00:00Keith Scotland, Senior Council Member of Parliament, says the escalation in violent crime reflects what he believes is a lack
00:08of a clear plan, adding that the boldness of recent attacks demonstrates the level of disregard criminals now have for
00:16the police, the government and law enforcement institutions across the country.
00:21Where is the sense of comfort that you can have an invasion at a police station and a police officer
00:30during her call in the line of duty whilst performing her duty is violated and killed and it is under
00:42the watch of this government.
00:44He tells the Morning Edition the time for deflection is over, noting that the government has been in office for
00:51almost a year and must now take decisive action. While he does not believe a curfew is the best solution,
00:58he is calling for meaningful collaboration with the opposition and an end to what he describes as public relations responses
01:06to serious security threats.
01:08The government has shown a proper lack of monitoring via the Minister of Homeland Security. We have not heard. What
01:22we have heard from that Minister is that I will not sit idly by. So he tells you what he
01:31will not do. He has not said what he will do. That is worrisome.
01:36Scotland Senior Council warns that stronger leadership and coordinated action are lacking.
01:43We need competent action. We need decisive action. And we say that in this country right now we are in
01:53a crisis. This government cannot handle the crisis. They don't have the capacity or even the will to do so.
