00:28417, we got shots fired, man.
00:32Location.
00:34I need a racetrack, start me some units.
00:40Come on, start me some units.
00:44Come on, let's go, let's roll.
00:47All units staged on me at the...
00:50I observed four subjects in the area.
00:53They lost me on, I'm going to stand by.
00:57All four units with a racetrack, turn the ball, shot fired.
01:02420, we 10-4, we en route.
01:0410-4.
01:12We got a victim yet, right?
01:14No, we don't.
01:16We got about eight, nine-millimeter showcases, we got some clothing, and then we got a blister
01:21pack of some narcotics, like some pills over there.
01:23We got a blister.
01:25Let's call for four for right now.
01:27Can you keep us updated if you get any calls for a gunshot victim?
01:31Yeah, bro.
01:35Now we're wondering...
01:39Please, please, please, please, please, please, please.
01:43You keep your call.
01:44Stop!
01:45Send the parking.
01:46Please!
01:47Just send the parking.
01:49I do have this gent over to it just like it.
01:52Please, this is the barrier.
01:57What's your gun going on?
01:58It's all right.
01:59It's all right.
01:59This vehicle is going up.
02:00I was heartening here.
02:02Whoa!
02:03Don't touch the car!
02:04Don't touch the car.
02:05Whoa!
02:07I'm going to have a one.
02:09Yes, Leo!
02:10Please, please, we can't normal tell me everything.
02:36I have a deceased male victim in his 20s.
02:41Uh, from what I know so far, somebody ambush style started shooting at him, hit him, and
02:50the person he was with drove back here.
02:53Not sure if it's his residence or what.
03:01Bro, that's my partner, bro.
03:04That's my partner, bro.
03:05Man, bro.
03:11Hey, we got the person that was in the car with him, in the back of the car.
03:16Okay.
03:17Want to take it to the 4th District?
03:18I'll let him in.
03:19Okay.
03:22The scene is chaotic.
03:23There's people screaming, trying to get to the body.
03:26Of course, they're shocked.
03:27They see their loved one is shot in the head.
03:29In the passenger seat of the vehicle, we learned that the surviving victim was the driver of
03:35the vehicle and drove the victim to the residence after the shooting.
03:40The actual shooting happened at a restaurant parking lot, which is probably five or ten
03:45minutes away.
03:48At this point, we're going to take the surviving victim back to the 4th District
03:51station for questioning.
03:56When I arrive on scene, the victim has been taken from the scene by the coroner's office.
04:06I learned that the victim's name was Malcolm Solomon.
04:09He was 22 years old and a New Orleans native.
04:12His friends and family called him Paul.
04:17I was told there was a police officer in the gas station on the opposite side of the restaurant
04:23where the shooting took place.
04:25That officer heard the gunshots, so he called them out on the radio, and then he made his
04:32way over there.
04:33By the time he got there, the perpetrators had fled, and the surviving victim had left
04:38in her car with the deceased victim.
04:40And once they got to his house, the call was made to 911 that there was a shot person
04:45there, and then it was pretty easy to connect the two.
04:51Okay.
04:52When I got over there, somebody jumped out the dumpster and-
04:55Dumpster?
04:55Dumpster?
04:56And started shooting.
04:56Everybody would talk to.
04:58That's the girl that was with him in the truck.
05:00Okay.
05:01Okay.
05:02Go talk to her and see what she says.
05:05Being that this was a secondary scene, there's not a lot going on here.
05:10Usually we have casings to pick up, surveillance footage to download.
05:14For this scene, we don't have any of that, which is good because we can, you know, leave the
05:18family members to grieve and come talk to them at a later point.
05:24Myself and Detective Rael Johnson are going to the 4th District Station to interview the
05:30surviving victim.
05:34We're done collecting over here.
05:36I think we're just getting the last minute information from, uh, the owner.
05:41Have Wayne get a number for me so I can try to get some footage.
05:44I'm at the 4th District now.
05:46We're about to talk to somebody that was with him, apparently.
05:50I'm having Detective Wayne Lewis follow up with the owner of the restaurant to see if there's
05:54any surveillance footage that captured the incident so that we can get a better idea
05:58of what happened to Malcolm.
06:02They don't bad.
