00:00:00Oh, what a goal!
00:00:02Oh, look at that! Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rooney O'Hall!
00:00:07Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:49Good evening. We're into the final few weeks of the Premier League season.
00:00:53It's squeaky bum time for Ashley Williams and Joe Hart.
00:00:57And, appropriately, we begin at the bottom.
00:00:59Spurs were two points from safety with six games to play.
00:01:03Roberto de Zerbi's first home game in charge saw him face his former club Brighton.
00:01:07Steve Wilson was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
00:01:09A chronic lack of wins, of goals, of points, of confidence and momentum.
00:01:14The only thing Spurs have had an excess of this season is managers.
00:01:19And their latest Roberto de Zerbi makes four changes
00:01:22with Danso, Bissouma, Bentancur and Simons replacing Romero, Gray, Bergvall and Richarlison.
00:01:30But James Madison amongst the substitutes having missed the entire season so far.
00:01:35Fabian Oertzler, who succeeded to Zerbi at Brighton, makes no changes.
00:01:40They've won five of the last six.
00:01:41They're back in contention for European qualification.
00:01:44But Oertzler will watch this from the stands as he completes a two-game touchline ban.
00:01:54Just under a year ago, Tottenham lost here 4-1 to Brighton.
00:02:00Anything similar today would be nigh on catastrophic.
00:02:07Bissouma can hit them.
00:02:09Van Hecker got a touch on that.
00:02:12It's a corner kick.
00:02:15This is Diego Gomez who's down for Brighton.
00:02:19Does not at the moment look as though he's inclined to get back on his feet and carry on.
00:02:29Karou Mitouma is going to be coming on.
00:02:40Good pace on that.
00:02:41Nodded firmly out as far as Xavi Simons.
00:02:45And wriggling through.
00:02:47It took a deflection.
00:02:48Verbruggen couldn't quite reach it.
00:02:52It came off the calf of Mitouma.
00:03:00Hasn't particularly been a thing of beauty so far, but it certainly feels important.
00:03:07Minta.
00:03:10That's FIFA but Suma got enough on it.
00:03:12A little spin behind for a Brighton corner.
00:03:21Minta's corner for Brighton.
00:03:23Cleared away comfortably at the near post.
00:03:25Kaviolu.
00:03:32Minta.
00:03:33Minta.
00:03:33That's a lovely looking ball.
00:03:34Headed back across.
00:03:35Goal!
00:03:35It's off the woodwork.
00:03:37And right along the line.
00:03:38And Danso's there.
00:03:40Well, the flag has gone up on this near side.
00:03:43Well, at what point did the offside come into play?
00:03:46This is a great ball in by Jankouba Minta.
00:03:48There's no way that's offside.
00:03:51I can't see an offside decision there.
00:03:55It's a big let-off for Tottenham.
00:03:59This is FIFA.
00:04:02Ayari's taken it neatly in his path.
00:04:04Bissouma's tripped in with a yellow card here for Bissouma.
00:04:08Absolutely no doubt about that.
00:04:12Ayari was accelerating dangerously here.
00:04:18Pascal Gross is on this free kick for the visitors.
00:04:22All the yellow shirts are forward.
00:04:24Welbeck went!
00:04:25And Kinski makes the save.
00:04:28And Welbeck was onside, I think.
00:04:31It's a more comfortable save for Kinski than it might have been.
00:04:39Simons for Solanke.
00:04:46Xavi Simons, clever ball, and Tottenham lead!
00:04:52Pedro Poro heads Spurs in front.
00:04:55And that's a huge goal for Tottenham.
00:05:00Well, just when this game was getting difficult for Tottenham Hotspur,
00:05:05Pedro Poro pops up with only his second goal of the season.
00:05:09And Tottenham Hotspur have a priceless lead.
00:05:15Xavi Simons, great vision.
00:05:17Verbruggen came.
00:05:19And once he'd vacated his line, he had to get there first and didn't.
00:05:24Pedro Poro with the slightest of touches.
00:05:27Spurs 1, Brighton 0.
00:05:32In the last four meetings between Tottenham and Brighton, the team which has scored first has failed to win.
00:05:44Here's Solanke, and he's wriggled through, he did superbly well.
00:05:48Xavi Simons and Colin Mouane.
00:05:50Simons, Xavi Simons!
00:05:52Can't believe he hasn't scored.
00:05:54And neither has Pedro Poro.
00:05:58How has that not gone in?
00:06:02Xavi Simons simply has to put that in the net.
00:06:05And Pedro Poro, with his follow-up, sees Verbruggen get a fingertip to it.
00:06:12Oh, they know.
00:06:14They all know.
00:06:16Should have been 2-0.
00:06:21Pascal Gros, that's a good-looking ball, headed out by Danso.
00:06:24Run by Kadiolu.
00:06:26Yasin Ayari for Brighton.
00:06:31Gross.
00:06:33Oh, what a finish that is!
00:06:36It's Kauru Mitoma with a fantastic goal!
00:06:43Kinski did not have a chance.
00:06:47And it's all square.
00:06:50Look at the quality of this.
00:06:53Pascal Gros has swung in some brilliant balls.
00:06:56Here's another.
00:06:58And Mitoma lashes it beyond Kinski.
00:07:06Tottenham haven't won a point at home since they drew with Manchester City here under Thomas Frank on the first
00:07:13day of February.
00:07:15Pedro Poro has made a run forward.
00:07:18Kolo Mouane.
00:07:21Inside of Mitoma, he's found Pedro Poro.
00:07:25Kolo Mouane for Conor Gallagher.
00:07:30Tottenham throw it.
00:07:36And Stuart Atwell is getting a yellow card out for Roberto Di Zerbi.
00:07:43He's nowhere near the technical area and has been dobbed in by the fourth official.
00:07:50There's an awful lot of tension around.
00:07:54Understandably so.
00:07:58Tail half held up by Kadiolu.
00:08:02His cross will be retrieved by Udogi.
00:08:05Xavi Simons.
00:08:09Jaupalinha. Gallagher.
00:08:11Simons.
00:08:12And still blocked by Van Hecker.
00:08:14Jaupalinha!
00:08:16Deflected!
00:08:16And Verbruggen managed to make the save.
00:08:19He's only been on the pitch a few seconds, Jaupalinha.
00:08:25Really good play by Xavi Simons.
00:08:29It's taken a big deflection off Welbeck.
00:08:33And Verbruggen would have seen that late.
00:08:39Chet Spence and Lukas Bergwahl are coming on.
00:08:44So changes are plenty.
00:08:48Spurs have used all their substitutions now.
00:08:51Here's Van Hecker.
00:08:53With Verbruggen nicked it away from him.
00:08:55Instant impact.
00:08:56Finds Xavi Simons.
00:08:57Solanke wants it.
00:08:58Simons darts inside and scores!
00:09:03What a magnificent goal by Xavi Simons for Tottenham Hotspur!
00:09:13What about the contribution here of Bergwahl, who's literally just come on the pitch.
00:09:18He has no right to win that ball, but did so brilliantly.
00:09:22And Xavi Simons does the rest.
00:09:26A spectacular goal from Simons.
00:09:33Spurs 2, Brighton 1.
00:09:39They haven't won a game since the 28th of December, Tottenham Hotspur.
00:09:45Every second that passes now is important for Tottenham.
00:09:48Tottenham Hotspur.
00:09:54Mintic.
00:09:58Drop back into Jankuba, Mintic.
00:10:03Danso was dallying, Van Hecker...
00:10:05Ruter!
00:10:072-2!
