00:03install Genome desktop environment on any existing desktop environment on your
00:08Linux operating system so in my case I have XFCE which is the default desktop
00:14environment for Kali Linux and I actually wanted to use Genome because it
00:19has lots of cool animations better smoothness and doesn't even require
00:23that much resources so first of all we are going to update the system we're
00:27gonna open up the terminal and type in sudo apt update this will update all the
00:33packages into the password and all the packages are now up to date so what are
00:39we going to do is is update the system so I'm gonna type in sudo apt full upgrade
00:45I'm sorry I forgot to put the apt let's type in sudo apt full upgrade here we go
00:52looks like all of my packages and system is now up to date so what are we going
00:59to do is type in sudo apt install Genome this will give you the list of
01:04everything and the space that it will require after summary all you have to do
01:09is type in yes and hit enter and it will start downloading all the packages that
01:13are required to run Genome and also while you're at it make sure you hit the
01:19subscribe button because we are making a lot of great videos so without any mistake
01:26of time I am going to speed up this process
01:47so after the installation you get two options one is gdm and lightdm the gdm is
01:54the genome desktop manager and lightdm is for the previous one that I had to
01:58install this is the default one you have to select gdm on this screen and hit
02:03enter this will start installing the genome desktop environment after the all
02:08of the packages are downloaded once it is installed all you have to do is
02:12reboot your system and it will boot directly into the genome desktop
02:16environment let's wait for the installation complete and I will show you how
02:20it works out
02:37okay now it looks like the installation is complete the downloading and
02:41installation of packages and everything is done all you have to do is reboot the
02:46system so I'm just gonna type in clear to clear the terminal and hit exit to close
02:51the terminal now I have rebooted the system and now I am logged in as with
02:57greeted with some instructions on how to use it well the best thing about this is
03:03that you get gesture control which is very fun and nice to have if you click on
03:08this you see all of the workspaces there are two workspaces on by default one is the
03:15program that you're running and the next one is the desktop you can change some
03:20desktop settings right from here display how those are oriented night light and
03:26here are the rest of the settings you can access your settings right from there
03:31well actually I am going to change some settings around here lately but you can
03:37change it however you see fit now as you can see on system details you can see I
03:43have genome version 48 make sure after you have installed genome I highly recommend that you
03:50use the pseudo apt update and pseudo apt full upgrade to update everything on your
03:58Linux anyway I don't think there is anything else that we need to talk about these are some settings
