00:00We got some mad folks. 216-474-0092. This is what happens when you only win eight games in two
00:08years and your head coach was let go, but your general manager is still there.
00:13And you're a draft-by-draft guy. And I think right now, judging by the response, I mean, this is
00:20an Andrew Barry referendum again for the fan base where, hey, you had a good draft last year, I don't
00:26think you've built any trust within the fan base.
00:29Well, but wait, everybody should admit trading from six to nine to get the guy they could have got at
00:33six. That was smart, right?
00:35I think a lot of people think that. Nobody thinks that's a bad move.
00:38And I'll tell you, in Kansas City, they're saying trading from nine to six to get the guy you could
00:42have got at nine was not a smart move.
00:45I mean, everybody's saying Washington was looking at defensive players, but still, if you go with the inverse of the
00:54two towns today, one of them thinks they did the smart thing and one of them doesn't.
00:58And it's the Browns that did the smart thing.
01:00Spencer Fano is not who some people are saying he is.
01:05Their comparison is wrong, and I will tell you why coming up at seven o'clock.
01:09I really like Spencer Fano.
01:12I'm just as – guys, I'm going to be just as nervous with Spencer Fano as I am with any
01:16guy who's switching from right to left or left to right.
01:19Because we're always behind.
01:21We're always going to go with our classic things that we know because we – we as humans – I'm
01:26not trying to get too deep here.
01:28We try to find comfort, and we like to stay in comfort.
01:32And there are certain things you're told about your sports and certain things you're told about important positions that we
01:38wrap ourselves up in,
01:39and we know that these things are supposed to be true.
01:41And when you're taking a guy who has been around the offensive line and you're switching him to one spot,
01:48and you've already done that before with somebody else, it is not going to be met with a lot of
01:53optimism.
01:54I can't talk anybody into being more optimistic.
01:57The only thing I can say is one major, major difference between Spencer Fano and everybody who's making that comparison,
02:05and I will make that major difference to you abundantly clear coming up at 7 o'clock.
02:10With KC Concepcion, nice kid, I'm holding my breath.
02:14Holding my breath.
02:16Because week one, he has a drop, and I'm just going to close my computer and just sit there and
02:21stare into the abyss
02:22because I know that people are going to be cussing out.
02:23I am not going to sit here and try to talk everybody into a guy who has great speed, a
02:31lot of talent,
02:32but also has had drops.
02:3519 drops, I think, is the number that was counted.
02:38He's had a lot of drops.
02:39There are the only thing I can do to talk—
02:42That does kind of fly right in your face.
02:44Exactly right.
02:44It's like, wow.
02:45And we're going to be watching a lot of Makai Lemon, and we're going to be wondering,
02:49if he does poorly, we're going to go, hey, maybe we dodged a bullet there.
02:53If he does really, really well, and the Browns aren't doing so well—
02:56I mean, if they both are great, then hey, what the hell, right?
02:58But if the Browns aren't doing so well and Makai Lemon's doing really well,
03:01that's going to go right against Andrew Barry.
03:03Is there anybody upset that they didn't take Caleb Downs?
03:07I'm sure there are.
03:08He's an Ohio State Buckeye.
03:09Why wouldn't they be?
03:10Just because they had done—
03:12The script all along was you had to address offensive line.
03:15You had to address wide receiver.
03:17But, you know, it gets kind of crazy right up until the draft.
03:20It's just not the overwhelming, prevailing thought.
03:21Yeah, go ahead.
03:21Well, it just kind of gets crazy before.
03:23It's like, well, could they take best player available?
03:26Well, Caleb Downs, there were times this year that people thought
03:29he was the best player in college football
03:31and had the best opportunity to transition into the NFL.
03:37So that's the only thing I wonder, obviously,
03:39hey, look, he fell all the way to number 11.
03:42And, of course, because it's the Cowboys, that's the steal of the draft.
03:47That's what everybody wants to say is that Jerry Jones got the steal of the draft.
