00:00the thing I can't stop thinking about with styles and the reason I am pro
00:04the pick so much is the scheme they're going to run.
00:06If this was last year's scheme and if Durante Jones was not here,
00:11then I would be in the category of love the player.
00:15Don't like the pick.
00:16Does that make sense?
00:16It does.
00:17Cause I'm not team take the linebacker,
00:19even the crazy athletic linebacker at seven.
00:22Typically.
00:22I just think that this Brian Flores defense that they're going to run the
00:29possibility of the athleticism of Chanel and styles with Louvoo,
00:34the types of games in the a gap,
00:36they're going to be able to run coming downhill,
00:38getting to the quarterback.
00:39It's going to elevate everything.
00:41They're going to be able to rush the passer.
00:43Even if a dafeo way doesn't deliver the goods,
00:45which I hope he will.
00:46Even if Caleb on chase on doesn't repeat last year with the Patriots,
00:50which I certainly hope he will.
00:52I think they're going to be able to generate pressure from the interior.
00:54I think when people talk about styles and TFLs or,
00:57you know,
00:58this number or that number,
00:59they want more of what you're going to see is him pinning his ears back
01:03and using his speed.
01:05Somebody earlier called in and said,
01:07tell me the thing he does really,
01:08really well.
01:08He closes like the,
01:10the occasional time where he's pass rushing and he's hunting down a
01:13quarterback or backside pursuit and some receiver running back on jet
01:17action and around or something like he's going to get you.
01:20You're not running away from him.
01:21That kind of thing is what I can't stop thinking about.
01:24And Louvoo is coming off of a down year.
01:26This is a contract year for him.
01:28Probably his last season.
01:29I would think to be honest with you in Washington,
01:31I can't see extending him at his age,
01:32but what is his strength?
01:34It's the same exact thing.
01:36So I just think all three of those guys are kind of tailor made for what
01:40the Vikings have been running.
01:41And if they run the same thing here,
01:43I think it's going to be hard to screw that up.
01:45At least that part of this defense.
01:47So I'm not as putting,
01:48and I think it's a smart point you make.
01:49I don't put as much weight necessarily on the scheme.
01:52I think it will be a good fit.
01:54To me,
01:54this is one of those,
01:55and maybe I'm too reactionary.
01:57We all know I'd make a terrible general manager.
01:59I'd make a terrible lot of things,
02:00to be honest with you.
02:00But I got so tired of watching,
02:03regardless of scheme,
02:05slow,
02:06plotting,
02:07vulnerable,
02:08easy access offense from my opponents,
02:10where everybody on my team couldn't keep up with anyone on their team.
02:14I didn't have a single answer in the bag that you found me someone that's
02:18really fast that can close on the football.
02:20Fine.
02:21You can do the most boring scheme,
02:23the most complicated scheme,
02:24the most aggressive scheme,
02:25the most passive scheme.
02:26Whatever you want to do is fine by me.
02:28I'm in.
02:28I'll subscribe to it.
02:30I want to see good or bad,
02:31but let the results play out.
02:32But the principle of,
02:33we just got a lot faster.
02:35We thought we could get away with a slow,
02:37plotting middle linebacker.
02:38We're not doing that anymore.
02:39That to me is kind of the,
02:41it may be too reactionary.
02:42It's like,
02:43if you had a bunch of,
02:44you know,
02:44we got a bunch of control and command pitchers.
02:46You know what?
02:47We need to strike people out.
02:48Bring me a hundred mile an hour fastballs.
02:50I don't care where they come from.
02:51And you go get 10 of those guys.
02:52It's a little bit reactionary for me,
02:53but that's what has me more excited than anything else.
02:55What was the number one complaint we took in 2025 on the phones,
03:00on social media,
03:02from commanders fans?
03:04They're so slow.
03:05They're so slow.
03:06And specifically their linebacking core and Bobby
03:09Wagner cannot run.
