00:10a 9-1-1 call came in an armed intruder broke into this house just here like the loudest bang
00:16i saw my wife laying on the ground she was only 39 years old at the peak of her life
00:23it was awful all i kept thinking about were her kids and how are they going to get through life
00:29without her we have a murderer in camouflage running around the neighborhood the entire
00:36street was full of state troopers and police dogs do you know of anybody who would want to do this
00:42the contractor he took their money and they were taking him to court he was pretty hostile towards
00:48them usually in a murder case you hear about dna but in this case the fitbit completely contradicted
00:57his story and was the star of the show he thought he had the perfect plan and that he could
01:03get away
01:04with it it hadn't been a spur of the moment crime this was a planned cold-blooded murder
01:30ellington connecticut is a charming small town it's a farming community
01:37it's probably one of the friendliest places on earth to live it is filled with cornfields and cows and we
01:46all kind of help each other out whenever we need it crimes are very rare in ellington that kind of
01:54stuff
01:54doesn't happen there
02:019-1-1 can i help you hello
02:09what's the address hello
02:14at 10 16 a.m a 9-1-1 call came in from a male moaning into the farm
02:20and it was a reported home invasion on birchview drive in ellington
02:25a home invasion in a small town like ellington would be considered a major crime so at that point
02:30all the troopers that we had are sent to that area so the first troopers that get there they go
02:35in
02:35guns drawn to clear the house through the front door which was unlocked to find rick debate the
02:44homeowner alive on the kitchen floor lying on his face one hand zip tied to a folding chair one hand
02:52outstretched and blood on the floor rick debate appeared to be injured but stable and immediately
02:59described the intruder as a stocky large male about six foot four the deep grovelly like vin diesel type
03:08of voice dressed all in camouflage and wearing gloves he asks him for his wallet and assaults him
03:15with a box cutter and a low torch but then he says that down in the basement in front of
03:23him
03:24the intruder killed his wife connie debate
03:33rick was in shock but he thinks the intruder had fled the basement out to the backyard
03:39two of the troopers were sent downstairs to clear the basement they could see blood on the stairs blood
03:46on the wall when they walked down there they'd have to go through an area that had tools on the
03:51floor
03:52they immediately see a handgun on the floor and then notice the bulkhead is open
03:59in connecticut we call it a bulkhead it's the cellar door that covers the opening of the basement at the
04:06ground level and then in a dark section of the basement they find rick's wife lying on her back
04:16deceased arriving on the scene there was police cars all in the neighborhood the media was already
04:22assembling by the time we arrived rick debate had already been transported to the hospital because he
04:28had puncture wounds on both of his legs his left shoulder and cuts on his head but they're not
04:34life-threatening the entire street was full of state troopers and police dogs it was insane i had looked
04:44out my kitchen window and saw a state trooper with his rifle drawn on connie's house
04:53connie to be was one of my best friends i had no idea what was going on and i immediately
04:58called connie
05:01i was panicked and was hoping that she would answer her phone
05:07but she did not
05:10when we turned on to birchview drive it was a scene i'll never forget there was a sense of urgency
05:16neighbors don't know is someone on the loose are they worried for our safety we were told to stay
05:23in our houses so i was really scared for us as a neighborhood but i was also nervous and scared
05:30for
05:31connie and rick we have a six foot four stocky vin diesel murderer and camouflage running around the area
05:43and who knows what that person's capable of our department basically locked down all the roads
05:48in the neighborhood got a hold of the local schools community was shocked was was shaken our team is out
05:57interviewing neighbors to find out if they saw anything going on out of the ordinary as well as
06:02for information about connie and rick debate speaking those witnesses earlier on that morning
06:10everything appeared normal nothing out of place some of the neighbors that were particularly close
06:17with the debates described connie as a wonderful fun friend that they loved and rick was the life of
06:26the party connie moved into the neighborhood and that's when i met her she was bringing uh everyone
06:33homemade fudge in a way to introduce herself and she just had this vibe about her that just drew
06:40you to her she was the most caring loving thoughtful person that i have ever met in my life connie
06:48was
06:49a pharmaceutical sales rep and an emt because that was just her nature is to help people connie was a
06:56extraordinarily good mom and had two boys seven and nine connie and rick met at a party after college
07:09he was a very good friend and he was a very good friend and he was a very good friend
07:15and i instantly
07:16grew to like him connie and rick were the couple that everybody was a little jealous about they never
07:25fought they joked around a lot together he doted over her they were a match made in heaven
07:41everybody's still looking for the person who committed the home invasion but at this point
07:46i'm assigned to go talk to rick he's the only witness that we have that knows what happened in the
07:52house
07:53so when he got to the hospital we walk into rick debate's room we could see a little bit of
07:57dry
