00:17It's mad to think that the mosque is under the water.
00:19I had the exact same thought. I spent too much time with you.
00:24I love it.
00:27After a 4,500km race through Europe to the south-east of Turquia,
00:34now just four teams remain.
00:37Last, like, back in mind, we were, like, elimination, elimination,
00:39so it's nice for her to go forward and not have to worry.
00:42When I just thought it wasn't us last, it was just...
00:44To be honest, it was just pure, really.
00:46That's the thing, even Pooze and Ross, like...
00:48It's just heartbreaking seeing them go. Yeah, it really does show anything can happen.
00:54Siblings Katie and Harrison are in front for the third time,
00:58but their lead has diminished to under ten hours.
01:02After opening that book and seeing Harrison plays first,
01:04their time was a surprise, now they're only half a day ahead.
01:06Maybe they'll take their foot off the gas a little bit.
01:08We've got through the elimination, and now that's out of the way,
01:11our new goal is getting to Mongolia and getting that first place.
01:15I do think we are slowly creeping up on him. Yeah, yeah.
01:17Now we've got first in our head. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:19It's not don't be last, it's be first.
01:21Well, we started fourth, and then we came third, now we're second.
01:25So there's only one place to go.
01:26We've got to go to number one spot. Yeah.
01:28Myself and Mark, we are so lined up, ready.
01:31Sorry, guys.
01:32We've got all our ducks in a row. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:34We all want to be first, don't we?
01:36Someone will have to displace Katie and Harrison and...
01:38What do you mean someone? Someone. Us two. Us two.
01:44As three teams wait to depart...
01:47Right, shall we get going?
01:49..first to set off, race leaders Katie and Harrison.
01:54This is for you. Perfect. Thank you so much.
01:57Shall we see where we're going?
02:00Tbilis, yes! I don't know how to say it.
02:02But it's where I wanted to go. It's Georgia.
02:03I was, I so wanted to go there. Yeah.
02:06I'm so happy. Thank you very much.
02:08Cheers, thank you. Cheers, thank you.
02:09Oh, that's so good.
02:11New country, about to be unlocked.
02:18God, there is nothing here. Yeah.
02:21It's dead. Yeah.
02:24But at nearly midnight, the progress stalls immediately.
02:28We're not getting out tonight,
02:30unless you're going to spend ridiculous money on a taxi.
02:33Nope.
02:34We're off to a bad start.
02:37Do you have a room for two people for tonight?
02:41Yeah.
02:44Race starts tomorrow.
03:00New day, new chapter of the race.
03:02Yeah.
03:03Let's hit it.
03:05Not getting out of our party last night means we no longer have a ten-hour leave.
03:10But I think as long as we keep them in relative touching distance, I'll be happy enough.
03:13I'm actually well-bossed with going to Georgia.
03:15Why did you want to go?
03:16It's just a bit rogue, isn't it?
03:18A 1,700-kilometre journey to Georgia's capital, the fourth checkpoint, Tbilisi.
03:28Meaning warm place.
03:30Legend has it that King Vaktang Gorgasali founded the city after his falcon fell into a hot spring, revealing the
03:40area's natural thermal waters.
03:43Today, those sulphur baths still steam, set against a backdrop of modern, futuristic architecture.
03:53Uh, Shan...
03:54Shanlorfa?
03:55Okay.
03:55We got it, yeah?
03:57Let's have it.
03:59Finally on the road, Katie and Harrison are heading to the closest transport hub, Shanlorfa.
04:05Shall we have a look at the map and see where we're going and what we've got to do?
04:08We could go all the way to the edge of Turkey and then up.
04:13But nothing's there.
04:14Yeah.
04:15Or we could go straight up from where we are to the coast.
04:19To reach Tbilisi, teams may choose to hug the Black Sea coast, a popular route for domestic tourists.
04:27But the winding coastal roads could slow progress.
04:31Or they could opt to stay inland, striking a direct route through Turkey's arid heartland.
04:39Rich in Kurdish culture, but with fewer connections.
04:44Both routes converge at the Georgian border as they navigate new terrain towards the capital.
04:52I feel like along the Black Sea you can see a lot more transport routes.
04:56Samsung looks like a pretty big city.
04:59Yeah.
04:59It would be great to do some homestays.
05:02It'd be good to actually, like, integrate the local people a bit more.
05:06We haven't spent too much time with the locals so far.
05:10I am looking forward to it. I'm obviously nervous, you know, it's not a natural thing,
05:15but I do think we'll get most out of it.
05:18I'm really excited.
05:19Homestays scare me.
05:20It's just going to be awkward.
