00:17What's up?
00:18Welcome to the coming first show.
00:21Y'all, we have a Grammy-nominated R&B powerhouse
00:25joining us for the opening song this hour.
00:27She's known for blending classic soul
00:29with a modern spin.
00:30She's also known, just her tone is incredible.
00:33I've been listening to her all morning.
00:34She's so great.
00:35Her latest album was three years in the making,
00:37performing Mobbin in DC from her new album, Vacancy.
00:41Give it up for Ari Lennox.
00:48You, I am on the ground, feeling crazy.
00:53Only wanna call me, baby.
00:56You know how I am.
00:59You don't give a damn what these people say.
01:04You're talking so nice to me.
01:09Came in it, but the eyes of me.
01:13So I guess I'll have to fly to no look for the night.
01:17Show you I'm obliged.
01:19Of course, I'll care for you.
01:24Darling, if you want to cut everyone off for you.
01:33This is, you put me through.
01:36You know where I'll stay.
01:38You know where I'll be.
01:40This ain't got to be.
01:42You know where I'll be.
01:53This ain't got to be.
01:58Well on, baby, we're grown, Home вдруг,
01:59baby, we grown, hit it up one time.
02:00Hit up the phone, hit it up one time.
02:09Four seasons' room made of waves
02:17Hey, why am I kidding?
02:25Your eyes got a lot to see
02:35And I like it
02:39Cause I can't
02:44Darling, you want me to
02:48Put everyone over
02:51Just a guess that you put me through
02:55You know where I stay
02:57You know where I be
02:59It's ridiculous
03:01No, no
03:04Tired of you saying
03:06That you're missing me
03:08You know my location
03:10I'm up in NDC
03:14One more time, give it up for Ari Linnick
03:18Incredible singers, incredible bands
03:23We're actually, we're gonna get to chat with her a little bit later
03:26Thank you, Ari, for now
03:27We'll see you in just a little bit
03:28Yes, let's welcome our lead guest though
03:30From his Tony-nominated role in the Scottsboro Boys
03:33To his Oscar-nominated roles in Rustin and Sing Sing
03:35He has a very impressive gravity to his presence
03:38Every time he hits the stage or screen
03:40Right now he's back every Sunday night on HBO Max
03:43For a new season of Euphoria
03:45Which he won an Emmy for
03:46No big deal
03:47And you can also catch him in the film Michael
03:49About the life of Michael Jackson
03:51It's in theaters starting tomorrow
03:52Everybody, give it up for our friend Coleman Domingo
04:19It was so good
04:20It was so good
04:23I know, I know
04:24It's like when it all collides
04:25It's nice
04:26It's beautiful
04:27Congrats on the new, everything
04:29You have like three different things going on right now
04:31But congrats on Michael
04:32Oh, thank you
04:33What kind of, does it cover specific parts of his life?
04:35It covers, you know, from the Gary Indiana years
04:39Yeah
04:40He is like eight years old
04:42In the makings of Michael
04:43That's what this film really is
04:44Yeah
04:45So you can get to understand who this icon is and was
04:48And his impact
04:49But it's also leading up to him becoming a solo artist
04:52Yeah
04:53So a lot of the conflict actually is between he and his father
04:56Because, you know, Joe had such a domineering
05:00His whole
05:01He surrounded Michael in every single way
05:03And his family
05:04So it's about Michael finally becoming himself
05:06And that's when you get into these other iconic albums and stuff like that
05:10Off the wall
05:11Yeah, off the wall
05:12Thriller, you name it
05:13He becomes the Michael, that superstar
05:14This is a hard
05:15This is a polarizing character
05:16Like this is like people
05:18How did you, this is a complicated man you're playing
05:20Yeah, I sort of run towards the complicated men
05:24Because I feel like I want to find out Joe Jackson
05:27What he cared about
05:28And why he cared about things in the way he did
05:30So for me, I'm looking at him
05:32And just trying to find a complex human being
05:34Find his humanity
05:35Find out what makes him hurt
05:37What makes him, you know, strong
05:38Or really, you know, formidable
05:40So I'm looking for all of that stuff
05:41So that's what I did with him
05:43Yeah
05:43It is interesting what gets us where we are
05:46It's true
05:46You know, I do like that
05:48So you grew up with a stepfather
05:49Kind of raising you
05:50So that generation was very different
05:52Like our parents
05:54I mean, that's why I did a deep dive with Joe Jackson in that way
05:57I thought, oh, you know, he's a blue-collar worker
05:59He worked in a steel mill
06:00And I was like, wait, where can I find that in my own life?
06:02And I looked at my own stepfather
06:03Who was a blue-collar
06:04You know, he sanded hardwood floors
06:07I worked with him for like, you know, three summers
06:10Between 12 and like 15
06:11I actually got fired from that job
06:13Not that I was bad
06:15Not that I was bad
06:16But it was actually a good reason
06:17He was like, oh, you don't want to do this work
06:19It's back-breaking work
06:19You know, I'm standing on these floors
06:21But I'm like, yeah, but you make everything so beautiful
06:22I mean, look at these floors
06:23They're beautiful
06:24Yeah
06:24And somebody has to do that
06:25Yeah
06:25But he was like, you know what?
