00:301 and 1.
00:38Losa doubled in a run with two outs in the fourth.
00:46He now has a double in all three games in the series.
00:50He's four out of eight.
00:57On one pitch.
00:58On one pitch just off the corner.
01:1025-year-old switch hitter Jorge Barosa doubles machine early in the year.
01:17The go-ahead run Aronado at second and two down.
01:20A swing and a miss.
01:22How about the run on that two seam?
01:25And still at 95 KB.
01:27A lot of movement.
01:28Good velocity.
01:31Kyle Braddus knows, man, he's got an empty tank right here.
01:35Very likely his last inning might even be his last batter.
01:37And whatever he's got left, he's got to dig deep right here and keep the score right where it is.
01:42Marte waiting on deck.
01:44Wolfram in the bullpen.
01:45Braddish on 2-2 for Barosa.
01:50A little number will keep it alive.
01:59And I'll tell you, the Orioles have had some good at-bats today, but the Diamondbacks have had some really
02:04good at-bats as well.
02:09Only four strikeouts, despite all the nasty pitches Braddish has thrown.
02:14Only two cents the first inning.
02:18Barosa in the air to left.
02:20Couser, the defensive replacement, makes the catch.
02:25Arizona ties the game at four.
02:28Bottom, then the top, coming up for the O-B.
02:30And now we're at a 4-4 tie.
02:31All of that from the bottom of the second inning on.
02:35Well, Eduardo Rodriguez is done after an up-and-down start.
02:39Kevin Ginkle, the first man out of the Diamondback bullpen.
02:41Ginkle making his eighth appearance of the year all out of the bullpen.
02:45ERA elevated.
02:46Three walks and six strikeouts points.
02:48Hitting .292 off the right-hander.
02:51Ginkle.
02:53His ERA elevated, and so was that fastball.
02:56Sam Hoff went after it.
02:58And it's 0-1.
02:59That's a fastball that's going to average right at 94 miles an hour.
03:03Two and a four-seamer.
03:04And a slider.
03:05So, two fastballs and a slider for Ginkle.
03:09And there's the slider.
03:10And he makes in a little bit of extension, above-ab extension.
03:14He's a pretty tough customer, but that slider has been really good for him this year.
03:17The average big-league slider has swung and missed 32-33% of the time.
03:21His is at 41%.
03:23It was a good start to Sam Hoff's Oriole career.
03:30RBI double in his first at-bat.
03:33The last Oriole player with an RBI and his first plate appearance.
03:37Remember, V-mile machine last August 22nd and over.
03:41And Huff pops this one up.
03:43A late-breaking Del Castillo does not have a rule.
03:48So, you're starting pitching comparison, assuming Kyle Braddich has done his line on the right.
03:53Eduardo Rodriguez on the left.
03:55And that is the lowest swing and miss rate in a start in the career.
04:02Spanning 239 starts of Eduardo Rodriguez.
04:06Orioles had a really good game plan, I felt like.
04:08You've got to remember, Eduardo Rodriguez had given one earned run his first three starts.
04:11The Orioles got him for four today.
04:15The only time he ever had a lower swing and miss rate was October 3rd, 2021,
04:21when he threw eight pitches in relief.
04:24That was at the end of his season where he had made 31 starts.
04:28So, the lowest whiffle in any game ever against Eduardo Rodriguez.
04:33And, you know, he worked through it without the big number until the end.
04:38But it felt like the Orioles deserved to put up four runs at least tonight.
04:47Greg Albinas has liked his team's half-back quality much of the year.
04:51Sam Huff will strike out here.
04:53The slider by Ginkle.
04:55And that ends his seven-pitch battle with a kid.
05:05But here's the good news for the Orioles.
05:07Is they've gotten Rodriguez out of the game after five innings.
05:11And now, as we've detailed time and again,
05:15they don't have to worry about a left-handed reliever in the Diamondback.
05:20So, when they get to probably the spot of Jonathan Rodriguez,
05:25you'll probably see Dylan Beavers.
05:27Colton Couser already came in for Weston Wilson,
05:29and the Orioles can load up with the left-handed bats on their bench.
05:33See, the Rockies and Rays have barely used lefties this year,
05:36but the Diamondbacks haven't used a single left-handed reliever all season.
05:41The only team in the majors not to have a left-handed reliever throw a pitch.
05:50That Diamondback bullpen was hot coming in here, too.
05:53Now, the Orioles changed that in game one of this series.
05:55They were arguably, over the course of the last week or ten days,
05:58maybe the best bullpen in baseball.
06:04After the tough Monday night,
06:06I'm going to run yesterday,
06:07the Diamondback bullpen's now 21st at a 4.62 ERA.
06:13Walk and a hit and a steal for Blaze.
06:16And it takes ball two.
06:20Dylan Beavers, Samuel Basayo, and Laoti Taveras,
06:24all of whom would bat left, are on the bench.
06:27Colton Couser has already come off it.
06:30And Weston Wilson's spot.
06:33Swing and a miss.
06:35Strike three.
06:36Back-to-back punch-outs for Cole.
06:39And that's a good slider.
06:40Good late break to it.
06:42And, I mean, watch the location.
06:44Trying to get it away.
06:44You can't throw it any better than that.
06:47Starts it just about in the heart of the plate.
06:49By the time it travels that 60 feet, 6 inches,
06:52it's right on the outside edge.
06:54To catch the strikeout from John Tumpane as well.
06:57He literally left the ground with his right foot,
06:59calling strike three.
07:01Is he that excited?