03:55Like, how often do you get potentially the best player in a draft at number 11?
03:59He's a really good player.
04:01But, I mean, you've got to look at what was important to everybody.
04:05And I still think that that classically went down.
04:08You look at Spencer Fano.
04:09He was the first offensive lineman off the board.
04:12And then you look at a safety.
04:13Safeties are always going to be the conversation.
04:15Guards and safeties, it's always supposed to be.
04:18You're never supposed to take him very, very high.
04:20And so for him to fall to 11, where the Cowboys moved up one spot
04:23with the Dolphins, made that switch so they could go get him.
04:27I'm not surprised by that, by the Cowboys.
04:29And I'm also not surprised that he ended up falling out of the top 10
04:31because of those classic thoughts.
04:33Like, that is another thing that is going to be hard to talk ourselves out of.
04:36Like, these are different players, and this is going to be a different time.
04:39I want to take the temperature real quick,
04:40and I've got to ask you about the Cavs last night
04:43because I know we kind of had our eyes on both things going on last night
04:46over there in Berea.
04:47Kevin in Georgia, you're first up on the fan.
04:50Hello, Kevin.
04:51Hello.
04:53Well, I've been saying this for, what is it, five years now.
04:56Fire Andrew Barry.
04:58This team is very comfortable losing 11 to 12 games next year.
05:05They are not any better on offense.
05:08Spencer, or whatever his name is, Concepcion.
05:12What do we think?
05:12We got Tyreek Hill.
05:13We already got him on the team.
05:16His name is Isaiah Bonds.
05:17Fast guy drops the ball.
05:19We're no better.
05:21Andrew Barry sucks.
05:22John Dorsey, come back, please.
05:25Where the team was going in the right direction.
05:27We traded away Baker Mayfield.
05:30And now we are where we are.
05:32Have fun losing 11 games this year.
05:37Did he combine names of two different players that they drafted and throw them into one?
05:42No, I think he was just throwing them together.
05:43The lights have gone out in Georgia.
05:45Call them Spencer Concepcion.
05:48I think he was just putting them.
05:49I just don't think he likes either pick.
05:51I don't think that Kevin's a big fan of either one.
05:55I'm a likable kid.
05:56I'm nervous, man.
05:57I am nervous.
05:59I ain't gonna lie.
06:00Hope we're laughing about this someday.
06:02And not like in a cynical, I'm sick to my stomach, I just have to laugh it off type of
06:07laugh.
06:08I mean, like, hey, people were worried about the drops.
06:11People were worried about Jerry Rice's hands, too, his first year and back from college and everything.
06:16Like, that's what I'm just gonna hope.
06:18I gotta hope.
06:19Because if it were a first-year GM, there might be a little bit more leeway with this pick.
06:24It might be a little more, oh, okay, let's see where he's at on this.
06:28Last year's draft, exceptional from Andrew Barry.
06:31But you're hearing it from the fans.
06:35Like, it's very hard for me to just go out there and kill draft picks.
06:39I don't remember the last time I did it.
06:42Because I want to give everybody a chance.
06:45I want to give every Browns player a chance.
06:48If I thought the guy was a knucklehead off the field or anything like that, I'd go, oh, God.
06:53But he's not a knucklehead.
06:55But you're going to be paying very close attention because the second he drops one, God forbid, it's going to
07:00be hell on earth on social media and hell on earth in the stands and hell on earth for us
07:05on Monday morning.
07:06I remember a time, Kenny, where I did kill a draft and it happened to end up being a really
07:10good one, which was the year that they ended up taking Baker and Denzel one and four.
07:15And it just, it goes to show, right?
07:17Like, there is, and yeah, there are other guys that could have taken other than Baker.
07:20I get it.
07:21But Baker ended up having a very, very solid NFL career.
07:25And Denzel Ward has been incredible, right?
07:28I mean, so you just never truly know when it comes to these things.
07:31I don't have a terrible takeaway for this draft.