06:04They don't bad.
06:06They don't bad.
06:07They don't bad.
06:08They don't bad.
06:08They don't bad.
06:09Hey, how you doing?
06:10Ooh, he's been my friend bad.
06:13They have no reason to do him bad.
06:16Ooh.
06:17Breathe for me, okay?
06:18Breathe in.
06:19Breathe in.
06:20Breathe in.
06:21Breathe for me so we can help you guys.
06:23Okay.
06:24We gotta find out exactly what happened, so let's just try to calm down for us real quick,
06:28because we don't need to be in here all night.
06:31We was trying to calm some weed.
06:34We were supposed to give this with me, but they were supposed to give us the weed.
06:38I got out of the car and I went in the passenger side and his car.
06:42When I went to get him the money for the weed, bro, that's when two other dudes came from
06:49like behind a trash can and they just pulled guns up to me.
06:55When I gave him my money, the other one opened the car door.
06:59I was going and said, get out.
07:01I wasn't trying to live without my money because I didn't have the weed, bro.
07:06So I was like, man, I'm trying to get out with my money.
07:09I'm trying to grab my money, too.
07:11He just got the gun and he started shooting.
07:15And when he started shooting, Paul never got out of the car.
07:19Paul never got out of the car, bro.
07:22He never got out of the car.
07:24The surviving victim has probably been through one of the most traumatic experiences
07:28she's been in her entire life.
07:30It was apparent very quickly that she was there to tell us what happened
07:34and she wanted to get justice for Malcolm.
07:43Do you know these guys?
07:47If you could, show us.
07:49That's his number right there.
07:51Red Nissan.
07:52I know it was a red car.
07:53I wasn't tripping.
07:55She actually shows us a text message that the perpetrator had texted her.
07:59It says red Nissan SUV.
08:01So we know that we're looking for a red Nissan SUV.
08:05There was three people in that car.
08:07So if you could, describe the one who...
08:10I know exactly how the one that was in the driver's side,
08:13the one that I was giving him, gave the money to.
08:16Okay, describe.
08:17He was dark skinned.
08:18He was tall.
08:19He looked like he was like 18, 19, bro.
08:23Yeah.
08:24He had, like, twisted, but he had a ski mask,
08:28but his ski mask wasn't down.
08:29That's why I didn't even think nothing of it either.
08:31His ski mask was lifted up on his hair.
08:33Like, the other dude that opened the car on me, he was red.
08:38He had a bush.
08:39He had a red hoodie on.
08:41The other dude, I'm not gonna lie.
08:42I didn't see the other dude that good.
08:44Okay.
08:46Let me just check out real quick.
08:47We'll be right back with you, okay?
08:53Hey, he could check a number for us right quick.
08:56Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:58We took the phone number that she gave us,
09:01entered it into a law enforcement database.
09:09Oh, Kimoni Johnson.
09:12Yeah, she just described him like that, too.
09:14Yeah.
09:15I should do a lineup, though.
09:16Yeah, do a lineup for certain.
09:17Yeah.
09:20We're going to make a six-pack photographic lineup
09:23and have another detective show it to her
09:26to see if she will pick out Kimoni Johnson as the driver.
09:33Detective Wayne Lewis came to the 4th District Station
09:36after looking at the footage from the restaurant parking lot,
09:39and he told us what he saw.
09:41So a red SUV pulls up.
09:47Then it backs in.
09:51Then it pulls up, like, closer to the dumpster.
09:56Then it backs in and goes back over there.
09:59So, like, it was trying to position itself,
10:00and we're going to get there.
10:02We know the surviving victim statements are pretty accurate
10:05because Detective Lewis was able to tell
10:07on the surveillance footage
10:08that the perpetrators did show up in a red SUV.
10:14Then two people get out of that car
10:16from the rear driver's side
10:18and the front passenger's side,
10:19and those two people walk off camera
10:21in the direction of the dumpster.
10:25The surviving victim pulls into the spot
10:28right next to them on their passenger's side.
10:32The surviving victim gets out of her car,
10:35walks around the front of her car,
10:38gets in the passenger's side of the perpetrator's car.
10:43There was an exchange of money,
10:45and then as she's seated in the perpetrator's vehicle,
10:48roughly a minute passes.