00:10:11In the fifth minute of added time at the end of the game.
00:10:15Tottenham have had two points wrenched out of their grasp.
00:10:20What damage has that done to Tottenham Hotspur's season?
00:10:27Well, Mintic put this in.
00:10:31Van Hecker got the better of Danso when he should not have been allowed to.
00:10:36And it's a very smart finish from Ruter.
00:10:39Nothing Kinski could do.
00:10:41And it's two each.
00:10:50Aren't she great?
00:10:54Very nearly got through that very tight congested corner.
00:10:58Brighton trying to ply their way out and they've lost the ball.
00:11:01And Bergwahl! Bergwahl!
00:11:03And Xavi Simons!
00:11:04And Archie Gray!
00:11:06And Van Bruggen with the save!
00:11:09Oh, my goodness me.
00:11:12And it has finished all square.
00:11:17What drama.
00:11:18So close Tottenham Hotspur to ending this long, long, winless run.
00:11:24And two points had gone from Tottenham's tally.
00:11:28Spurs two, Brighton two.
00:11:31It's like a defeat because we conceded goal an extra time,
00:11:36but we played a great game.
00:11:38But today I'm disappointed because I think we deserve to win.
00:11:42Tottenham was quite intense in the first half.
00:11:46Then, second half, we completely controlled the game.
00:11:48I think they didn't have one big chance.
00:11:51Then they had this one special moment from Xavi Simons.
00:11:55That was just the individual quality.
00:11:56Sometimes you can't defend this.
00:11:58But overall, I think it wasn't our best performance.
00:12:01But what we showed us to believe.
00:12:03Obviously, this club played in the Europa League pretty recently.
00:12:06Under De Zerbi, of course.
00:12:07But you'll be very keen to experience that again.
00:12:10Yeah, of course.
00:12:11I think for every player it's good to play your competition.
00:12:14But we don't know how many positions can play it as well.
00:12:17So we'll see. But we have to take game per game.
00:12:20We don't have time for the disappointment.
00:12:23The first half is very good for us.
00:12:28I remember the team pressed very well.
00:12:32I think this is the most important today.
00:12:34We have to play another five games.
00:12:37We have time enough.
00:12:40We have qualities enough.
00:12:43And I don't like the people who cry or who think too much.
00:12:48Or to be negative.
00:12:51They have to change work.
00:12:53And I don't like these people.
00:12:55So they know how I think in football.
00:13:00How I think in my life.
00:13:02And we have to be together.
00:13:05With the focus on the next game.
00:13:08De Zerbi direct with his communication there.
00:13:11And letting us all know what he wants.
00:13:12The stakes are high.
00:13:13And the atmosphere was really intense.
00:13:15Wasn't it?
00:13:15It was a great watch.
00:13:16But a gut-wrenching finish for Spurs, Joe.
00:13:19Let's start with the positives.
00:13:21Well, he's identified what he doesn't want to see.
00:13:23But what he wanted to see.
00:13:24He wanted to get that stadium rocking.
00:13:26And the way that they pressed, I think, was really, really good.
00:13:29Really impressive, in fact.
00:13:30It's not the Spurs that we've been used to.
00:13:32It's not the Spurs we've seen this season.
00:13:34He's obviously got previous with Verbruggen.
00:13:36But he wanted to set the atmosphere.
00:13:37Now, every single one of his players right now is running forward.
00:13:41They're running forward with intent.
00:13:42They're blocking the passing lanes.
00:13:44They're requiring Brighton to be perfect.
00:13:45And they're not giving up.
00:13:46It's a relentless press from Tottenham.
00:13:49And they're eventually going to have a lot of success from it.
00:13:53But it's so aggressive.
00:13:54Like I say, it's the passing lanes.
00:13:55It's the second press.
00:13:56It's the passing once they turn it over.
00:13:59It's a real threat.
00:14:00And that's where the first goal comes over.
00:14:01Conor Gallagher, the whole game, was on the front foot.
00:14:04Solanke working hard.
00:14:05You know, he's not just a striker who wants to score goals.
00:14:08He wants to work hard.
00:14:09But it's all very well and good pressing.
00:14:11But what are you going to do when you win it back?
00:14:12That's when you want to get your creative players on the ball.
00:14:15Xavi Simmers just picks up that little pocket.
00:14:17Only players like him see those passes.
00:14:20And really brave from Pedro Porro.
00:14:21And that was a really important goal.
00:14:23And the whole stadium was rocking.
00:14:24Second half, Conor Gallagher.
00:14:26Sees Verbruggen.
00:14:27Slightly hesitating.
00:14:29Jumps all over it.
00:14:30They're the kind of things that Tottenham fans want to see.
00:14:32Now, you'll see Bart Verbruggen here.
00:14:34He passes it into Van Hecker and he's saying,
00:14:36don't worry, you've got loads of options.
00:14:37You've got time.
00:14:38But it's very apparent that he hasn't.
00:14:40Once he takes this touch, he looks up.
00:14:42Simmers is all over Wiffer.
00:14:43He knows he can't get into the middle three.
00:14:47And, oh, brilliant from Bergwil.
00:14:48Picks his pocket.
00:14:49And again, what do you do once you turn it over?
00:14:51You let your brilliant players show what they can do.
00:14:54This is an exceptional finish from Xavi Simmers.
00:14:56And once they put him in dangerous areas,
00:14:58he proved what a top-class player he is today.
00:15:01And I feel like De Zebre knew.
00:15:02I feel like he knew that he could really get Brighton
00:15:04with his previous working with some of their players.
00:15:07You've got Verbruggen.
00:15:08You've got Van Hecker.
00:15:10And you've also got Gross as well.
00:15:12He knows that if you can block those passing lanes,
00:15:15that Verbruggen will dither.
00:15:17You can catch him.
00:15:18Proven these are under De Zebre when he worked with him at Brighton.
00:15:21And you can turn it over.
00:15:23You can get easy wins and you can score big goals.
00:15:25And I feel like he really played on that today.
00:15:27And it was a great example of the top work that Tottenham did.
00:15:30Yeah, using his intel there.
00:15:33Two goals from high turnovers today and only four all season.
00:15:37So a definite shift in style.
00:15:39Yeah, 100%.
00:15:40And like I say, that's what the stadium wants to see.
00:15:42They're a little bit lost in that Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the moment.
00:15:45But when they pressed and when they looked dangerous,
00:15:47and again turning it over and getting people like Xavi Simons on the ball,
00:15:49it was really impressive.
00:15:51OK, we've done the positive.
00:15:52So let's talk defence.
00:15:53And you particularly want to have a look at Pedro Porro.
00:15:55Yeah, because I think attacking-wise, he had a very good game.
00:15:59We just saw his goal there.
00:16:01And he's the type of full-back that likes to play on the front foot.
00:16:05Here we see his team ranks first in goals, shots on target, touches,
00:16:08passing the final third, final third entries, crosses.
00:16:11That's all well and good.
00:16:12That's great.
00:16:13But when you're in a relegation battle, you need your defenders to defend.
00:16:17And he's a full-back.
00:16:18Here we've highlighted it.
00:16:20Cross comes in.
00:16:20Danso clears that.
00:16:21That's fine.
00:16:22They get another chance.
00:16:23You would like Simons to be a bit close to Gross to stop the cross.
00:16:27He doesn't.
00:16:27That is a brilliant cross.
00:16:28But right at this point in time, Pedro Porro must recognise,
00:16:31this ball is now going over my head.
00:16:33I need to readjust my balance and my weight.