06:26I don't want you to do this back-breaking work
06:28Because he only had a seventh-grade education
06:29Because he had to just go to work
06:31Yeah
06:31And he said, I want you to use your mind
06:33And I don't want you to have these hard calluses
06:35I want you to have soft hands
06:36Yeah, he was working so hard
06:37So you can have an opportunity for maybe something different
06:39That was a generation
06:40And that's where I tapped into
06:41I'm like, maybe Joe was a part of those guys
06:43He wasn't soft and warm and fuzzy
06:45Neither was my stepfather
06:46He grew up in a different world
06:46Exactly
06:47They depended on the wife to do the nurturing
06:50And have the softness
06:51But I always look back now
06:53And I'm like, oh man, he was tough on me
06:54But he was doing everything he could
06:56To make sure that I was a good citizen
06:58I had a good education
07:00And I was a man of my word
07:01And had a great work ethic
07:02And so I look back and I'm like
07:03Yeah, he was a tough dude
07:04But I appreciate him
07:06Because he made me the man who I am
07:07Yeah, respecting the opportunities
07:09Yeah
07:09Yeah, that are afforded from all their hard work as well
07:11Absolutely
07:11Absolutely
07:12All right, we need to get to a couple commercials
07:13As always, let's have someone in the audience help us out
07:16Hi, Kelly and Coleman
07:17I'm Ian
07:18Coleman, you're the ultimate multi-hyphenate
07:21Actor, director, fashion icon, and playwright
07:25I love all your work
07:26But especially when you play real people
07:28Like Rustin, Divine G, or Joe Jackson
07:31There's real power when true stories and art come together
07:34And no one does it better than you
07:37Stay here
07:38Kelly has more with Coleman after this
07:47I'm arranging a tour in a live album
07:53Well, how are we going to tour without Jermaine?
07:55Your brother made his choice when we left Motown and he stayed
07:58Let him live with it
08:00The point is, we need to capitalize on Michael's album
08:05So, we're going to do a bunch of songs
08:06Joseph
08:08I...
08:09I...
08:10I need to think
08:12No, sir
08:13I told you what to think
08:15We are back with Coleman Domingo
08:18That was a look at his new friend, Michael
08:20In which he plays Michael Jackson's father, Joseph
08:22It's only one of three projects Coleman has out soon
08:25Because he likes to work
08:27But I do want to talk about this
08:28Because y'all cover many decades in this
08:30So, there's a lot of retro fashion
08:33Was there one you loved most?
08:34You know what?
08:35I like the, um, let's see, for the Jacksons
08:37I love sort of the, um, the Victory Tour Jacksons
08:40Because that's when they were, like, really, like
08:42They were hot and sexy
08:43And weren't, you know, everything was, like, you know
08:45Parachute pants
08:46And off to the side
08:47I remember suddenly they were, like, wait, what?
08:49What are they doing?
08:49Yeah
08:50Um, you know
08:50Somebody got a paycheck
08:51Yes, it's like
08:52It's like when we all get money
08:53And we're, like, I can do better
08:54For Joe Jackson
08:55I like when he moved into his Jericho season
08:57Yeah
08:57Because it was wet
08:58Why not?
08:59He had a wet curl
09:00He had a wet curl
09:01Lots of jewelry
09:02And he always wore, like, an earring
09:03Yeah
09:03He sort of looked like, you know, like a little, like
09:05Yeah
09:06Like, I don't know, I don't want to say it
09:11You know
09:11That makes us want to hear it more
09:13Yeah, a bit of a gangsta, a bit of a G
09:15Yeah
09:15You know, because he would wear, like
09:16Because he would wear, like, a nice pinky ring
09:17Yeah
09:18And, like, pendants and stuff like that
09:20He was just a player
09:20You know, if I see a grown man wearing a pinky ring
09:23I'm like, that's a confident man
09:24That's a confident man
09:25It's a confident man
09:26Pinky rings are very confident
09:27Pinky rings are, yeah
09:27And they're making a comeback
09:28I've seen two pinky rings in one week
09:30I have seen pinky rings on this show
09:31And I'm like, you know what?
09:32You are comfortable in your skin
09:34Yeah
09:34That's a sign
09:36Exactly
09:36Which I'm down, I'm down for
09:37You're also one of the other projects
09:39You're back with Euphoria
09:40Yeah
09:40It's been four years?
09:41Four years
09:42Oh, what's it like?
09:43It feels good
09:43Just getting back in
09:44Like riding a bike?
09:45Back in the kitchen with Zendaya
09:46It was fantastic
09:47Yeah
09:47Most of my scenes were with her
09:48And it's great
09:48And I think this season
09:49Really is a season about faith
09:51More than anything
09:51I think, you know
09:52It is a show about addiction
09:54And people struggling in many ways
09:56But I think ultimately
09:57It's about what people are trying to hold on to right now
09:59And why they're drawn to the darkness
10:01And stuff like that
10:01But ultimately it's about faith
10:03And believing in something bigger than yourself
10:05Yeah
10:05Do you
10:07I imagine you have to learn something
10:09From each character you play
10:10Good or bad, I guess
10:11But like
10:12Do you learn a lot from that character?
10:13I really do
10:14Ali is sort of the voice of reason
10:16And sort of the
10:17He's the audience's way in
10:19I think
10:19You know
10:20Because suddenly
10:20The world stops spinning so much
10:22When Ali's on camera
10:23Yeah
10:24Which is kind of cool
10:25So for me
10:25I learned a lot
10:26Like this dude
10:27You know he's done some terrible things
10:29Because he said he has
10:30Yeah
10:30But when he's presenting right now
10:32He's like
10:32No, I'm a pretty evolved human being
10:34And I'm trying to do good in the world
10:35But I feel
10:36For me
10:36Anything
10:36He's always going back to zero
10:39And saying
10:40No, just think about what you're doing
10:41Think about your choice
10:42Yeah, like the root
10:42Yeah, the root of it
10:43So I think that
10:44That's what I like about him
10:45And I feel like
10:45That's sort of helped me as well
10:46I sort of like
10:47I don't move fast really
10:49I'm very limber and all that
10:51But I'm like
10:51Yeah
10:51I sort of take my time
10:52And just like
10:53And be thoughtful about
10:54What am I saying?
10:55How am I saying it?
10:56How do it affect someone else?
10:57You're like a sexy R&B song
10:58That's me
10:59Yeah
10:59That's me
11:00You take your time
11:01You do it right
11:01Take your time
11:02You do it right
11:03I'm like a Barry White song
11:04Yes
11:04Like old school
11:05Exactly
11:07I love the compliment too
11:09Of like
11:09How fabulous would that be
11:11To be a person
11:12You come in a room
11:12And you slow down the chaos
11:14Yeah
11:14What an attribute
11:15I mean
11:15Listen
11:16In the earlier seasons
11:17They were young people
11:18High school students
11:19Having wild amounts of sex
11:21And chaotic situations
11:22And I would come in
11:23And be like
11:23Alright
11:23So what you doing?