10:51When the two people that were hiding by the dumpster
10:54approach the back of the car,
10:55one person goes and opens her door
10:57and began to rob her.
11:00She tried to take her money back.
11:02The surviving victim runs around the front of her car.
11:06One of the two started shooting at her,
11:08and in turn, Malcolm gets shot
11:10as he's seated in the front passenger's seat of her car.
11:16From what we have right now,
11:17we can't identify a license plate,
11:19but it corroborates her story
11:21as far as the timeline of events.
11:24Now I want to show the surviving victim a lineup.
11:28Being in a traumatic incident like that,
11:30I wanted to get her to look at it as quick as possible
11:33because that face is still fresh in her mind.
11:36It's taking time to go through those pictures.
11:38Hmm!
11:40Does that make you recognize any of those persons
11:41in those pictures?
11:43Hmm!
11:54That looks like the draw book.
11:56The one that, that when I got in the car,
11:58the dark-skinned ones, they had the ski masks up.
12:02The one that, that when I got in the car,
12:13the dark-skinned ones,
12:13the dark-skinned ones,
12:13the dark-skinned ones,
12:13the dark-skinned ones,
12:14the dark-skinned ones,
12:15the dark-skinned ones,
12:16the dark-skinned ones,
12:16the dark-skinned ones,
12:16the dark-skinned ones,
12:16the dark-skinned ones,
12:17the dark-skinned ones,
12:20the dark-skinned ones,
12:22the dark-skinned ones,
12:23the dark-skinned ones,
12:24the dark-skinned ones,
12:29the dark-skinned ones,
12:29It was smooth, just like this.
12:31Soon as I got in the car, it was just one person.
12:34When I got in the car, I just see him.
12:36That looks like the person that was in the car.
12:38OK.
12:40The surviving witness identified the suspect
12:44as a Kimani Johnson and said, that looks like the driver.
12:50Pretty excited that she picked him out.
12:53This essentially is going to be enough for me
12:55to get an arrest warrant for Kimani.
12:59Hello.
13:00Good morning.
13:01Do you want to sign an arrest warrant?
13:03Let me back up.
13:04We talked to a witness who gave us a number of the person
13:09she was going to meet.
13:10She identified him as the person that she met up with.
13:14Wow.
13:15What was the motive?
13:16It was a robbery.
13:18The motive was a robbery.
13:19The person that they ID'd, is that the shooter?
13:22He was the driver of the perp vehicle.
13:25We have at least two shooters, three suspects.
13:28Awesome.
13:29Yeah.
13:29That's great.
13:30Great job.
13:32At this point, we're two hours into the investigation,
13:35maybe three, and we already have one of our prime suspects
13:38identified.
13:39But there's three perpetrators, and they would all be culpable
13:44for the death of Malcolm.
13:49I was able to get search warrants for the phone number that
13:52was registered to Kamiya Johnson.
13:54So hopefully, we're able to get better video footage
13:57after the sun comes up, and get a better view of what
14:00actually took place.
14:21On a late night, early morning investigation, I'll be able to go home, decompress, change clothes,
14:27shower, maybe get a couple hours of sleep, and then come back to the hospital.
14:31I'll be able to get back early in the morning, when businesses open, and start back with the investigation.
14:45We're looking for a small red Nissan SUV, may or may not have ballistic damage.
14:50It appeared to be a narcotics transaction that turned into a robbery.
14:57The female victim told us all she had was $50.
15:01It's crazy.
15:03It's stupid.
15:05I sent the warrant to Val's.
15:07I would imagine they'll be up on him pretty quick.
15:10Yeah.
15:12I was able to talk to Malcolm's mother.
15:16She was handling it a lot better than expected.
15:20Everything that we've uncovered so far, he wasn't involved in the robbery.
15:24He was sitting in the car the whole time.
15:28Malcolm Solomon didn't get out of the vehicle.
15:30He was seated in the passenger side.
15:32It's just sad.
15:33I really don't know why they shot him.
15:36It's messed up that the innocent person got killed.
15:39Yeah, he was just chilling.
15:47So, the perp car was back then right here, right?
15:49The perp car was back then there.
15:50It's one of these three spots.