07:58blood on his face and we could see blood on his hands from fighting the assailant he's got some
08:04superficial injuries from the assault do you know of anybody who would want to do this contractor
08:12it was a contractor that we took the small claims for because he took some of our money
08:17i sent a text to our sergeant at the house just to let him know that this person could be
08:23on the
08:23radar and they had already learned of the contractor through one of the neighbors
08:29i told the police that when i had seen the state trooper with his rifle drawn on connie's house all
08:37i
08:37kept thinking about was that she had told us about some issues that she was having with a contractor
08:43he did a job that was not complete he took their money and they were taking him to court and
08:49um he
08:50was pretty hostile towards them i thought maybe the contractor had barricaded them into the house
08:57and had connie and rick holding them against their will the neighbors saying it and rick saying it
09:04so this person could definitely be somebody of interest and that's why the sergeant sent two detectives
09:10right away to talk to him there were two separate vandalism calls a couple months before connie had
09:19been killed my window was fast they decided to get a gun for personal protection the quote was i'm
09:25sticking to my story and i need to get a lawyer this person who's charged with murder is just out
09:33and about
09:34what is going on
09:41what is going on
09:50we had the dog teams that were out searching the woods looking for the assailant but we were given
09:56information about a contractor that may have been having a feud with the debates about work not
10:02completed at their house rick said they were taking him to court this was the only person that we knew
10:08so
10:08far that could have a problem with the debate family and his name was ken sweeney two detectives
10:15are sent out immediately to find ken sweeney to talk to him about his whereabouts that morning
10:21he had to go to the hospital at the hospital rick debate also told us about two separate vandalism calls
10:27two months before connie's murder and they had to do with vehicles one with rags stuffed into connie's
10:33tailpipe for the following week my window was smashed freaked us out a little bit connie immediately called me and
10:43she was
10:43really convinced that the contractor had done this soon after that they decided that it would be
10:49a good idea to have a gun in the house for protection
10:55next we asked rick debate to clarify the timeline so we could figure out exactly what happened
11:01at connie and rick's home that morning he had left for work it was around 8 30 or so
11:08forgot my laptop turned around
11:14he sends his boss an email that he has to go back to his house
11:17gets home around nine o'clock in the morning he goes in through the garage
11:23once he gets inside he hears noises up in his bedroom so he goes upstairs and checks and that's
11:28when he runs into an intruder in the walk-in closet i opened up and there's this channel flies dude
11:36this is where it all just gets so i never had a night this happening i think i just take
11:40your time
11:42i can see that it was hard for him to talk about but rick said the intruder had a bowie
11:48knife on him
11:50grabs him asks him for his money his wallet and his pin numbers which he gave to him
11:59at the house in the bedroom nothing appeared to be ransacked
12:03in rick and connie's closet we did locate on the top shelf a locked gun box we found the key
12:10in the
12:11drawer of their nightstand inside that was a ruger 357 unloaded with a trigger lock on it the intruder
12:19probably didn't see it up there rick hears the garage door open and he realizes that it's connie
12:26coming back home from a workout at the local ymci that's when i yelled there's someone in the house
12:33she must have ran into the basement because we have two guns in the house one was in the basement
12:38in the lock box and one's in our closet the one downstairs was loaded the intruder runs down the
12:46stairs and then rick chases the intruder down into the basement guys you hear like the loudest bang
12:56and i saw my wife laying in the ground i didn't hear her at all after that
13:04we ventured into the basement right at the bottom of the stairs there was obvious drops of blood on
13:10the floor there was a butane torch zip ties a hammer utility knife
13:18and clearly on the floor was another ruger 357 revolver there was three spent rounds and there
13:26was two live rounds still in the cylinder just beyond where the 357 was located located connie
13:33deceased on the floor she was laying on her back she had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to
13:41the back
13:41of her head and also a gunshot wound to her belly in a downward trajectory we searched the area to
13:49see
13:49if there was a third round and in fact we did find a bullet projectile in the ceiling joist connie
13:57had a cell phone tucked into her waistband as well as a fitbit monitor clipped to the waistband on her
14:03left side after rick sees the intruder shoot connie the intruder drags rick debate sets him down into a
14:13chair zip ties one leg and one arm to this chair and then assaults rick with a razor knife and
14:21a blow
14:22torch from the basement which all belong to rick when i hear the zip ties i'm thinking okay the assailant
14:28came prepared to restrain someone could it be a targeted home invasion somebody who has a problem
14:33with the debate feeling like the contractor ken sweeney who detectives are still looking for
14:39saw an opening to grab porch and all i did was just push it up toward his face area it
14:46felt like i
14:47mean burn him a little at that point the intruder drops everything he's doing and runs out the basement
