00:00But when you look at these guys, and I want to start with your take on Jordan, because I feel
00:04like you haven't been able to wax poetic on the show about what Jordan Alvarez is doing just yet.
00:09Go ahead and give me the Jordan pitch and then other guys that jump out to you in this race.
00:13That might be the thing is Jordan might put together the best contact power season we've seen in the stat
00:20cast era.
00:21And I say the stat cast era because we just wouldn't have the same barometers to be able to compare,
00:25right?
00:26Because some of these power guys that just hit the ball so hard so frequently and walk that their batting
00:29average ends up being pretty high, a la judge, even though he's towards the lower end of qualified hitters in
00:35overall contact rate.
00:37If Jordan Alvarez puts together, you know, it basically extrapolates what he's doing right now.
00:42And I'm not saying a 225 WRC plus, but continuing to walk 7% more than he's striking out and
00:48only strike out a 10% clip.
00:49Like if we're looking at a guy that has a WRC plus in the 180 to 200 range and he's
00:56striking out below 15% of the time, this would be one of the greatest offensive seasons we've ever seen.
01:03But also that affirmatively that we can measure with the metrics that we're able to measure with.
01:08And I think that needs to be part of the calculus now as we vote on awards is we have
01:12so much information at our disposal.
01:13And I guess the surface level stats are, of course, very important.
01:15But when guys are doing things metrically that we've never seen that also corroborate the ridiculous output, I think you
01:23got to look at that.
01:24And we're looking at a player here that contact rate wise is in the upper echelon of the league, but
01:30then is also pacing the league in homers.
01:32So if you get a guy that's going to hit you 40 plus or 50 potentially, which is what he's
01:36on pace for, and he's not whiffing at all.
01:40I don't know how you look anywhere else than that guy for the MVP and, and especially if he's near
01:45200 WRC plus, but I think the number one thing that stands out to me is that he literally is
01:50the perfect hitter right now.
01:51Like right now, he feels like an MLB, the show when you can just manipulate the, the, the overalls and
01:57completely jack up all of the sliders where there's no flaw in the guy.
02:01And it's almost an automatic home run.
02:03Like he doesn't chase.
02:04He doesn't whiff.
02:05He hits the ball as hard as anybody.
02:07It's at optimal angles.
02:09He's one of the best left on left hitters of all time.
02:12It doesn't really, it's almost unfathomable.
02:15The only issue, the only flaw has been that we haven't been able to turn injuries off.
02:20That button hasn't been working and that's literally been it.
02:23Otherwise he's perfect.
02:25You can talk about the defense, but whatever I had the, who cares?
02:28I'm talking about the bat.
02:29Yeah.
02:30Jordan Alvarez, by the way, a 94% zone contact rate right now.
02:38That's a better note zone contact.
02:41Again, when you lift the barrel off your shoulder and you fire at a pitch in the strike zone, how
02:46many times are you making contact?
02:47Jordan Alvarez is at a 93.8% zone contact rate.
02:51For reference, Luis Arias is at 94.4.
02:54Xavier Edwards is at 94.4.
02:57Jordan is at a higher zone contact rate than guys like Jose Ramirez and slap hitters like Andres Jimenez and
03:06Jacob Wilson.
03:07He's better than Kevin McGonigal right now in terms of zone contact.
03:11It's just amazing that there's a guy that's like 6'6", 250 that can hit a ball 118 miles an
03:18hour that is at a 94% zone contact rate and he doesn't chase.
03:24It's like if Nico Horner had juice, like serious, serious juice.
03:28That's what we're talking about with Jordan Alvarez at the moment.
03:31That's the craziest part is usually these insane contact guys chase.
03:34That's the biggest frustration with Jacob Wilson and Luis Arias is because those guys are almost always in swing mode
03:41because they feel like they can get to everything.
03:43So when you're at a zone contact rate, that is, and he's historically been in the upper 80s like Jordan
03:48has.
03:49That's the amazing part.
03:50You're looking at a 70 hit tool that right now is playing like an 80 and then 70 to 80
03:56power.
03:56We've never seen anything like that.
03:58Like the scouting grades would be a joke if you were to try to compare that to what he's doing
04:02right now.
04:03Historically, it's always been kind of like 60, 70 hit tool and then 70 power, which is already outrageous with
04:0970 plate discipline.
04:10Like it's legitimately 80s across the board right now.
04:13And that's why I think if we see him stay healthy, this could be one of the best offensive seasons
04:18we've ever seen.
04:18And I don't think that's crazy to say on April 21st.
