00:00I think that what I'm drawn to with strong women is their ability to be
00:05trailblazers in the way where they're not afraid to take risks. They're creating
00:10the music that they want to create because they love it and this is their
00:13art and it pays off.
00:21You know when we wrote that song I wrote it with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and
00:25Joy Beth Taylor and when we wrote it I knew it was going on the record I
00:28honestly knew it was going to be the lead single
00:31and we love that song but I don't think I could have ever imagined
00:34what's happening with it right now. Like I said every day I wake up and it's
00:39doing something that I didn't even know was a goal that I could have had
00:43and it's just it's nuts it's crazy to see the ownership that the fans have taken
00:46over it and the different demographics of people
00:50listening to the song is so cool just nuts to see everything happen.
00:53So I was on a writer's retreat with Miranda this is our first time that we
00:57had written together and obviously we were there with two
00:59others we had written one song and she was telling me this story
01:05I learned at a young age she had a pet kangaroo
01:08and I wanted to ask her about it so I was like tell me about this kangaroo that
01:12you had I need to know and she did she had a pet kangaroo and
01:16she was telling me the story about how she got pulled over once she had a
01:19kangaroo in the passenger seat dog in the back and said she got pulled over
01:24and the kangaroo ended up getting her out of a ticket but she's like of course I
01:28had Texas plates on too and I went well she's from Texas I can tell
01:32and just from that phrase it kind of all hit us and the melody fell right out of me
01:37and I went she's from Texas I can tell by the way
01:51it's just like that Miranda was like like the one he went with the girl he went with
01:56and 45 minutes later we had that song written and it was just it was such a cool experience
02:02well she's actually working with me she's executive producing this next record of mine
02:06um and so this whole process with her has been just I've learned so much there's not a rule book
02:13to this job so to be able to have someone like her to ask questions and think you know is
02:19it should
02:19I be doing this she's like hell yeah you should be doing this um and so every day just to
02:24send back
02:25and forth a little something about what the song is doing and it's it's surprising her too you know
02:30she's like my team's calling me every day freaking out about this song and um it's just a cool time
02:35for the
02:35both of us
02:42with this record people can expect fun it's groovy it's more mature it's windows down it's
02:53one of those records that you can put on I think and every you know every song means something but
02:58it's also one of those that you can kind of turn around and cook dinner to and be hanging out
03:02with
03:02your friends I think for this record with my last record I had a accumulation of all these songs
03:11I had written in town and then kind of came up with a concept from those songs but for this
03:16record
03:16dandelion I had that song first I had the concept I was walking in every single right with vision boards
03:22and a 100 song reference playlist so this record is so thought out I mean every single detail has
03:28been thought about to the songs to the music to what the show is going to be to all of
03:34the images
03:35coming out it's just falling together so beautifully so with this record it's definitely country but
03:40me still exploring being an artist and music and you know just still finding my sound and
03:46I don't know if I'll ever say I have found my sound because I think honestly I'm just going to
03:51keep
03:51exploring and writing music that I love to sing myself it's really groovy it's really I love to
04:09dance I grew up dancing so I wanted something to where songs you can just I listen when I listen
04:13to
04:14songs I don't listen to the words first I listen to the track I listen to the instrumentation so very
04:19musical this record a lot of big music so I had actually written dandelion the songs about almost
04:25two years old it was up for contention on the last record but sonically it just felt like where I
04:33wanted to go and so I was holding on to that song and the day that we did that you
04:37look like you love
04:38me music video my makeup artist Chris I was showing him the song I was like this is a song
04:42called dandelion
04:43and I think it'd be a cool title track for a record and he said well did you know that
04:48dandelion
04:48tea is a natural detox for your liver and when he said that to me it was like bing I
04:55saw a record
04:55called dandelion coming after a record called hungover to me this record is about growth it's about
05:00you know trying to figure life out in a way but also being like it's still life you ain't ever
05:06going
05:06to figure it out um and it just I don't know it just feels like a little more mature version
05:12of my
