00:06It is wild that it is already August and we are in back to school season. So I thought I
00:11would
00:11wear my honorary school shirt. This is actually my wife. She gave it to me. She's an alumni from
00:15here. I actually went to a school that is similar colors, but in Canada, definitely not as expensive
00:22either. But this is some of the best tech that you can bring for your back to school season. I
00:27honestly remember carrying myself a couple years ago, many years ago. I'm getting old.
00:32But the pack that I want to showcase has been on the channel also for years because I really
00:37swear by it. They actually came out with a brand new version. So this is the new AirSF X-Pack
00:42collection. They also have a new city line that you can check out. So things have slightly
00:46changed from their previous gen. Some materials have been different, but overall their ethos
00:50is the same. It is pretty much unbranded. It's made of ballistic nylon. It is bulletproof.
00:55If you get this bag, trust me, I kind of swear by it. So many of you have bought it
00:59over the
00:59years and actually sent me messages saying that they love it. Trust me, if there's one
01:03thing that you can believe from any of my episodes, this bag is like the best for back to school.
01:08So a couple of reasons why. So first off, it has this front loading zipper. It's funny because
01:13I use it every day here in my studio. I bring my lunch to school, which hasn't really changed
01:18from when I was a student. I've got some Domino's pizza, some leftovers. I stick that in the front
01:23pouch. You can also stick like other things like gym material, smaller little notebooks,
01:27speakers, jam those all into the front and they're easy to access. Since I used to go to the gym
01:32a lot
01:32when I was in school, still kind of keep up that tradition. It also has this little bottom place.
01:36I typically fit my gym shoes in here, all the stinky stuff that you don't want to put in the
01:41same compartment. Obviously these orange Jordans wouldn't be my gym shoes, but just showing them off
01:46as I have them here in studio. And even though they are high tops, they still fit. And you can
01:51see
01:51inside that they have that little separate compartment. So now your stinky shoes are not
01:55getting with the rest of your stuff on the inside with that little orange lining in between. You
02:00still have room for your lunch and the best part for all of your actual school gear, like your
02:05laptops, it has separate compartments up top here. You can see right there, pretty much the only other
02:10branding. So Air, they're designed in San Francisco. This, like I said, is the X-Pac line, which I really
02:14like because if you can't tell, orange is my favorite color. It still has more than enough room to slot
02:19your laptop, your textbooks. Even if you have a 15 inch laptop that still fits with room to spare,
02:25pretty much all your gear is secure in one place. They've got nice padding on the back,
02:29some nice vents. If you are starting school, it's still pretty hot at where I am. You will be sweating,
02:33carrying all the stuff around. It is comfy, easy to carry around, and you don't need to worry about
02:38this thing getting dinged up because it is made out of such good materials. You just need to give it
02:42a wipe if it gets dirty. It is durable. Trust me, if you get this bag, you will not regret
02:47it
02:47over your four years, five, even into your masters. So I mentioned onto the actual tech. So I've got
02:54two different laptop sizes here. So either a 15 or a 13 inch. So this is obviously like personal
03:00preference. I still would recommend a 13 inch laptop, but if you'd like the extra size, if maybe
03:05you're in a dorm room and don't want to get an external monitor, you could justify getting a larger
03:10size. But since this is more of like a budget episode, you might get initially deceived by this,
03:14but this is the M3 MacBook Air. You can also go for an M2. Honestly, whichever one you get a
03:21better
03:21deal with is probably the better one to save a little bit more money. Anything within like M series
03:26silicon, like M1 is getting a bit old. It still holds up. But like I said, M2, M3, try to
03:32stay away
03:32from M4. Any of like the new tech, you'll obviously pay more for. If you want to save a bit
03:37more money,
03:38stick to the older stuff. They always go on sale and their performance, I would say is pretty
03:42negligible. If you're a student, if most of the time you're just writing out notes, you're just
03:46typing out emails, you're writing essays, you're surfing the net, you're watching YouTube, you are
03:50slacking off using chat GPT to cheat your way through school. I wish I had that. Any of the M
03:55series
03:55silicone, you don't need like the latest and greatest. If you're a student, I get it. Budget is super
04:00important. So just getting an older MacBook Air, you do not need a MacBook Pro when you are in school.
04:05So that is my recommendation for the Apple side. If you want something with a similar feel and kind of
04:11build
04:11as MacBooks, my go-to is always being the Surface line of laptops. So this is the latest Surface
04:17Laptop 7. So this one has the Snapdragon X Plus chip. Once again, it's not the X Elite, which is
04:23the top level chip, which will cost more money. This is once again, a bit more on the budget side.
04:28You are paying a bit more for this in the Windows laptop segment. But like I said, if you want
04:32a similar
04:32build, feel, that premiumness from say like the MacBooks, a lot of people always ask me what
04:37Windows computer kind of like compares close to a MacBook, I would definitely say it's the Surface
04:43line. Once again, if you can get an older one or just stick to a mid-range chip set to
04:47save money,
04:48that will keep more budget available for going out for drinks, if that's your jam in school.
04:53Whatever fun activities you guys do in school, you have more money for. The next big question
04:58students usually ask is, can you get by with an iPad as your main or only device? My honest opinion
05:04is still stick to a dedicated laptop. It has a fully functional OS. There might be some weird
05:09software that you're running. Say you're in engineering or computer science, some of those
05:12apps might need a fully functional OS. Some of them might work on an iPad, but do you need that
05:18hassle
05:18when you're a student or do you need to really carry around two devices? If you are dead set on
05:23one,
05:23if you like to take down notes, honestly, the iPad mini is still my recommendation. It is still like
05:29palmable. So when you are in class, say for example, you have like a little Apple pencil here,
05:34you can still hold it in one hand. You can hear like what the professor is saying. You can jot
05:38down
05:38notes on those PDFs. It makes it a bit more manageable. And the iPad mini still doesn't have
05:43that premium price as a lot of the other iPads. Don't get the iPad Pro. Don't get the iPad Air.