00:16:36Take a few steps back and then get in line with Matoma and the goal.
00:16:41Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant goal, but he can do better.
00:16:44If you keep your eye on Pedro Porro, we've highlighted here, Minta.
00:16:48As a full-back, one of your bases is stop the cross coming into the box.
00:16:51That's not a good enough effort.
00:16:52He now looks like he's got some sort of injury or a cramp.
00:16:55He's signalling to the bench that he has a problem.
00:17:00This is the next play.
00:17:01So if Pedro Porro has a problem physically, that's understandable.
00:17:05But now stay next to your centre-back and defend your lead, defend your goal.
00:17:10You can't press fast ten yards like that.
00:17:13Minta, your winger runs off the back of you and you don't go back into that slot with him.
00:17:18You need to be next to Danso and keep the defence tight.
00:17:22Paulinho does a job for his friend Porro.
00:17:25And then, yes, Danso should clear that, but that's a mistake.
00:17:29And it ends up with Rutter, who scores the goal.
00:17:32So the fact that Porro has pressed out and doesn't get back then Paulinho,
00:17:37it's like a chain of mistakes right there.
00:17:39And it's such an important thing.
00:17:41So, yes, Porro did have a good game offensively,
00:17:43but if you're going to stay in the league, you need your defensive unit to defend.
00:17:47Deservey said there, didn't he, in the press conference,
00:17:49that he doesn't like criers and he likes positive people.
00:17:52He doesn't like negativity.
00:17:53I feel like he's almost sending that message back into that dressing room
00:17:58as much as telling us that.
00:17:59Has he got enough of those players he's describing?
00:18:03He's not got a lot of them.
00:18:04There's no doubt about it.
00:18:05Tottenham are very much players that are going to be used to playing,
00:18:07having possession of the ball.
00:18:09When it's good, they show their skills.
00:18:10But that's his job.
00:18:11That's what he's been brought in to do.
00:18:13Toughen them up.
00:18:13Show them the tough love.
00:18:14Get them pressing on the front foot.
00:18:16But they've got to defend better as a unit.
00:18:18OK.
00:18:19Thanks for the moment.
00:18:20Wolves were facing relegation this weekend if results went against them.
00:18:23Leeds United moved six points clear of the bottom three
00:18:26by beating Manchester United on Monday.
00:18:30It is Manchester United against Leeds United.
00:18:36Okafor!
00:18:37Instinctive reaction!
00:18:39Manchester United looking disarray at the moment.
00:18:42And Leeds have got their second!
00:18:44It's a red card for Lissandro Martinez.
00:18:49Casemiro's unmarked.
00:18:50There's the goal back!
00:18:52Leeds first ever Premier League win at Old Trafford.
00:18:58Martin Fisher was at Elland Road.
00:19:02What a fantastic fortnight it has been for Leeds United.
00:19:06And now with an FA Cup semi-final on the horizon,
00:19:09it's time to take another huge step towards securing their Premier League survival.
00:19:14Something Wolves stopped dreaming about months ago.
00:19:17Their relegation has been when rather than if for ages.
00:19:20And that win could be over the next few days.
00:19:23Maybe even tonight.
00:19:25Leeds unchanged from Monday.
00:19:27Noah Okafor's brace, meaning it's four in four league games for him.
00:19:32Jose Saar has a shoulder injury.
00:19:34So Dan Bentley makes his first start since May.
00:19:37Totti replaces the suspended Mascara.
00:19:44Leeds begin the day on 36 points,
00:19:47a tally that has been enough to survive in each of the last nine seasons.
00:19:51However, it's so tight down there,
00:19:53nobody is certain what the magic number will be this year.
00:19:58And Purdue's powerful header.
00:20:00Calvert-Lewin was interested momentarily.
00:20:02Okafor ceases on the loose ball, Okafor in for Calvert.
00:20:05Lewin stretching and Bentley caught into action immediately with a good block.
00:20:09And he's there to grab it, second time I'm asking.
00:20:12Well, Leeds were off to a flyer on Monday at Old Trafford,
00:20:15even quicker here.
00:20:17Okafor was in, tried to tee up Calvert-Lewin,
00:20:19and that will do Bentley's confidence the world of good.
00:20:23Daniel Farker looking for his first ever back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
00:20:30Hasn't done it this season with Leeds,
00:20:32and failed to do it in his time with Norwich.
00:20:35And Purdue for Justin.
00:20:39Towards Calvert-Lewin, brilliantly headed away initially by Tossi,
00:20:42and then turned behind by Chatua.
00:20:46Tossi stretching to make sure that he not only got to it first,
00:20:50but he cleared it well away from immediate danger.
00:20:53Now Tanaka with the corner for Leeds,
00:20:56Biel, Strouk, and Calvert-Lewin, the likely recipients.
00:20:59It's Strouk's header and Calvert-Lewin back post, and it's off the line.
00:21:03Armstrong it was with the heroics for Wolves, more work to be done though.
00:21:08Okafor, Ampadu, blocked by Krejci.
00:21:15Well, Leeds have gone close twice already.
00:21:23Biel away, the slip was by Krejci.
00:21:27Galloping into space is Aronson.
00:21:30Calvert-Lewin wanted it in early.
00:21:32And a chance to earn Leeds United another corner.
00:21:41Leeds have had all the chances.
00:21:44Game won by Leeds, and another great save by Ben Clay,
00:21:48but the follow-up is in.
00:21:50What a finish by James Justin.
00:21:55Well, to say that goal has been coming is an understatement,
00:21:58but it didn't arrive before another fine reflex save
00:22:01at point-blank range by Dan Bentley.
00:22:04But James Justin on hand with a brilliant piece of athleticism
00:22:09to score with an overhead kick to an Ackers corner.
00:22:13Again, Leeds win the first phase and the second.
00:22:15It was Ampadu denied, but Leeds would not be denied.
00:22:20James Justin, with his third goal for the club,
00:22:23puts Leeds United in front.
00:22:25Their first league goal here since February the 6th.
00:22:30Leeds United 1, Wolverhampton, Wanderers 0.
00:22:36Aronson.
00:22:38Okafor galloping forward, far side.
00:22:40Aronson looking for him.
00:22:42He's found him, and it's 2-0 Leeds!
00:22:46Well, he cannot stop scoring at the moment.
00:22:49But what a ball from Aronson.
00:22:52It's another giant step towards Premier League survival
00:22:56for Leeds United.
00:22:57And they've still got five games to play.
00:23:00It's sloppy from Wolves.
00:23:02Aronson straight away gets his head up.
00:23:04Straight away Okafor is sprinting in towards the penalty area.
00:23:10Such a confident finish.
00:23:12Well, you'd expect that from a man that's now scored five in his last five league games.
00:23:17Leeds, two to the good.
00:23:19Less than 90 seconds between the two goals.
00:23:28Here's Mane trying to do something for Wolves far side, he did ever so well.
00:23:38Armstrong had made the wrong move in the end.
00:23:46He posts them, that's a great save by Darlow.
00:23:50Terrific delivery in the first place from Hugo Bueno.
00:23:54Krejci attacked it, it's a good strong hand from Carl Darlow, who actually was initially going the other way.
00:24:02And his thoughts will have been turning towards next season of the Championship for quite a while now, Rob Edwards.
00:24:15Charles Gomez with the back heel, it's Hugo Bueno.
00:24:19Handball against Beal, in goes Rodrigo Gomez, and from there surely has to hit the target.
00:24:26By a country mile, that's the best chance that Wolves have fashioned all game.