15:54They jump around a little bit, like, it backs it over here, and then it comes over here,
15:58and then it goes back over there.
16:00And then when they finally pull up, it's in that second spot.
16:04Okay.
16:05She pulls up right next to it.
16:06Mm-hmm.
16:08Did you see where the casings were?
16:09Like, I know there was three groups.
16:11There was casings there, there was casings over here, and then there was more casings.
16:16How far back?
16:18The placement of the casings is significant because it may be able to tell me who was standing
16:23where when the gunshots were going off.
16:26Where the car went?
16:28The car went around the epic center.
16:31Oh, okay.
16:31Trying to get away from it.
16:33Over here where this black car is.
16:35Really?
16:36Damn.
16:37Okay.
16:37So, there's probably them busing back at her.
16:39Yeah, so they're shooting back at her.
16:41There's two groups of 9mm casings, and there's one .40 caliber casing.
16:46So, it appears likely that there's going to be three guns involved.
16:49The car, it pulls in here, it stops, they get in, and then it goes around.
16:54I want to go over to the next door and see if that's got audio.
16:59It's a storage facility.
17:01It looks like a decent camera.
17:04We know the surviving victim statements are pretty accurate, but the more angles that
17:08can tell us what happened is a good step in the right direction to be able to explain
17:13everything.
17:15How are you doing?
17:17Hello.
17:17Detective Johnson, Detective Deesburg.
17:19How are y'all?
17:20We investigated the incident that happened over there.
17:22We saw you had a camera on the little backside back there.
17:25Do they have audio?
17:27Or no?
17:27No.
17:29It was 10.50 on Saturday night.
17:33Oh, there we go.
17:34Nice.
17:35That's the thing coming in.
17:36Oh, it's going to be perfect.
17:38Oh, yeah.
17:38This is going to be perfect.
17:40Look, I got a plate on it, huh?
17:41It does.
17:42Yeah.
17:43Look like it.
17:45That's one getting out.
17:48Two getting out.
17:52He starts it up and pulls over here.
17:55Mm-hmm.
17:56Shortly after, the surviving victim pulls into the spot right next to them on their passenger's
18:01side.
18:01You can see shapes.
18:03You can see the cars really well.
18:04But it's pretty dark.
18:06The surviving victim told me she gets out of her car, gets in the perpetrator's car.
18:13All right, so now they're coming up.
18:15So that's the perpetrator.
18:18One of them.
18:18That's the dude in the red hoodie.
18:20He opens the door.
18:21Gun on her.
18:27Wow.
18:28That's the shot to his forehead.
18:32Yeah, she just ducked off the check cover.
18:34Mm-hmm.
18:35It's kind of shocking to actually see what occurred.
18:39Two other armed individuals creep from around the corner.
18:43And it looks like they're trying to rob the surviving victim.
18:47But at some point, they just shoot.
18:50And our surviving victim is ducking and running, trying not to get shot.
18:55Malcolm Solomon.
18:56The victim was just seated in the passenger seat.
18:58He didn't do anything.
18:59He never got off the car.
19:01Honestly, I don't even think he saw it coming.
19:04It looks like the suspect that approached the passenger side of the car first is the one
19:08who fired the shot that killed Malcolm.
19:11What's a supplements on?
19:18Had Apparel.
19:18I understand.
19:18Whatever.
19:33I've been doing something like that before,
19:41Do you want to deal with this and my chance?
19:41Odds erases this.
19:43Good morning.
19:44Good morning, good morning.
19:45So Commander Johnson, the person that's wanted for a homicide over the weekend,
19:49was located here by the U.S. Marshals this morning.
19:52They transported him and one other person to Detective Bureau.
19:56Detective Deesburg and Rayelle over there right now are questioning them.
20:00We're going to go inside and search and see if we can find any weapons or the clothing that they
20:04were in.
20:04Great, that's wonderful.
20:06All right, good deal.
20:06Sure.
20:16Right there, let's see it for me.
20:19Myself and Rayelle decide to talk to Kamani first
20:22because he is the one that's under arrest for second-degree murder.
20:26All right, my name is Detective Deesburg.
20:28Hey, no, no.
20:28My partner is Detective Johnson.
20:30Hey, no, I ain't doing what's up, man.
20:31Come on, you kill us.