05:22But it's something we need to do in terms of, like, putting me out of my comfort zone.
05:26Yeah.
05:26And maybe, like, I'll enjoy it.
05:29Planning to sample their first homestay of the race,
05:32the siblings aim to head north towards the well-connected coast.
05:38Samsung.
05:39Two.
05:40Brilliant.
05:41We booked an overnight bus tonight, travelling the whole legs of Turkey in one night,
05:47and then we can get straight to our homestay tomorrow.
05:50But there's nothing we can do until then.
05:53So, yeah.
05:54We just have to wait here most of the day.
06:02It's bringing your step today, Mark.
06:04Next to leave Halfeti.
06:06The elimination's out of the way.
06:08The shackles are off.
06:10Hypnotherapist Margo and her brother-in-law, Mark.
06:13We need to get all the way across northeast of Turkey.
06:17The direct route north, up towards the Black Sea coast,
06:20is probably going to be better connected and faster.
06:22I do fancy that route.
06:25I think going east is my preferred option.
06:29And I'd like to see a little bit of more rural Turkey heading towards Van.
06:35You know, we used to have two Van cats, Arnie and Keebs.
06:38Beautiful and cuddly.
06:40They had odd eyes.
06:41Very unique cats.
06:42Seeing that Van is here, I'd like to go see where they came from.
06:49No, I like the sound of that.
06:51Yeah.
06:51I do like the sound of that.
06:53He's kind of bewitched me with talk of Van.
06:56I think he's hypnotised me a bit to want to go there.
07:00Because I just went, yes, I'd like to go there.
07:02An adventure.
07:03It's an adventure.
07:04It is an adventure.
07:05Into the unknown.
07:06We've got it in us to catch up with Katie and Harrison.
07:09Whether it's a good move or not in the race, we are heading to Van.
07:13Let's do it.
07:14Let's go.
07:15Mark's feline friendly plan, make a 660km punt east to Lake Van.
07:21Do you think we can catch Katie and Harrison and do this route at the same time?
07:25I've got a good feeling about it.
07:26A really good feeling about it.
07:29Straight to the bus station.
07:31Yeah.
07:31Just 38 minutes behind.
07:34We did really good last leg.
07:35Yeah.
07:36Best friends Joe and Kush.
07:38Just like, kind of moving away from not carrying out the budget to start to bump it up again.
07:43So honestly, any work we can get our hands on, we can do.
07:47Yeah.
07:48After spending big to stay in the race, the boys are beginning the leg with nearly 10% less than
07:54their competitors.
07:55Last leg, we did everything to not be eliminated and not included.
07:58A pretty hefty taxi.
07:59Now we've got budget concerns, so we need to make money.
08:03We need to find the city busy, please.
08:05Yeah.
08:05We just need to get on the bus first.
08:09People that are behind us are going to catch up with us.
08:11So I expect the boys to appear any minute.
08:14All concertina together.
08:15Yeah.
08:16Here are the boys.
08:17How are you?
08:19Good.
08:20How are you?
08:20You look well rested.
08:21Do you know where you're going now?
08:22Yeah.
08:23You got a plan?
08:24Have you got a plan?
08:24Yeah.
08:25We have a plan, yeah.
08:26Are we allowed to know where you're heading to?
08:28I don't know.
08:29I don't know.
08:31We're heading to Vam to see the test.
08:33We're going to Vam.
08:34They're trying to probe a bunch.
08:35They're trying to get informationals.
08:37Yeah.
08:38Margot's job is to read people.
08:39They're going to copy our strategy, our planning, so we're going to have to keep more hush.
08:45I think the boys are on fire, though.
08:47They've got something to prove to themselves.
08:49To get first place.
08:50I think they'd love to get first place.
08:52Yeah.
08:52The boys are being very shady about where they're going.
08:56Very, like, and I think they're going to race as if their life depends upon it.
09:02See you boys.
09:03We'll see you guys soon.
09:04Take care.
09:04We might have to up our game.
09:06See you boys.
09:07Good luck.
09:08Good luck.
09:10Can we sit down here?
09:11We can look at the map, all right?
09:12Aye.
09:12We'll do.
09:13OK.
09:14Woo-hoo!
09:15Last to depart.
09:16I think the obvious route at the moment is to go up and across northern Turkey.
09:21Andrew and his daughter Molly.
09:23And we could go and see the gods on Mount Nemro trip.
09:26But I'd like to kind of meet more people, learn about their culture.
09:29That's what I wanted to do on this trip.
09:32But we had a beautiful time at Mount Olympus.