11:24What you really doing?
11:25Yeah
11:25Why you wanna do it?
11:26The why
11:26I'm the why
11:27Yeah
11:27I love four seasons
11:29I actually just had
11:30Steve on
11:30I know he's not in the new one
11:32Honestly
11:32But yeah he did
11:33Had to go
11:33But unless it's gonna go
11:35Soap opera
11:35And it's like
11:36Oh he's not
11:37Exactly right
11:38Never know
11:38I love this project too
11:40You're a part of so many
11:41Amazing projects
11:41But what's great about
11:42Being back with the cast
11:43Of the four seasons
11:44Oh man
11:44It's just fun
11:44It's lighthearted
11:45It's something I feel like
11:46We all need right now
11:47It's just really a show
11:48About platonic
11:49It's lighthearted
11:49But you approach
11:50Real messages
11:51Yeah
11:51But it's still very light though
11:53But it's about all sorts
11:54Of kind of love as well
11:55Yeah
11:55So I feel like
11:56Especially right now
11:57With so much chaos
11:57Happening in the world
11:58You just wanna go
11:59With a group of friends
11:59We're gonna go to a new location
12:01And we're gonna have
12:01These really interesting
12:02Comedy of eras
12:04With each other
12:04And that's what
12:05And I love
12:06You're working with like
12:07People who operate
12:08At the highest level of comedy
12:09Tina Fey
12:10You know what I mean
12:10Carrie Kinney Silver
12:11Yeah
12:12Yeah
12:12Marco Cavani
12:13It's fantastic
12:14I know
12:14I just met
12:15Carrie Kinney Silver
12:16I met her here
12:17She was with Pink
12:18Yeah
12:18When she was
12:18And I was so excited
12:20I played it cool
12:21But I was so excited
12:22Because I love four seasons
12:23I love everybody on it
12:24And I think it's just such
12:25She does such a great job
12:26Carrie is incredible
12:26I played it really cool
12:27She's incredible
12:28Yeah
12:29She's one of those
12:30What I love about
12:30We're all actors
12:31Who and comedians
12:32Who know how to really operate
12:34Under with deep pain
12:36And pathos
12:37And also know
12:38Have comedy chops
12:39I think that's why
12:40I don't need to dive
12:41You know deep
12:41On people I love
12:43Because I know
12:43We all had some kind
12:44Of traumatic
12:45Happen
12:45Absolutely
12:46So you know
12:46That's why we're sitting here
12:47I already know it happened
12:48I don't need to
12:49Something happened to us
12:50I know something was there
12:51You know
12:52Exactly
12:52I want to talk about this
12:53Because I thought
12:53This was incredible
12:54And you did such a great job
12:55And Sabrina Carpenter's video
12:57Tears
12:57Oh yeah
12:57Yes
12:58You know what I'm writing
13:03I like
13:05Crocs
13:06Look
13:06It's like
13:07The world is different
13:08Like you don't
13:08The industry doesn't
13:10It's just
13:10It doesn't run and operate
13:12Behind the scenes
13:12Or it used to
13:13Whenever I entered the industry
13:13This is like
13:14One of those old school
13:15Like videos
13:15It's an old school
13:16That you're pulling
13:17The actors in
13:17It's like a whole
13:19Storytelling
13:19How fun was that?
13:20Sabrina invited me
13:20To do it
13:21And she said
13:21I want to play with you
13:22I have this idea
13:23Of this sort of
13:24Rocky horror world
13:25And I was like
13:25Bring it
13:26And she was like
13:26Is it okay
13:27If we put you in drag
13:27I said
13:28Put me in all the drag
13:29Yeah
13:29I said
13:30How many outfits do you want?
13:32Music videos
13:32Are where you can play like that
13:33Yeah yeah yeah
13:34You can play like that
13:34We played until 4 in the morning
13:35But of course
13:36Listen
13:37At about 3.30 in the morning
13:38They wanted me to get back
13:39In 6 inch heels
13:40And I was like
13:40I'm going to pass on that
13:42Yeah
13:42So there's one scene
13:43That always tickles me
13:44Because we're coming out
13:45This big dance break
13:46And if you really look
13:47I'm wearing flat man shoes
13:49Yeah
13:49I was like
13:50I'm that drag queen
13:51That takes off
13:52At like 3.30
13:53Yeah you said 4 a.m.
13:55And I was like
13:55We are different
13:56Yeah exactly
13:57I'm like
13:57We're going to have to rap
13:58Before
13:58I have like rules now
14:00I'm in my 40s
14:01And I'm like
14:01Oh no no
14:02We got to be rap
14:03When is your cut off of rap?
14:04No I'm going to be real with you
14:05I will not go past 11
14:06And usually I want to go
14:08And I'll start earlier
14:09Because I'm older
14:10Right
14:10I'm like that Denny
14:11I'm getting moons over my hammy
14:12At Denny's
14:13You know what I'm saying
14:13I'm getting some kind of special
14:14I'm coming in
14:15I'm coming in hot
14:16At 6 p.m. for dinner
14:17I'm like
14:19Because no one's there
14:20It's not so loud
14:21I can actually hear
14:22Who I'm talking to
14:23At some point
14:24It makes sense
14:24I love a 5.30 reservation
14:26I literally
14:26They're like
14:27When do you want to go to dinner
14:28My band and I
14:28And I'm like
14:29When does it open?