05:13artistry I'm so excited for all the songs on there um there's a song called be her I'm really
05:26excited for people to hear obviously dandelion there's this song called broken oh I love this
05:32it's such a great song um it's just like I said this it's just you can feel it this music
05:38you can
05:38really feel it when you're listening to it and so um broken's one there's one called bottom of your
05:43boots my dad gave me that title randomly he was giving me a pep talk one night I was having
05:50a crap
05:50week and he said baby I love you from the bottom of my boots to the top of my hat
05:56I was like that's
05:58genius hey that's a great title wrote it down and so that's his song in there but yeah I think
06:03those and
06:03there's one called love and life again I can't wait to hear but it's hard to pick there's a lot
06:16I think that what I'm drawn to with strong women is their ability to be trailblazers in the way
06:23where they're not afraid to take risks they're creating the music that they want to create because
06:28they love it and this is their art and it pays off I think when you do that when you
06:33just explore your artistry and have fun with it there's so many talented women coming up right now
06:39I'm so excited for what music's going to look like in the next two to three years
06:43I mean women are about to take over I'm telling you that right now but yeah I think um recently
06:49especially with what Choosing Texas is doing you know um it went number five on billboard
06:57how crazy is that and I read a stat that there's only I think 10 women not even just in
07:04country
07:04but 10 women in the last century to do that and for me like what me you mean me and
07:13I think just
07:14keep trying to do stuff like that you know keep hey hey we're here to play we're here to play
07:20and
07:20I don't know I just it's cool it's really cool to be hopefully someone that looked someone else
07:25looks up to in that way
07:34I'm really um the way I write songs is a little more in the moment struck by an idea um
07:39and then
07:40there's obviously the days that we have scheduled in so it's really about finding the holes but I'm
07:45constantly writing I'm always writing something sit right down a title writing a chorus you know
07:50but yeah for me just figuring it out it's weird I some people write on the road I do not
07:56like
07:56writing on the road it's so many different brains right like last week I wrote all week long and so
08:03I
08:03was songwriter Ella this week I had three different photo shoots so now we're artist photo shoot Ella you
08:10know so kind of taking one hat off putting on the other is a little kind of how I would
08:14go
08:26I have to credit most of my style to Stephanie Colvin um she's absolutely insane at her job
08:34so our first tour together was the John Party tour and I was still wearing I was wearing pants
08:40I was wearing a cowboy hat and slowly but surely we just tried different things and we didn't have
08:45any money at first so most of our stuff is vintage um she thrifted it and it's just trial and
08:52error
08:52I mean we learned that I don't like really long skirts because I trip over them in fall
08:56and pants on stage is one thing and then you know just just trying it out and for this next
09:03record
09:03for hungover I feel like we were very dark and we're hungover you know but for dandelion we're
09:11trying to detox our livers here we're trying to work out in the morning now you know I can't get
09:17drunk the night before if you want to work out in the morning so for this style wise it's a
09:22little
09:22brighter a little more color um obviously I'm in white today so that's a big difference for us
09:28but yeah it's um a little more put together
09:39SNL musical guest and then one day one day post it maybe um still out of stadium more than one
09:48that's always been my goal people in the beginning always used to ask me how far you want to take
09:53this
09:53thing that's like I guess as far as it let me go and to me and that's a stadium so
09:58that's my big one
09:59um I want to act um so I'd love to start doing that in the next year um there's so
10:07many venues that
10:08I want to play I want to headline red rocks I've opened red rocks but I've never had line red
10:12rocks
10:14um yeah have a saxophone in my van
10:19I could keep going on my goals I really think of plenty more every day at this point I'm just
10:23going to start reaching for the stars literally just like that I'm back to loving life again
10:32you know this record like I said has just so beautifully fallen out while we've thought about
10:39every single aspect of it and I'm just excited for the fans to they're going to hear that when they
10:45listen to it they're going to there's little clues all the way throughout the record of what we're
10:50talking about and I'm just excited to see what the fans think about this new era and um just to
10:57see
10:57what this if the first record did that then I can only imagine what this record's gonna do you know
11:02thank y'all so much for having me this is such an honor