09:34And maybe the gods have looked on us, and maybe we need to go and kind of thank the gods
09:38for allowing us to get through to the next stage.
09:41But I don't want to take over here now.
09:43Yeah, I know.
09:43All right?
09:44What do you think?
09:47It would be amazing.
09:48I'm telling you.
09:49I love it.
09:49OK.
09:50I'm excited.
09:51I know you're excited.
09:53I know.
09:55A bit annoyed in the route we've taken.
09:57The whole point of this trip is taking on culture, seeing people, but he's so excited.
10:03So I've had to say yes.
10:05Feeling the pull of a summit once again,
10:08Andrew plots a course for Mount Nemrut, just three hours' drive away,
10:12before heading inland through eastern Turkey.
10:16Molly, I'm thinking eastern Turkey.
10:18Yeah.
10:18But it's all very direct, going to Georgia.
10:21So this might actually pay off and get us back in the race.
10:24I'm confident it's going to be a good route to see what we want to see,
10:27but also quick enough routes because we need to move up the table a bit.
10:30So it's rather than being fought.
10:31If we can get experience and a bit of speed as well, what more can we ask?
10:39Yeah.
10:40Mardin name me?
10:41Yes.
10:42Where are you from?
10:43England.
10:45England.
10:45England.
10:46Yeah.
10:47Your name?
10:48France.
10:49France.
10:49France.
10:50Also heading east.
10:51Here you go.
10:52What a sign, guy.
10:53Joe and Kush have answered an ad in the jobs directory
10:56and are on their way to the city of Mardin.
10:59We've got our work sorted.
11:01But I think we should start speaking to people about accommodation.
11:06Do you know any very cheap hotel or hostel in Mardin?
11:15Yeah.
11:22You can stay with him.
11:24In Mardin?
11:26Yeah.
11:28Bro.
11:31Don't you think we can stay at his house?
11:32What?
11:33It's the Skull's charm, I'm telling you.
11:35It's the smell.
11:36Nowhere to stay.
11:37People have gone out of their way to give.
11:39We're not tourists here.
11:40We feel like guests.
11:41We've got free accommodation, so we're making money.
11:44We are going to get first, please.
11:49The only team heading to the coast...
11:52Is this the longest motor transport we've done so far?
11:55Yes.
11:55Katie and Harrison are still waiting for their 14-hour overnight bus.
12:00Before I go on the bus, I really need to moisturise my elbows.
12:05Wash my face now before I go on there.
12:07Maybe brush my teeth before I go on there.
12:09And then I'm going to put some leggings on
12:12so that I can properly relax and get comfortable if it gets cold as well.
12:16I'm going to plait my hair so it doesn't get knotty.
12:20Yeah.
12:20This is my bag.
12:21Yeah.
12:25Blanket.
12:25Well, you're disgusting, aren't you?
12:27Sorted.
12:27You need to take better care of yourself, you scruff.
12:30Sorted.
12:30No wonder you don't get any women.
12:32You're minga.
12:35Well, this bus looks class.
12:37It looks nice, doesn't it?
12:38Yeah, it looks class.
12:40Better.
12:41I agree.
12:42Better already.
12:43I've got my eye mask.
12:45I've got my pink hair plugs.
12:47Good night.
12:52That's a view.
12:54Godday!
12:56Just 20 kilometres from the Syrian border, Marden's stone houses cling to the hillside overlooking
13:04the vast Mesopotamian plain.
13:07Aw, thank you.
13:08The boys have arranged to stay with new friend Furat and his family.
13:13Your name?
13:14Baba.
13:15Baba?
13:16Yes.
13:16John.
13:17I'm dead.
13:18Dead?
13:19Dead.
13:20Aw, father.
13:20Yeah.
13:21I can't lie, I didn't expect any of this.
13:23Start a conversation on this bus.
13:26Next minute, we're in his house.
13:28Woo!
13:29Oh!
13:30It's a big thing inviting strangers to your house.
13:33What's this?
13:34Yolk.
13:35It's yogurt.
13:36Peanut.
13:37Juice?
13:38Yes.
13:39Egg.
13:43Nice.
13:45Don't be shy.
13:47Eat until you're full.
13:48He knows.
13:50He knows.
13:51He knows.
13:52He's been very kind to us.
13:54We've just had dinner with him.
13:55He's let us have a shower.
13:57He's laid these beds out for us.
13:59That does mean a lot.
14:01Free food, accommodation.
14:03We're trying to take every opportunity we can get to save money.
14:14Quarter to six in the morning.
14:16Nice time to be out.
14:18You're alone in your thoughts.
14:20It's stunning, isn't it?