14:31That's it
14:31At 5.30
14:32I'll be there
14:33I'm in bed by 8.30
14:34Yes
14:34I'm not
14:34I just
14:35I'm not about that life anymore
14:36I got kids too
14:37So it's like
14:38I don't have time for that
14:39Isn't it surprising though
14:39You're like
14:40You're about that life now
14:41And I love it
14:42It's good
14:43I don't feel old
14:44I feel experienced
14:44Amen
14:46Yeah
14:47I've had enough experience
14:49To go
14:49No
14:51No
14:51And I'm like
14:52We can do better
14:53Alright
14:53We need to take a break
14:54The new season of Euphoria
14:56Is out now on HBO Max
14:58And you can catch Michael
14:59In theaters tomorrow
15:01We've got
15:02I'm getting older man
15:03We've got more
15:04With Coleman Domingo
15:04To come
15:05Stay here
15:16Welcome back
15:17Coleman Domingo
15:18Is hanging with us
15:19We all have
15:21Random photos
15:23On our phones
15:23Some that might not be
15:25Great
15:25But still remind us
15:26Of some great moments
15:28Rather
15:28It's time to flip though
15:29Through some of Coleman's
15:30Own pics
15:31And get some
15:32Behind the stories
15:33Behind them
15:33Here we go
15:33This is called
15:34Photo Dump
15:41That is a nasty band
15:43They are so good
15:44Nasty
15:45I know
15:45And you know what's funny
15:47Is no one
15:48We didn't actually know
15:48We were doing this
15:49Until like right before
15:49The show
15:50So they just like
15:51Were like
15:51Sure got it
15:52Yeah
15:54It's amazing
15:55Okay
15:56Well Coleman has provided
15:57Some never before posted photos
15:59And he's going to walk us
16:00Through what was going on
16:02In his life
16:02When he took these
16:03So here's the first photo
16:04What do we got
16:05What was going on
16:05Is that Tina Fey
16:07That is Tina Fey
16:08Ladies and gentlemen
16:09Yeah the comedic legend
16:11Tina Fey
16:11And that's her
16:13Laying in a bed
16:14And it's a stunt
16:16And it's a stunt
16:16That will happen
16:17At some point
16:18Well I won't tell you
16:18What happens with the stunt
16:19Before seasons
16:20But there's a stunt
16:21But I love that
16:22There's all these hands
16:22Everyone's very concerned
16:24About Tina Fey in this bed
16:25And she's laying there
16:26But she's happy
16:26Yet she looks like
16:27She's in a coffin
16:28Yeah
16:28So I like that picture
16:29Yeah I'm like
16:30What is happening
16:31Why did it go in
16:32Like that
16:32Yes
16:33That should not be
16:34That's not a good thing
16:34Look at that pure joy
16:35In her face
16:35Pure joy
16:37Next photo
16:39Oh now look at that
16:40That is me as Joe Jackson
16:43And that is my
16:45What a transformation
16:45My makeup artist Jamie
16:46I don't know what
16:48What we're doing
16:49In that picture
16:49We're just looking off
16:50To the side
16:50It looks like one of those
16:5180s superimposed
16:52Yeah
16:52Shots
16:53But then what I love
16:54Very hollow
16:55Is that there's pins
16:56From Jamie's makeup bag
16:58Of Jamie as the coolest
16:5919 year old
17:01With the sunglasses on
17:02There's a
17:03She makes all these pins
17:04For people
17:05She made a pin of me
17:06From the Sabrina Carpenter
17:07Video
17:07That is so 90s
17:09Yeah very 90s
17:09And then she calls herself
17:11In her group
17:11The Domingue Hose
17:13The Domingue Hose
17:14And she actually made pins
17:16So she will give them out
17:17To anyone
17:18Yes
17:19And it's always something
17:20That sort of horrifies me
17:21Yet I'm delighted
17:22Yes
17:24It's a compliment
17:25Yeah I think
17:25Do I want my fans
17:26To be called the Domingue Hose
17:28Yes you do
17:28I do
17:29Fine
17:30Okay fine
17:30It's a fun name
17:31It's a
17:32Yeah
17:32I just thought it was
17:33Just the weirdest photo ever
17:34And I'm like
17:34Why does that exist
17:35No I'm just saying
17:36That's like marketing genius
17:37That should be your merch
17:38There we go
17:39That's your merch
17:39There's my merch
17:40Yeah
17:40Exactly
17:40Look she's setting you up
17:42I also just
17:43The transformation right now
17:45You look incredible
17:47That took two and a half hours
17:48A day
17:49But we got it cut down
17:50To 90 minutes a day
17:51Because they're rock stars
17:52Bill Corso designed it
17:53And then Moe and Jamie
17:56They applied every day
17:58And it was fantastic
17:58That has to help you
17:59And people are so amazing
18:01At what they do
18:01And they transform you like that
18:02And you come out
18:03And you feel like
18:04You feel different
18:05Really
18:06It is all these beautiful details
18:07Like the nose
18:08The brow
18:09All the things you wouldn't even think about
18:11To transform
18:12Has to help
18:12They did all of it
18:13It does
18:14All right
18:14Finally we got this one
18:16That is the love of my life
18:18That is Raul
18:18My husband
18:19Look at that smile
18:20And he's enjoying
18:21A delicious margarita
18:22That I made him
18:22Yeah
18:23Yeah because I used to
18:24I don't know if you know
18:25I used to be a bartender
18:26For like 15 years
18:26I did know
18:27You did know
18:28I did know
18:28And I can make a mean cocktail
18:29I heard
18:30And lately
18:30And I want to smile like this
18:32You want to smile
18:32Because you want to smile like that
18:33I want to smile like that
18:34Well how about that
18:35Should I make you a margarita
18:35I think you should make me a margarita
18:37Done
18:40I was like I want to smile
18:44Make me smile
18:44I'm going to make you smile
18:45Okay
18:46I'm going to make you smile
18:47Because
18:47All right
18:48It's been such a chilly
18:50Chilly winter
18:51Yeah warm it up
18:52And we're in spring now
18:53Warm it up