14:52through the bulkhead i walked up the stairs called whatever so you got away from the chair at that
15:01point i was still attached to me once he gets upstairs that's when he grabs his cell phone and then
15:07calls
15:079-1-1 next all electronic devices that the scene were seized as evidence that would include cell phones
15:19laptops ipads i've never personally seized a fitbit at a crime scene but we took that as well let's
15:25get the warrants ready for all the electronic data so they can be processed for any digital evidence that
15:29might be helpful later that day the news came out that a woman is murdered an ellington woman was killed
15:39in her home after being shot in the head and stomach the victim has been identified as 39 year old
15:44connie debate
15:47i got a phone call from a neighbor she just kept screaming out connie's dad and in that moment
15:56life just stood still it was a moment in time that i never ever in my life want to repeat
16:02again
16:15i'll never forget my dad called in the evening and he said that connie is gone and i said what
16:20do you
16:21what do you mean he said that somebody broke into the house and murdered my sister it was just so
16:26unbelievable she was only 39 years old at the peak of her life with her young kids and her family
16:33and
16:33her career so much to live for it was awful
16:41by this time detectives found the contractor ken sweeney at a job site ken sweeney he admitted there
16:47was some bad blood between him and the debates but he didn't feel like he had that much animosity or
16:53hatred towards them it was just a basic misunderstanding about what was supposed to be done at the house
17:01detectives said ken sweeney was very cooperative he had a rock solid alibi of being at this job site
17:08during the time of the murder that was corroborated by his workers and he was more than happy to give
17:15us
17:15dna samples at that point we had a decent feeling that ken sweeney's not the intruder so then who is
17:25in processing the scene there were some things that did make sense for example
17:29there was a small window in the basement gently laying on the floor with no damage
17:36rick debate mentioned that basement window might have been a point of entry
17:41the glass isn't broken so we went to the window next to it and had someone push it from the
17:46outside
17:47and when it hit the floor it shattered into a million pieces and there was no evidence of
17:51anyone being outside that window there was cobwebs in the frame that weren't disturbed by anyone coming
17:56through it it was odd also the detectives at the hospital they were relaying to us that rick had very
18:03superficial injury why would a reported armed intruder murder his wife in front of him and then not injure
18:11him seriously and leave that witness behind finally found something within feet of the house outside that
18:16made no sense it was just very suspicious
18:35what stood out to me as odd is that an armed intruder broke into this house murdered someone
18:39and then didn't seriously injure the rick debate and then later on i learned from talking to the
18:46troopers that when first responders arrived on scene they found rick debate's wallet in the
18:51lawn with all its contents within feet in the staircase from that bulkhead where the intruder
18:56reportedly fled from the state police canine was brought in to assist the dogs kind of know we need
19:03to find a track of an assailant and they give off certain smells endorphins that the dogs are keyed in
19:11on
19:12the dog tracked from the bulkhead to the area rick debate's wallet was and went to where rick debate
19:19was still being treated inside the house by ems the dog handler then had the dog start a new track
19:25the
19:26dog again left the bulkhead area went to the wallet and then led towards the ambulance and the ambulance
19:32at that point uh was where rick debate was located that was a big red flag to us what's going
19:38on here
19:44after learning all of this stuff from the scene at the hospital we asked rick debate what are we going
19:51to find during our investigation that's going to put you in a bad light then rick drops a huge bomb
19:58and tells us that she's having a baby with a woman named sarah ganser
20:06that was an important detail to leave out we have a problem connie was well aware what's going on she
20:14wanted to have another baby due to her back issues and her health issues that couldn't happen rick said
20:20that it was connie's idea to have rick make a baby the old-fashioned way with sarah an ex-high
20:27school girlfriend my wife kind of brought it up to me because she knew about sarah did it bother her
20:33that i impregnated another woman it was very untraditional she um was amazing i never expected
20:40things to go that way it didn't ring well with me we continued to question him and his eventual story
20:51to us was that he was having an affair that started in the spring of 2015 and the pregnancy was
20:58an
20:59accident but he still said that connie knew about it she was mad a little bit but really i wanted
21:06to
21:06keep our family together and she really wanted to somehow have contact with another kid rick said that
21:13they were going to co-parent the baby with sarah it raises my eyebrows it didn't sit right with me
21:18at all
21:20and then the more we talked to rick the more he changed his story the time that he left the
21:26house
21:26would change the time he got back would change how he saw his wife get killed
21:33whether or not he was in front of the intruder or in back of the intruder the glaring one for
21:41us at
21:41this point is rick was telling us that he got home at nine o'clock and this all occurred within
21:47a half
21:47an hour from him getting home so that'll bring us to 9 30 the 911 call didn't come in until
21:5310 16.