03:11I think if,
03:12you know,
03:12if there was some story done,
03:13ESPN does this,
03:14because they have a reporter in every market where they'll do number one
03:20player that has to step up and like 32 people do it.
03:22If the category was biggest complaint from your fan base,
03:25this football season,
03:26the answer in DC would be that their linebackers are slow and in turn,
03:32their defense can't run and isn't fast enough.
03:35And all they've done is go out and sign and draft two of the guys that in one
03:42fell swoop were the closest and best opportunities to fix that.
03:46So I'm not telling you that you have to love the decision to take a linebacker in
03:51a vacuum.
03:52I agree that that's not good practice,
03:54but that's not how I'd be viewing this.
03:58I'd be viewing this.
03:59Like when we talk about running back with Jeremiah Love,
04:02you're getting a weapon,
04:03potential game changer,
04:05someone who unlocks Jaden Daniels in the offense.
04:07You are hopefully allowing this defense to take on a completely different look.
04:13And you're adding a speed at a time where if your defense isn't fast,
04:17it's incapable.
04:18James is in Germantown listening on the fan.
04:22James,
04:22what's up?
04:23How are you?
04:24What's up guys.
04:25Thanks for taking my call.
04:27Hey,
04:27I was pretty happy about the choice.
04:29I'm not sure how anybody's surprised or disappointed with it because everything
04:34we did this off season and free agency was predicated upon allowing ourselves to
04:40take the,
04:40or to have the opportunity to choose the best player available.
04:44And we'll,
04:45and that's exactly what we did when we stepped up to the podium at number seven.
04:48I mean,
04:49you know,
04:50I,
04:50you know,
04:50if you're disappointed,
04:51you know,
04:52think about what Arizona is going through right now.
04:54They're poor offensive coordinator.
04:55He's,
04:56he's got to figure out how to get his 40 pack personnel package on the,
04:59on the field more than three times a game.
05:01Yeah.
05:02It's actually a really smart point that as we talked about all of last week,
05:08the free agent hall from Peters put everything on the table so that you don't have to necessarily
05:15move around the board to go get things.
05:16You can let things fall to you.
05:18And just when you're there,
05:19take the guy that's going to help you at a position of need that you think could be a star.
05:23The consensus best player available when they drafted was styles.
05:26That's the other thing.
05:27It's not like they got cute.
05:28It's not like they took Luke McCaffrey around before everybody thought they were going to,
05:34or Josh LaRibis who people had as a fifth round grade in the third round.
05:38They didn't draft Ty Simpson at 13.
05:40Right.
05:40Most of the draft experts we had on said this guy was going to go somewhere between two and five.
05:46They were sitting at seven and they got him.
05:49He was always viewed as the floor.
05:51He was never getting past Washington.
05:52That's what we heard start to finish.
05:54So I don't think anybody should have been surprised.
05:56They took him when he was there.
05:57The only element maybe of intrigue was that he actually fell to them.
06:01Let's go to Falls Church home with the Jaguars.
06:03That's where Mike is.
06:03What's up, Mike?
06:05Hey, guys.
06:06How you doing?
06:06Good, buddy.
06:07I love the pick.
06:09I have a quick comment and question.
06:11I'll get out of your way.
06:13The comment is,
06:17They need to hit on this pick tonight.
06:21He's got to be a starter from day one.
06:23And do you think that's realistic or not as far as how this draft has played out so far?
06:29Yes, I do, actually, depending on the position you draft a player at.
06:33So this is what's interesting about that, though.
06:36If it's vital that the player starts, that is different than getting the thing that you are crowbarring in.
06:43In other words, I'm demanding they draft a wide receiver.
06:46Now, I happen to think that the board's going to fall in a way where there's wide receiver value there.
06:51But if you can only draft a wide out, you're just isolating out every single position.
06:56So now we're zeroing in on this one spot.
06:58It gets harder to draft a starter.
07:01If the goal is draft a starter, well, you might have the third best center in America,
07:05the second best center in the draft looking right at you at 71.