18:53And I'm going to warm it up
18:54And I'm going to get you to summer
18:55Right now
18:56We're going to make a margarita
18:56Okay
18:57You always got to just have an ice in here
18:58Ice it up
18:59Very simple you guys
19:00Because it's like fresh ingredients
19:01Here's tequila
19:02Already measured for two people
19:03Yeah
19:03Bam
19:04You know I use something delicious
19:05Like a Don Julio or something
19:07Yeah okay
19:07Here's what you want
19:08Yeah
19:08All right
19:08And then I'll use some agave
19:10Yeah
19:11And we'll just do it
19:11Make it a little sweet right
19:12Yeah
19:13It looks a little sweet
19:13Sweet it up
19:14I like it
19:15I mean I like it all right
19:16I can do everything that count
19:17I do things on
19:18I can do a four count
19:18I'm more concerned
19:19Of the amount of the alcohol
19:21You're like doubling up
19:22Get me there
19:23Okay let me get you there
19:23Exactly
19:25I got some Cointreau
19:26Make me a Domingo
19:29And I got some fresh lime juice
19:31Yeah
19:31And we'll just you know
19:33Usually I measure everything
19:34Yeah
19:34But I'm just doing it
19:35Just go by your heart
19:36By sight right now
19:36Yeah
19:37And instinct
19:37And how
19:38Yeah
19:38You're an instinct
19:39You're an actor
19:40How lovely you want to be right now
19:41I want to feel warm
19:42Now I'm going to shake this baby
19:43Shake it
19:44Shake it
19:45Shake it
19:45Shake it
19:46Shake it
19:46Shake it
19:46Shake it
19:46Shake it
19:46Shake it
19:50Okay
19:51And then
19:51Okay
19:51We're going to pour this baby
19:52Oh I'm very excited
19:53You need to pour it over ice
19:54But I like mine straight up
19:55Me too
19:56Because the ice melts and ruins it
19:57Yeah
19:57It's going to melt
19:58And it's going to get you
19:59Don't ruin the chemistry
19:59Yeah
20:00Exactly
20:00Yeah
20:01And then we're just going to toast
20:02Because you know what
20:03This toast is
20:04I want to toast you
20:06Because I have loved coming on this show
20:08Aww
20:12You have a crew member that comes here
20:13They're lovely
20:13You have people who are lovely
20:14Yeah
20:14They work hard
20:15You've done such a supreme job
20:17Thanks
20:18I have loved being on this show
20:19Thank you
20:20And I thank you
20:20Congratulations to you
20:21Thank you
20:22Alright
20:28Woo
20:28Woo
20:29Woo
20:30Woo
20:31Oh damn
20:32That's why he was smiling
20:35Yeah
20:35Exactly
20:36Y'all had a good night
20:37Alright everybody
20:38Give it up for Coleman Domingo
20:41The new season of Euphoria is out now on HBO Max
20:46And the movie Michael is in theater starting tomorrow
20:48Patrick Ball from The Pit is here next
20:49We'll be right back
20:50Hey
21:03Welcome back everybody
21:04Although our next guest mastered the stage
21:07With performances and plays like Hamlet
21:08And Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
21:10You probably know him best
21:11As a troubled but brilliant doctor
21:13On the insanely successful medical drama The Pit
21:15I love it
21:16The show has won pretty much every award out there
21:19Rightly so
21:20Season 2 just had its finale last week
21:23I'm not caught up
21:24I hope he doesn't run it
21:25You can see the whole thing now on HBO Max
21:28You know what I saw in rehab
21:31I saw a bunch of guys just like you
21:33The only difference is
21:35They've accepted that they need help
21:38I think you're afraid
21:39To admit that the mighty Dr. Rabinovich
21:41Isn't perfect
21:42Oh I never claimed to be perfect
21:45No
21:46But you expect it of yourself
21:48And it's not realistic man
21:51How can any of us live up to your standards
21:53If you can't even do it
21:56You need help
21:57Robbie
21:59You need help
22:01He's also making his Broadway debut right now
22:04And as you saw at the Hayes Theatre
22:05Please welcome Patrick Ball
22:29I'm so excited
22:31But don't run it for me
22:32Because I'm not caught up
22:32So don't tell me anything
22:33That will be a spoiler
22:34Okay
22:35Okay
22:35I'm in season 2
22:36I just don't want to
22:37Yeah
22:37I love it so much
22:39Did you realize
22:40When you first signed on
22:40For The Pit House
22:41Successful this was going to be
22:42I mean
22:43So many people love it
22:43Yeah
22:44No idea
22:44No idea
22:45This is my first TV show
22:46So I had really no
22:48No
22:48Wow
22:49This is your first TV show
22:51Yeah
22:51I had done one episode of Law and Order
22:55And then I
22:56And then The Pit
22:57And then The Pit
22:58So I had like no point of reference
22:59For how this was supposed to feel
23:01Well just so you know
23:02It's not normal to have
23:03Everyone loves this show
23:05That's not normal
23:05Usually actors that come are like
23:07You know
23:08They've been on things that
23:08This is like a great show to start with
23:11Yeah
23:12That's what I've been told
23:12Yeah
23:13That's what I've been told
23:14Yeah
23:14I'm like
23:14That's an amazing first job for that
23:17Yeah
23:17Because you love theater right
23:18I mean I spent the last like 15 years
23:21Pretty much doing exclusively theater
23:23Yeah
23:23And I thought that was going to be my life
23:25I have to say man
23:26You are so good in this
23:27It was
23:28It's such a great medical show
23:30I'm generally not
23:30I don't usually watch medical shows
23:32That's not usually my vibe
23:33But I watched it
23:35Because Noah came on
23:36And I was like
23:36Okay I'm respectful
23:37Obviously you watch the thing
23:38And I was like
23:39I was addicted
23:39I hated him
23:40I was like
23:41I could not stop watching it
23:42I wanted to
23:43It was so hard to not keep going
23:45It was like 2 a.m.