21:55so we realized there's about 45 minutes missing from rick debate's story but he couldn't fill that
22:01in and his quote was i'm sticking to my story and i need to get a lawyer if somebody wants
22:07to get a
22:07lawyer to speak to then that is the end of our interview at the hospital we sat with him for
22:15maybe
22:15a little more than seven hours and there was not one tear and that just didn't seem right
22:24we started looking at him as a victim as a witness but by the time we're done with the
22:29interview my focus had shifted him more into a person of interest
22:38our next stop was to go interview sarah ganzer rick's girlfriend who's pregnant one of the things
22:44we're trying to find out during sarah's interview is whether or not she had any involvement to what
22:49happened to connie in the house in the back of my mind i'm also thinking what if sarah did it
22:55maybe
22:55rick's covering up for sarah when we get to sarah's house we tell her that that connie had been
23:05killed in the house and that rick was in the hospital she seemed very empathetic sarah ganzer
23:10was somebody rick had grown up with she told us that she and rick started a relationship in the
23:18spring of 2015 and she got pregnant and was going to have a baby in february of 2016. her side
23:28of the
23:28story was that rick said you make me happy i want to spend the rest of my life with you
23:33and that rick
23:34promised her he was going to get a divorce from connie finally she says that connie did not know about
23:42the baby i told her straight out rick told us that it was connie's idea to have another baby but
23:50couldn't so you guys were all going to co-parent the baby i don't think she believed us at first
23:57but i told her more details and sarah broke down she had no idea her boyfriend rick was a liar
24:06she was crying like more emotion than rick showed us during the entire seven hour interview it's not
24:12always 100 percent but my general feeling after talking to sarah was and i don't think she had
24:17any part in connie's murder at this point we know rick is lying to us and we started thinking that
24:26there was a plan here to get connie out of the picture well rick if you killed connie i'll make
24:35you
24:35pay for it
24:51after the interview with rick and after talking to sarah we know that rick is comfortable lying to us
24:56and he's the main person of interest but at this point there was no evidence to prove that rick
25:03murdered his wife so our next stop was to go to the medical examiner's office i was one of the
25:10detectives at the autopsy and we're hoping that we can find something to solve connie's murder
25:15the doctors tell us that the bullet in the back of the head was instant death i tend to think
25:21the one
25:21the joist was the first one we think she's facing the murderer that person raises the gun she hits it
25:29that's what causes the shot into the joist she turns around there's nowhere to go and then the headshot
25:36was the second one that dropped her down the third shot was when she was laying just based on the
25:42angle
25:42of where the bullet hit in her stomach both bullets were found inside connie there were no exit wounds
25:50and there's no lot of evidence hairs fibers on her person
25:56next we sent the gun to forensics but there's nothing on the gun to prove who had done this
26:04when we talked to rick he had mentioned that connie knew about both the guns in the house
26:10during some of the interviews we had spoken to family and friends of connie and we asked them
26:15about whether or not she liked guns but nobody that we had spoken to gave us the indication that
26:21connie would keep the only loaded gun in the house in the basement adjacent to the room where
26:25the kids are always playing that's suspicious it seemed more likely that connie never even knew that
26:33they owned a second gun
26:38in an investigation like this if you don't have an open mind you could be wrong and you'll miss
26:43something very important but no matter what we did we couldn't find any leads to corroborate rick's
26:49story that an intruder had entered his home nothing appeared to be ransacked then there was that
26:56basement window possible point of entry that was gently laying on the floor with no damage and the
27:02superficial injuries that rick allegedly sustained from this six foot four intruder that had just
27:08murdered his wife we also got the dog twice tracking the assailant and going directly to rick
27:17just didn't make any sense so at this point everything's pointing back to rick as being the only suspect
27:32so based on rick's first initial story to us connie was shot at 9 30 but the 911 call didn't
27:40come in
27:40until 10 16. so it became very clear that the electronic evidence was going to be the dominating
27:47feature of this investigation because everything is time stamped so it was going to start painting the
27:54bigger picture of what happened at connie and rick's home that morning i do a search warrant for
28:00video surveillance at the ymca to clarify the timeline and as far as connie's fitbit i didn't
28:07know too much about them but if it has any records i'm going to get those records with all of
28:13the
28:13technology and so many search warrants this is going to take a lot of time to prepare and then to