14:21It's like the stairway to heaven.
14:23Well, look at the colour there.
14:24It is fab.
14:25Isn't it?
14:29High in the Taurus Mountains, Andrew and Molly have reached Mount Nemrut.
14:35Look at that.
14:36That is amazing.
14:37Wow.
14:38Beautiful, isn't it?
14:38That's exceptional.
14:40Impressive.
14:43Here, 10-metre stone gods stand vigil, built more than 2,000 years ago by King Antiochus I.
14:51Believing himself divine, he demanded a tomb among the gods.
14:55A monument that still gazes out across Comagene, the ancient kingdom he once ruled.
15:03Very cool.
15:05Daddy, look at them.
15:07Where's he going?
15:08That just sums us up.
15:10I'm looking at the human geography and he's looking at the physical geography.
15:13Molly.
15:14Come here, look.
15:15You come here.
15:16You can really see the crater rim as it makes us the whole way around.
15:22But that's what created all those lakes, blocked out.
15:25Mm-hmm.
15:26Because it doesn't seem to be any rivers or anything.
15:28But you can see, obviously, the lakes have all been blocked.
15:31Daddy.
15:32Do you know what?
15:32I do love a hike and I do love a pretty sky.
15:36And I'll make the most of it when I'm here, but I also just love a bit of crack.
15:40I do think at the moment that we're missing talking to people, chatting to people, dancing
15:46with people.
15:47I just, I love meeting people.
15:48Uh-huh.
15:49During this trip, I'd love to kind of see, like, I don't know, a bit of life for you,
15:54a bit of party.
15:55Yeah, I know.
15:56But I love, you know, I love getting up in the morning.
15:58A bit of solitude, a bit of quiet time, just to see the sun rising.
16:01This is right up my street.
16:05Look at the clouds.
16:06That is crazy.
16:07The clouds are just stunning.
16:10For me, the race is about proving to Daddy that I am capable.
16:15Yeah, I'm a junior doctor, but Daddy's very much top dog and he'd be the main influencer
16:20on the trip and, like, there's no pretending that kind of daddy-daughter dynamic.
16:25Like, that doesn't matter.
16:26But I think we do need to break this default of, like, everything Daddy says is 100% perfect
16:33and correct and what I say is maybe not fully trustable.
16:37There's the sun now.
16:38Yeah.
16:39Here she comes.
16:40It's beautiful.
16:41I would love for Daddy to get what he wants out of this race, but I would also very much
16:46like him to know that my opinion is also very much there to be respected.
16:52Wow.
16:55That was amazing.
16:58Did you get your fix?
16:59I did.
17:00There's a visitor centre down at the bottom, so might be able to have a look through that.
17:04I think we need to move on.
17:23So much dust.
17:25Joe and Kush press ahead with their budget building mission.
17:28cleaning rooms at a hotel in Mardin.
17:31Look at that, lad. That view.
17:34That's Syria.
17:35I wouldn't have guessed that.
17:39900 kilometres north-west,
17:42the drive has been pretty stunning, hasn't it?
17:44Very stunning.
17:45On the left, there's the Black Sea.
17:47On the right, there's been, like, these huge green mountains.
17:53Joining the coastal highway,
17:55Katie and Harrison are approaching Samson.
17:58I'm so excited. It's a vanilla cake as well.
18:02Check, John.
18:03All the Turkish box.
18:07You and your revolving doors.
18:08I love revolving doors.
18:09I know you do.
18:10Mark and Margot have made it to Van
18:13and are now the team closest to the checkpoint.
18:17Ardahan.
18:18And from Ardahan, I think that would give us a crossing across the border.
18:22Yeah.
18:23845 tomorrow.
18:241,400 each.
18:252,800.
18:26It's just nice to have this sorted, though.
18:28Isn't it, Mark?
18:29Yeah.
18:30Cheers.
18:31Seeing as we've done it now, we're here.
18:33There's no bus till tomorrow.
18:35Perhaps we could see if there's anything lively happening.
18:45Look at that.
18:48My cat looks similar to that.
18:50It was orange and white.
18:52Native to the shores of Turquia's largest lake,
18:56Van cats are famed for their striking eyes,
18:59their water-resistant fur,
19:01and an unusual love of swimming.
19:05This is a lake van.
19:07That's it.
19:08Huge, isn't it?
19:10There's a Turkish van cat in sight.
19:12We haven't seen one, have we?
19:13No.
19:13Oh, is that a cat over there?
19:15That ball was ours.
19:17Yeah, it's a baby, I think.
19:18Oh, it's a baby.
