00:19I arrived and all I could see was a male with his back to us and a female facing us.
00:24There was blood spatter, there's bullets, it's absolute chaos.
00:27I didn't know who the victims were and who the suspects were.
00:32They found a backpack, strategically placed to go grab.
00:36You could definitely call it a murder kit, a hostage kit.
00:40We opened the door to the shed and we can see a human foot.
00:45Our hearts dropped.
00:48When it comes to people getting divorced or child custody issues, people lose their mind.
00:54She actually called his work and said he issued threats and they wouldn't let him in the building.
01:02There was one note that I recall that said crime equals desire, ability and opportunity.
01:07The callousness behind this plan was something that I've never seen in my now 30 year career.
01:33The city of Dublin sits about 20 miles from the city of Oakland.
01:39There's a growing community that has incorporated a lot of Silicon Valley types of folks.
01:44We didn't have a whole lot of murders that take place.
01:48I'm guessing we probably had maybe one every other year at the time.
01:52The city of Dublin
01:56County, where's the thing?
01:57I've got a problem with a neighbor over here and screaming from next door.
02:00Okay, what are they screaming?
02:01What are you doing?
02:03What are you doing?
02:03What are you doing?
02:04What are you doing?
02:04It sounded like a shot.
02:05I didn't know if it was a gunshot or what, but it sounded like there's somebody in the house.
02:09I had a scourge by 1489.
02:11About 5.50 p.m., a call for service came out through dispatch.
02:16Gunshots were fired at a residence on the west end of town.
02:20I arrive and I see my partner, who happened to get there before I did.
02:24And he was out front talking with some of the neighbors.
02:28What we learned was that Sally, who lived at the residence, had a boyfriend, Lester.
02:34She's 91 years old.
02:35Les is also in his 90s, and he calls her every day at 4 o'clock.
02:42And Lester had repeatedly tried to get a hold of Sally that day, and she wasn't answering.
02:49And he became concerned.
02:51So he asked his son, Jeff, to respond to the house.
02:55When the son got to the residence, the son heard what he thought was a gunshot.
03:01And at that point, the son went to the neighbor's house, and we received the 911 call.
03:06So my partner and I entered.
03:09I could hear a huge commotion.
03:13Yelling, screaming.
03:14You can kind of hear thumping.
03:16We can tell it was upstairs.
03:18We get to the top of the stairs.
03:20All I could see was a male facing away from us, laying in the hallway with his back to us,
03:24and a female standing in the hallway facing us.
03:27The female's covered in blood.
03:30There's an expandable baton on the ground that's bent.
03:33Looks like it's been used to hit either the female or the male.
03:38We don't know.
03:39There was blood spattered.
03:41There's a stun gun.
03:42There's bullets on the floor.
03:47Absolute chaos.
03:49We started giving commands as we normally would, you know, show us your hands.
03:54After telling everyone to stop, the male made a kind of this abrupt move.
04:00And although we didn't know who the suspect was, the male tends to be the aggressor in domestic violence.
04:07And given the fact that he's maybe trying to flee, trying to get out of there, my partner deployed his
04:13taser to subdue him.
04:15And I can hear the male yelling out about his child, asking, where is my daughter, type of verbiage.
04:24And the female who's standing in front of me points towards the bathroom.
04:29It's kind of eerie because there is a full length mirror on that bathroom door.
04:36In the reflection, what I saw was another woman dressed in all black who appeared to be hiding in the
04:43bedroom.
04:44Now I've got an additional person.
04:47And at that point, I had the rest of that hallway to search.
04:53I still had a child to locate maybe more victims, maybe more suspects.
04:59I ordered her out of the bedroom.
05:01That same moment, I can hear other officers coming in and coming up the stairs to assist.
05:07The male was handcuffed and escorted out of the house.
05:11They escort him to a patrol car and they do a pat search of him.
05:15He didn't have any weapons.
05:18The women are escorted out of the house as well.
05:23One female, she appears calm.
05:26The other woman, she's got some visible injuries to her.