23:46And I was cursing Noah Wiley
23:48I was like
23:48I
23:48I was like
23:49I couldn't
23:50It's so addictive
23:51It's so cool
23:52How it shot too
23:53It shot like
23:54A shift
23:55Basically
23:56It's like one shift
23:57Do you
23:57This is what I find fascinating too
23:59You actors
24:00You're so lucky
24:01You get to learn
24:01From these brilliant people
24:02At the skills
24:03Whatever skill set you have
24:04That you're doing
24:05So do you all have
24:06Like real people on set
24:07Like all these like
24:08Things you're doing
24:09These medical scenarios
24:10You're doing
24:10Do you learn anything
24:11Oh yeah
24:12Oh yeah
24:12I mean we have
24:13Dr. Joe Sachs
24:14Who is our
24:14Like chief medical director
24:16He is a practicing
24:17ER physician
24:18He was also one of the
24:19Head writers on our show
24:20As well as on ER
24:21Yeah
24:21And so he has been
24:23Double dipping
24:23In actual healthcare work
24:26And television work
24:27For a very very long time
24:28And we got a whole team
24:30Of people that make sure
24:31That everything that we do
24:32Is as authentic as possible
24:34And that was a very
24:36Clear priority
24:37And a clear gesture
24:38Of the show
24:39From the beginning
24:39Was we wanted to make
24:41A medical show
24:43For people who work
24:44In the medical profession
24:46Because I think
24:46We've seen a lot
24:47Of these shows
24:48And you know
24:48I come from a family
24:49Of healthcare workers
24:50I was going to say
24:51Both your parents
24:51Are from that world
24:52Yeah my mom is
24:53A lifelong ER nurse
24:54My dad is a lifelong
24:55Paramedic
24:56And so it did not
24:57Occur to me
24:58Until really
24:59The show came along
25:00Just like
25:01How much they
25:03They kept from me
25:04In order to be present
25:06For me
25:07As parents
25:09And that sort of
25:10Compartmentalization
25:11Was something
25:12That was definitely
25:13My way into the show
25:16And into the character
25:18And you know
25:18To this day
25:19Some of the most
25:20Moving messages
25:21That I get
25:21I get messages
25:22From partners
25:23Of people
25:24That work in emergency rooms
25:26Across the country
25:27And they'll reach out
25:29And they'll write me
25:30A message
25:30And be like
25:31Hey
25:31I just want to say
25:32Thank you so much
25:33Because this show
25:34Has given me an insight
25:36Into
25:37It opens our eyes
25:38To what's actually
25:38Going on
25:39Yeah
25:39And it has brought
25:40My relationship together
25:41And I think
25:42Those are the messages
25:44That I've gotten
25:44That have really
25:45Really let me know
25:47That we're sort of
25:47On the right track
25:48Yeah
25:49You know
25:49Y'all do a great job
25:50It's so
25:51It's
25:52You're respectful
25:52Of the environment
25:53And it looks like
25:54You're respecting
25:54Of what they do
25:55And it's also
25:56Great storytelling
25:57And how it's done
25:58Like in one season
25:58It's really brilliant
26:00Before we go though
26:01You're in
26:01You're in another
26:02You're Broadway right
26:03So it's Becky Shaw
26:04Is it
26:04What's it about
26:05So it's
26:06Becky Shaw
26:07By Gina G and Fritos
26:09And it is
26:10A savage
26:11Dark comedy
26:12About relationships
26:13Love it
26:15Okay
26:16It's a classic
26:18Classic comedy set up
26:19Of blind date
26:20Four strangers walk in
26:21And their lives
26:22Are forever changed
26:24But it's heavy
26:26And it's deep
26:27And you know
26:27I think it's about love
26:29And it's about power
26:30And it's about class
26:30And it's about
26:32The question of you know
26:33Can love exist
26:35Without transaction
26:36No that's
26:37That's gotta be
26:38I always talk to actors too
26:40About how y'all
26:40Don't bring it home
26:41Man
26:41Like how you don't bring
26:42That kind of heaviness
26:43Home
26:43You know
26:44Doing it every night
26:45Especially on 30
26:45Y'all doing like
26:46It shows a week right
26:47Yeah
26:47That's a lot
26:48Are you good
26:49At compartmentalizing that
26:50I think
26:51I try to be
26:52I try to be
26:53Like over the course
26:54Of eight months
26:54Of filming the pit
26:56Like there is
26:57A cumulative effect
26:59That I am very
27:01Very grateful
27:01To my partner
27:02Alicia
27:03For going through
27:04It with me
27:04And being
27:05As generous
27:06And as patient
27:07As she is
27:09It's been a hell
27:10Of a roller coaster
27:11Over the last year
27:12Yeah
27:12And she has made
27:13That possible for me
27:14So I'm just
27:15Incredibly thankful
27:15Oh that's incredible
27:16To have a partner
27:17That gets it
27:17Yeah
27:17Yeah
27:18Oh understanding
27:19That's amazing
27:20Alright we have
27:21To stop and pay bills
27:22So
27:23Okay

27:56Perform at the top of the show
27:57She is a hugely talented
27:59Singer songwriter
27:59Who released her hit debut album
28:01Shea Butter Baby
28:02Back in 2019
28:03Before earning a Grammy nomination
28:05That same year
28:06Her latest album
28:07Vacancy is out now
28:08Wherever you buy music
28:09Please welcome back
28:11To the stage
28:11Ari Lennox
28:33I love this outfit
28:35You're so rock and roll
28:37Thank you so much
28:38Jeremy styled me
28:39Oh my god
28:40Great job
28:41I love that we have people
28:43That will do that
28:43Because I'm not stylish
28:44Me neither
28:45I look a mess often
28:46I know
28:47I look like a mom
28:48With a mom bun
28:49But anyway
28:50Do you remember though
28:51When I hear a voice like yours
28:52It feels so innate
28:53Like your runs
28:54Just your vibe
28:55Your flow
28:55How you carry yourself
28:56In a song
28:56It feels like you've been
28:57Doing this since you were so young
28:59Do you remember your first performance
29:00Oh yeah
29:01Thank you by the way
29:04In elementary school
29:05I had this lovely teacher
29:06Named Mr. Ring
29:07And he saw something in me
29:09He was my music teacher
29:11He saw something in me
29:13And he was like
29:15You know what
29:15I think I want to teach you
29:16The Star Spangled Banner
29:17And so he worked with me
29:19For maybe weeks
29:20And then I performed it
29:22At the assembly
29:23That's a rangy song
29:23Yeah
29:24Yeah at an assembly
29:25Yeah exactly
29:25A very hard song
29:26I would never try now
29:28But
29:28You should
29:29Oh my god
29:29You sound amazing at it
29:30It's daunting
29:31It is
29:32You know what it is
29:33I don't know if you've done this
29:34But I'm
29:34You always worry
29:35If you're acapella
29:36You're like
29:36Don't start too high
29:38Too high
29:38That's what I
29:39Exactly
29:39But wait
29:40But one time
29:41I started too low
29:42Because I was so worried
29:43About starting too high
29:44It was like my
29:45Tony Braxton version
29:46Of The Star Spangled Banner
29:47But that's beautiful
29:47No it's not
29:48When you're not
29:49Tony Braxton
29:49Come on
29:50Yes it is
29:51But your high register
29:52Is flawless
29:53So
29:54It's a rangy song though
29:55But you're very nice
29:56I heard that you were
29:57Kind of a wild child
29:59Were you
29:59I was a wild child
30:00I was a wallflower
30:01Really
30:01What was being wild like
30:02Oh well
30:03In preschool
30:04I used to eat ants
30:06What
30:06I don't know why
30:08Were they like
30:09Chocolate covered
30:09At least
30:10They weren't
30:10Well they were
30:12Dark brown
30:12But um
30:13But they kind of
30:15Had a spicy
30:17Lemony
30:17Citrus taste
30:19I love this
30:19I don't know why
30:20I did it
30:21I've always
30:22It's like pregnant women
30:23You know
30:23When we're pregnant
30:24You have weird things
30:25Like weird
30:26Like dirt will taste good
30:27It's weird
30:27But in preschool
30:28Why?