19:19There was a cat!
19:25In northern Turquia, near the Black Sea...
19:28Marhaba, Harrison.
19:29Marhaba, Esat.
19:30Esat, Harrison.
19:31Katie.
19:32Katie.
19:34He looks like he could pick us up.
19:35I'll do whatever he tells me to do.
19:38Katie and Harrison have reached their homestay
19:41on the outskirts of the city.
19:44Treehouse.
19:45Oh, nice.
19:46Oh, my God.
19:47Oh, this is so cute.
19:49Like I'm in a little film when they're going to stay in the cabin.
19:53These get murdered in them,
19:54but I'm hoping it's not those vibes.
20:01This is exactly what I thought we'd be doing, to be honest.
20:05I'm quite happy to be doing it.
20:07The siblings are working as labourers for cattle farmer Esat.
20:11We've always helped around the house,
20:13especially when we lived with Mum and she wasn't as well.
20:18Maybe we did more than other kids.
20:22Yeah.
20:23I'm definitely not scared to get my hands dirty.
20:25If Dad wanted a mucky job helper,
20:29it'd definitely be me over Harrison.
20:33It would be.
20:34Come on, now.
20:35You've always been the princess.
20:37I wouldn't say princess.
20:38You have.
20:39I'm just not very...
20:39You hate a smell.
20:40You hate things getting on your fingers.
20:42You hate, like...
20:44Come on, now.
20:45That's fine.
20:47I wouldn't say princess.
20:48Oh.
20:48Oh, she's just broken.
20:50She looks like...
20:52What?
20:52I might just be hungry.
20:53It looks like baklava.
20:55I don't know.
20:57You've heard of chicken.
20:59Chicken?
21:00Chicken.
21:01Feed the chicken.
21:01Okay.
21:05Esat speaks as much English as I speak Turkish.
21:09Dinlenecek misiniz?
21:10Istirahat.
21:11Uh, chicken is a...
21:12Chicken?
21:13Istirahat.
21:14Evet.
21:14OK.
21:16Are the chickens asleep?
21:18Asleep.
21:18Dinner will be an interesting one.
21:20I'll just make lots of mmm, yummy noises, I reckon,
21:23and just sort of laugh and smile and nod along,
21:25and just try and be as appreciative as I can.

27:12it's actually going across half of turkey
27:16speeding along the coastal highway towards hopper hello do you speak english
27:23can we come and stay with you tonight
27:27yes your house yes okay following the success of their first home stay
27:44we need to go to the autogar autogar the bus station in tatfan in southeast turkia continuing their
27:52journey from mountain em root andrew and molly still have 550 kilometers to reach georgia
27:58we need to go much faster than this i know i know plan a yeah let's get as close as
28:04we can tonight
28:05yeah to the border because as soon as i think if you get across the border
28:09he should be able to get a bus to the police quite quickly all right kid
28:16we should be in georgia by tonight what do you reckon hopefully yes you should be yes
28:21already closing in on the crossing mark and margot snip snip snip i'm gonna cut your map
28:27yeah we're not because of my map i think we should cut the map and just leave the bits that
28:31we need
28:31if the map is badly folded it's no reflection on you as the person mark
28:36close behind it's so beautiful beautiful fresh off an overnight bus joe and kush have stopped just
28:43short of the border in susus look at this wow what's going on in this oh this is sick
28:51huh what's this from my meal it's like grandma's house turkish grandma's protecting their budget
28:57once again they're staying with adel and his wife beren helping to care for their flock of over 100
29:04free-range geese we come from liverpool liverpool football match football yeah football oh
29:11uh uh
29:25so many stumped oh yeah
29:30raised on open pasture the region's cool climate creates the ideal environment to rear the birds
29:37look like this look like this look like this look like this look like this look like this
29:40prized across turkia for their high nutritional value and succulent texture yeah it is quite a change
29:48coming to the east side of turkey when i think of turkey you think like our holiday destination
29:55busy people very touristy place but i don't think we expected this whole experience
30:02like that was birds that were doing flips that's mad i wish our pigeons did this like this isn't the
30:09type of thing you'll see in liverpool you know i think this is the geese shit some things in life
30:14that have to be done yeah me and jari we're happy as they were what they need us to do
30:19we came here
30:21for work and in return a bed it's pretty much sums up our plan on this leg to save money
30:29i swear some of these are trying to square up i definitely could put this on my cv i shoveled
30:37bird
30:37poop one of the jobs we've done hotel hospitality waiters geese yeah my cv is going to be so thick
30:48we have both finished our educations we've got our grades and now it's a case of whether we want to
30:53work or university apprenticeships anything and this is the perfect opportunity to think about the
31:00future this is sick coming to the middle of nowhere no this is heavy this i hope this experience will
31:08broaden my vision and open my eyes see what i may want to do but also discover what i
