00:01A South Korean man rescued from a kidnapping has been found to be wanted in his home country
00:07and is listed in an Interpol raid notice, says Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department
00:13Director M. Kumar. Kumar said the 40-year-old man had been on his way from Gunting Highlands
00:19to Kuala Lumpur on April 17th when he was kidnapped by three men. He said the victim
00:25had been driving alone in Gunting Highlands when three men stopped him, pulled him out
00:30of his vehicle, assaulted him, tied him up, and took him to an unknown location.
00:37Kumar said the three men, all South Korean nationals aged 28 to 40, demanded a US$10 million ransom
00:44in cryptocurrency. He also said Bukit Aman's Commercial Crime Investigation Department had
00:50detected and frozen US$2.46 million in several accounts belonging to the suspects.
00:58Kumar said checks show that the victim had entered Malaysia in 2016, but the South Korean embassy
01:04confirmed that his passport had been cancelled and that he was wanted back home for suspected
01:09involvement in organized crime and illegal gambling.