05:31The male who has injuries, he's got redness all over his face, his head.
05:37He's swollen or starting to swell.
05:39He's been in a fight of some sort.
05:44My partner and I continued the search of the upstairs.
05:48And in the bathroom, we located the daughter, a two-year-old girl.
05:53She was handed over to one of the other responding officers who escorted her, took her outside, away from the
05:59residence.
06:01We didn't find anyone else in the house.
06:05We're trying to sort out who everybody is on scene.
06:07So, in talking to the two females on the curb line, we learned that one of them was Rosa Hill.
06:15The other female we identified as May Lee, Rosa's mom.
06:21We found out that Rosa was married to Eric Hill, who was the individual handcuffed in the police car.
06:28They were estranged at that point, but they were married.
06:31And we found out that they did have, at the time, a two-year-old child in common.
06:35Eric lives here with his daughter.
06:38The two-year-old ultimately went into their care of Child Protective Services for that night.
06:45It appeared to me that we potentially have one or two female victims of domestic violence.
06:54And this male suspect who has gotten into some sort of physical altercation with his wife.
07:01But we got to figure out what the facts are.
07:05And in talking to Eric while he's in the back of the patrol vehicle, he is frantic.
07:11He was concerned about his grandmother, Sally, and where she was.
07:16She's 91 years old.
07:18This was Sally's house.
07:20And she wasn't in the house.
07:22You can hear him talk about how she doesn't go anywhere.
07:25She doesn't drive.
07:27She's pretty much homebound.
07:29So, she has to be somewhere in the residence.
07:33So, our group of folks searched through the residence again, tried to find Sally.
07:38But we didn't find her.
07:40Very quickly, we looked in the backyard.
07:42But once again, we did not see her.
07:45And we're starting to get concerned about where she might be.
07:49At that point, we basically seal the house off and make sure that there is no entry into that location.
07:56When walking through the hallway upstairs, there was blood strewn throughout the walls.
08:02There was a stun gun out there.
08:04There was bullets on the ground.
08:06It looked like two different calibers of bullets that were on the ground.
08:09Why is there all these weapons?
08:11This isn't just a domestic, regular domestic violence incident that occurred.
08:16There's something else that went down.
08:18And now, add in the fact that Sally is missing.
08:22The hair on the back of my neck is starting to stand up.
08:26When the officers conducted a search in the backyard, they found a backpack.
08:32And this backpack looked almost as if it was strategically placed underneath a wheelbarrow as to hide it.
08:39Or to set it up to go grab when needed.
08:44In that backpack were a set of handcuffs, a three-blade throwing star, a pocket saw, goggles, duct tape, rope,
08:53arrows for a crossbow gun.
08:57Why are these things here and how do they fit into the puzzle of this investigation?
09:01How were they either used in this crime already or how were they potentially staged at this location to be
09:09used at a later time?
09:13We asked Eric if the backpack belonged to him.
09:16We asked Rosa and May about the backpack and nobody involved in this is going to claim that that backpack
09:22belongs to them.
09:24And at that point in time, they do a patch search of Rosa and May.
09:29And when they encounter Rosa, she happens to have a firearm in her pant pocket.
09:36Rosa said during the altercation that Eric produced a gun and threatened her.
09:40I said during the struggle that Eric dropped the gun and that she had picked it up.
09:46She said that she came to see her two-year-old baby and to talk about custody issues with Eric.
09:55When Rosa got there, the front door was left ajar.
10:01She goes in the house, saw that nobody was home and waits for Eric.
10:09Her mother met her there because she was afraid of Eric.
10:13He had rage and she said that Eric attacks her and her mother.
10:17And she was able to acquire the firearm because he pointed at her.
10:22Also, Rosa and May never encountered Sally while in the house.
10:29But Eric was blaming both May and Rosa that they had come and they were attacking him.
10:34We know that Eric has injuries. We know that May has injuries.
10:40Rosa really didn't have any injuries at all.
10:42But all three individuals were taken and assessed medically.
10:47And then we're going to be on route to the station.