31:18maybe don't want to do joe which is heavier a kilogram of geese shit or just kilogram of chicken
31:23shit they're both a kilogram what do you mean our trick question what are we are both going to
31:32experience so many different cultures different kinds of people different attitudes to life
31:37i just clocked and we're taking the geese for the water oh we actually are taking the geese for a
31:41walk
31:42this race it's a lifetime of exploring in such a short amount of time i think it's going to open
31:47up a lot of doors that not many people have the privilege to unlock that is adorable
31:59i was supposed to get him back
32:05this is hopper fantastic at the eastern edge of the black sea shoreline katie and harrison have
32:12arrived in hopper where they've arranged a homestay at a nearby tea farm but first let's go let's go
32:20they look to book onward transport towards the checkpoint for tomorrow
32:25yeah with bus yeah tomorrow no no no buses tomorrow doesn't not no no bus tomorrow no
32:40we just have to wait till the day after
32:45can we book not tomorrow but the morning after perfect thank you thank you
32:54with no choice but to stay in hopper for two nights the risk falling a full day behind in the
33:00race
33:01it's not ideal it's rubbish it's pretty terrible it's okay it's not okay
33:09the transports are not the best in the world for the timings so we're just stuck and feel helpless
33:16and there's nothing we can really do about that maybe other teams are finding it just as hard as
33:21well um or at least that's what i'm telling myself karma karma don't it's karma karma i don't throw myself
33:29in the black sea
33:34we are going to tbilisi what's the best way to get to tbilisi cars cars how do we get to
33:40cars
33:41yeah okay perfect thank you trailing behind andrew and molly have reached the transport hub of tatvan
33:49were you trying to go to cars tonight no bus no bus is there anywhere else around here
33:56no no buses are anywhere tonight no nobody seems to run buses at night time
34:02how can we get to tbilisi yes yeah yeah yes it's not can we get a bus can we get
34:09a train can we get a
34:11bike tomorrow bus yes when is that bus at 8 30 in the morning yeah thank you i'll take your
34:21bag
34:22we're a bit stuck there seems to be no buses tonight but there is a bus to ezerum tomorrow morning
34:29why is there no buses molly i can't answer that question petal
34:34if we are in ezerum tomorrow okay would we get a bus from ezerum to tbilisi every horse you can
34:41go to tbilisi daddy he's speaking for him he's not giving us independent information
34:55i'm just i'm a bit frustrated at the minute because daddy is not listening to me at all and he's
35:00telling me to shush which is really annoying me so it's okay but at the same time i'm always dirty
35:08myself so i don't know so what do you want to do i don't know i don't i don't know
35:15i'm not really
35:17sure what to do i actually have no gut instinct it's a bit annoying i normally have something telling me
35:22so i'm kind of thinking a full day behind is what we're looking at if we stay tonight
35:29it's a choice between budget and getting there we could pay 7 000 for a taxi or 2 400 get
35:36a hotel
35:36here i think i'm just tired and i really mean that i just think what do we need more at
35:42this moment in
35:42time pet a bed a bit of tension tonight between the two of us daddy just kept telling me to
35:52shh and i
35:53find it really difficult when you you are just as good at getting information but you're kind of
35:58put in the back burner so i was struggling and it got a wee bit tense for a moment stress
36:04levels are
36:04up oh jeez oh i've never felt it tired in my life
36:22good breakfast man we could definitely get to checkpoint today we could actually be fighting
36:26for first i do now we moved fast too i think that we've got a very good chance
36:34we've got it straight back into race mode it's got to get straight back into the game
36:39hopefully we're going to be a couple hours ahead from the other teams fingers crossed we've kept
36:43moving we've had good transport connections so far touch wood let's go we're going to posse
36:48they're directs to tbilis getting the first bus the second bus and check week boom boom the boys plan
36:56take a minibus to posse off and cross the border already on georgian soil mark and margot
37:09mark let me in but just 200 kilometers shy of the checkpoint the progress is put on hold
37:16how are you feeling i'm not for you too pretty much they made no okay you're the priority
37:21even if we lose like you know hours exactly no no there's no point in me sitting in the hotel
37:26while ill is that so you're getting out yeah i've got to get out and experience this place do you
37:31want
37:31sitting money with you yes i might feel better so we draw these curtains for you let you have a
37:37little more rest all right take care
37:43came here mainly al katsiki for mark but now it's going to be margot's day
37:48i am sorry mark's sick disappointing in race terms and i do fear we're going to be trailing in fourth
37:55place
37:56not a lot we can do about it so i'm not going to get upset about it i'm just going
