00:08welcome to mojo plays and today we're looking at some of the most iconic secret bosses players can
00:15challenge in fighting games but before we dive in we publish new content all week long
00:28so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos
00:34reptile mortal kombat he's a playable character in most mortal kombat games but reptiles debut made
00:45him one of gaming's most legendary secret bosses in the original game the green-clad ninja could
00:50randomly appear at the start of a match and give clues on how to reach him and the criteria was
00:56extremely specific on the pit stage only when silhouettes pass over the moon you have to earn a
01:07double flawless victory without blocking and finish your opponent with a fatality this causes your next
01:13fight to be against reptile while he only borrows moves from scorpion and sub-zero the hunt to find
01:19him at such an early stage in fighting game history is what earned reptile a legacy
01:30karai teenage mutant ninja turtles tournament fighters
01:39karai has been a key member of the foot clan and villain of the turtles for years now but she
01:45was
01:45brand new when tournament fighters was released having only debuted in the comics the year before
01:50she plays a big role in the story mode kidnapping both splinter and april o'neil and while you have
01:56other bosses to face in rescuing them you can't face the one in charge without putting forth the effort
02:08whether on the super nintendo or sega genesis versions she only shows up to fight on higher
02:13difficulties although that isn't too hidden the game is already hard enough and karai as a high
02:20ranking member of a ninja crime group is naturally a pretty big pain
02:30red armor snk vs capcom svc chaos
02:43the most iconic enemy from capcom's ghosts and goblin series the red armor is also one of its
02:49deadliest perhaps that's why one was turned into a secret boss for this crossover fighter with snk
02:55to face him in arcade mode you can't lose a single round you must finish at least five rounds with
03:01special
03:01moves and you must defeat at least one opponent with block damage if done correctly after facing
03:07the final opponent you'd then be confronted by the red armor with a variety of fire attacks and the
03:18ability to summon zombies he could certainly be a nuisance still before firebrand became a staple
03:24of marvel vs capcom seeing one of his brethren as a hidden boss here was pretty cool
03:35show shinjo battle arena toshinden
03:38the first battle arena toshinden made a big splash as a north american launch title for the original
03:49playstation although it naturally had a varied roster to choose from the main character was eiji
03:55shinjo a young swordsman entering a deadly tournament in search for his older brother
04:00players could actually find older brother show as a secret final boss and the winner of the last
04:06tournament by beating the game without using any continues and as you'd probably expect he's the former
04:12winner for a reason the brothers dynamic would be further explored in sequels as show appeared as a
04:25secret unlockable boss in both the second and third games as well shin long bloody roar 2 the new breed
04:32shena the leopard shen long the tiger the second bloody roar game brought in a ton of new characters
04:40including a pretty challenging secret boss in shin long and he actually has a lot in common with our
04:46previous entry although he isn't a missing brother he is the clone of long get it and you can also
04:53only face him as a secret boss in arcade mode without using a single continue he's clearly very
04:59deadly with his white tiger form but beating him also unlocks him to use against others and he would
05:04become a regular character in future games
05:17oni super street fighter 4 arcade edition finally my boy you have succumbed in power
05:29we'll get to akuma's iconic debut a little later but first let's talk about his
05:34demonic looking souped up form known as oni this elusive boss took a lot of work to reach in the
05:41arcade edition of super street fighter 4. firstly you couldn't lose a single round you also had to
05:47get two perfects land 10 first attacks and get five super or ultra combo finishers one of which had to
05:54be
05:54on the normal final boss seth only then would you face oni and probably regret it his immense speed and
06:02power is almost too ridiculous for words and is naturally a bit more overpowered than the
06:07playable version of oni which was included in the console release
06:14this is message aboro bishiman dark stalkers 3
06:25characters in the dark stalkers series feature all kinds of crazy designs and backstories such as
06:31bishiman a samurai whose armor and sword are cursed in the third game you can face an alternate version
06:37known as aboro bishiman as a secret boss to do so you can't play in auto mode which adds automatic
06:43blocking you also aren't allowed to lose a single round and must finish off two opponents with a
06:49specific ex move depending on the character you're playing as only after accomplishing this does aboro
06:56bishiman challenge you at the end and since this version has control over his cursed armaments
07:01he has different attacks to look out for too
07:11unlimited ragna blaze blue calamity trigger
07:21the blaze blue series is no stranger to secret bosses nor is it a stranger to including unlimited