00:24:29And Rodrigo Gomez has only just come on off the bench, guilty of a really poor attempt at goal.
00:24:42Quang, Armstrong in behind the Leeds defence, and Armstrong scores!
00:24:47But the flag is up, it won't count.
00:24:55Armstrong was ahead of last man Pascal Stroup,
00:24:57Tidy finished by Armstrong all the same, wasn't it?
00:24:59A man who loves playing against Leeds,
00:25:01before his last four games against them.
00:25:05VAR have confirmed the on-field decision.
00:25:13Lifted forward by Bogle, Nonto is hovering, Stroup is hitting and it's just wide!
00:25:22Nonto's touch perfectly into his path, always just bending away from the far post.
00:25:35Lofted forward by Tanaka, it's Nonto.
00:25:37So, Calvert-Lewin is in the box, will he get there? Was he fouled?
00:25:41Yes, he was.
00:25:43Farrar Hallam hesitated momentarily.
00:25:47And it's a yellow card for Hugo Bueno.
00:25:50And it's going to be an opportunity from the penalty spot for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to make it three.
00:25:57He's onside as the ball is released.
00:25:59There's the push in his back by the Wolves defender as Bentley came out.
00:26:05And he's caught him with his left leg as well.
00:26:09Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the chance to make it 3-0 Leeds.
00:26:14And he has the chance to score his third Premier League penalty of this campaign.
00:26:19He has missed one at Crystal Palace.
00:26:22He went to the keeper's right and missed the target in that one.
00:26:25Goes that way but tucks it in.
00:26:28The net below, Calvert-Lewin celebrates.
00:26:31And Leeds, who have barely offered much offensively in the second half,
00:26:36have their third goal of the afternoon.
00:26:39And it moves them nine points clear of the bottom three with five games still to play.
00:26:48Leeds marching on to survival.
00:26:50Back-to-back wins for the first time in the Premier League this season.
00:26:54Wolves' misery almost complete.
00:26:56Their 22nd defeat of the campaign.
00:26:58It finishes Leeds three, Wolves nil.
00:27:02No doubt, it was fully deserved.
00:27:04Fantastic first half, also second half.
00:27:06For us, you could feel normally in such a game,
00:27:08you are sometimes even a bit nervous if you don't score the third goal.
00:27:11And they could play also with a bit less pressure, perhaps,
00:27:15because the fate is more or less clear.
00:27:18Then there are always one or two nervy moments.
00:27:20Anyhow, but it was important also to protect the clean sheet.
00:27:23And then this one moment where we needed also our goalkeeper.
00:27:25Car was there, it was a really world-class save.
00:27:28And then good to score the third goal.
00:27:30Overall, very proud of my nets.
00:27:32People want to hear it after a defeat, and it's a 3-0 defeat.
00:27:35But there were some things there that we can continue to build on and get better in.
00:27:40And there are some good things that are happening.
00:27:43The boys are with it.
00:27:44They are with it.
00:27:45So that's really important now that we turn up and fight in every single moment,
00:27:52whether that's in training every day or every game.
00:27:55An incredible week.
00:27:56All I wanted is to get as many points from these two games.
00:28:01Now we have back to back win, six points.
00:28:04I'm really happy and really proud of all of our team.
00:28:07We have to keep going like this.
00:28:09What incredible six days.
00:28:11That historic win at Old Trafford, a six-point week.
00:28:13No signs of a hangover from Monday night at all.
00:28:16How did they do it?
00:28:17No, absolutely not.
00:28:18They came out of the traps really fast, really aggressive.
00:28:21Playing with good intensity on the front foot.
00:28:24They've got a really strong spine of the team leads,
00:28:26which allows them to have this flexibility in wide areas.
00:28:29Here we see Tanaka, Goodmanson and Okafor.
00:28:33And the rotations are just good.
00:28:34It's an in-to-out run from Okafor.
00:28:36And then he's got the skill, the technique and the ability to put a ball in like this.
00:28:41But as you can see on the other side, they're not shy of getting bodies into the box and getting
00:28:45players forward.
00:28:47This is the right-hand side that I'm highlighting.
00:28:49It's Justin Bogle and Aronson now on the right-hand side.
00:28:51And the flexibility, the rotations, the movement they go with.
00:28:55Justin just gets on his bike.
00:28:56He doesn't worry about what's behind him at all.
00:28:58And it creates problems in wide areas for Wolves, where they probably haven't got as many numbers as Leeds.
00:29:04Another good ball in, this time it's defended well.
00:29:07But you can see where the problems are starting to arise.
00:29:10This is, if you look at the reaction and the desire to score a goal from Leeds
00:29:14compared to the desire to stop a goal from Wolves, it's completely night and day.
00:29:19That's Aronson on the front foot, past Bueno.
00:29:21And then you've got Chacha on the other side, who's one of the fastest players in the league,
00:29:25gets outran by Okafor and he scores his goal.
00:29:28And that's what Leeds were all about today.
00:29:30They got the game won in the first half.
00:29:31They came out really fast, really confident in what they were doing.
00:29:35And they looked like there was only one team in it.
00:29:38The form table is interesting reading for Leeds.
00:29:40And it all goes back to the end of November, that game against Manchester City.
00:29:44And that might have been the pivotal moment for them of the season,
00:29:47because it was mid-game, wasn't it, that Farker changed his system.
00:29:51And since then, they're a top half table, or at least they're, you know, middle of the table.
00:29:56Yeah, they've been excellent.
00:29:57I actually didn't, even when they were losing before that game, I didn't mind them.
00:30:00Like Ash talked about, good spine.
00:30:02They were working for each other.
00:30:04They were making Ellen Road really difficult.
00:30:05But from that moment on, I think it coincided with obviously the Calvert-Lewin scoring
00:30:09and their confidence has just gone on and on and on.
00:30:12And they could have a really great season if they keep pushing like they are.
00:30:15Yeah, and I've got the FA Cup as well, Ashley, against Chelsea,
00:30:18who they've already had a victory over this season.
00:30:21They'll be feeling confident.
00:30:22You can see that against Manchester United and today.
00:30:25They're confident, they feel good about themselves.
00:30:26It could be European football for them next season.
00:30:29And avoiding relegation.
00:30:30Let's see though, because of course, they're still technically in the fight.
00:30:34Six teams have gone down on 39 points in Premier League history.
00:30:37Daniel Farker said, look, it's a special season, we might need more.
00:30:40You expect them to get more from the running that they've got.
00:30:44Eight points clear of Spurs.
00:30:47Of the four that go into one, who for you at the moment is looking like the team
00:30:54that has not got the equipment to survive?
00:30:57Well, I just think Leeds have got so much positivity going on around them.
00:31:01That result obviously with Forest, that semi-final, something they can look forward to now.
00:31:05West Ham have picked up, it's just Tottenham.
00:31:07You can't help but put Tottenham into it.
00:31:09But that away game at Wolves is absolutely huge for De Zebra.
00:31:13Wolves, of course, could be relegated if West Ham avoid defeat on Monday at Crystal Palace.
00:31:17I don't know whether that affects the kind of mindset going into a game like that.
00:31:22Is that better or worse for Spurs?
00:31:24I think it's better for Spurs, I've got to be honest.
00:31:26Whilst Wolves have got something to fight for, they're going to be a more difficult team to play against.
00:31:31But the games, especially the games where they're playing each other, are the ones that are really going to make
00:31:35a difference, I think.
00:31:36Huge game for Forest, of course, against Burnley tomorrow as well.
00:31:39Yeah, massive. These are must-win games now for those teams we've highlighted.
