00:00Are there any upcoming in the new season procedures or something that kind of even shocked you?
00:05Yeah, well, I mean, you guys might know about what's going on right now.
00:08I had a stroke. Yes, I had a stroke four months ago.
00:11I'm okay now. You can hear sometimes a little bit of a hitch in my voice if I'm trying to
00:16speak fast, or at least I know.
00:17There are a lot of new things kind of going on, kind of like opening up to my personal life.
00:22My reality show is not about throwing tables or, you know, freaking out on people.
00:25It's more like about the patients are really the drama.
00:28Yeah, you were saying opening up to your personal life is a completely different ballgame for you.
00:34And also bouncing back immediately to work after suffering a stroke and everything.
00:39Was there a moment where you were like, I can't finish this season?
00:42Oh, absolutely. Yeah, in the beginning, I was like, what am I going to do?
00:45Like, am I going on disability? Is this going to be it? Like, I'm never doing a surgery again?
00:49Like, it was scary at that point, because you don't know what's going to happen.
00:53And you're scared, and you have a little PTSD, really.
00:56Because it happened while I was actually taping the show.
00:59You're going to see what happens, but I do think, like, I've gotten much better.
01:04I usually say I'm 99% better, but I realized last night, actually, when I was thinking about this,
01:10that there's a range, because I think sometimes it gets a little worse, a little better,
01:13if I get a little tired, you know?
01:15But it's not terrible. I can certainly do surgery.
01:18I can certainly talk to people and not look insane, hopefully.
01:21But, I mean, it's just, it's actually with me, you know?
01:26Like, I don't feel like I'm exactly, like, I can't, I couldn't put my suitcase on the upper compartment in
01:32the airplane,
01:33like, because I couldn't lift it with my left hand, and I'm like, argh.
01:36Also, I feel as a doctor, you probably are a perfectionist, too.
01:38Yeah, it's annoying.
01:39So, I'm sure there are so many patients of a stroke that would be like, I'm doing amazing.
01:44But because you're a doctor and can look at things medically, you're like, I should be XYZ!
01:47And it's like, you're doing as best as you can.
01:50And also, you're a doctor, so you probably thought that your health was optimal.
01:54I mean, it seems like you take care of yourself.
01:55Do you know, kind of now, with reflection, what led to the stroke?
01:59I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, family history.
02:03And my father had actually a little stroke when he was about 60, so older than I am.
02:09But I'm like, I'm mid-50s, which is hard for me to say.
02:13But also, that's part of it.
02:14The fact that I, you feel young, you know, you put, you're on camera, you feel like you look good.
02:20You're a dermatologist, so you get treatments, you know, all these kinds of things that make you look younger or
02:24feel younger.
02:25For you to really kind of say, okay, maybe I should see a doctor for my blood pressure, my cholesterol.
02:30Wah, that sounds like I'm old.
02:31That's one of the things that I'm hoping to help, you know.
02:34Kind of push others to kind of take care of themselves, take that step and know that that's important to
02:39do.
02:40Because no matter if you feel healthy on the outside, we're all working really hard.
02:43And there's a lot of stresses in life now these days, so especially.
02:47So it's really good to make sure you take care of yourself first or you can't take care of others.