38:00to eat some
38:01dumplings and drink some wine because if you can't do anything about it you've just got to live your
38:04best life absolutely gorgeous castle looks amazing in a valley surrounded by the mesgeti mountains
38:14akal tziki watching over the city the 1 100 year old fortress its walls sheltering a mosque church and a
38:24synagogue it's the castle called akaziki which means newcastle newcastle in georgia look at this
38:33mark would just be beyond himself with boy scouted excitement if he was here
38:40i'm feeling pretty ropey this morning i had tt troubles all night tummy trouble so i haven't slept at
38:47all it is frustrating i would have loved to get to tbilisi this evening
38:52uh i don't think that's going to happen but um we wait and see if i can recover
39:00oh it's nice i like this one i like that one i think this is my favorite
39:07okay i said i'll finish these off yeah okay thank you georgian wine tasting we've got going here
39:15i'm not really sure mark would be pleased that i'm spending money on why
39:18but i hope he'll be okay with this he'll be glad that i'm happy anyway so um oh no now
39:25i'm getting
39:25guilt okay he's gonna be i don't know what he's gonna say when i get back amazing these are huge
39:38um homemade cognac cheers i could drink a lot more of that the truth is out 10 pounds so that
39:48is an
39:49absolute steal i think i have done fabulously part of coming on the race was like running away from real
39:59life and just enjoy myself and just be me for a change and just go let rip you know i
40:07love doing
40:07different things and i love doing new things all the time and experiences and excitement when i had
40:12my children it was like no you have to kind of you know you've got this work to be done
40:16it can be
40:17joyful work but it's a slog i never planned to have the life i had i never planned to be
40:24a mum and settle
40:25into suburban lifestyle and it kind of it kind of happened but um the chance to do this was like
40:34to step back into that time of mischief in my my real life there's just so many different
40:42pulls on my time and responsibilities but here they're gone
41:00i don't know what it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's a bug
41:05190 kilometers west still in turquia katie and harrison are repaying their bed and board
41:16by helping farmer harun with his family business
41:20yes very nice nice nice nice so this is all your tea tea your brother tea brother brother tea
41:29yeah me tea is that tea up there cousin cousin cousin cousin beautiful color everybody
41:37cousin then you sell business yeah money okay yeah okay very good very good
41:46this is a pretty special landscape it's probably the most breathtaking like landscape i've ever seen
41:56hopper's lush forested mountains lie within turquia's prime tea growing region
42:02along the eastern black sea coast
42:06introduced in 1918 by botanist aliriza erten tea has since become central to the local economy
42:16i've always wanted to um see places like this i know a lot of my friends have gone city farms
42:23have they i think i was a bit gutted when i didn't get to go traveling
42:28the year after sixth form did you really want to go yeah god yeah oh why didn't you go i
42:38think mum was at
42:39her worst then i just couldn't leave mum for an extended period of time yeah just wouldn't have
42:47wanted to go just in case anything bad happened yeah we'd want to be around yeah
42:54mum's doing a lot better now but i think we've cared for mum for the last 10 years on and
42:59off
43:00it's interesting like the phrase cared for mum because
43:03doesn't everyone care for their mum but maybe we did it a little bit more intensely
43:08washing cooking on the really bad days it would be like helping dresser and things like that really
43:15i think it was a time of a lot of hospital visits visits yeah appointments emergency visits so yeah
43:26mum became ill um it was after the separation with dad
43:31it started with the fibromyalgia yeah chronic fatigue slipped disc in her back that last two years
43:40there is nothing you can do if she's screaming out in pain and there's nothing you can do apart
43:44from hold a hand i remember you felt like a pressure to push the doctor keep asking questions
43:51about but what can we do like like in 18 19 i'm not the most confident now i definitely wasn't
43:57there
43:58and i just i just couldn't the bit that took a toll on me was just constantly seeing her in
44:05pain
44:08like that just broke me like and knowing there's just nothing you can do and nothing
44:14no one else can do but just sit there and watch her in so much pain probably the emotional side
44:22of
44:22it took more of a toll on you yeah my use was more practical maybe i think i actually took
44:31on more
44:32emotion like emotional responsibility despite me being younger yeah yeah because that was what you
44:39were good at yeah or better out than me i have a slight feeling of guilt towards how much katie
44:53cared
44:53for mum looking back what i wanted to do at that point was spend all every hour on the day