07:35Like, I was sitting there later on going, all right, if they were not going to trade up, you know,
07:39to get Lemon at the end the way that the Eagles did, I was like, man, Cooper, only because I
07:44saw so much Cooper.
07:45I was so dialed into every Indiana game.
07:46But that's not real scouting.
07:48That's not real breaking down the film.
07:50I just like the way that Cooper made every big catch, regardless of whether it was in a crowd, whether
07:56it was in the back of the end zone, whether it was a little off kilter from Mendoza.
08:00Just seemed to make every big play when they needed him to make it.
08:03And I'm like, that has to translate to the NFL, doesn't it?
08:06But there are plenty of guys who are really good in college that they just, maybe it's the speed.
08:12Maybe it's a little bit more.
08:14Now, Cooper is, what, about an inch taller than our dude.
08:18He's six foot, our guy's 5'11".
08:20Yeah, 10, 15 pounds heavier.
08:21So is that going to be the end all?
08:23Probably not.
08:23Well, they got to put a little bit of weight on him.
08:25I mean, it is an NFL training program, and you have to develop him, which is something I did hear
08:29from Todd Munkin.
08:30A lot last night about the word development here, because usually they just get here, and there's very little development,
08:36because there's been a lot of changeover with coaching staffs in the past, and you just don't have time to
08:42develop a lot of guys.
08:42And even with Kevin Stavansky's staff, there was a lot of change over there, and they got to play immediately.
08:46So you have to continue to try to develop, and this is the time to try to develop them, because
08:50once you get to the regular season, there's a lot of development that has to be done during the offseason.
08:55So once you get to the regular season, it's going to be more difficult to do that.
08:582-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
09:00I think what this becomes, though, this is not a draft necessarily about these guys, about Fano, about KC Concepcion,
09:08and about disliking them and thinking they're going to be.
09:12This is still a direct reaction to the lack of trust that fans have for Andrew Barry.
09:22Everybody's a Browns fan. Everybody hopes they do well.
09:24But you heard the first call we're going to take, and I got to tell you, guys, we got a
09:28full boat here.
09:29They're all feeling basically the same way.
09:32And so it ain't about them. It ain't about Fano. It's not about Concepcion.
09:37It's about the guy who took them.
09:40And last year was great. They don't care about last year anymore.
09:43They care about this year.
09:45And you didn't take any Buckeyes. People are going to be upset about that.
09:48You went from a right tackle to a left tackle.
09:51People are always going to be critical of that.
09:53And I will explain how I don't think it's the same way coming up at 7 o'clock.
09:56And then you take a guy who, I mean, it's right there.
09:59The first thing you write with the negative stuff, not about his personality, not about him as a guy, not
10:04about him with the speed.
10:05He's very fast. He can make plays.
10:07But if he can't catch the damn ball, it's just going to turn into third and 10.
10:11I know we got to get to the phones.
10:12Does it matter to anybody that they took two high-character guys?
10:16It matters to me. I'll tell you that right now.
10:18It matters to me, yes.
10:20Listen, I got to be fair.
10:21Like, if every year I crush them for taking guys that don't necessarily, they aren't the most upstanding of dudes,
10:29but we're taking a chance on talent this year.
10:31I'm glad you asked me this.
10:32They went with two guys, high character.
10:34I'm glad you asked me this.
10:35Because if you have a Fletcher Cox and a Brandon Graham in the locker room, see, this is where the
10:41concerns you always bring up about you-know-who with Miles, and you can, you say you don't expect to
10:47be a leader.
10:47You know, this is where you got me dead to rights here.
10:49If you had Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox in your defensive locker room, you could take chances with guys from
10:54Georgia.
10:54You could take chances here and there.
10:56I mean, let's make comparisons to the Eagles and their defense.
10:58If you got sheriffs in the locker room, not Evan Mobley, God love him, if you have sheriffs in the
11:05locker room, you can do that.
11:06You don't.
