me.
36:59She told me, she got to get out of there.
37:01She tried to set me up.
37:10When you say she set you up, like, she set you up to look bad or get in a fight?
37:15They set you up to kill you.
37:17That too, that too, that too.
37:19You think she wanted to kill you?
37:20Well, I mean, if they wanted to kill you, why didn't he shoot you?
37:25Um, I don't know.
37:27See, that's what I'm saying.
37:28I don't know why I said, I don't know why the shit you bought him.
37:30It's between me and her.
37:31Not nobody else.
37:32Right, right.
37:33And then he intervened, like, sort of comes between you guys.
37:37He jumps on the human and the girl.
37:39The person with a, he kept rushing me.
37:41And I'm trying to say, have a conversation about the baby to the girl.
37:45Yeah.
37:47So, uh, go back and step, okay?
37:50For a lot of interviews with suspects, you're trying to get into motive and their past relationship.
37:56You're so crazy, son.
37:58You know, to think that Jarell and Evans didn't even really know each other is, um, I don't know, it's
38:03just kind of a strange scenario.
38:05There we go.
38:27hey dude hey man um so that's all taken care of i just wanted to debrief with you if you
38:32got a
38:32minute yeah of course um yeah so we got into it um he said it was self-defense that um
38:38the uh
38:40yeah yeah so he said um that uh she said that the new boyfriend um had a gun with an
38:49extended
38:49magazine and was like flashing it when they met in the parking lot to do the kid exchange he said
38:55at some point he he went back to his car and retrieved his gun and came back and he was
39:02kind
39:02of like fuzzy at this point but he you know he said i i had to shoot him because i
39:06feared for my life
39:07he truly wanted us to believe that the incident took place outside the vehicle with evans page
39:12being the aggressor it's not supported by any evidence all the blood spatter and ballistic
39:18evidence shows that evans page was in the vehicle and here's where it gets interesting he said
39:23his ex-girlfriend then just gets in his car with their kid um without him asking her to or threatening
39:32her or anything i asked him um what happened to the gun that you used he couldn't remember
39:39may not have the murder weapon but it's a solid case we have a strong witness we have lots of
39:46physical evidence and we have his admission evans page's mom and family are happy that he's in
39:53jail so it's a good day it's a really good day evans page's family they're going to get the
39:59opportunity to get justice for for evans page
40:17this is him for his golden birthday 27 at 27 he was told that he was going to get taken
40:24out to dinner
40:25and they ended up giving him a birthday party and that was actually his last birthday evans did
40:34everything right i mean you couldn't ask for a better gentleman student employee he was just
40:45good at whatever he did whatever he set his mind to he did it this is from his first tko
40:55his and his
40:56very it was his very first fight he was really giving boxing all that he had he passed away in
41:04august
41:05in september he had a boxing match in las vegas he called me he said mom what's your favorite color
41:16i say blue he said what color blue i say any color blue and so i found out after he
41:25was getting that he
41:26was getting his things originally made yeah um that's my grandmother's name right there lois d lois
41:33germ and on the other side it says evans page so that's made specifically for him we waited on it
41:45for months and it actually came the second day he was in the hospital so i brought it up to
41:51the hospital
41:53and i said i'm not gonna touch the plastic on it i said i'm gonna wait till you get better
41:56and you
41:57gonna take the plastic off of him and that's why the plastic is still on it because he never
42:01got the chance to take the plastic off
42:05he left that afternoon about six he told me he said i'll be back ma told me he loved me
42:14when we made it to the hospital he squeezed my hand and i was just telling him i love him
42:24the fact of the matter is my son is gone i'll never see him again you know you can tell
42:31yourself
42:31every day what the reality is but just dealing with it and accepting it's something totally different
42:39i don't wish this feeling on anybody me and him used to do a lot together he was pretty much
42:50my everything
42:52yeah