10:52We really started wondering what was going on here and we knew we needed to keep digging deeper.
10:59We're getting two different stories and trying to navigate who our real suspect is.
11:05But at the same time, finding Sally is extremely important.
11:08And we need to determine if she is related to the assault investigation that's going on at this house.
11:14This case was crazy, like nothing that I'd ever seen in my law enforcement career.
11:21We want to know if there is previous violence involved with Eric and Rosa.
11:26We all went to a lawyer to see about getting some visitation rights.
11:32I tell mom, no matter what, no matter what, don't open the door.
11:37There was a Google search of how to murder.
11:41This was not a spur of the moment crime.
11:43This was really planned out.
12:02At this point in the investigation, multiple things are happening.
12:05There are several people doing several different things.
12:07We're searching that residence to try to find Sally.
12:11The property is rather large.
12:13I think it's about a half an acre.
12:15And I assigned officers to do a canvas of the area as well.
12:20At the same time, Rosa Hill, May Lee, and Eric Hill are being taken to the hospital to be treated
12:27for the injuries.
12:28While Rosa, May, and Eric were assessed medically, we want to know if there is previous violence involved with Eric
12:35and Rosa.
12:36And if there's anything that recently occurred that might have triggered this type of response.
12:42Eric's father, Greg, who was the son of Sally, lived out of state at that time.
12:48We called and we had a conversation with Greg Hill.
12:52And in talking to him, we found out that he already knew what was going on.
12:58I live out of state.
12:59And earlier that day, I got a call from Les, mom's boyfriend of many years.
13:05And he was just frantic.
13:08They always spoke on the phone on the days that they weren't together.
13:12That day, he was calling her and calling her and he couldn't get her.
13:16And he called me to say, you better come out here.
13:18Something's happened to Sally.
13:21He wasn't sure what.
13:22They couldn't find her.
13:25So, I had to fly to California.
13:29And Les had called his son to go over and check on my mom.
13:33And they had come to the house and they couldn't tell what was happening.
13:37And so, they called the police.
13:41And then, Les had called and said that Eric had been handcuffed and put in a patrol car.
13:48And I'm like, what?
13:53They couldn't tell by the way things were going down whether Eric was the aggressor or what was happening.
14:01I was shocked, but not really.
14:05I mean, by that time, trouble was well at foot.
14:13In 2002, Eric was working for the Alameda County Social Services.
14:18That's where he met May.
14:21And May introduced him ultimately to Rosa, who was her daughter.
14:25Rosa had worked in Silicon Valley as an information technician.
14:32When Eric first mentioned meeting Rosa, he talked about how much fun they had, how smart Rosa was.
14:40They seemed to like some of the same things.
14:43Eric was very, very happy when he met Rosa.
14:48We learned that Eric Hill and Rosa Hill had been married since 2005.
14:56Eric did tell me that as soon as the wedding was over, everything changed.
15:02It was no longer the sweet woman that he'd fallen in love with.
15:08But Eric was extremely happy one year later when he found out that they were going to have a baby.
15:15He just couldn't wait.
15:17But when the baby was born, that's when trouble really became evident.
15:24Rosa was no longer working.
15:25So he took on a second job working nights at Walgreens.
15:30But it never seemed to be enough.
15:33Rosa was never happy.
15:37And then very soon after the baby was born, Rosa kicked Eric out.
15:44And he went out to Dublin and told my mother, who was his grandmother.
15:51And that was the beginning of his living with her.
15:57So at that point, Rosa wouldn't let him see the baby.
16:02And we all went to a lawyer with Eric to see about getting some visitation rights anyway.
16:11During the custody hearings, there were many things that each of them had to do.
16:16And part of it was to see a family mediator.
16:19And I know she didn't follow through with that.
16:23Rosa was told to get a job.
16:25She didn't get a job.
16:27She didn't do any of the things the judge told her.
16:29Over time, Eric was given more and more time with Elizabeth.
16:34That's when it got ugly.
16:37Rosa started making up stories around Eric molesting the baby.