20:33Kamani didn't seem surprised or worried about anything, really.
20:39Where were you at Saturday night?
20:42Saturday night.
20:45This Saturday.
20:46Yeah, it's past Saturday, the 26th.
20:49At home.
20:50What's your phone number?
20:57That's the only phone you had?
20:59Yeah.
21:00I got an arrest warrant for you, obviously.
21:02Oh, yeah, he told me that.
21:04For the homicide.
21:05All right.
21:05Okay, so Saturday night, let's start again with where you were.
21:11Because I work for New Orleans, right?
21:12Yeah, it is.
21:13I know you weren't home.
21:15What?
21:16My house?
21:16Mm-hmm.
21:17I wouldn't be here if you were home.
21:19Yeah, I see what y'all are saying.
21:20But I don't leave the house.
21:23My brother don't need to let me go out past 11.
21:25She'd be crying about that and if I go out, I'd be locked up.
21:27Where were you at before 11?
21:29I stay home.
21:30So if somebody said they saw you, they would be totally incorrect.
21:34Somebody said they saw me where?
21:36The mall?
21:37No, at .
21:38If somebody said they saw me at .
21:40They had a hellerone.
21:42Hellerone.
21:43For sure, 100%.
21:44Not a lot of people that look like you.
21:46I'm 6'5.
21:47That's true.
21:48Exactly, bro.
21:49I'm 6'5, bro.
21:49Have you seen me at a ,, bro?
21:51You're going to notice me.
21:54Kimani tells me his name.
21:56He gives me a phone number for him,
21:58which is not the phone number that I already have for him.
22:02I have him ID'd out of a photo lineup.
22:05That's just like the draw of the dark-skinned one.
22:09They had to scheme that stuff.
22:11So he's the alleged perpetrator.
22:14I'm not going to sit there and beg him for information.
22:18Do you know him?
22:19Who?
22:20Ray.
22:21Ray?
22:22Who are my brothers?
22:23Hello, brothers?
22:24Hello, brothers.
22:25Gotcha.
22:27We'll see how it goes for you.
22:53So the person that was in the same apartment as Kimani,
22:56his name is Gregory Jones.
22:59Me and Deesburg, we asked him the same questions
23:01that we asked Kimani.
23:03Where were you at Saturday night?
23:06Saturday night.
23:09Inside.
23:10Inside.
23:11My grandmother.
23:12Cool.
23:14Gregory has given us a similar story that Kimani told us.
23:17Gregory states that he was home at the time of the murder
23:20because his grandmother gives him a curfew of 11 o'clock.
23:23We investigated the homicide that happened on Saturday.
23:26I don't be as honest as I can with you.
23:28And I'm asking you the question where you were.
23:30I need you to be 100% sure about what you tell me next.
23:33So don't get caught up in some that you may not want to be a part of.
23:36Okay?
23:37So I want to give you another opportunity to explain about Saturday night.
23:41Saturday night?
23:43Inside?
23:44My grandmother.
23:55Gregory Jones is held in the custody of the sheriff's office pending the results of the search warrant.
24:07We have in the closet on the top shelf in a, like, purse, two guns, one with an extended magazine,
24:15.40 caliber, and then a 9mm glocks.
24:19That's what we have on scene.
24:21And then two magazines upstairs.
24:23During the search, unfortunately, we didn't find any cell phones, but it's a very exciting find.
24:29Two guns that match the crime scene in the house.
24:32So now I'm looking more at Gregory as potentially being a co-perpetrator.
24:39Today we were expecting to find Kamani Johnson, but we were not expecting to find Gregory Jones or anybody else
24:46that matched the descriptions given by the surviving witness.
24:50The other dude that opened the car on me, he was red.
24:54He had a bush.
24:56We talked to the DP deputy.
24:58I asked him to hold Gregory until we got done here to see what we got.
25:02Okay, well, go to the bureau, call NCIC, find out if the guns are stolen.
25:07Okay, good.
25:12Calling NCIC when we find guns is part of our procedure.
25:16We have to know if they're stolen or if they're not.
25:18We've got two guns.
25:20Both calibers match the crime scene.
25:24But right now I don't have much to charge Gregory Jones with, so running these guns to see if they're
25:30stolen can help me lock him down so that I can further investigate Gregory Jones as a potential suspect in
25:37this case.