30:30I don't know
30:30You know
30:30I had a friend
30:31That liked glue
30:32Whoa
30:32Like she
30:33I know
30:33I don't know
30:34Where she's at right now
30:35But yeah
30:36But yeah
30:37You know how you did
30:38Play with the glue
30:38But then she'd eat it
30:40And I was like
30:40I don't know
30:41I used to taste it too
30:42Yeah
30:43I didn't do that
30:44And maybe that's why
30:45I um
30:46Yeah
30:46I act a mess sometimes
30:48It was the ants
30:48It was the glue
30:49Yeah
30:50All of that
30:50You know what I see that as though
30:51You're willing to try it
30:52Don't knock it till you try it
30:53I think you know what
30:54That's brave
30:55You're brave
30:56So wait
30:57Now you are
30:58I love this conversation
30:59Thank you
31:00We did not mean to go here
31:02But we did
31:02We have to
31:03So tell me about the new album
31:05Oh it's amazing
31:06It encompasses
31:08Just lots of soul
31:10It's called Vacancy
31:12So it's about that void
31:13That needs to be filled
31:14Whether romantic or platonic
31:16So yeah
31:17Yeah
31:18It's real freaky
31:19Yeah
31:20It's a little nasty
31:21Yeah but you're like
31:22That's okay though
31:23Thank you
31:24That's okay though
31:25Well there's billions of people
31:26In the world
31:26So like clearly
31:27Someone's having a lot of sex
31:29Yeah
31:29So
31:31I feel like our beat country
31:32Are nice cousins
31:32In the sense that like
31:33They're not afraid
31:34To get a little
31:35Not cheesy
31:36But go there like love wise
31:38And they're not afraid
31:38To like say what you really
31:39Want to say sometimes
31:40Exactly
31:41And I think that that's really nice
31:42It's raw and authentic
31:43And it's refreshing
31:44Me too
31:45Yeah
31:46Thank you
31:46Me too
31:46Yeah
31:47And especially when it's
31:48Paired with such a lovely tone
31:49Like yours
31:50But you sang
31:51Mobbin and DC earlier
31:52So why'd you choose that one?
31:54That's my baby
31:54It's the intro to the record
31:56To the album
31:57And I love Neal Soul
31:59I grew up listening to it
32:00I adore legends like
32:02Erykah Badu
32:03Oh
32:03Lettucey
32:04I love her
32:04Just phenomenal singers
32:06And so
32:06I just wanted to be true
32:08To myself
32:08On a beautiful beat
32:09And I wanted to shout out
32:11My city
32:11DC
32:12Love you DC
32:13Yeah
32:14Man
32:15How you sing
32:16I love how you sing too
32:17I know because
32:18You're an actress as well
32:19I love watching singers
32:20That are also actors
32:21Like you're on stage
32:22And it's like
32:23You're telling the story
32:24With every part of your soul
32:25And your physical being
32:26It's really beautiful to watch
32:28I appreciate that
32:28Congratulations
32:29On all the success
32:30We have to take a quick break
32:31Ari's album is called
32:33Vacancy
32:33And the single is
32:34Mobbin and DC
32:35Both are available
32:35Wherever you buy your music
32:37And you can catch her
32:37On tour right now
32:39Go online for tickets
32:40Nothing is better than
32:41Seeing and feeling
32:42Something live in person
32:43We'll be right back
33:03We're back
33:04And Fall Out has been
33:06One of Prime Video's
33:07Most successful series to date
33:09The post-apocalyptic dramedy
33:10Features Kyle MacLachlan
33:12Who's no stranger
33:12To surreal projects
33:14He came by a couple months ago
33:15Along with his co-star
33:17Aaron Moten
33:17And I had to know why
33:19And how
33:19He got a very specific nickname
33:21It's a part of the interview
33:22We couldn't actually fit
33:23In our original episode
33:24So you're welcome in advance
33:25We're sharing it now
33:27Is it true
33:28Younger people nickname you
33:30Baby girl
33:30On like
33:31On social media
33:32Of course
33:33Why do they call you baby girl
33:35Well it's slang
33:37It's Gen Z slang
33:38It means really that
33:39At this moment
33:40You're sort of the
33:40Center of attention
33:42You know how a baby
33:42Baby is always
33:43Baby girl
33:45So yeah I had to learn that
33:46Okay
33:47When I first
33:47When I first heard it
33:49I was like
33:50I'm in trouble
33:51I've done something wrong here
33:53But then I came
33:54I came to understand
33:55And I evolved
33:57Yeah
33:57My Gen Z brain evolved
33:59Yeah
33:59And now I am able
34:00To speak Gen Z
34:00I can't wait to introduce you
34:03Next time you're on this show
34:04And go give it up
34:04For baby girl
34:05Yay
34:10You walk out
34:11And people are like
34:12What?