16:46It was quite an ordeal for Eric to go through this.
16:49But he was cleared of all those allegations.
16:53And then Rosa called his work and said he issued threats and they wouldn't let him in the building.
17:01They did have to put him on suspension.
17:04But then after they investigated everything, he got his job back.
17:09At that point, Eric was given 85% physical custody and 100% legal custody.
17:18I was concerned for both Eric and my mother because Rosa was intent on making Eric's life hell.
17:25And I tell mom, no matter what, no matter what, don't open the door to Rosa.
17:32There's something wrong.
17:34Rosa and Eric are estranged.
17:37They have separated and Eric has received primary custody of their two year old.
17:43Why are these two females inside this house?
17:47We know that Sally Hill lives in this house.
17:50We know that there was an altercation upstairs.
17:54But we don't know where Sally is and we don't know what happened to her.
17:58We continued to look for Sally.
18:01And kind of the last place that we hadn't searched yet was a shed that was on the side yard
18:07of the house.
18:09And it had a padlock.
18:11So it wasn't easily accessible.
18:13We went and got a bolt cutter.
18:16And as we cut the padlock and opened it, our worst nightmares occurred.
18:31We continued to look for Sally, Eric's grandmother.
18:35She's 91 years old, lives in this house, and we can't find her.
18:39We opened the door to the shed in the backyard and we see a garbage can.
18:48And we can see a human foot.
18:51And we all know that's Sally in the garbage can.
18:57And our hearts dropped.
19:00She was found with a plastic bag over her head, wrapped in sheets, wrapped in rope.
19:06There had been no respect for her whatsoever.
19:14The coroner's office was summoned and they came out and removed her body.
19:19And we now know that we have a homicide investigation.
19:25After finding Sally, we know that there's no reason for Eric to harm his grandmother.
19:32So at this point, he was considered to be a victim in this incident.
19:38And Rosa and May had no reason to go in that house without anybody's permission.
19:43We believe they are involved with Sally's murder.
19:48But we're still trying to figure things out.
19:55And at the same time, when one of the officers was doing a canvas of the neighborhood,
19:59he located a vehicle that was occupied by an Asian male.
20:04He was about a block away from the crime scene.
20:07He had moved his seat back and was slouched down in the vehicle almost like he didn't want to be
20:14seen.
20:14He was identified as Ping Lee, the husband of May Lee and the father of Rosa.
20:20He tells us that his wife, May, had asked him to take her to the residence in Dublin.
20:26Had asked him to drop her off about a block away.
20:30He knew that Sally lived there.
20:33He knew that his son-in-law was living there.
20:36And he also knew that May was going there to help out Rosa in some way.
20:42He denied knowing anything else.
20:44But we found it very strange that he would drop her off a block away, not in front of the
20:49house.
20:50And from where we find him, we know that he was able to see everything that happened.
20:54And still at no time does he exit his vehicle or come and contact the police to see what's going
21:00on.
21:00He has now potentially brought the suspect to this crime.
21:05And he's taken back to the station for interviewing.
21:13Detectives returned to the station to start conducting interviews of everybody involved.
21:19They had just gotten out of the hospital.
21:22Rosa really didn't have any injuries at all.
21:25And May suffered a small laceration on her head, requiring a couple stitches or more.
21:32Eric had laceration to his head, multiple taser probes.
21:37Eric had taser marks on the front of his body.
21:40Yes, Eric had been tased by our deputies.
21:43However, he was tased in the back.
21:45So it was definitely evident that he had also been tased by either Rosa or May.
21:53He had an injury to his throat that was definitely some pressure that had been applied.
21:59You could see that there was redness and some swelling there as well.
22:02He basically was beaten all over the place.
22:06But going into Eric's interview, what I'm trying to find out is, step by step,
22:12how did this evolve to what it became?
22:16I really didn't think Rosa and May would do something like that.
22:21I thought things were finally getting normal until the very moment of the attack.
22:27I told the police when I first met Rosa.
22:30She was kind of shy.
22:32But once we started talking, I got to really see how smart she was.
