00:00Surprised Caleb Downs being the fourth Buckeye off the board.
00:03Buckeyes have four in the top 11.
00:05They wanted that top 10.
00:06It didn't seem like the Giants would go back-to-back defensive picks
00:10after they were able to snag Arvel Reese.
00:13But Caleb Downs, Dallas flopping with Miami to go up and get him.
00:19Surprised that they made that jump
00:22and then the fact that he was still available at that point.
00:25No, I mean, we talked about it on last week's show
00:28that I thought Caleb Downs was the safest pick in this year's draft.
00:32Now you put him in the most glamorous market in the NFL.
00:37So he goes to Dallas.
00:39He's a great trade-up by Jerry Jones to go get him, first of all,
00:42because you get an immediate impact player,
00:45I think a guy that could be a Pro Bowl caliber player there right away.
00:49And they need it.
00:50I mean, Dallas finished 30th in total defense last season.
00:54They were one of the worst defensive teams in the league.
00:56It seemed like they would score.
00:57Somebody would score on them.
00:58They played a lot of exciting football games.
01:01And now you bring in the highest IQ safety, a guy that was awesome.
01:05I enjoyed the back and forth between Nick Saban and Ryan Day
01:08when they were talking about Caleb Downs.
01:11That was awesome.
01:12And so there you go.
01:14He played at two of the best NFL football factories.
01:19And now he goes to the ultimate, the star.
01:22I mean, I just pictured him with a Cowboys uniform as soon as it happened.
01:26And I'm like, oh my gosh, what a great trade for Jerry Jones.
01:29What a great move for Dallas.
01:31They add a second pick with Malachi Lawrence from UCF.
01:35So they are certainly addressing that area of need.
01:37Of the four Buckeyes selected in the top 11,
01:41he's a guy that definitely will be right in there in positions to succeed.
01:46I think all four of them are.
01:48I'm a little surprised Caleb fell out of the top 10, but that's okay.
01:52Yeah.
01:52I mean, I'd have a better time finding the Holy Grail than a safer pick in Caleb
01:56Downs, if I'm going to be honest.
01:57But just a very responsible pick from Jerry Jones.
02:01You really like to see it,
02:02especially just with all the need that they had on defense.
02:04You would have loved to have them have, I mean,
02:07two to three first round picks in order to kind of just fill all those holes.
02:10But Bobby, I know you were grinning just ear to ear whenever you saw that happen.
02:14I mean, to have Caleb Downs go to your team, come on now.
02:18Well, how excited Brian Schottenheimer was when you get that.
02:23One of my friends, Bill, called the Cowboys the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFC,
02:28where it's a race to 35 every game.
02:32And if you can get 38, you might win.
02:34But if you don't, you're probably going to lose.
02:36And so they help solidify that defense.
02:38And I think it's a great spot and a great selection for them.