34:13Hell I wasn't expecting that
34:14So wait
34:15I'm going to come back
34:15To wine
34:16Because you started with wine
34:17You were really into wine
34:18So were you
34:18Yeah
34:19Right
34:19You have your own wine
34:20Right
34:20Yeah I make wine
34:21Yeah yeah yeah
34:22Pursued by Bear
34:22I make Pursued by Bear
34:23Yeah
34:23But we share a passion for it
34:25Yes
34:25Yeah
34:26We share a passion for this
34:28You
34:28Aaron has a knowledge
34:30Of wine that's much broader
34:31And deeper than mine
34:32And he really understands
34:33Old world really really well
34:35I'm kind of
34:36I'm a New World guy
34:37I'm sort of like
34:37That's a New World
34:38You know California
34:38Oregon Washington
34:40But that's what I don't know
34:41So we are very good
34:42Go to a restaurant together with us
34:44You're going to drink well
34:45Yeah
34:45Whether it's New World
34:46Or Old World
34:46I really do prefer
34:48European and French
34:50Yeah
34:50Yeah
34:51Yeah
34:51I like how they make it
34:52I went on a tour
34:53You ever do the things
34:54And you tour
34:55It's not just like the thing
34:56When they
34:57Not just the tasting
34:57Yeah they take you behind
34:59That is the cool thing sometimes
35:00When you're in the limelight
35:01They're like
35:01You want to do this fancy thing
35:02I'm like
35:02I sure do
35:04And they take you
35:05And I love how they make it
35:07Because I don't have a headache
35:08When I drink French wine
35:09No
35:09Yeah
35:10Yeah
35:10It'll treat you well
35:11I know
35:12You wake up
35:12It's like a French lover
35:14Yeah
35:14Yeah
35:15Yeah
35:16What's your favorite?
35:17What's your favorite kind?
35:18Meursault
35:19Meursault might be my favorite
35:20It's a white burgundy
35:22Okay
35:22I mean Meursault
35:23You got to know
35:23It's all Chardonnay
35:24Okay
35:25But like they name it off of the place
35:27I don't know what you're talking about
35:28Like that
35:28Yeah they name them
35:30After the little villages
35:31They come from
35:31And they're usually combining
35:33Grapes together
35:34So you know
35:35Meursault, Charms
35:36It's like two different towns
35:38Yeah
35:38Being put together
35:39Yeah I'm learning
35:40When did you get into wine?
35:42Oh uh COVID
35:46I was like
35:50What do I do with all this time?
35:52I should probably drink
35:53I should probably drink
35:55No I actually
35:56I was living in Iceland
35:57My wife is from Iceland
35:58That's cool
35:59Yeah
35:59So I spent five years in Iceland
36:01And that's how we also have three daughters
36:03Yeah
36:07What do we do with all this time?
36:10You know what?
36:10You're productive
36:11That's what I like to see
36:12Yes
36:13We were productive
36:13But now it was
36:15You know
36:15You have a smaller selection in Iceland
36:17So I actually went in one day
36:19And I was like
36:19I think I could drink all of this
36:22Challenge accepted
36:23To put all this away
36:25A big thank you to Kyle and Erin
36:27And you can see all episodes of Fallout streaming on Prime Video
36:30We'll be right back with What I'm Liking
36:46Alright let's finish up with one last fun story
36:49This is what I'm liking
36:53A California professor always thought it would be best to pursue a traditional career
36:57So he studied communications and sociology
36:59He now teaches at two different colleges
37:02Recently though he returned to a hobby on the side
37:05A surprising juxtaposition to his professional life
37:07Check it out
37:08Shake, shake, shake, shake it
37:10Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
37:14Shake it, shake it
37:16Don't break it
37:17Money to make, I'ma make it
37:20So damn real, can't fake it
37:22So bold, so blatant
37:24Grab so hard on the pavement
37:30his videos are here on social media with millions of views across all platforms and we have him on
37:36the line right now let's say hi to professor tuan uh watching on nbc los angeles what's up
37:41oh my god hi kelly
37:46you are why i love watching dancers man you are in you're just in your best moment you're so
37:53comfortable in your skin your tongue plays such a character in what you're doing oh man dance has
37:58always been a passion for you right yeah um i've always loved performing since i was a kid
38:04and then when i was a community college student at chafee college which is where i currently teach
38:09as well i was like let's give dancing a try yeah but then when i you know uh pursue graduate
38:16school
38:17i just thought to myself like i wasn't going to be able to manage dancing and grad studies and so
38:23after seven years of dance training i just stopped well fast forward to almost 10 years later
38:30i you know gained a little weight from grad school and covet 19 pandemic and just felt out of shape
38:36and was like how do i get active again and get back in shape and i was like dance like
38:41go back to
38:42dancing and so i signed up for a hip-hop dance class early last year in 2025 and what started
38:49as
38:50one class turned into five to ten classes per week and then now i teach during the day and then
38:56in the
38:56evening from 6 to 10 p.m i'm just dancing my life away at a couple of different dance studios
39:02i love it
39:03i gotta ask what are the kids in your class saying like do they see this uh i haven't told
39:09them yet
39:09uh although once they watch this uh they're gonna find out but i have formal students from a couple
39:17of years back when i was like a teaching assistant and just getting started they've come across my
39:21content and they've been pretty surprised seeing me yeah oh yeah i mean but we'll see how the current
39:28design i love the i mean i can't even imagine being your student and seeing you all like prim and
39:36proper and then like finding this at night on the internet about like that that would be incredible
39:43and also just way to live your best life man just like feeling good in your body and wanting to
39:49work
39:50out but do something you love to get that extra weight off that's amazing it's a good thing thank you
39:54so much twan i'm liking your post right now but that's not all our season-long partner pilot pin