25:39That way we can charge him, hopefully, while he's still in jail and we don't have to go look for
25:43him again.
25:46Hey, man.
25:48Let me ask you, so we found two guns in the house.
25:50Are those y'alls or who they belong to?
25:55Huh?
25:57You don't have no gun?
26:06All right.
26:09One of the guns did come back stolen, so Gregory's getting booked on that, so he'll be in jail for
26:15a couple days.
26:24From what I have so far, Kamani is identified as the driver of the perpetrator's vehicle.
26:32There was two other perpetrators.
26:36Gregory matches the general description of the second perpetrator.
26:40He's lighter skinned.
26:42He has a bushy style haircut.
26:44He has a bushy style haircut, but it's not enough to arrest him for murder.
27:05So what are we doing today?
27:07We're going to Malcolm's mom's house.
27:11So we arrested Kamani last Thursday.
27:14Right.
27:15So I'm just going to go give her an update,
27:17let her know that he's in jail
27:19and that he was arrested with somebody else.
27:21And we're working on Gregory Jones as a potential suspect.
27:26Yeah, it'll be nice telling her, of course,
27:27that we got one of the guys,
27:29but we still got some more work to do
27:30to find out who these other ones were.
27:32Hopefully that'll give her a little bit of closure.
27:34Yeah.
27:42How are you doing?
27:43Why don't we step inside?
27:47Meeting in person,
27:48rather than simply calling them on the phone,
27:51shows the family that I care
27:53about this investigation and Malcolm.
27:57We want to bring them good news
27:58that we have made an arrest
28:00and that we're continuing to thoroughly investigate
28:03the other two perpetrators.
28:06getting justice for Malcolm Solomon
28:08is important
28:10because this can be anybody's tragic ending.
28:21All right.
28:22Well, that went pretty well.
28:24Yeah.
28:24She's been pretty calm
28:25the entire time.
28:27They had a lot of questions
28:28that I know you couldn't answer.
28:30Yeah.
28:31Unfortunately.
28:31You know, families usually do.
28:32And unfortunately,
28:33this early in the investigation,
28:35you really just can't tell them a lot.
28:37Like, I can tell you his name.
28:39Yeah.
28:39Because he's in jail.
28:40You know, the other people I'm looking at,
28:42I don't want to put them out there just yet.
28:45Right.
28:47So, but I think she took it pretty well.
28:49Mm-hmm.
28:50As well as she could, I guess.
28:53You know.
28:54But I'm glad I was able to at least give him
28:56that initial closure
28:57that somebody's been arrested
28:59and that we're still working on it.
29:04The last couple of days,
29:06Gregory Jones has been in custody
29:07for possession of a stolen firearm.
29:09But we need more probable cause
29:10to charge him for Malcolm's murder.
29:12I mean, right now,
29:13the clock is ticking for D's Bird.
29:15Any day now,
29:15Gregory could be released
29:17or bailed out of jail.
29:48I finally got the ballistics comparison back.
29:52So, that's a big win.
29:55I compiled the lineup
29:57to show the surviving witness
29:59to identify another suspect
30:01at the crime scene.
30:03So, we're headed
30:04to the 4th District Station
30:05to see who she picked.
30:15Good morning.
30:26Number two.
30:28I see that the surviving witness
30:31picked Gregory Jones.
30:37Okay, so what did number two do
30:38both of the day of the rest of it?
30:41I was pulling the car door open.
30:44Is it a driver passing you the door?
30:46No, the passenger side.
30:48Nothing.
30:49He said that he was pulling
30:51on the door handle of the car.
30:53The passenger door.
30:55Good.
30:58With the identification process
31:00of Gregory Jones being successful
31:03and the ballistic match
31:05of the guns that were found
31:06in the house
31:06they were both living in
31:08puts me over the top
31:09with probable cause
31:10to be able to charge
31:11Gregory Jones with the homicide.
31:28He said that he was the one
31:30and said that he was the one
31:32that opened the passenger side door.
31:33That's pretty good.
31:35Well, I'm about to head back
31:36to headquarters
31:37and type up this arrest warrant, so.
31:40All right, bro.