07:27versions of characters which as you can probably guess are a lot more powerful than their regular
07:32counterparts the home console port of the first game saw the debut of these types of characters
07:37including one for the main hero ragna the blood edge to fight unlimited ragna you must go through
07:43arcade mode without losing one round and finish at least 10 rounds with a special distortion drive
07:49attack if done right your 11th opponent will be unlimited ragna who as we said is a hell of a
07:55lot
07:55harder to face than the normal one
08:06the general kaiser knuckle
08:14round one fight known as global champion outside of europe and japan kaiser knuckle took a lot of
08:21inspiration from street fighter 2 also focusing on a global fighting tournament that's hosted by a
08:26militaristic psychopath except unlike m bison the general is a secret boss to face him you must first
08:34beat a different hidden boss azteca who you reach by not using any continues and earning a score of at
08:39least 900 000. after defeating azteca again without using a continue you'll then face the general and
08:46even though this game is relatively obscure he is infamous as one of the hardest cheapest bosses in
08:53fighting game history even if you can reach him his speed and unfair tactics have been terrifying die
08:59hard fans for decades rio sakazaki fatal fury special
09:18s and k has given us several great fighting franchises over the years and in fatal fury
09:23special the third game in the series the studio decided to bring two of its universes together
09:28for the first time to face the secret boss rio sakazaki a protagonist of s and k's art of fighting
09:34series you must complete the arcade mode without losing a single round although that's less
09:39criteria than a lot of other hidden bosses rio is still a beast but it's also a historically important
09:45fight rio's inclusion here inspired s and k to create the king of fighters which brought in
09:51characters from both franchises and would go on to become more popular than either of them
10:06gigabowser super smash brothers melee
10:16it may be bowser's final smash now but back in melee gigabowser was a huge surprise to come
10:24across you'd only face him if you completed the game's adventure mode on normal difficulty or higher
10:30in under 18 minutes after defeating giant bowser his trophy would reappear and turn into an even more
10:37intimidating version of mario's arch nemesis
10:46not only is he much larger he's also significantly harder to knock off the stage
10:52it's highly likely he'd take a few of your lives before he went down even on normal mode you could
10:59also face him in the final event match where he came with ganondorf and mewtwo as allies just to make
11:06things a bit trickier
11:15kuruko samurai showdown 2
11:23appearing as the match referee in the original samurai showdown kuruko began showing off his own skills
11:29skills in the sequel as a hidden boss and he was pretty dang tough he could appear randomly though
11:36not frequently which could throw a monkey wrench into any given playthrough that was going well however
11:42there was also a guaranteed method to make him appear if you wanted to challenge yourself
11:54during the sixth eighth or tenth fight beating your opponent with a super move with less than 20 seconds
12:01on the timer and without losing a round could make kuruko appear next the computer ai is no joke though
12:09and
12:09he has plenty of heavy hitting attacks like fireballs devastating slashes and the ability to reflect or
12:17counter many of your moves
12:19doesn't want to fight him yes
12:21woo bro
12:28dr bosconovich
12:30tekken 3
12:31julia jr
12:38after appearing as a supporting character in the story of tekken 2
12:42the developers seemingly thought it would be funny to include this old bag of bones as a secret boss in
12:49the sequel.
12:49In order to face Dr. Baskanovich in Tekken 3, you have to beat the Tekken Force beat-em-up mode
12:55four times.
12:57For the first three, you'll earn a key after defeating a different boss at the end.
13:02And at the end of your fourth attempt, you'll face Haihachi, whose defeat causes the Doc to appear.
13:17He uses a mix of moves from other fighters, yet, comically, will fall over after certain attacks due to him
13:25canonically having scoliosis.
13:28If you beat him, you get the joy of playing as him yourself.
13:37You win.
13:40Geese Howard, Art of Fighting 2.
13:52After putting Ryo Sakazaki into Fatal Fury's special, SNK did something similar for the second Art of Fighting game.
13:59At the end of Art of Fighting 2, you can face a secret boss in Geese Howard, the primary villain
14:06of the Fatal Fury series.
14:08That's a lot easier said than done, though.
14:11To even get the chance, you're not allowed to lose a single round leading up to him.
14:17And this was definitely one of the tougher fighters of its era.
14:29After defeating the main villain, Mr. Big, Geese will step in and likely wipe the floor with you.
14:35He's fast and ruthless, able to read your movements with ease and attack accordingly.
14:41Still, undeniably cool.
14:51Night Terror, Soul Calibur 3.
15:05If you thought Nightmare was intimidating, just wait until you fight his souped-up version.
15:11This secret boss can be faced in the game's story mode, Tales of Souls.