22:37I got to become fascinated by her.
22:39But after we got married, Rosa started picking fights over everything.
22:45At a certain point, Rosa basically told me never to come back.
22:51And for about a year, she did not let me see my daughter.
22:55That was devastating.
22:57And that's why I had to start court proceedings.
23:02And I sued for 50-50 custody.
23:08Once I was granted some custody of my daughter, Rosa started getting really mean and vindictive.
23:14And when she made these accusations that I was abusing and molesting my daughter, I was dumbstruck.
23:24She did that, not because they were true, but because they would hurt me.
23:28And it worked.
23:31But by January of 2009, I had 85% fiscal custody and 100% legal custody.
23:40We kind of developed a routine with the custody, doing our handoffs and trades.
23:47And May was always the one that did the talking.
23:50Rosa just stood in the background.
23:52I thought they came to accept what was going on.
23:57And then the police let me know that they had found that my grandmother was dead.
24:08I broke down and cried.
24:11I definitely feel lucky to be alive.
24:24In talking to Eric, he was very emotional.
24:27And he had just gotten out of the hospital.
24:29He just got beat.
24:32And he was very much upset about his grandmother.
24:37She was always big on family.
24:41And she loved being a grandmother.
24:43I never dreamed that Rosa and May would do something like that.
24:51You could see his physical reaction recalling the events.
25:01In the morning, like any other day, I went to work.
25:06I got off at 5.
25:08And I went down to the daycare center and picked up my daughter and drove straight home the way I
25:14normally did.
25:15But when I got there, Les' son Jeff and his wife Uda were up by the front door.
25:26Les was the guy my grandmother was dating.
25:29And he had called multiple times and she never answered the phone.
25:34He was really worried about my grandmother's welfare.
25:37Les, also in his 90s, sent his son Jeff to go and check on her.
25:47They stayed by the front door.
25:49I went upstairs and I was carrying my daughter with me.
25:53By the time I got to my grandmother's room, I didn't see her.
25:59I heard a noise behind me.
26:04And I turned around and I saw May in the hallway.
26:09And I was like, why are you here?
26:13And she said that my grandmother had called her because she needed help.
26:18Which made no sense because my grandmother would have called a bunch of other people first.
26:23May said that my grandmother was down in the garage.
26:26I asked May to watch my daughter.
26:31I put her down.
26:32But as I was running out of the room, Rosa stepped out and hit me with a stun gun.
26:41Apparently it made a loud noise because it scared Jeff and Uda and they ran out and went over to
26:46the neighbor's house to call the police.
26:49May started hitting me with a baton.
26:53May started hitting me with a baton and Rosa was kicking me.
26:58When I started seeing blood dripping down my face, that's when I realized this is definitely a live or die
27:07moment.
27:07I started fighting back, but then they knocked me over onto my back.
27:15May was choking me with a baton and at this moment Rosa came out of the room with the gun
27:22and pointed it at my chest and told me to stop fighting.
27:33At this point, I gave up.
27:46And, you know, they said, will you give up custody?
27:48And I said, yes.
27:51About this time is when I heard a siren outside.
27:58They would have killed me definitely if the cops hadn't shown up.
28:04In talking to Eric, everything was consistent, but it was very sad to have an individual recall these events.
28:13Of course, Eric was no longer being considered a suspect.
28:16So after his interview, we allowed him to leave.
28:21My phone rings and it's Eric telling me they had found Sally's body.
28:28I could hardly take it in that this could actually happen.
28:32It was just a nightmare, a traumatic nightmare.
28:37And I had to take him over to the Division of Family Services so he could get the baby.
28:43It was a huge relief to finally see her again and be able to pick her up and hold her.
28:54At this point, Rosa and May are our prime suspects in this crime.
29:00Now what we want to know is why did they do this?
29:03Why did they have to kill Sally?
29:05Did she just get in the way?
29:07Was it on purpose?
29:08We need to continue to dig and find more evidence to tell what was really going on.
29:13At this point in the investigation, multiple things are happening.