31:42I'm hoping that Gregory Jones
31:44is still in jail.
31:44Thank you so much.
31:46You're welcome.
31:46So that I can go charge him
31:47with the homicide
31:48without having to track him down
31:50and arrest him again.
31:52All right, let's go type
31:52this arrest warrant.
32:21Got the warrant typed up.
32:22We should check
32:23if he's still in there.
32:26Jefferson Parish.
32:29Jail.
32:30Now that I have
32:31the arrest warrant in hand,
32:32I want to see
32:33if Gregory Jones
32:34is still in jail
32:35for the gun arrest
32:36by Jefferson Parish.
32:38Search.
32:39He is not in there.
32:40So, yeah,
32:41so he's bonded out
32:43on his stolen gun charge.
32:46It's frustrating
32:46that he's not in jail anymore,
32:48but the arrest warrant
32:49is never going to go away,
32:50so he'll get picked up eventually.
32:53The marshals are going to find you
32:54pretty much wherever you go.
32:56Here we go.
32:58I'll send this warrant off
32:59to Vows
33:00to go look for him again
33:01once he's in custody.
33:03It'll be another clearance
33:05for this case,
33:07and then I'll have to work on
33:09the third perpetrator,
33:10see what I can find out on him.
33:14No
33:30He's in custody.
33:51I'm definitely intrigued about why he has the plate from the perpetrator vehicle, why
33:56it's on a different car, so hopefully he can explain that, or he's going to have some more
34:01serious questions to answer.
34:03He might be the third suspect.
34:13I usually ask how you doing, but I know it's kind of a rough morning for you.
34:18So my name is Detective Deesbury, this is Detective Jefferson.
34:22I'm interested in your car that you have right now, where you got it from, who you got
34:28it from, and pretty much everything like that.
34:31I bought it last Tuesday.
34:34Okay.
34:35Where'd you buy it from?
34:37A homeboy of mine in West Waco, outside of a friend.
34:41Was the plate on the car when you bought it?
34:43No.
34:44Where'd you get the plate from?
34:46So I work at a .
34:47I was waiting on the template, and I just got a plate from the junkyard, and just in between
34:56getting my template, because I didn't want to get pulled over, that's what happened.
34:59Okay.
35:00What are you talking about?
35:01It's like a bin that y'all just threw old stuff in?
35:03We just throw, we just throw, yeah, we just throw all our junk in, it's aluminum, so we
35:06pull it in.
35:07And you just went in that payment?
35:08I just went from the, you know, a plate.
35:11Okay.
35:11And just put it on the fire until, like I said, my product template came.
35:14So no telling when that plate came?
35:16Right, there's no telling.
35:17I was just using it as a stopgap, man, between getting, I didn't think it was going to be
35:21all this.
35:22He doesn't really know what's going on, he seems very nervous.
35:25I pretty much explained to him where the plate is from.
35:28He doesn't know anything about the homicide, and he just explained how he came into possession
35:32of the plate.
35:56The plate on this car came off of a homicide vehicle.
36:00I'm not worried about the car itself.
36:02I just want to take the plate off, photograph the plate on the car, and then fingerprint
36:07the plate after you take it off.
36:08Okay, sounds good.
36:12License plates are pretty conductive to lifting fingerprints off of them, because they're
36:18a smooth surface, they're not permeable.
36:19So I'm hoping that if the plate was taken off of the perpetrator vehicle by the suspects,
36:25maybe their fingerprints will still be on the license plate somewhere.
36:29Yeah.
36:30We got one right there.
36:31Okay.
36:31One right there.
36:35We got some right here in the middle.
36:469.05 for prints?
36:48Yes.
36:48Six?
36:50Yes.
36:50Two on the front, four on the back.
36:52So this dude, he works at a scrapyard.
36:54She was like, man, I'm just gonna grab this plate that's in the box, put it on my car
36:59so I don't get pulled over between then and now.
37:02What's the odds are grabbing that plate?
37:03I was like, bro, you grabbed the worst possible plate you could have grabbed out of
37:07that.
37:07So out of all of the plates in the box,
37:09he grabs the one that's tied to a murder.
37:12Hey, Mr. .
37:13Step on out.
37:21I don't think he's going to be one of my perpetrators.
