03:58So, in my head, I was like, I don't know if it's my mom there.

10:15One night I was heading out to a gig and I got a text from her.
10:17I see you on RuPaul's show and you look fabulous.

10:20And I was like, oh my God, I'm going to call her and this woman is going to curse me
10:23the f*** out.
10:24You thought it was an intervention?
10:26Yeah, I thought it was an intervention.
10:27But I actually called her the next morning.
10:29She's like, oh my God, I'm so proud of you.
10:31Would you say RuPaul's Drag Race is bringing families together?

10:40What reaction do you get from fans who've watched you on the show?
10:43I get Facebooks all the time from little boys who ask me questions like, I want to tell my mom,
10:48I don't have the strength, I don't have the courage, please help me.
10:51And it's just like, I didn't know I was signing up for that, you know.
10:53I thought I was coming on, you know, to be fabulous and show the world my talents and, you know,
10:57increase my booking fee.
11:01But the show definitely has given me a voice.
11:03And it's taught me that outside of just a performance, that we all have a voice and have a responsibility
11:07to not only our community, but to the world to share that and help those in need as much as
11:11we can.
11:12That's lovely.
11:12And that's, you're absolutely right.

11:19I was so scared when you called me that I'm on the show because I don't speak English.
11:25But I think at the same time, I'm not going to quit.

11:45A mom write me that her son wants to be a drag queen and her son has 10 years old.
11:51And she said, now you show me that my son is special and I need to love him more and

11:58So I teach people that my mom loves me no matter what.

12:09Now, Entertainment Weekly called your elimination the most controversial.
12:12And at one point in the show, I called you the Susan Lucci of Drag Race.
12:17You came very close to winning challenges, but you never won a challenge.

12:21I was the one that keyed your car.

12:25I feel much better now.

12:27So, Pandora, you made a very brave admission at one point in the show.

12:37I knew I was totally different.
12:38I felt totally alone.
12:39I thought that, you know, well, I'll just take all these pills because I don't, I can't deal

12:44Now, that was very brave and I was very moved by that.
12:48What's the reaction been?
12:49I've gotten many emails from people saying that they have gone through the same thing
12:53and they felt the same emotion.
12:54And I actually got probably the most powerful email.
12:57Somebody said by hearing my story that they said that I saved their life.
13:02I burst into tears.
13:03I was blown away by that.
13:04It's amazing the power that you have as a queen.
13:07It's quite a gift.
13:08I also remember that you talked about your father and that he, you know, wasn't that
13:12accepting of what you do and that he had been ill.
13:15He always accepted me being gay, but the drag thing, he just didn't want to really acknowledge.
13:20Was there any closure there?
13:21There was a moment before he passed away.
13:24It was actually a week before he passed away.
13:25And he called me and he said that he watched Drag Race and that he was so proud of me.
13:30And he was my number one fan.
13:32And that's the call.
13:35That's the call that I waited my entire life to hear.
13:40That's beautiful.
13:41And so many have been waiting for that call.
13:45Do you have anything to say about the people out there who have been waiting for that call?
13:48I would just say that know that you're good enough and you're perfect the way that you are.
13:53And you have to affirm your life.
13:55And that's what I did before.
13:56But it was amazing to at least have that moment before he passed away.
14:01Well, no matter what happens, I mean, you always kept us laughing.
14:05And that's worth a billion dollars.

26:43When I watched it, I realized that at that time, I was all those things that they were calling me.

27:02I can't take back what I did, but I can only make from this day forward better.

27:59with everyone because then she would end up not being focused on the next day's challenge and could possibly end

28:08Before I came here, I didn't have a place to stay.
28:11I was sleeping on my drag mother's floor.
28:12I didn't have a job.
28:14When I came here, my goal was to win.
28:15If I went home empty-handed, like, that wasn't an option.
28:19But my mom, like, she always teach me, when you want something, you pray for it.
28:22And so I stayed prayed up.
28:24That's what I call it.

28:25When I went to the hotel, I didn't want to hang out.
28:28I stayed in my room and, like, I would ask God for ideas, creations for the next challenge or what
28:32to do on, like, on the runway.
28:35Give me the idea that I need to win this challenge.

28:40And I think she did.
28:41And I just want to say that I'm so proud of you.

31:38Who out there surprised you that were fans of the show?
31:43I did a little job interviewing people on a red carpet, and I had to interview Johnny Weir, the great
31:47skater.
31:48And I'm so excited to meet Johnny Weir.
31:50And I put out my hand.
31:50He goes, I love you.
31:52I love drag race.
31:53I was like, I can't even believe this is happening.
31:55Now, Merle, this season on our show, what stood out fashion-wise?
32:01Well, Tyra's looks just blew me away.
32:03They really did.
32:04They were so Paris, runway, Christian Dior, and I just kept wondering, how the hell did she do that?
32:11When you are in a situation like this, and the whole world is watching, yeah, you hot glue things to
32:17your body.
32:18You super glue earrings to your ears.
32:21You see where people's dedication and passion is, and how bad you want this.
32:25Chop off those toes to fit in those shoes.
32:28Yeah.
32:28Now, Santino, you saved your harshest criticism for a Pandora box.
32:32Tell me this, Pandora, how did it feel when you were being critiqued on the runway?
32:37It was horrible.
32:38It's hard to be up there getting critiqued, and it did affect me.
32:41And by the wedding challenge, that's really where I kind of, I had a breakdown.
32:44I had a breakdown in my room because I just went in there and just cried because I was like,
32:48I don't know what to do.
32:49I feel like I'm listening.
32:51I feel like I'm trying to do the best I can and to take everybody's critiques and do it.
32:56But when you're told that I don't like your style, I kind of didn't know where to go from there.
33:00All I could say is, Pandora, do you feel like out of all these queens, you have the best personal
33:06style and you were the most fashionable every challenge?
33:11I definitely don't feel that I was, but that's not my strongest suit.
33:15Sure.
33:16But, you know, I can hire a stylist, and some of these girls in the competition needed a personality lift,
33:20and you can't get one of those.
33:20You're right. You're absolutely right.
33:22And seeing you today, Pandora, I think you look amazing.
33:25I think what you're wearing is funny.
33:29It's young.
33:29You look stylish, hip.
33:32But there were times where you came out and it seemed like it was kind of a rehabbed pageant gown
33:38or something that wasn't quite up to your personality and your comedic timing.
33:43It's about knowing thyself and presenting that on the stage, and you can never go wrong.
33:47The biggest thing I learned is not to second-guess myself because every outfit that got a really harsh critique,
33:51there was another one that I was going to wear instead, and I said, wear that other one.
33:55And I changed my mind at the last minute and just kept what I had on.
33:57So I wish I would have listened to my inner voice that said that, you know, you need to wear
34:01the better outfit.
