00:01A car rental business owner identified only as Thanh was left stunned after discovering his Toyota Alphard AGH40, worth over
00:11200,000 ringgit, had been sold and its prized P111 number plate transferred to another vehicle without his knowledge or
00:19consent.
00:21Thanh, who also serves as his company's director, had rented the vehicle to an agent known as Brian Lee in
00:27January at 12,000 ringgit per month.
00:31He only learned of the alleged fraud on February 25th when a friend alerted him that the car was being
00:36sold, with the vehicle later found listed at a caro showroom and the number plate transferred to a motorcycle in
00:43Johor.
00:56Thanh spoke at a press conference at Wisma MCA on Thursday, adding that he had lodged a police report on
01:02March 1st, with investigations currently underway.
01:05Meanwhile, MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, Head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, who raised the case, warned of a possible
01:14syndicate targeting owners of special vehicle number plates, citing two other similar cases reported to MCA on the same day.
01:21We cannot allow this type of case, keep on going, where suddenly you find your, the ownership, go to somebody
01:32else.
01:33Whatever car you're driving now, it's not safe or so. Is it true?
01:38A woman driver, especially my car number, so very nice.
01:43I also worry about, suddenly your car been transferred out without going through procedure or no.
01:50We hope JVJ will find out how many cases they have so far received, or the police can also can
01:56review how many cases the police have received.
02:00Because as far as we know, many, but still happening.
02:04Why? Why is this so many cases still happening like this? What happened?
02:09So you mean to say if we go to the counter there to do all the system, all this one,
02:15it's no point already or what?
02:20Or suddenly you'll find your ownership gone or so.
02:23He expressed serious concern over a potential inside job or system exploit at the road transport department
02:29and urged the road transport department, the transport ministry and police to investigate the matter urgently.