44:59on my xbox or
45:01or with my mates playing football so i think i would be a little bit selfish in terms of prioritise
45:07what i
45:07want to do but then when you hear about how much katie took on from that then maybe i feel
45:12a little bit
45:12more guilty in the fact that i didn't take as much as the emotional weight as katie did
45:19i think i would have liked to have talked to her some more about the emotional side because
45:28i think that took a big toll on me growing up and to be able to talk to him about
45:35that would have
45:35been nice just to be able to share that and not like have it by myself so maybe that's a
45:43good place
45:44to start whilst we're racing take a cup of tea yeah lower cup of tea
45:54bus station bus station yes yes let's get going fingers crossed we can get on a coach and get to
46:03checkpoint tonight you will make it mark oh i don't know i hope we do with mark back on his
46:11feet the in-laws
46:12restart their push to the checkpoint looks all closed up doesn't it easy 6 20 in the morning
46:22so there's nothing to be easy till tomorrow so we could go to bed now get up tomorrow and get
46:29that bus
46:29or how much would a cab cost no idea at all but it how much would you know a bed
46:35for the night cost
46:36we'd save it on a bed wouldn't we it would be yeah if it's gonna cost it's a balancing act
46:40isn't it
46:40how much is a taxi to tiblesi 200 200 larry how much is that a lot it's 57 quid how
46:49long three hours
46:50three hours yes yes 10 o'clock we get in we're going to do it's up to you it's it's
47:00budget versus speed
47:06hello we're trying to go to tiblesi 330 kilometers behind and trailing in last place
47:13andrew and molly have made it to erzerum and are still looking for a bus to the checkpoint
47:18go direct to bc if we can no first between hopper hopper to tiblesi direct what time will we arrive
47:27five hours later you are arrived to hopper is five hours away five hours and then after the
47:33hopper seven o'clock at night no choice molly thank you cheers i'm a bit nervous we originally
47:42planned to go through the middle of turkey um avoiding the coastal route but what's actually
47:47happened is we've ended up doing coastal route a bit backwards and probably a bit arseways it's a bit
47:52annoying that we've had to go all over the place but it is what it is with no direct bus
47:57to tiblesi
47:58they've booked a 240 kilometer detour via the coastal town of hopper i don't know i'm not sure
48:07if this is a good decision what do you think i think better is to ask hello could you help
48:15me is
48:16hopper the quickest route to tiblesi no no no no don't go to hopper don't go to hopper
48:24is it at 9 30 is tiblesi okay perfect thank you the bus driver has said yes better to get
48:35off
48:35recently at rizzi yeah and then from rizzi there's a straight bus to tiblesi tonight tonight okay kid
48:43trust you hope and pray now
48:48molly's new plan make up time by getting off early in rizzi and catch an overnight bus direct to the
48:55checkpoint rizzi okay right come on this could be a major risk tiblesi yes tonight tonight tonight
49:14we got off a stop early bus driver on the bus kind of gave us an indication that there was
49:18buses
49:19but you know the language barrier you can't trust anything until you actually physically have a
49:23ticket but i have a ticket that says to please see so that's what i care about i don't kid
49:28oh daddy's very
49:30much a daddy he takes the lead but um every now and again i step in you ready three two
49:36one oh
49:40as a parent you realize that time goes very very quickly when they go from that age to the age
49:48she
49:48is at the minute that time flies there's a point where you have to let them grow up and be
49:56who she
49:56is going to be in this in this world it's hard uh letting molly take control because i mean all
50:04daddies want to be needed yeah but it is very difficult as a father so it's it's a work in
50:09progress and i am struggling with that big kick oh wow but we're making great memories on this trip so
50:15that's that's what this is all about tiblesi here we come
50:21taxi to tiblesi thank you let's go what you think's worth it i think it's worth it having
50:30caught a minibus to cross into georgia joe and cush spend their earnings on a 230 kilometer taxi ride
50:37straight to tiblesi go fast hey here we go here we go yeah i think this was a good decision
50:46yeah yeah
50:46we'll get there today and i just think the guarantee is worth it over spending that extra bit of money
50:53to be fair we have saved a lot this leg yeah whoa tiblesi here we come yes how fast was
51:04that then
51:04just ahead mark and margot have also opted for speed over budget we're doing what we have to do
51:12to get to checkpoint as fast as possible yeah this time we had to get a taxi didn't we i
51:17think we've
51:17lost too much time otherwise yeah i don't think we're that far behind everyone to be honest staying in
51:22the game staying in the game the vibrant heart of georgia tiblesi its architecture as diverse as