28:19go through
28:29the wake for connie had been maybe a week after her her murder there was lines out the door you
28:37could
28:37see what an impact connie had in this world she had tons of friends there and uh we had gotten
28:45up to
28:46give our condolences to the family and i you know shook rick's hand and i said i'm really sorry
28:53and he kind of glanced over me that seemed very odd at some point that day rick came out with
29:03something saying that this isn't as bad as it was for a grandpa or so you know like like it's
29:08not as
29:08painful or it's easier like it wasn't a big deal we were all looking at each other like how could
29:15he
29:15be saying this he's just so unfeeling and transactional not a grieving husband
29:25soon after connie's wake i heard from people who know rick from high school
29:33that his high school sweetheart was his girlfriend and that she was pregnant it was definitely a gut
29:40punch to hear connie would have been devastated this is not something that she would have been okay with
29:45that moment when i found out about this started the doubting i thought that rick was indeed the
29:52person who killed connie
30:04when detectives processed the debate house they found copies of life insurance policies one for rick one for
30:11connie that day i made sure to call the company to let them know where the state police were
30:17investigating the suspicious death of connie and not to release any money to anyone who's uh trying to
30:23cash in on anything three weeks later i was contacted by them to let me know that rick had tried
30:30to cash in
30:31on the life insurance policy he had on on connie for 475 thousand dollars
30:42when i heard from detective payotte that right before connie's murder rick had dropped back his
30:48insurance and increased hers
30:55that's when the pieces of the puzzle were starting to come together that rick did do this
31:02he made a plan to have a you know a new family to replace my sister i was just in
31:07shock you know
31:08very hard to process and just so unbelievable
31:17rick had a motive and opportunity now we just need the electronic evidence to corroborate that rick
31:24did this but we're still waiting for the search warrants to come to the office
31:29law enforcement became very tight-lipped about the investigation and it really put people in that
31:36community on edge why hasn't an arrest been made people wanted answers being pretty positive that
31:45rick had had murdered my sister you know i was worried about the kids who remained in the care of
31:51rick
31:52so that was scary i kind of just ignored rick even though he was still living in the neighborhood
31:58it really upset me because i think he felt like i'm gonna get away with this
32:05in the following months we started receiving evidence back from the subpoenas of a search
32:10warrant sent out for digital evidence we were able to start seeing how calculated this cold-blooded
32:16husband truly was
32:30as the search warrants start coming in it'll lead you down different trails to do more search warrants
32:35to get more information that was extremely time consuming just sarah's facebook records were over 36 000
32:43pages but we were able to at least go back to may of 2015 when rick and sarah first knew
32:51about the baby
32:54through sarah's facebook comments to her friends we see her kind of explaining that once connie
33:00finds out about the baby she's gonna eviscerate rick in court and he's gonna lose everything again that
33:07shows motive and he's still telling sarah that he's gonna get a divorce but at this point we speculate
33:16he's not planning a divorce there was a plan in rick's head to have something done before the baby was
33:25born and it came down to rick figuring out that the only way he's going to get himself out of
33:32this
33:32is to kill connie so rick used those two vandalism incidents that he actually committed himself to
33:41try to convince connie that it would be a good idea to have a gun in the house and he
33:47ends up buying the
33:48guns in october the next electronic evidence that came in were connie's fitbit records the fitbit is
33:58hooked up to your phone so it actually has a concrete time stamp we didn't get heart rate with
34:04this one it was a kind of a basic model but we can see distance we can see steps
34:12on december 23rd we could see when connie woke up and started walking around when she left to go
34:19to the ymca you can see that her fitbit went stationary meaning she's in the car she's not
34:24registering any steps we had gotten video surveillance at the ymca and as soon as
34:29connie gets out of the car we can see her walking into the ymca through her fitbit but also through
34:34the video we see her driving from the ymca back to the house from the fitbit we can see when
34:42she
34:42started walking into the house and that's when the front door opens the final thing the fitbit showed us
34:50was when connie stopped moving which was 10 0 5 a.m so we were able to speculate that that
34:57was
34:58probably the time of death about half hour after what rick had told us we also found out from rick's
35:06internet usage that the information about driving to work and sending an email to his boss from the
