An Adelaide woman accused of attempting to murder her ex-partner has been denied bail in the South Australian Supreme Court.

00:02Prosecutors allege 45-year-old Lisa Lyons and her co-accused attempted to murder her ex, Jonathan Horton, in 2017.
00:11The pair allegedly attacked Mr Horton with an axe. While he survived his injuries, he became a tetraplegic.
00:18Lawyers for Dr Lyons applied for bail on the basis she has dental and medical issues,
00:24which they say are not being adequately managed in prison.
00:27But Justice Rachel Gray refused all forms of bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offending
00:33and the significant flight risk posed by the defendant.
00:37Dr Lyons, a former university academic and historian, was extradited from Palau to Adelaide in 2023
00:44and has been in custody ever since.
00:47A third person is also charged with the attempted murder of Jonathan Horton.
00:52Letitia Fortune allegedly tried to smother him while he was in a rehabilitation centre,
00:57recovering from the injuries allegedly sustained by Dr Lyons and her then partner, Zachariah Bruckner.
01:03Dr Lyons' trial is expected to commence next year.
