00:00Street Style is brought to you by Garnier.
00:09Tonight we're talking trending styles.
00:12And guys, hats and headwear are making a comeback.
00:15So joining us tonight is one of the few millionaires we have in Trinidad and Tobago,
00:20Miss Cassandra Pemberton of Glory Retrofit.
00:24Miss Pemberton, thank you so much for joining us.
00:26So hats and headwear are seeing their making a comeback.
00:30Tell me, what do you think a headpiece does for an outfit?
00:34Oh wow, it's so much. It's a defining, it's a signature.
00:39It's like if you have a room of 100 people and two people have on a hat,
00:44you're always going to remember the person with the hat on.
00:46So it's definitely a finish, a signature.
00:49And for the longest while, I think this is the first era where hats is not a finishing of an
00:54outfit.
00:54And the lovely and beautiful thing about a headpiece and the way it finishes you,
00:59it lifts your shoulders up.
01:01You know, it just, every time, it crowns your crown.
01:05Every time I put a headpiece on someone, I see their shoulders draw back.
01:10I see a healing.
01:10I see the queen, the goddess, the empress come out.
01:13You know what I mean?
01:14Even the king, when I do do pieces for men,
01:16I just see an elevation of internal character just beaming outwards.
01:21Run us through all the different types of headwear and headpieces there are in terms of these styles.
01:26Anything from like a baseball cap you could start with,
01:29to a beret, to a beanie, which is a little thing,
01:33to fedoras, to fascinators.
01:36You know, they run the gamut.
01:38There are different types of hats, like a pin hat.
01:42There are just so many.
01:44Every occasion.
01:44Yes, so many, so many.
01:46But here in Trinidad, we tend to find that we don't really pick up on a lot of these types
01:51of trends.
01:51Why do you think that is?
01:54Well, the thing is, ironically, I'm not really into trends,
01:57but I'm into expression.
01:59You know, and I think Trinidad plays safe.
02:02We like to err on the side of a conservative.
02:05Outside of Carnival, we're quite conservative.
02:07We color inside the lines.
02:09We're very, you know, kind of cookie cutter.
02:11We've been taught to shrink.
02:13The way that Caribbean children are red causes us to not self-express openly.
02:19You know, and I was lucky that I had the kind of a mother that I had on two different
02:22types of shoes,
02:23and she would say, or felt like wearing my pants on my head,
02:26and she would say, you ready, baby?
02:28Let's go.
02:29Ready?
02:30Yeah, we would get on the road, and people would say,
02:32Gloria, which my headpiece brand is named after her,
02:36even before she died, I always knew to honor my mom,
02:39so I called it glory, you know, in reverence of honor,
02:43to have the way that she raised me.
02:45So that people would say, Gloria, your daughter have on two different sides of shoes.
02:49She said, yes, she trusts herself, and I'm an only child as well.
02:53So I didn't get as many boxes as some people do.
02:57Now, of course, you know, abroad they have the Met Galas,
03:00and they have all of these really, you know, upscale types of events,
03:04but as of the teen stars here in Trinidad and Tobago,
03:07what are some of the places you would recommend people get a custom headpiece made for?
03:11On some of the occasions.
03:12Oh, my gosh.
03:13I would say it runs the gamut from streetwear to bridal to graduation or funeral, unfortunately.
03:23But it just doesn't have an occasion, per se, which is nice,
03:28because you could be just going around the road in a t-shirt and a jeans
03:31and be like, you know, I want to judge this up.
03:33Or let's say, for instance, you're traveling,
03:35and you don't want to have too much in the kitchen.
03:36You want to have that jeans that you can beat,
03:38but I want it to look different today.
03:39I just add a little touch of a, you know, of a thing for dinner
03:43to kind of change the mood of what I'm wearing, you know.
03:47So this is one of my absolute favorite pieces that I made.
03:51This is from a bridal collection.
03:53Okay, nice.
03:54And this is for a specific type of bride who she really wants to come in
04:00and make a statement and be seen in a nice way.
04:03It's her day.
04:05It's her world, you know, and she wants to share it and self-express.
04:09This is really a nice piece for a music video also,
04:12or a birthday, you know, one of those landmark birthdays,
04:1630, 40, for a birthday shoot.
04:18It's really nice for that as well.
04:19It's nice for an accent for a costume.
04:23And so it runs the gamut of what you can do,
04:25but it was designed with a bride in mind.
04:28It's giving signature.
04:30It's giving statement.
04:31So, guys, there's no particular occasion to wear a piece like this.
04:35It's all about standing out and making yourself seen.
04:39Once again, I'm Vanessa Cutting, and this was Street Style.
04:43We'll see you all again next week Thursday.
04:51Street Style was brought to you by Garnier.