35:12roadway about being late that was sent from the house based on the computer records the ip address
35:18rick had planned on establishing that he wasn't home and he came back and found an intruder but
35:22what investigators believe happened is that rick never left the house that morning
35:29and then we also found out that after learning that sarah was pregnant with his child in may
35:34rick was looking up information in june july on how to poison somebody through dozens of internet searches
35:44but for some reason he ends up buying the guns in october and it's almost like a progression of how
35:52rick
35:53thinks he's going to get himself out of the situation
35:58in this case obviously we found the pregnancy with the girlfriend insurance money avoiding the whole
36:04divorce it just didn't happen out of the blue the scheme took months in may of 2015 rick finds out
36:21that his girlfriend is pregnant with his child then in july of 2015 rick conducted searches on how to
36:29poison connie but in october he changed his plan and decided he would instead shoot connie to death
36:38first to scare connie into allowing a gun in the house he vandalizes his own cars
36:45debate then buys one gun connie knows about which is supposedly for protection
36:51and then a second gun that she doesn't know about he hides the second gun in the basement so connie
36:56won't accidentally find it and then rick increased connie's life insurance to 475 000
37:08then on december 23rd debate pretends to leave for work but instead he stays behind laying in wait
37:15for connie to return rick removes the window that was in the basement trying to stage it to look like
37:22somebody else did it to get into the house then once connie returns he lures her to the basement and
37:30shoots her to death
37:38finally he stages an attack pretending to be a victim and injuring himself
37:46and then he calls 9-1-1
37:53by april 2017 we finally had enough digital evidence to support probable cause for an arrest
37:59of rick debate he was charged with one count of murder one count of tampering or fabricating
38:05physical evidence and one count of falsely reporting an incident
38:16detective payout had called me and he asked me if i knew where connie's boys were and i said yes
38:23they're down for an easter egg hunt with me and he said good i need to know that they're not
38:29with rick
38:29he said that he had gotten an arrest warrant for rick for the murder of my sister it felt like
38:37such
38:37a relief because you thought hey this is this is never going to happen we finally felt like we got
38:45some momentum and then the rugs pulled out from under us it was pulled out from under us
38:59when rick debate was arrested there was a sense of relief from the community
39:06i downloaded the arrest warrant and i read it from cover to cover finding out that rick was planning
39:13this for months was shocking because all along he was playing the perfect husband the perfect father
39:23the perfect son-in-law you didn't think about anyone but yourself in that moment
39:29he duped all of us but then the community was shocked because following rick's arrest he was
39:38released on bond so he was out until trial could commence he put up his home as collateral in order
39:47for him to post this one million dollar bond i found it very bizarre that you have this man who's
39:54charged with murder just out and about rick went to jail for about three days and then he was out
40:04free
40:05he was celebrating christmas with his family
40:09you're having parties at your house you're out and about in the town you're you're at bars
40:15meanwhile i don't have my sister anymore and i'm like sick to my stomach almost it was horrendous
40:28the trial finally gets started on april 5th 2022
40:34it's a highly anticipated trial so people are on the edge of their seats
40:39usually in a murder case you hear about dna but in the rick debate case the fitbit was the star
40:48of the
40:48show connie debates every step was logged the morning of the murder it was labeled the fitbit murder
40:57because connie's fitbit completely contradicted rick's story she was alive an hour after rick
41:05said there was an intruder inside anything you'd like to say to your wife's family no comment folks thank
41:10you after weeks of the trial on may 10th 2022 the verdict is in and rick debate is found guilty
41:22of all charges
41:25rick debate was sentenced to 65 years in prison with no chance of parole that's where he belongs
41:37he doesn't bring my sister back but finally you know done you know he's he's gonna get what he deserves
41:47when the jury came back unanimous i was elated
41:54when i look at rick debate i think monster evil but i also think pathetic coming up with a plan
42:01like
42:01this to end someone's life and destroy all these different people his own kids he hurt everyone
42:16if connie was in front of me here i would tell her how much i love her i wish i
42:21spent more time with
42:22her life gets in the way and you get distracted but time is what's important
42:31a friend and i walk at the cemetery it's kind of like connie walks kind of with us
42:37you know we go by her grave and we kind of just keep an eye on our girl and make
42:43sure that she
42:43knows that we're still thinking of her and that the boys are fine they're amazing i miss you connie