07:08Plug and play.
07:09Maybe an upgrade over Allegretti.
07:11You might have a guard that can compete at left guard at 71 that you really like.
07:15I think there's a chance that corner, like wide receiver, could be a position based on last night, Danny,
07:20where a player or two slide that might be able to start in the nickel over Robertson,
07:26who they signed from the Detroit Lions and free agency.
07:29So those two things might be different.
07:31I am team.
07:32They have to get a weapon, which is different than team.
07:36They have to draft an immediate starter.
07:37Now, I happen to think that if the right receiver is there and they guess right,
07:42that guy should start with Terry McLaurin.
07:44He'll have a great opportunity to do so.
07:45Immediately.
07:46Yeah.
07:46I'm just going to give you a name because there are bunches of them that could be available.
07:50Right.
07:51But let's say Ted Hurst from Georgia State, 6-3, 2-0-6, ran a 4-4, is the pick
07:56at 71.
07:57If he is as good as I think he might be, then Terry McLaurin, Ted Hurst,
08:02and whoever wins the battle in the slot between McCaffrey and Lane are your receivers and 11 personnel.
08:08If they really like Skylar Bell from UConn, who's 97th percentile vertical and broad jump
08:13and 6 foot and a buck 90 and had a huge productive 100 catch, 1,200 yard year last year,
08:18started his college career at Wisconsin.
08:20They were to draft him at 71.
08:21Why can't he start opposite Terry McLaurin?
08:24Bryce Lance, NDSU, probably a little more of a project because his big games of 160 are coming
08:29against Southeast Missouri State, but he's 6-3, brother is an NFL quarterback.
08:33He runs a 4-3, huge, fast, a player like that.
08:38That could be a wide receiver 2 right away, but he's also maybe a little bit more of a project.
08:42If you go with like John Stribling or somebody like that, who might not be the wide receiver 2 right
08:49away,
08:50but he might be your deep threat that's a package guy in September.
08:54I don't think that's the wrong way to go, but if the previous caller is running the room
08:59and he's going, we have to get a starter, then that means you have to be open to a corner
09:03or an interior offensive lineman or an edge, you know, not for this team as a starter,
09:07but like the value might actually be.
09:08With the general principle, yeah.
09:08Like a D-tackle fell, who's the 29th best player on your board.
09:11And you could look at it in another way to say the same thing is,
09:15if you've got to get a starter, you may be sacrificing future upside.
09:18Right?
09:19You get a guy that goes, right now, okay, he's a pretty finished product.
09:21He's my center or he's my corner.
09:23He's my maybe even wide receiver 2 who's got 4 years of college experience is going to be pretty good
09:29versus a guy that may take a little bit of work, but you might look up in a couple years.
09:32And Hurst, for example, coming out of a small college could be a badass.
09:36Someone that's 6'4", 210 pounds.
09:38You might see something pretty special there, but you also might have to be patient for it
09:41and wait a little bit.
09:42But to me, this is one of those, my best view is receiver here at round 3
09:47to solve the need that I see is glaring.
09:49They still have the ability to do something else that I haven't thought of yet.
09:52There's still another round of free agency to come
09:54and a bunch of guys that we thought were going to get huge deals didn't.
09:57Maybe they've got a plan.
09:58My point is, however you guys want to do it, that's fine.
10:01Park this car right there.
10:03That's the parking spot where there's more than there is in the room right now
10:06at a pass-catching position for Jaden Daniels, please.
10:10Wherever you want to do it, that's fine.
10:11But if it doesn't happen tonight, I'm going, good luck solving it
10:14because the easiest way to do it to me right now, there's a little rope,
10:16I can just grab it, I can climb out.
10:18I would grab the rope and climb out because that's where I am.
10:20But if they don't do it, they better have a plan.
10:22Pick 7, Sonny Stiles.
10:23We're getting your reactions today.
10:24800-636-1067.