37:24He was pretty straightforward about where he got the plate
37:26from.
37:27That plate could have come in off the street
37:29from any of the dozens of local scrappers
37:33that go around and just pick up metal
37:36and trash and bring it to these scrapyards.
37:39Now I'm just still looking for this car
37:43and see if we can find Gregory Jones.
37:46The arrest warrant is a paper document.
37:49It goes into a nationwide database.
37:51So no matter where you're at in the country,
37:53if a police officer stops you and runs your name,
37:57they're going to see that you're wanted for murder.
38:00They'll find him.
38:02Cannot run the paper.
38:06The End
38:08The End
38:08The End
38:08The End
38:26The End
38:36The End
38:38They found Gregory Jones.
38:40Oh.
38:41The marshals picked him up in the east.
38:43They were having trouble finding him.
38:45They couldn't pin him down close enough to hit a house.
38:49How the arrest went? Anything crazy?
38:51No. The marshals pretty much just said they rolled up on the house and he was outside.
38:54They saw him go inside, so they surrounded the house, called him out.
38:59But he came out unarmed, hooked him up and took him to jail.
39:03Good decision.
39:04Yeah.
39:05Kamani and Gregory's cell phone records both came back and put him on scene,
39:09traveling from the house to the scene and then back to where they laid up that night.
39:15Late time. It's over.
39:16So we have the guns, phone records, putting them on scene, the car right by their house.
39:22Like, we got everything.
39:24Didn't you get like a license plate off the car?
39:26Yeah, the plate was on somebody else's car that worked at a junkyard.
39:29We took the plate and fingerprinted it, but none of the fingerprints are suitable.
39:34But that doesn't hinder my investigation.
39:38Any updates on the third suspect?
39:40Not really.
39:41You got the two you need right now?
39:43Yeah, for sure.
39:44With that being said, how do you think Malcolm's family gonna react to it?
39:48I think they're gonna be relieved because four or five months I've been telling them that
39:51we've been looking for this dude and we finally got Gregory in jail.
39:55He's not running around anymore.
39:57The marshals are relentless.
39:59He'll find you.
40:00Congrats.
40:01Thanks, bro.
40:45Thank you all for being here.
40:48Today, we gather not only in remembrance, but in resilience.
40:53We honor survivors, their stories and the voices that have emerged through the pain,
40:58demanding healing and justice.
41:00We are here to hold space for those of you who've lost, uplift those who are still healing,
41:05and stand united in our commitment to justice for all.
41:09Please now welcome Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hudson.
41:14Good evening, everyone.
41:17I look at these beautiful pictures, these beautiful faces, your brothers, your sisters, your children.
41:25You know, I just can't think of any deeper pain than the loss of a child.
41:30I think we owe it to this community, we owe it to you to take it further and try to
41:35prevent this from happening in the future.
41:38And we want your help to be able to do that.
41:40We do not want this circle to grow and grow and grow.
41:44Chief Gurnan.
41:46Thank you so much, Sheriff.
41:48I really do appreciate all of you coming out here.
41:50I think that it's important that as those who have experienced pain and heartbreak move towards a sense of healing,
41:58you know that you're not doing this alone.
42:01My commitment to you on the part of the New Orleans Police Department is that we pledge to you our
42:06support.
42:07When you need that love, when you need that support, when you need those resources, please reach out to us.
42:13We stand here today with all of those families that have experienced this pain and trauma,
42:18as you remember and find solace in the thoughts of your loved ones being in a better place.
42:29As a homicide detective, you're the voice for the victim, essentially.
42:33You have to get the answers for the family to have closure.
42:40This was a difficult case to work.
42:42Malcolm was totally innocent.
42:44Just wrong place, wrong time.
42:46And it's not just important for NOPD.
42:49It's important for everyone in the city for us to solve these crimes
42:52and the people that are responsible are going to face the consequences.
42:56I definitely think I've gotten justice for Malcolm Solomon.
42:59into your work,am was from my goal for nearly 100% throughout school.
43:06Even in the Annapolis Police Departmentdeใ€…s
43:06For this war, it was an unwell product of loss.
43:08You can call it a writer of Malcolm Solomon.
43:09Who you know, ''Ch Weatherball ?''