15:16But you'll only find him by choosing the right branching paths, which are different depending on what character you're playing
15:22as.
15:23There's no denying how sick he looks, with massive flaming wings and fanged jaws in the place of where hands
15:31should be.
15:32However, Night Terror is a pretty accurate name, because this is a tough fight.
15:44He uses a combination of attacks from Nightmare and Siegfried, as well as his own unique ones.
15:50And if you thought you'd cheese the fight just by wringing him out, think again.
15:55That's impossible, due to Night Terror's wings just carrying him right back to the arena.
16:14Okay, I know it's not a fighting game in the traditional sense, but it technically counts,
16:23and adding Donkey Kong as a secret boss is just too cool to pass up.
16:28To unlock the fight against Nintendo's Great Ape in Punch-Out, you must first beat the full career mode to
16:34unlock Max Last Stand.
16:36Here, you face every fighter in the game, in random order, trying to get through all of them without losing
16:42three times.
16:43Donkey Kong will also appear randomly in the fighter order, and is naturally one of the hardest-hitting opponents in
16:50the game.
16:59He'll taunt you endlessly, and if you miss an attack while he's doing this, he'll counterattack so hard,
17:07Mac will likely go down in one hit.
17:16Biken. Guilty Gear.
17:27Although she'd become a more prominent character in later games, the wandering samurai Biken was the secret boss in the
17:34original Guilty Gear.
17:35And reaching her was definitely a challenge.
17:39You do so by beating the arcade mode as either Sol or Kai, without using a single continue.
17:46Unfortunately, there are no difficulty settings in this game, whose opponent AI is infamously hard.
18:02Factor in their proficiency in unleashing overdrive attacks that can annihilate your health bar, and it isn't likely you'll get
18:10to Biken on your first attempt.
18:11Naturally, she's the toughest of the tough.
18:15She may only have one arm, but that doesn't stop her from unleashing deadly slashes and powerful kicks that have
18:23sent anyone who managed to reach her into a rage.
18:34Shadow Jago, Killer Instinct.
18:45There's a lot you have to do to reach Shadow Jago in Killer Instinct.
18:50First, you'll have to unlock all three endings with any given character in arcade mode.
18:55Then, go through it a fourth time on hard or higher difficulty.
19:00On this playthrough, you can't lose a single fight, you have to earn at least two supreme victories, and you
19:07have to finish off at least two opponents with an ultra combo, with one of those opponents being your character's
19:13rival.
19:14If you do all of this, you'll face Shadow Jago at the end instead of Fulgore.
19:29While he looks and moves like regular Jago, there are a few notable differences.
19:34He has a few extra attacks, some of which come with super armor and some beefier stats.
19:40If you got through all the criteria it takes to face him, it shouldn't be a surprise that Shadow
19:46Jago brings the heat.
19:57FLYID, MORTAL COMBAT 1
20:07FLYID, MORTAL COMBAT 1
20:10stretching all the way back to the 1992 original.
20:14In the latest game, the devs added in another challenging secret combatant via an update with
20:20FLYID, a ninja clad in pink.
20:30He can be tough to find.
20:32You have to complete 10 out of 37 challenges, though which 10 is randomized for each player.
20:39On top of being a silly nod to the famous rock band, FLYID is a combination of characters.
20:45He uses attacks from Scorpion, Reptile, Sub-Zero, Rain, Ermac, and Shang Tsung.
20:52With so many movesets rolled into one, adapting to his attacks and claiming victory can be demanding.
20:58You get 3 attempts, after which your challenges reset.
21:02And you have to complete 10 more for FLYID to reappear.
21:22Before we continue, check out this single from SoundMojo's album current, EDM Transformed.
21:28Check out the full track and album below.
21:43Akuma Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
21:56Although it was the fifth version of Street Fighter 2,
22:01Turbo still had new additions, including one of the most famous secret bosses of all time, Akuma.
22:18In order to face him, players weren't allowed to use any continues.
22:22And they either had to earn a high score or beat all opponents leading to M-Bison in under 25
22:29minutes.
22:30If so, Akuma would appear immediately eliminate Bison and challenge you to one hellishly tough fight.
22:38He may seem like another Ryu or Ken, but every skill is enhanced.
22:43His speed is a lot to contend with, as are his multiple projectiles.
22:48And his ability to phase through your attacks makes him a nightmare.
22:53Still, Akuma has a legacy for a reason.
22:55And it all began right here.
23:04Which of these secret bosses do you have fond memories of challenging and defeating?
23:09Are there any big ones we left off?