00:31:44OK, thank you very much, guys.
00:31:45Chelsea had lost three in a row to fall behind in the race for a top five finish.
00:31:50Manchester United knew victory would go a long way to securing their place in the Champions League.
00:31:54Jonathan Pearce was at Stamford Bridge.
00:31:57Monday's defeat by Leeds leaves Manchester United, looking over their shoulder at the teams below them in the chase for
00:32:03Champions League places,
00:32:05including Chelsea, who since the start of March have lost more games in all competitions than any side in Europe's
00:32:11top five leagues.
00:32:12The home side bring Enzo Fernandes back in from the cold of his two-match club suspension, with Andre Santos
00:32:18dropping to the bench.
00:32:19And Liam Delac gets his first league start since January, with Chao Pedro sideline with a thigh problem.
00:32:24They've lost their last three league games without scoring for the first time since March 1998.
00:32:29Manchester United have real problems at centre-half, with Maguire and Martínez suspended on Euro's sideline with a training injury.
00:32:3619-year-old Aidan Heaven gets his first league start since January, partnering Maz Raui, with Dalo returning at right
00:32:42-back among four changes, along with the return of Mainu and Mbumo.
00:32:45They've just won clean sheets in their last 21-away league game.
00:32:49Newcastle, the...
00:32:52Pesedo, up to the downside.
00:32:55And to Fernandes, not returning with the armband.
00:33:01Pesedo, lovely ball forward. Palmer into the penalty area, goes down.
00:33:06Runs clear, referee unimpressed.
00:33:14Move to
00:33:15the two defenders and seemed to be sandwiched heaven was sliding in
00:33:20Chelsea head coach convinced the challenge was outside the penalty area
00:33:25so you know I couldn't intervene
00:33:31he's only let off for Manchester United
00:33:38Neto
00:33:42Neto right up there in support having played it up to Parma
00:33:45Estevão
00:33:49get it cleanly away for a goal kick
00:33:53Chelsea muttering about a corner
00:33:56just shaved the woodwork for me
00:34:01Michael Carrick's 12th game in charge he's won seven of them
00:34:05won everything he could as a player at Manchester United really
00:34:11Shaw
00:34:13comes to
00:34:15comes to the lap and off to Estevão
00:34:19and Estevão's hobbling away from this
00:34:24good chance for Chelsea again they've had a couple now he just stumbled there Estevão
00:34:29the shot lacked any conviction and he hobbles away and he's down on the ground now
00:34:34I think as he stumbled
00:34:36it affected his hamstring
00:34:39and Garnaccio's going to come on and that's the end of the action for Estevão
00:34:48into Fernandes
00:34:50Palma
00:34:52Delaccio made the runoff him Neto scoops it in good ball Garnaccio's first touch off the bench
00:34:59greeted by ironic jeers from the Manchester United fans lovely build-up this clever ball couldn't stretch
00:35:14away by Dano Cucurro races onto it typically aggressive play from him that's a fine challenge well read by heaven
00:35:22not only did he read it well but he covered the ground so quickly
00:35:28back in London he comes from Enfield
00:35:30there's the West Ham academy as a kid then Arsenal here's Fernandes
00:35:40just the wrong side of the post
00:35:45stole it back Manchester United dawgling
00:35:52made it
00:35:56here's a boomer around the corner Chelsea temporarily down to 10 Casada's filling in it's under back
00:36:02it's a good run Bruno Fernandes there's the cutback chance 1-0
00:36:06lovely goal Cunha from Manchester United really well worked
00:36:1243 minutes on the clock
00:36:14well crafted well executed
00:36:17and Chelsea were temporarily down to 10 with Fofana off the field of play
00:36:25and did that make a huge difference there
00:36:27Bruno Fernandes did really well
00:36:30and into that gap where Fofana would have been
00:36:34stole
00:36:35Mateus Cunha
00:36:37Manchester United are ahead with Cunha's eighth goal of the campaign
00:36:41big goal there
00:36:43they've scored with their first effort on goal
00:36:50Buno for Manchester United
00:36:52Dalat streaking up through the middle
00:36:54Cesco going some lick as well
00:36:57little touch by Cunha
00:36:58comes to Bruno Fernandes
00:37:01goes for goal
00:37:06promising counter that came to nothing
00:37:07and he's acknowledged there to his teammates it possibly wasn't the best option
00:37:14team effort
00:37:19Hato
00:37:21and Fofana
00:37:23and Augusto
00:37:25Neto needs to get across in early he does so that's dangerous headed on
00:37:29Dilat so unlucky
00:37:33Chelsea's best move of the game
00:37:36crowd responds
00:37:38Neto
00:37:38it was a delicious ball in from him
00:37:41Dilat has taken that very well
00:37:44the shot is deflected up and over
00:37:47blind well directed the header
00:37:49and it came back off the woodwork
00:37:53difficult games for them to come
00:37:56Forest at home were fighting for their lives
00:37:57Liverpool away
00:37:58could be a straight shootout for a European place
00:38:02Tottenham at home in their relegation battle
00:38:03Sunderland
00:38:05now Fernandes it was given away by Parma
00:38:07and he looks
00:38:09for Benjamin Cesco
00:38:11isolated with Paicedo last man back
00:38:14he's gone inside and breezed inside and Bruno Fernandes will have a go
00:38:17a goal will he
00:38:17he caught in two lines the shot is deflected needed to be saved
00:38:21but Bruno Fernandes didn't know whether to shoot and push out wide to
00:38:25Pateus Cunho was really well positioned
00:38:27he tried to release there to Cunho and there's this bizarre deflection
00:38:31and Sanchez has to make the save
00:38:45here's Neto with the cross brilliant cross might have been an ungoal hit the woodwork again
00:38:50nearly whistled there did Michael Oliver
00:38:56that
00:38:56now that wouldn't have counted because there was a handball in there by Fofana
00:38:59before
00:39:00Masraou hit his own bar
00:39:03here's Gusteau
00:39:04I don't remember this yet though
00:39:06Dilap up to Kukureya who's fouled
00:39:11it's got caught high by Masraou in stretching for the ball
00:39:14it was his body follow-through that buffeted into Kukureya on the thigh
00:39:19called Palma stands over it and has a go hits the wall back to Palma hit the wall again
00:39:26Kukureya touches it back goes down under the effects of a challenge
00:39:30that might be checked you know because he was in the penalty area
00:39:34Kukureya when he was caught
00:39:38now here's Neto
00:39:43back to Neto again
00:39:46he's ballooned it
00:39:50they're going to check the challenge on Kukureya here
00:39:53Casemiro in going for the ball won it
00:39:56and the follow-through caught Kukureya he's won the ball for me
00:40:09Garnaccio
00:40:14bypasses Chaliver
00:40:15come to Kosena with the hits
00:40:20gave that a real ping
00:40:26not far wide
00:40:35staring into the face of another defeat
00:40:37Liam Rossini
00:40:39four penalty defeats in a row without scoring a goal
00:40:44and that would be the first time I've suffered that sort of run since early 1998
00:40:49delighted with the performance to come here and win
00:40:51I know they're having a bit of a challenging time results-wise
00:40:54but they're a tough team to play against we've got good players
00:40:57we had to be disciplined and work hard and the attitude was top draw from the boys tonight
00:41:02and we got the win which we're obviously delighted about
00:41:05how difficult is it to take this current run as another defeat for you
00:41:08yes
00:41:10so difficult
00:41:12yeah
00:41:12today
00:41:13have one shot on target when we're down to 10 men
00:41:16on a restart
00:41:17and then we have wave after wave of attack
00:41:19we think we've hit the woodwork four times
00:41:21and I don't want my players or my team to feel like everything's against us
00:41:26we have to keep working we have to keep fighting
00:41:29and that's what we'll do on on tuesday night
00:41:31young aiden heaven that was an eye-catching performance from them at centre-back
00:41:34i think it's something like eight or nine stars he's had for you this season
00:41:37he's got some potential hasn't he
00:41:39i'm delighted for him tonight because it's uh
00:41:41it's not easy to come into a game like that
00:41:43uh and and especially alongside a a new kind of pair and a noose news was new in that position
00:41:48for us tonight so between the two of them deserve a lot of credit
