00:05All right. So Apple hit us with a couple upgrades before the end of 2025. This is the first one.
00:10This is the new M5 MacBook Pro. And interestingly enough, it's only the M5. We don't have the M5
00:16Pro or M5 Max chip. There's a couple of thoughts and reasonings behind that, which I'll get to in
00:20a second, but we'll do a quick little unboxing. You can actually see from the box, nothing much
00:26has changed. They're even using the same like little wallpaper. The design of the box is
00:30the same, and that is pretty much the same with the laptop. Inside, standard, you can still
00:39get it in the two color options, space black or silver. We've got just a standard USB-C cable
00:45with the little MagSafe charger on the end. Of course, color match depending on which color
00:49of the MacBook that you get. Designed by California in Apple. I feel like I haven't said that in
00:54a while. If you're new to the channel, you know, you know, you can also spec it with
00:58a nano texture display. And if you do that, you get the little polishing cloth. Obviously
01:03that costs extra for the nano texture display. I guess on the flip side, you get this warranty,
01:08info, user manuals, et cetera, and a 70 watt charger. You can upgrade this for around like
01:1410 bucks US, $16 like Canadian to the 96 watt charger, which in my opinion is a no brainer
01:19because if you buy this separately, it's like $60 or like $95 Canadian. So buy the extra charger
01:26or buy the 96 watt charger. It will obviously charge your device faster. That is it for
01:31the unboxing. And obviously the best part, getting the actual laptop up. Setup was pretty
01:36easy. And as you set this up, it has macOS Tahoe pre-installed. So you have all the benefits
01:40of liquid glass. It looks pretty clean. I like the uniformity now. As an example, I've got
01:45to iOS 26 running on my iPhone 17 pro max. You can see that I've got the clear icons,
01:49which you can now kind of match that uniformity is there across the board, which is nice. And
01:54for the rest of the laptop, like I said, pretty much the same, you've got MacBook Pro kind
01:58of engraved or etched into the back, which I've always been a fan of. It's the exact same
02:01footprint, pretty much like the identical body to the M4 max, which you see, which I'm currently
02:06rocking. So here's my hypothesis. So the reason why we've gotten the M5, obviously it's the
02:11new chip. We're getting it on the iPad as well. You can see the little startup screen
02:15with the animation, which I think is really nice. The reason for that is we are going
02:19to get say the M5 pro and M5 max on the new MacBook OLEDs, which should be coming. I've
02:25seen like a couple of leaks, a couple of rumors around it. Apple has actually already signed
02:29a deal with Samsung for those panels and what's expected for that OLED display. We're actually
02:33removing the notch. It'll be a hole punch cutout. Obviously the benefits of OLED, they're
02:37like super dark, super black, great contrast ratios. The screens just tend to look better.
02:43I've even seen some rumors of a touch screen coming up. So here are my thoughts, follow
02:46along if you can. This is like Apple detectiveness going on full blast. So will we get the M5 pro
02:51and M5 max in the old body, like this kind of design, like early next year, maybe even
02:56like WWDC or will they wait for the M6 chip to launch with the new OLED displays? Because from
03:03what we've seen that will get kind of released at the end of 2026. So it's kind of like anyone's
03:08guess. If Apple will reserve the M5 pro M5 max for the new chip, will they come out with
03:14like the M6 M6 pro with the new OLEDs? If you're a detective, if you love to watch the leaks
03:19and rumors, obviously you can kind of follow that rabbit hole, but just know for now, this
03:23is only the M5 chip. If you're looking to get anything more powerful, you'll still need
03:28to grab the older M4 pro or M4 max. So technically what's new in this is mostly around GPU performance.