29:16Detectives are interviewing Rosa, May, and Ping.
29:21Investigators are at the house conducting further analysis of the scene.
29:27And while doing another canvas of the area around Sally's residence, looking for anything or any evidence that may help
29:35in our case,
29:36we found an Acura Integra a block and a half away from our crime scene.
29:41A registration check of that vehicle came back to May Lee.
29:46And the keys to that Acura were found in Rosa's possession.
29:52That was definitely a vehicle of interest that we wanted to search further.
29:58Inside the Acura Integra, we found a hacksaw.
30:01We found a samurai sword.
30:03We found a crossbow.
30:05We found handcuffs.
30:07We found .22 caliber bullets.
30:09Finding all these just crazy pieces of evidence in vehicles and backpacks at the scene.
30:15This was not a spur of the moment crime.
30:18This was really planned out.
30:21Also, the coroner's office did an autopsy of Sally.
30:25Her cause of death was found to be strangulation.
30:28She was also found to have lacerations to the head and to the hand,
30:32consistent with being struck with a metal object.
30:36We believed metal police baton, as well as puncture wounds, which were able to associate to a taser.
30:46When we interview May, she immediately invokes her right to an attorney, so we don't question her any further.
30:53Ping just basically says that he had driven May to the scene and was waiting for May to resurface.
31:02Rosa still claimed that she was there with her mother, May, to confront him about child custody, have a conversation.
31:11Eric attacks her and her mother, and she is just merely trying to defend herself.
31:16But we share with Rosa that we're taking her into custody, that we're going to be taking her clothing,
31:22we're going to be taking her DNA, and no emotional response.
31:27May was also arrested for murder, and Ping Lee is arrested for accessory to murder.
31:35Based on the evidence that we have found throughout our investigation, this wasn't just a crime that just popped up
31:42and happened.
31:43This crime was planned out, but now we need to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to prove
31:51this case and tell the story of why it happened.
31:55We identify that Rosa lived at a residence in Fremont, and that May and Ping lived at a residence in
32:03Antioch.
32:03So we authored search warrants for all of the residents that they were associated with.
32:11But nothing significant is located at either location.
32:16The residence in Antioch, it was weird because it didn't look like anybody had lived in there, so we were
32:21a little puzzled by that.
32:23So I'm like, I'm going to check one of our databases to see if they have any previous residences that
32:27they might be staying at still.
32:29So I learned that there was a Brentwood address that we had no prior knowledge of.
32:35And I reached out to the U.S. Postal Inspector, and all three of them, Rosa, May, and Ping, were
32:41receiving mail at the Brentwood location.
32:44Get a search warrant for the Brentwood house, and that's where we just discover just a plethora of evidence.
32:53It was like a gold mine.
33:09We served the search warrant at the Brentwood residence, and as soon as we breached that door, it was a
33:16gold mine full of evidence.
33:19We found the boxes from the tasers.
33:23There were receipts to items that were found at the crime scene.
33:27There was a computer, and the computer was collected and taken to a forensic lab to see what kind of
33:35searches were done.
33:36We found writings that were directly linked to Eric and to Sally.
33:42Some were up in the master bedroom, some were down in common areas like the kitchen.
33:48There was a list of troublemakers where Sally's name was listed, along with Eric's.
33:56There was one note, a revenge for Rosa, which to me meant that revenge was going to be against Eric,
34:05the one that was taking custody away from Rosa.
34:10Another note that we found said crime equals desire, ability, and opportunity.
34:16We found notes where they were stalking Eric, what time he got home, what time he left, when he went
34:24somewhere.
34:25So they knew that they would encounter Sally, so they had to have a plan on how that was going
34:32to occur before they took out Eric.
34:37So after we conclude collecting all the evidence at the Brentwood address, we wanted more evidence to help bolster our
34:45case.
34:45We want to know where these weapons were obtained, who made those purchases, and when they were purchased.
34:53Tasers, they have serial numbers, so in contacting Taser about the one that was left at the crime scene,
35:00they informed us where the tasers were purchased, and we did some follow-up there with the individual who sold
35:07the taser.