00:41:52well they only won one nil and only had one shot on target but doesn't matter when your big players
00:41:57step up and make it count yeah they certainly weren't their best tonight but as you say gabby the
00:42:01big players were involved in everything everything positive for them see kukurea getting caught up
00:42:06high bwemo he's a leader of this line isn't he when he really wants to gets his head down
00:42:11bursting in behind and this was a chance this is one of their very few chances but especially in
00:42:15the first half we've highlighted kunya arriving from that left-hand side it's actually a really
00:42:20good pass but it's a heavy touch we actually held our breath in the studio we thought we'd nailed him
00:42:24but he hadn't which allowed him to play on fernandez he's been absolutely instrumental man united's
00:42:30most important player deals with garnacho gets the ball in cesco just deals with caicedo in the middle
00:42:36and that is a brilliant finish from kunya absolutely superb that's a big game player right
00:42:41there and they've got a bit of a centre-back crisis so for aiden heaven this is an opportunity
00:42:45as much for him isn't it to impress his manager and he did yeah really good today we watched
00:42:50lenny yara martinez get bullied on monday by dominic cavalier and this boy comes in he's only 19
00:42:56years old and he had an excellent game you can see straight away in this first clip what he's all
00:43:01about
00:43:02bang big tackle let's let's the lap know that he's there and he's he's in the game again here
00:43:08senses danger quick across the ground clears the danger straight away in possession can start attacks
00:43:15also that's a great pass through lines gets his team going and then it all game he did things like
00:43:21this just getting himself in between a shot and the goal which is so important sometimes today i think
00:43:28defenders are so caught up on what they do in possession they they don't concentrate on on
00:43:33bits like this that get your team a clean sheet which seems simple but it's not his body shape's
00:43:38great he knows where the striker is he knows where the ball's coming in clears the danger and big praise
00:43:43from his manager i thought he was excellent today a little wobble on monday but they're now 10 points
00:43:47clear of chelsea in that hunt for a champions league place and and it's looking very good for them for
00:43:53next season yeah that was a really big result i don't think they saw monday night coming i think that
00:43:56shocked them you know obviously they've been such a positive vein of form since michael's come in
00:44:00but that was a big victory and as as ash was talking about there it was a proper hard working
00:44:04victory
00:44:05and they had one chance really and they took it they'll be absolutely delighted with that
00:44:09well as for chelsea at their last 10 results don't make very good reading do they for liam rosenia there
00:44:16so you've got three wins and two of those were against lower league opposition in the fa cup so just
00:44:22that one premier league win uh the ownership has said uh we think we are behind liam of course it's
00:44:29a results business but we think he can be successful long term joe yeah i think those quotes some some
00:44:36chelsea up at the moment there's a lot of unrest there was a protest before the game today
00:44:39the senior started so positives plenty of w's next to his name but over recent times that's not what chelsea
00:44:45will want they're not the results that they're in this business for and they're right on the edge of
00:44:50this kind of champions league spots at the moment but they've got an fa cup opportunity but that's
00:44:54not good enough for chelsea yeah we've talked about that being an opportunity for leeds for chelsea
00:44:58it puts a very different gloss doesn't it over the season it's almost a necessity yeah it seems like
00:45:03a must-win trophy for them to make the season look a little bit better than than it does because
00:45:08they
00:45:09want to be fighting in the you know the right at the very top of the premier league and they're
00:45:12not at the
00:45:13minute okay uh four games in sunday's match of the day i wonder which one will top the bill
00:45:20oh great ball mark yeah he outstanding finish picture your press
00:45:26in good power mckinn perfectly executed
00:45:31lordy mckinney has a grid as wide as the weir
00:45:34geoffrey hall arrows it into the far corner
00:45:38and gamawa oh australia
00:45:42william that's what they need it great goal
00:45:45siam fleming for berkeley
00:45:50five live premier league sunday will be across all the action from midday listen on bbc sounds it's the

00:46:09you missed the start of the show it's available now on iplayer along with edits of every single match
00:46:15well bournemouth have seemingly wasted no time finding a replacement for andoni areola who'll leave
00:46:20at the end of the season they've agreed a deal in principle with former rb leipzig boss marco rosa
00:46:26iriola's farewell tour began at newcastle alistair mann was at st james's park
00:46:32newcastle are today boosted by the welcome sight of captain bruno gimarias albeit on the bench
00:46:37they've lost six of the 12 games he's missed there are three changes but one notable absentee
00:46:43anthony gordon with what's described as a minor injury the euphoria in achieving a notable win at
00:46:50arsenal last weekend was quickly offset by andoni iriola's decision to leave the club
00:46:54but his legacy would certainly be enhanced should he qualify bournemouth for a first ever european
00:47:00journey he's understandably left his side unchanged from the one so impressive at the emirates
00:47:19and the way that they move the ball across from side to side is so easy on the eye
00:47:35and once the ball moves to rayan he takes on hall dangerous ball in and tavernier was just too hungry
00:47:45for it
00:47:50as it is good value for the lead
00:47:55scott wins it again
00:47:58croupie scott once more another dangerous ball evan nielsen's in the back of the net the ball isn't
00:48:06and the newcastle fans vent their fury well that could easily have been number two and in some ways
00:48:12you feel it ought to have been they opened up newcastle and when the cross came in from scott
00:48:20evan nielsen you felt was going to help it over the line he ended in the net
00:48:24the ball didn't accompany it his manager cannot believe it
00:48:34barnes
00:48:36that's a foul by jimenez
00:48:41could have been booked for that
00:48:49the out swinger from hall it's a beauty and a save by petrovic
00:48:59the check was complete as to whether the ball had crossed the line
00:49:04petrovic hasn't had a save to make until now
00:49:08who gets the final touch here it's a defender it's scott
00:49:13it hits scott last there and that's a brilliant save from petrovic
00:49:20normally so watertight here newcastle have lost four of their last five games in the premier league at
00:49:27st james's park and in response and trailing again eddie howe has made an alteration bringing on
00:49:33long-time club captain kieran trippier to replace lewis hall
00:49:41further over jimenez again it's a corner the speed with which bournemouth get forward is devastating
00:49:49they have the first corner of the second half
00:49:53let's see of a block from botman
00:49:57oh it's a free header for kruppi and kruppi immediately said that's a handball that blocked it
00:50:05i don't think it's botman's arm came off botman's chest
00:50:11here comes the captain bruno gimoraes well if anyone can lift spirits this guy can
00:50:30get to it here's usula can he find a way through yes he does and bruno gimoraes has an assist
00:50:40and the flag has gone up
00:50:41the flag's gone up well var will look at it and study it and just make sure but usula's celebrations
00:50:51are cut short
00:50:52oh it's a tight one this bruno gimoraes with the ball through
00:50:58is usula just in front of the last defender at the point at which the ball is played
00:51:05oh var studying this carefully is that evan nielsen that hits that ball last i think it might be evan
00:51:15nielsen and not bruno gimoraes who plays that ball
00:51:23after review there is clear evidence that bournemouth number nine plays the ball forward
00:51:29the final figure it's a goal it was evan nielsen it is one one well the irony that it was
00:51:38not a
