00:00are there any um upcoming in the new season procedures or something that kind of even
00:05shocked you yeah well i mean you guys might know about what's going on right now i had a stroke
00:09yes i had a stroke four months ago i'm okay now you can hear sometimes a little bit of a
00:14hitch in
00:14my voice if i'm trying to speak fast or at least i know like it's not quite there um but
00:20um so
00:21there is a lot of things there are a lot of new things kind of going on kind of like
00:25opening up
00:26to my personal life which is a little bit because it's always been about my reality show is not about
00:30throwing tables or you know freaking out on people it's more like about the the patients are really
00:35the drama yeah they're the drama really and it's so nice that we do the opposite of a lot of
00:40these
00:41shows is we actually make things better and put things back in their place and so that really
00:46makes everybody happy the patients happy and also the people watching so it's it's we have a lot of
00:51young protégés we have somebody here who actually with me dr shereen taymor she's one of the protégés
00:56on the show one of the young dermatologists so we have a few of those and then i also have
01:00another
01:00dermatologist that's joining me dr tell me who is a fantastic derm surgeon and actually a colleague
01:05i actually trained with her so she helped me out during the time when i was recovering from the stroke
01:10so you can get to see her she's lovely and uh we're so happy you're doing better after that but
01:15was there a moment because like you were saying opening up to your personal life is a completely
01:20different ball game for you and also bouncing back immediately to work after uh suffering a
01:26stroke and everything was there a moment where you were like i can't finish this season oh absolutely
01:30yeah in the beginning i was like what am i gonna do like am i going on disability is this
01:34gonna be it
01:35like i'm never doing a surgery again like it was scary at that point because you don't know what's
01:40going to happen and you're scared and you have a little ptsd really like this just because it happened
01:45while i was actually taping the show so it's sort of associated in my mind with the show so um
01:51yeah
01:52you're gonna see what happens and but i do think like i've gotten much better yeah i usually say i'm
01:58not i'm 99 better but i realized last night actually when i was thinking about this that there's a range
02:03because i think sometimes it gets a little worse a little better as if i get a little tired you
02:07know
02:08but it's not terrible i can certainly do surgery i can certainly talk to people and not look insane
02:12hopefully but but i mean it's it's just it's it actually with me you know like i don't feel like
02:20i'm exactly like i can't i couldn't put my suitcase on the upper compartment in the airplane like
02:25because i couldn't lift it with my left hand i'm like also i feel as a doctor you probably are
02:30perfectionist too so i'm sure there are so many patients of a stroke that would be like i'm doing
02:36amazing but because you're a doctor and can look at things medically you're like i should be xyz and
02:39it's like yes you're doing you're doing as best as you can well and also you're a doctor so you
02:44probably thought that your health was optimal i mean it seems like you take care of yourself
02:48yes do you know kind of now with reflection what led to the stroke well i think what happened well
02:53i
02:54have um high blood pressure and and high cholesterol family history and my father had actually a
02:59a little stroke when he was about 60 um so older than i am but i'm like i'm in i'm
03:04mid 50s
03:05which is hard for me to say but also that's part of it the fact that i you feel young
03:11you know you
03:12put you on camera you feel like you look good you're a dermatologist so you get treatments you
03:16know all these kinds of things that make you look younger or feel younger and you want to be younger
03:21that's the whole you know everybody wants this at this stage so for you to really kind of say okay
03:25maybe i should see a doctor for my blood pressure my cholesterol that sounds like i'm old you know in
03:30your mind you're like i don't want to see somebody because that means that i'm old now and like face
03:35reality in a different way yeah so you kind of don't want to admit that so you kind of push
03:39it
03:39off so i'm like because there's like really two kinds of patients that you know like my husband
03:44for example who is like hypochondriac the minute something happens he's telling me all about it i
03:49know about sorry honey i know about your bowel habits and like everything you know the minute it
03:54happens but for me i'm like maybe tomorrow it'll go away you know like i'm like that kind of person
03:59so there's two times how did he process your stroke was he then concerned about himself
04:03um yes sure but also yes yes he immediately got checked up yeah now he's on blood pressure
04:10medications too you know okay good yeah so so actually that's one of the things that i'm hoping
04:15to help you know kind of push others to kind of take care of themselves take that step and know
04:20that
04:20that's important to do because no matter if you feel healthy on the outside we're all working really
04:25hard and there's a lot of stresses in life now these days so especially so it's really good to
04:30make sure you take care of yourself first or you can't take care of others