05:49Stick with a mini. It's been my personal favorite one. And especially for a student, I think it's the
05:54best option to go for. So smartphones, I'm going to once again age myself, but keep it on budget.
05:58This is the iPhone SE, technically the third gen. So this came out a couple of years ago,
06:02but the SE was always my favorite line when I was in school. I just didn't have the money to
06:07spend
06:08on the latest and greatest. Once again, do not get the iPhone 16 Pro Max, $1,500, $2,000. You
06:14do not
06:15need that. If you need an iOS experience, stick with an older iPhone. You can get something like this.
06:20Even the iPhone like 16E still think it's pricey for what you're paying for, but you can get by.
06:25There are so many great mid-range options in the Android space. This is around like that $400 to $500
06:32mark. This is the Poco F7. I know the Pixel 9a is great value. We're about to get the announcement
06:37of the Pixel 10 shortly. Just get something mid-range. Once again, you don't need to spend
06:42a thousand plus dollars for smartphones. You can get by totally fine with something mid-range
06:46or something a bit older. So moving on to headphones, earbuds, if you could go for only one pair as
06:53a
06:53student, my recommendation, once again, is to get like actual earbuds versus like over the ears.
06:58They're just way more versatile. So these are the AirPods 4. They are $129. You can also get the
07:03ANC versions for like $179. Add that extra amount for a Canadian dollars. They're decent. They work
07:09well within the Apple ecosystem, but if you can splurge a bit more, if you are someone that commutes a
07:14lot,
07:14say your commute time is 30 minutes to an hour. If you are someone that goes to the gym almost
07:18like
07:18every day, these ones are really worth it. These are the Beats Power Beats Pro 2s. They work both
07:24with iOS and Android. They have active noise canceling. They are really meant for everyday
07:28usage. And with those little wingtips that fit around your ear, you never need to worry about
07:33losing them. They are sweat and water resistant. So if you do sweat a lot in the gym, they are
07:37great.
07:38Once again, maybe slightly biased because they're orange, but I really love this pair of earbuds.
07:43If I could splurge on one thing in my tech pack when I was a student for the amount of
07:47music that I
07:47listened to, they would definitely be at earbuds. Moving on to gaming. So this is the Nintendo
07:53Switch Lite. I know that the Switch 2 came out. In my opinion, not worth it. Plus, this is a
07:58budget
07:58episode. Keep it to the Switch Lite. So this is my actually like Zelda edition. I got this one with
08:05Echoes of Wisdom. And in my opinion, the Switch Lite is like the perfect size for a gaming handheld.
08:11It is so much easier to hold when you're commuting, easier to put into your bag, easier to sneak
08:15playing while you're in class. Like look at the difference in size between say like the Switch 2
08:20and the Switch Lite. Pretty big size comparison. And once again, the price, the Switch 2 is the
08:26newest thing. It's the most expensive. I'm sure you can grab like a Switch Lite for 100, 150 bucks
08:31on eBay, on Kijiji, even on Marketplace. Whenever you kids buy your secondhand stuff these days,
08:37grab a Switch Lite. You've got so many different games to choose from. Pretty much every game you can
08:41play on this. You can rock on the Switch 2, except for the new Mario Kart, except for Donkey Kong
08:46Bonanza. But yeah, solid little gaming handheld. Great for students and you won't break the bank.
08:50And the next two are super dependent. If you want to carry them, I'll include them anyways. One is a
08:54small Bluetooth speaker. This one is just from Marshall. It's the Willen 2. I always used one
08:58when I was in school. And the second is a notebook. Once again, maybe dating myself just to jot down
09:03notes. I prefer this over an iPad personally. And this one is my fave from Harry Potter. Just a little
09:08moleskin. I wish there was a Ravenclaw one though. So last but not least are just the essential little
09:13tech accessories to fit into your pack. So the first one is just the MX Anywhere mouse from Logitech.
09:19You never know when you'll need to rock a mouse with your laptop. You don't always have to use,
09:23you know, like your touchpad. Whether you're setting up a little mobile workstation, whether you are
09:27working in your dorm room, have this little mouse with you at your dorm room tech setup, and then you
09:31can
09:31just bring it with you to your classes. The next one is just a power bank to make sure all
09:36your tech is
09:37juiced up. This one is just from Belkin. It's 30 watts. What I really like, it has a built-in
09:41USB-C cable
09:42because you always manage to lose things as a student. So this one has that kind of built in.
09:47And the last thing is just a charger. Hopefully you do have those cables, but this once again is from
09:52Belkin. It has the two chargers. It's got a 50 to 60 watt max charger to charge your laptop, and
09:57then
09:57your second one to just charge some of your other miscellaneous tech. 10 to 15 bucks on Amazon. That is
10:04my
10:04budget back to school tech episode. So I hope you guys enjoyed this one. If you are heading back to
10:09school, let me know some other vitals that you might need in the comments. I'm pretty sure that
10:13I covered everything. Wishing everyone the best in your first semester back, whether you're returning,
10:19whether this is your first year, whether you're an oldie like myself and want to revisit some
10:24education, have fun at school and catch you in one of my next ones. Peace.
10:29Peace.
10:29Peace.
10:29Peace.
10:29Peace.
