00:00Some of the U.S. military experts we've spoken to have suggested that perhaps that's because the United States is
00:05playing what they described as an away match, whilst Iran is playing a home match.
00:10I wonder whether you think there are associated challenges for the United States in that it is a very long
00:17way away from home in the waters off Iran.
00:19So the issue for Iran as a country and clearly for its current regime is existential.
00:25It's not existential for the U.S.
00:27So the challenge for the U.S. military is that they'll do what they're told to do.
00:32But they know that public opinion in the U.S. is increasingly not supporting this action.
00:37And it's time limited and there are elections coming later in the year.
00:41So the problem for the U.S. is they've ended up in a terribly difficult fight, which is by any
00:48standards discretionary for the U.S. and existential for Iran.
00:52And that more than compensates for the mismatch in military capability between the U.S. and Iran so far.