00:51:39through ball by bruno gimoraes after all is what's given newcastle the equaliser it was the tackle from
00:51:46evan nielsen and as a consequence usula cannot be given offside and newcastle make it one one
00:52:02well now livermento's pulled up within seconds of newcastle leveling you can almost see the moment
00:52:13that it happens
00:52:15a worrying statistic newcastle have conceded 22 goals in the last 15 minutes of matches this season
00:52:29and they've conceded again in the last 15 minutes of a match newcastle
00:52:39it is the worst of habits and newcastle continue to do it and true fair is the latest to celebrate
00:52:47and it's his first bournemouth goal
00:52:51and then stood up by tavernier up went evan nielsen and true fair got there in front of tonali
00:52:59and newcastle buoyed by their equaliser and now deflated once more
00:53:07murphy plenty forward for newcastle
00:53:11i don't know if his cross beats the lot of them botman will keep it in
00:53:15it's done well botman and the cross breaks oh and bruno gimoraes is stopped by petrovic
00:53:24that's the second smart save that the bournemouth goalkeeper has made
00:53:29it is a newcastle corner
00:53:33the swung in no one burn damn burn met it but couldn't steer it
00:53:41headed over from a great position by burn
00:53:46scott
00:53:48true fair
00:53:52well that sound tells its own story the chorus of boos as newcastle are beaten once more
00:54:00and doni iraio may be leaving in the summer but his legacy might just be a first ever
00:54:08european journey for bournemouth
00:54:11you told the players that you're moving on in the summer was there any concern about how they
00:54:16may react in this particular match immediately after you are always worried because when you give this
00:54:22kind of news you don't know how everyone is going to react even if it's not because of this but
00:54:28if we
00:54:28lose today probably everyone will say no he told the players so now if but i trust my players a
00:54:34lot
00:54:34if anything it's made the the players want to play run that harder that the extra extra yard harder for
00:54:40him and i want to finish the season off off with something special and in that sense he's he's done
00:54:46a lot for this for this club and for and for the players in it so it's only right that
00:54:50we show him that
00:54:52reaction in that sense to to finish it off something that that we can remember remember for a long time
00:54:57what does it feel like as a manager when you hear obviously sections were so unhappy at the
00:55:02end there what does it feel like to you yeah obviously that's disappointing when you're um
00:55:07not delivering what you want for your supporters and um that really hurts i think that's the ultimate
00:55:12disappointment really when you feel like you're letting people down you spoke yesterday about
00:55:15your fire being as strong as ever do the players have the same fire inside and stuff
00:55:27yeah i mean i i'm hesitating because i'm speaking on behalf of other people and that's very difficult
00:55:32to do um i believe they do and as i say from from what i see in the training ground
00:55:37i don't see any
00:55:39sense of poor attitude or poor commitment to their work i see a group of players that are always
00:55:45um giving their all you know i don't see an issue in that and if i did i would i
00:55:49would say so or i
00:55:50would say behind the scenes and make the following adjustments we don't always include the press
00:55:55conferences obviously on match of the day but you asked us to put that in specifically because that
00:55:59seven second pause there from eddie howe for you kind of summed up newcastle today and what was going
00:56:05on yeah i think it did because newcastle weren't terrible today they weren't and bournemouth weren't
00:56:09brilliant but that little edge that little bit of fire that eddie howe's talking about which he
00:56:14isn't quite seeing in his team i think was really apparent today and it was so obvious in in a
00:56:19lot
00:56:19of the reasoning that we saw the goals scored by bournemouth especially now bournemouth tavernier talked
00:56:24about they want to go that little bit ed that little bit further they want to do that little bit
00:56:28more
00:56:28now than breaking news this week now areola i think he highlighted the right hand side ian great you
00:56:35know bought him in january he just feel like hall's beaten too easily livermento's there but you know
00:56:40tavernier just gets the march on him and it happened again in the first half getting quite getting a
00:56:45ball into the box easing i think venil uh sorry that's just the goal that we saw there but again
00:56:50it happened pretty soon after and it was something like i say areola will have highlighted and they
00:56:55could have gone into the break 2-0 now he's made the change hall's come off trippier's come on
00:57:00livermento's gone out to the left-hand side trippier on this right-hand side now true fair as he drives
00:57:06it into midfield and continues his run this is someone who wants to score wants to make something
00:57:11happen we've highlighted murphy we've highlighted um miley we've highlighted bruno and they're just not
00:57:18getting back and true fair just wants to score that goal and here areola you can see he's got that
00:57:22cheshire cat smile because his team are running his team are working and newcastle were just slightly
00:57:27off the pace today how impressed are you by contrast to that with with bournemouth and and
00:57:32the intensity and and the way that they have set about their business this season areola had always
00:57:37said this was the end of his time there they've announced this week they've almost you know kind
00:57:42of got secured the uh signature of rosa to be the next manager they've so many has gone they've brought
00:57:47in ryan and they just seem to be very seamless in the way they do things and the players he
00:57:52said he was
00:57:53worried that they they wouldn't be there for him this week because of that announcement yeah i think
00:57:57it's i think it's really refreshing the way bournemouth go about their business i think the manager's a
00:58:01class act uh he always proves he never moans he loses his best players i've had to rebuild the whole
00:58:06defense they lost their their their special player in semenyo and he didn't moan at all they recruit
00:58:11really well and they just get on with it and they seem to always even now bringing this manager in
00:58:17it
00:58:17seems like a manager that suits the style of the team i think that their model of the way they
00:58:22build
00:58:23teams and the way they put the manager in place is really impressive newcastle's defense uh is very
00:58:29very leaky indeed and and some of the defensive stats are relegation talk aren't they the last
00:58:3410 matches the way their form has has dropped off there seem to be a change in identity to this
00:58:40team
00:58:40yeah and as you said this is relegation form in the last in the last 10 premier league games which
00:58:45is
00:58:45which is a worry and which is why there's groans and and boos at the end of the game today
00:58:50because
00:58:50defensively that there was very poor that's the whole team not just the defense they just to me
00:58:56they look very fatigued whether that's mentally and physically or both they just seem to be trying
00:59:01to hold on to their old identity and they can't execute that like they used to they spent a lot
00:59:06of
00:59:06money over 200 million pounds and a couple of those players were on the bench today they've not landed
00:59:12really these players not no they had voltamada and visa on the bench um and when we look at the
00:59:18money that's spent and the return that they've got for it it's just not worked out for them so they
00:59:22haven't been able to replace the the goals that isac scored or the the style of play that that they
00:59:28was playing before then they just seem at odds at both ends of the pitch they they can't defend very
00:59:34well at the minute and they can't create goals and score goals very well so it is it's worrying times
00:59:38for newcastle okay thank you brentford had drawn their last four as they push for european football
00:59:43next season west london rivals fulham made the short trip to the gtech community stadium conor mcnamara
00:59:49was watching brentford's consistency has been a key part of their success this season and keith andrews
