Green Party leader Zack Polanski calls the government's new £662m migration deal with France "incredibly worrying", adding; "what they're doing is taking even more unsafe measures to be able to get to this country. And ultimately what we need is a fair and safe system of migration where people have safe routes." Report by Keechl. 00:00I think this migration deal is incredibly worrying.
00:03It's another step where the government don't seem to actually be moving
00:06towards a fair and safe system of migration.
00:09I was out in Calais just last Christmas
00:11and I saw the brutal conditions that so many people are living in.
00:15People often say France is a safe country, and that's true,
00:17but Calais is not a safe place.
00:19There's reports of police tear-gassing babies.
00:22That's on the French police, but that's British money
00:24that is going towards the French police
00:27where we're seeing this brutal system of oppression.
00:30And measures like this are not doing anything really to deter people.
00:34In fact, what they're doing is taking even more unsafe measures
00:37to be able to get to this country.
00:39And ultimately what we need is a fair and safe system of migration
00:43where people have safe routes.