11:07So you got to draft those guys.
11:09You have to draft those guys.
11:10Like, that's part of the problem.
11:11Like, that's why you should be very excited about Carson Swessinger and what he's been able to do as a
11:17leader.
11:17You should be very excited about some of the guys that they have taken over last week because I need
11:21some leadership out of this.
11:24And we haven't had it because it's very easy when these guys come in, like, you heard it.
11:30We had the back and forth about Shador earlier this week when he goes, man, we need some positive vibes
11:35out of the media.
11:35And a lot of the media guys got defensive.
11:38I go, wait a minute.
11:38These guys come from successful, positive programs where the media really doesn't give them a lot of hell because they're
11:44winning a lot of football games these places.
11:47And when they do want to give them hell, they give the head coach hell.
11:49They don't give the players hell the way it happens in the NFL.
11:52So they come to the NFL and they go, oh, my God.
11:55Yeah, there's 20 years that precedes you there.
11:58You've got to change it somehow.
12:00So, yeah, I need some guys that can show some leadership and show some spunk and be able to be
12:06mentally tough to push forward because you're going to be battling a couple things that ain't going to be that
12:11great.
12:12You had one of the worst offenses in franchise history last year.
12:16You had one of the worst offenses in the NFL last year.
12:18And I've got to tell you, there's people talking around the building, man, you know, you won a 13-6
12:24game last year.
12:25You won some low-scoring games.
12:29They know it's pie in the sky.
12:32But you average what?
12:33How many points you averaged last year?
12:34About 14, 12, somewhere in there.
12:37You average one more touchdown per game with that defense.
12:42What can you do?
12:44What can you do?
12:45You get the ball in the end zone.
12:46You have one more drive per game.
12:48With that defense, what can you do?
12:51You have one fewer turnover per game with guys who you believe that can protect and guys that you believe
12:57that can make plays.
12:58What can you do?
13:00And you need guys who are going to be mentally tough and not just waiting for the paycheck to come
13:04because you've had plenty of those guys in the past.
13:06And it ain't got you nothing.
13:08Nothing.
13:09Nothing.
13:09So, it's not about taking, if this was a talented draft that's falling out of your pockets, maybe we have
13:17a different conversation.
13:18I needed solid players and solid people that are going to help out.
13:232-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
13:25So, yes, it does make me feel that way.
13:27Craig and Akron, you're first up on the fan.
13:28Hello, Craig.
13:30Hey, how are you doing, Ken?
13:31Wonderful, Craig.
13:32Well, I'm doing okay.
13:33Go ahead.
13:34So, I don't hate the draft.
13:36The draft, I gave it for day one, a B for one.
13:40Since Tate went off the board, we traded down.
13:43We got two extra picks just for dropping down three.
13:48And then we picked up the best offensive lineman out of the draft.
13:52It's the ninth pick.
13:53Normally, the best guys go top five.
13:56Okay, that part, excellent.
13:57Awesome.
13:58Actually, I'm on board with it.
14:00Second part, we just drafted Isaiah Bond all over again.
14:05I would have rather took Denzel Boston instead of another Isaiah Bond all over again.
14:11I'm like, dude, 6'4", let's get a guy we could put up in the air and go catch some
14:16touchdowns,
14:17go catch some passes.
14:19Don't know what he was thinking there, but since when do we do good with wide receiver?
14:23We're going to have to.
14:24We're going to have to.
14:25And the social media reactions, Craig, thank you very much for the call.
14:27Who are the social media actions brought to us by?
14:29Chive and Jewelers, Cleveland's Premier Jewelry's story.
14:32The fantasy liaison.
14:33I just popped it up 30 seconds ago.
14:35Please discuss Anthony Schwartz 2.0.
14:38That's where people are.
14:39We are getting a lot of that.
14:40We got to try to turn it a little bit and give some sunny disposition here.
14:45Yeah, maybe, John, track down Steve Smith.
14:47Steve Smith was all about it.