00:59:56once again names an unchanged team today eco chiago just one goal behind derling haaland in the race for
01:00:03the golden boot marco silva makes four changes for fulham sessen young into the defense luka
01:00:08should carry to the midfield and emil smith roe partners wilson and muniz in attack
01:00:15brentford dreaming of making it into europe for the first time in the club's history
01:00:27that's the cost of a corner
01:00:33it's short to jensen
01:00:36and almost almost for eco chiago who should be the most marked man look at that four defenders around
01:00:45him and yet he still managed to get a clean header from a standing position
01:00:50that grazes the post and fulham need 11 points from their final six games to secure a highest ever
01:00:59premier league points total
01:01:02good position
01:01:04just as he tried to pull the trigger two defenders closed in on him
01:01:09it's probably about as good a chance as full of a pack today
01:01:18about to move into stoppages at the end of the first half in west london
01:01:23this could be the last attacking opportunity of the first half two minutes to be added on dams god wins
01:01:29the corner for brentford
01:01:35what tara in swinger ingo chiako was ready to head it in anderson with an important tenor
01:01:40chance for brentford is put over the top
01:01:44keen lewis potter
01:01:46lovely little drag back to himself but then couldn't keep it down
01:01:52former brentford boss thomas frank watching on today brentford who starts in seventh place they
01:01:57are four points better off than they were at this stage last season under frank
01:02:03brentford have never had more points on the board at this stage of a premier league campaign
01:02:08lewis potter chance to look up nice delivery watara
01:02:15trying to find some space it's good from watara it's a solid save from bert leno
01:02:22brentford haven't won any of their last eight
01:02:25premier league london derbies that have been played here at home
01:02:34dams god so close
01:02:38stealing it there was no flag dams god keith andrews likes what he sees but this game remains
01:02:48scoreless for that
01:02:57oh very forceful challenge from harry wilson there brentford feel that he got way more of the
01:03:03man than the ball for the moment brentford temporarily down to ten men here
01:03:09dams god who fell off the pitch
01:03:14just now making his way back onto it kearney
01:03:29so selukic picking out the run of wilson that's not the touch he was looking for
01:03:37he's definitely on side here
01:03:41just skewed off the wrong part of his boot
01:03:45this was the early challenge on dams god harry wilson coming in now that looks late
01:03:50he got away with that
01:03:56dams god returning it to keen lewis potter
01:04:00jensen's available here down goes keen lewis potter fouled
01:04:05by bob free kick to brentford dangerous attacking position feels like this is an inviting angle
01:04:17for the premier league this season
01:04:32Frustrating so far, this afternoon for Arcos Silva.
01:04:40A big long throw again for Keone, there was some appeals that may have come off an arm.
01:04:45A day of missed opportunities for Brentford.
01:04:53Anderson, he lifted his head, he took his eye off the ball and this could be costly.
01:04:57Anderson trying to get back into position.
01:04:59Keone Lewis putter!
01:05:01Oh, that could have been the moment!
01:05:03Tango Wattara, denied by Bert Leno!
01:05:07It's a save that might well earn Fulham a point today and deny Brentford the win.
01:05:14And from that range, he can't believe Bert Leno saved it.
01:05:20Brentford nil, Fulham nil.
01:05:23Not clear-cut chances for both sides, first half, apart from one from Sessegnon that I
01:05:27remember and one corner for them.
01:05:30Second half, we started well but after they started to drop it a bit, they had a big chance
01:05:34with Lennon making a big save, big impact in the game in that moment.
01:05:37But I have to look back as well for the big moment from Harry Wilson that receiving the
01:05:42ball or even finding the targets a big chance when you have a goalkeeper in front of you.
01:05:46Defensively, they are hard to break down.
01:05:48You've got to wait for those opportunities.
01:05:50Whether that was coming from set-pieces, where I thought we were a concentrate this afternoon
01:05:53and that moment you expect me to go back in there as a magnificent save.
01:05:58Still very much in this hunt for Europe as well.
01:06:01You talk to the players.
01:06:01Do you talk about that as a goal, as a target?
01:06:03I think there's an opportunity that everybody knows is potentially there for us.
01:06:07But we need to be really on our game to achieve that.
01:06:10And I feel like in the last few weeks we've played well, but we haven't got the points
01:06:14that maybe the performances deserve.
01:06:16Joe, we're always delighted you're with us.
01:06:18But even more so when there is a world-class save in the 90th minute of a match and you
01:06:23just
01:06:24get to go into a 0-0, actually more than anybody's relief, and a 0-0, you take the floor.
01:06:29Off you go.
01:06:30Superb.
01:06:31Bernd Leno, centre stage, please.
01:06:35Lewis Potter was excellent all afternoon, to be fair.
01:06:37Well, Tara must think he's won it.
01:06:3990th minute.
01:06:40He's had a solid game.
01:06:41He's made some comfortable saves, made some good decisions.
01:06:44But this is what you want as a goalkeeper.
01:06:46This is absolutely superb.
01:06:49Reactions, reflexes, as we see this in slow motion.
01:06:52Robinson, you never know if he's going to get a deflection.
01:06:55Squares off as a goalkeeper.
01:06:56Sets strong forward.
01:06:58That left hand coming up.
01:07:00Boom.
01:07:01Brilliant save.
01:07:02Pulls it out.
01:07:03Over the bar.
01:07:04He'll be absolutely delighted with his work.
01:07:06And there's nothing better than seeing an opposition manager on the floor like that.
01:07:10Keith Andrews has talked about their set pieces, their set plays, and obviously they
01:07:15didn't get anything from them today.
01:07:17What was going wrong?
01:07:18No, they were strong.
01:07:19And we know that it's a strength of this Brentford team.
01:07:23And this is Nathan Collins, who I've played with at Stoke.
01:07:26And he gets his first contact, which is the most important thing.
01:07:29It's just that here he is again getting the first contact.
01:07:32He just can't direct it.
01:07:33And here we can see another example of a similar type of header.
01:07:38And the player's just got a cross.
01:07:42I think it's Declan Rice and guided that one into the back stick.
01:07:44As you can see, the goalkeeper's got no chance at all.
01:07:49I don't think there's a goalkeeper.
01:07:50He shouldn't be disappointed with himself because there's no goalie in the world would have saved that.
01:07:55Young keeper.
01:07:57Looks like he's got his career in front of him there.
01:07:59And I'm sure it took him a while to get over that one.
01:08:02Brilliant header.
01:08:03What can I say?
01:08:03Brilliant header, Ash.
01:08:04Well done, mate.
01:08:06They are doing very well Brentford this season.
01:08:08Still going for European football.
01:08:11There's three of them on 48 points at the moment.
01:08:13Do you rate their chances?
01:08:14Yeah, I think they've got every chance.
01:08:16I think the manager will be really confident and happy with the season.
01:08:19I don't think none of us had them down for a European push at the start of the season.
01:08:23Thomas Frank leaving.
01:08:24Yeah, exactly.
01:08:24So they should feel confident in themselves.
01:08:26Okay.
01:08:27Let's have a look at the table then.
01:08:28I've just given you a bit of a spoiler there.
01:08:30But Manchester United move three points clear of Aston Villa after victory at Stamford Bridge.
01:08:33Defeat for Chelsea means they could drop to eighth if Everton and Sunderland win on Sunday.
01:08:37Bournemouth are now only outside the top six on goal difference after their win at Newcastle.
01:08:41At the bottom, Brighton's last gasp equaliser plunged Spurs back into the relegation zone.
01:08:45Nottingham Forest and West Ham have had the chance to extend the gap to Tottenham on Sunday and Monday respectively.
01:08:52And after back-to-back wins this week, Leeds United are eight points clear of the drop zone.
01:08:57Wolves will be relegated on Monday if the Hammers avoid defeat at Crystal Palace.