03:35So the 10 core GPU is built with their next gen architecture. So technically faster for all things
03:40graphics related. So as an example, 1.6 times faster graphics performance than the M4 and things
03:45like games or even pro apps. The CPU, however, remains the same, but just like all tech, it seems
03:50these days, pretty much everything from a smartphone to a laptop to even like TVs, AI performance is now
03:56better. They now have a neural accelerator built into each of the cores of the GPU. So anything
04:00like AI driven workflows, AI speech recognition. If you're someone that loves to do like captions
04:05on social media, if you do any sort of like image generation that should now theoretically be faster,
04:10but I'm curious, has anyone that has used like a MacBook pro or just like any computer in general,
04:16are you getting like a full use of your AI daily tasks? Like other than say, asking chat GPT,
04:23a specific question. Do you use AI like in your actual workflow? I'd love to hear your guys input
04:28because as like a creator, I still do a lot of like the brunt say like editing work myself. I
04:33don't
04:33really do any AI stuff. Maybe like for CapCut, I'm generating captions, maybe like some magnetic
04:41masking, but I still haven't really found like a good use case for it. But if you do use AI,
04:46once again,
04:46let me know. Maybe you'd love this. One thing that actually gets like good use though, which you will
04:51notice like on the daily basis is the battery life. So because of the new efficiencies of obviously M5 and
04:56those new chips, the battery is more efficient. So it's gotten better by two extra hours, say like video
05:01playback before on the older like M4s, that was like 22 hours. Now it is two hours better at 24
05:07hours. So
05:08literally an entire day's use. But I will say nothing comes close to a MacBook like battery life. They are
05:13just like
05:14on a different level. I know Windows claims that their battery life can be like all day. But in
05:19general, MacBook, MacBook Pro battery is just untouchable. And now it's gotten even better. But
05:25like I said, those are the big upgrades coming to M5. It's a very minimal upgrade. And this is really
05:30meant for someone that's coming from say like an M1 M2 chip. Maybe you're looking to get say like the
05:35base model. But if you do like to play that little Sherlock Holmes game of figuring out what Apple device
05:41will come out next, when they'll release the M5 Pro, M5 Max, or even that mythical OLED, because
05:46technically, we haven't had a design change from this MacBook body since 2021, I believe I've been
05:52doing this for a long enough time now to know that every like four to five years, they do have
05:56like a
05:56big design change. So in my opinion, you should definitely wait. But don't get me wrong, it's still
06:01a great device, still super beautiful, still one of the best built laptops, like you've got like
06:06industry leading speakers, even on the smaller like 14 inch model, the speakers sound great.
06:11You obviously have that chiclet style keyboard, you literally have the best trackpad in the game, it
06:15still has a really good display. So this is their liquid retina XDR display, it gets up to 1600 nits
06:21of peak brightness, it's got promotion. So all the way up to 120 hertz, it is a great laptop performs
06:26well. But if you're really looking for like a pro device, like this is where I feel it's a bit
06:30weird,
06:31people spend the extra money on these over say, like the MacBook Air, which most people should get.
06:37If you're getting a pro model, you're likely going to be getting the pro chip.
06:41As an example, M4 Max chip 128 gigs of RAM, obviously way overkill, but you can't even spec this
06:47with more RAM on the base M5. As an example, you'll have to wait once again, till that M5 Pro
06:54or M5 Max
06:55chip comes. This only goes up to 32 gigs, which once again is a lot. But if you are paying
07:00for this, as an
07:01example, the base like M5, that still remains the same price. That's 1599 US or 2099 Canadian.
07:08This spec has 32 gigs of RAM, four terabytes of space, which once again, never pay Apple for that
07:13extra storage. This will run you 3200, 3199 US or 4750 Canadian, which is a lot of money. If you
07:21are
07:22looking to get the base M5 MacBook Pro stick to the base model. I know that only comes with 16
07:27gigs of
07:27RAM, if you want to stretch and upgrade it, it's an extra 200 bucks like US probably like 300 Canadian.
07:33That's kind of it don't spend any more extra money on other upgrades other than that $16 96 watt charger
07:39would be my recommendation. But let me know your thoughts about the M5 2025 MacBook Pro. And I'm
07:46curious if any of you love to go down that rumor mill, what do you think the next model will
07:51be? When
07:51do you think the M5 Pros are going to launch? Would you wait for that new mythical OLED MacBook Pro,
07:56which I'm pretty stoked about personally, just in general, a newly designed MacBook. We've been
08:01waiting like close to five years. So it is time for an upgrade. Make sure you're sub because we have
08:07M5 iPad as well as the new M5 Vision Pro on deck. Those are the other two products that got
08:13launched.
08:14You'll see them after this video. So I'll catch you then. Peace.
08:17Peace.
08:17Peace.
