The federal government's diplomatic efforts to secure more fuel amid the global crisis continue, with foreign minister Penny Wong jetting off to Japan, China and South Korea.

00:01It's an opportunity for the Foreign Minister to engage more broadly with Australia's regional
00:07partners and to seek assurances that the supply of liquid fuels from these nations will continue
00:14to flow to Australia and in exchange give the assurance that Australia will also remain
00:19a reliable energy partner.
00:22Now, we have seen similar diplomatic missions carried out by the Prime Minister when he
00:27went to Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.
00:30Those visits resulting in joint statements and in principle agreements about fuel security.
00:36You can expect to see similar from the Foreign Minister, but she'll also be engaging with
00:42partners on issues like security, defence, even freedom of navigation and the importance
00:48of upholding the international rules-based order amid this period of global turmoil.
00:54Now, on the fuel front, the government has confirmed 58 shipments of liquid fuels are en route due
01:02to arrive in Australian ports into June.
01:06There's also an additional 400 million litres of diesel that has been secured from regional
01:13partners and underwritten by the federal government.
01:16The Defence Industry Minister, Pat Conroy, was asked if he's certain that Australia will not
01:22run out of fuel and he said the government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that those
01:28supplies are secure.
01:30This is about our regional diplomacy, working with our energy partners to lock in those supplies
01:35and we've been very successful in the agreements that we've announced with countries like Singapore,
01:41as well as securing additional shiploads of fuel through the Export Finance Australia arrangements.
01:49Now, the government has confirmed Australia at present has 44 days of petrol in reserve, 33 days of diesel
01:58and 30 days of jet fuel and we're expecting more news on the fuel supply front in the coming days.