35:09He described selling the two particular tasers to an older Asian female.
35:17The purchase occurred about two weeks or so before Sally's murder and the violent attack on Eric.
35:26And then in follow-up, we were able to determine that anybody who purchases a taser has to pay like
35:33an activation fee.
35:35So in looking up the associated serial numbers to the two tasers that were purchased, the credit card that was
35:42used belonged to May Lee.
35:45This solidifies that May was involved with this murder plan from the beginning.
35:54Next, these firearms, where did they come from?
35:57Looking at the serial numbers, we were able to determine that one of the firearms was purchased at a gun
36:04show in Nevada.
36:05We were able to make contact with the individual that sold it.
36:08And in talking to him, we found out that he remembered quite clearly the individuals that he sold his firearm
36:16to.
36:16And it was to two Asian females who he described as lucky if they were 100 pounds wet.
36:25Rosa and May went to the gun show in October, way before the crime actually occurred.
36:31And as we continue to investigate, we learned that Rosa went to Reno before that.
36:39We were able to identify a co-worker of hers that took a trip with her to Reno a couple
36:44months prior to the homicide.
36:47And she made some odd purchases at a sporting goods store, two samurai swords and a bow and arrow set.
36:57And we ended up finding those inside Rosa's car that was left on scene.
37:08And then we get the results from the forensic lab on the computer.
37:13And the first thing that just jumps off the paper is a Google search of how to murder.
37:26There were several other things that were found on that computer.
37:30Confusion in elderly, medications that are used for the elderly,
37:35things that would really relate or show maybe what was planned to happen to Sally.
37:43Rose had developed a hatred of my grandmother because as I was starting to win in the courts,
37:50she assumed that my grandmother was paying for the attorney, which was not true.
37:56It was clear that they had put all the blame on Eric and Sally for the custody issues.
38:05And the contents of the backpack definitely, they spoke to what their mindset was.
38:10You could definitely call it a murder kit, a hostage kit.
38:17They brought that there with full intent to use on Sally and Eric.
38:23What are you doing?
38:27What are you doing?
38:38So, when looking at the evidence recovered from the Brentwood residence,
38:43it is clear that this murder was premeditated.
38:48there was a letter found which was titled operation custody a plan to basically murder
38:55sally and eric to gain full custody of rosa and eric's daughter
39:05the plan began in fall of 2008 when rosa becomes obsessed with gaining full custody of her daughter
39:13and will do anything to make it happen she and her mother may named their plot operation custody
39:19over the following months they look at ways to commit and get away with murder first they
39:26researched deadly substances including arsenic cyanide strychnine mustard gas and ammonia after
39:33deciding against poisons or toxins the pair began amassing an alarming cache of weapons from guns and
39:40tasers to a samurai sword and crossbow they then assemble their kill kit and decide to execute
39:47their plan on the day of the murder they drive to my house planning to murder sally and me
39:54once inside the residence rosa may beat and strangle sally to death stuff her body into a garbage can
40:01and lie in wait for eric to come home when eric arrived at home they ambush him and begin using
40:08the baton and tasers and after all that they plan to kill eric which they thought would result in rosa
40:17being granted full custody
40:23this plan was so intricate and it all fell apart because lester really cared about my grandmother
40:29if he wouldn't have called jeff and utah and if they hadn't shown up and called the cops may and
40:37rosa would have
40:37gotten away with it i definitely feel like i've been blessed on that front
40:46two years later in 2011 may and rosa stood trial for the murder of sally hill and attempted murder of
40:57eric hill
40:59they were convicted an antioch woman and her mother were convicted today in the killing of a 91 year old
41:06a great-grandmother selma hill's body was found stuffed into a garbage the callousness behind this plan
41:24was something that i've never seen in my now 30-year career
41:29when it comes to people getting divorced or child custody issues people lose their mind
41:37but for a family to be involved in the actual execution of a murder plan is unique
41:59i have to say that as bad as this experience was my daughter's done well great kid who who's been