07:02That's the best strike three call in baseball,
07:05and there is not a close second.
07:09Looked like he was trying to block a Kareem Abdul-Japar skyhook.
07:13Good luck with that.
07:17What a word.
07:20Watch the plate umpire.
07:23Oh, yeah.
07:25That's a three-cup of coffee morning, is what that is.
07:29Not two, but three.
07:35The levitating and adjudicating John Tumpane.
07:39Hopefully he won't have a chance to do it here on one and two.
07:47All set.
07:49Thank you very much.
07:54Ward is 0 for 3.
07:55There's 1 for 12 in the series.
07:58A little bit high with ball two.
08:01Trying to extend it on base streak that
08:06reached 16.
08:06There you have it, the fourth longest active streak in the Majors.
08:14Ginkles 2-2.
08:16Golf to center field by Ward.
08:19Kevin Ginkle out of the Diamondback bullpen.
08:22Whirls a 1-2-3-6.
08:25Anybody's game into the final third.
08:29In a series where the Orioles won by two
08:32and the Diamondbacks won by one.
08:34No surprise that we're tightly knit
08:36into the seventh
08:37where Grant Wolfram reigns.
08:40Grant Wolfram pitched last night.
08:42Ending in the third, he went.
08:43He was perfect.
08:44Three strikeouts making his eighth appearance of the year.
08:47He has been really good caping at this point.
08:50A lot of strikes.
08:52And a butt push wide of Wolfram by Cattell Marte.
08:55Mayo never had a shot.
08:58A bunt single for Marte,
09:00who's got two home runs and a bunt hit
09:03as his three knocks into series.
09:06Just a perfect bunt, too.
09:08I mean, perfect.
09:15Once he got it by Wolfram,
09:17there was no doubt he was going to get there.
09:18Kobe Mayo coming fast, but he didn't have a chance.
09:21Even if he feels that ball cleanly,
09:22there's no chance.
09:25Marte with his first hit of the game,
09:27and now Wolfram deals with Corbin Carroll.
09:30Slugs his first pitch deep to center field.
09:32Blaze Alexander sprinting back,
09:34and that ball is off the base of the wall.
09:37Take out an awfully late break.
09:38He is just now getting into third.
09:42He hung up there.
09:43Not sure if Blaze was going to get to it,
09:46but it's a left-on-left double,
09:48and on two pitches,
09:49Arizona has two in scoring position.
09:55Sixth double in season.
09:56Boy, I tell you what,
09:57Corbin Carroll got into this one.
09:59Yeah, you can see Marte.
10:00He's kind of hung up a little bit
10:02in between first and second.
10:03The rule of thumb on that is get to the next base,
10:05and you still have time to get back
10:06if the ball's caught,
10:07and I'm not saying he would have scored.
10:09Second and third, nobody out.
10:11Quickly, and we'll infield in,
10:13trying to cut that run off at home plate.
10:16Moraldo Perdomo now.
10:18First pitch swinging.
10:20Strike one to Perdomo,
10:22who is one of the toughest players
10:24in all of baseball to strike out.
10:28Wolfram's got that good sinking fastball,
10:31and that's what he needs here.
10:31Maybe a hard ground ball,
10:33maybe to Gunnar Henderson.
10:35Over to Kobe Mayo at third,
10:36and you cut down that runner at third base,
10:38going home.
10:41Ground ball to shortstop.
10:43Henderson to first.
10:45That's one.
10:48You said something about a hard-sinking fastball
10:50getting a ground ball.
10:52There we go.
10:53That's Wolfram's best pitch.
10:56He'll need to do it again, too.
11:00A little bit surprised that contact play
11:02was not owned for the Diamondbacks.
11:06Looks like on your left, Tyler Wells.
11:09On your right, Yanir Cano.
11:12Two big right-handers.
11:15Adrian Del Castillo, the infield still in.
11:18Shows butt.
11:21Wonder if that's just for show.
11:23Del Castillo in the cleanup spot,
11:25but a left-on-left opportunity.
11:28Arizona not pinch hitting for its catcher.
11:30Well, Oriole defense all over that.
11:33Both corners.
11:33Alonzo at first.
11:34Mayo were crashing.
11:37Del Castillo only has one at-bat
11:39against a lefty all year.
11:41He's single.
11:43Got tied up there.
11:45And it's a swing,
11:46according to Chris Conroy.
11:52Del Castillo only has 28 career plate appearances
11:56against lefties,
11:57though he is hitting .346.
12:03One and one here.
12:06A chopper off Wolfram's glove.
12:09Henderson thought about going home
12:11and will go to first instead.
12:13Arizona has its second RBI ground out
12:16in as many innings,
12:17and the Diamondbacks lead 5-4.
12:19Oh, that's some tough luck right there
12:21because Wolfram almost collected his ball.
12:23He's 6'7".
12:24He went up top to get it
12:26and couldn't quite reel it in.
12:28And when he got to Gunnar Henderson,
12:29he only had one play,
12:30and that was over at first base.
12:34Matter of fact,
12:34did that ball tip?
12:36It almost looked like it might have tipped Wolfram's glove.
12:39It did.
12:41And he will leave the game.
12:43A butt hit, a double,
12:45a ground out,
12:46and an RBI ground out.
12:49Wolfram's five-game scoreless streak
12:51is over,
12:52and Cano will try to keep it 5-4.
12:55Seven pitches,
12:56six strikes for Grant Wolfram,
12:58but two hits,
12:58a run in.
13:00Leaves with Warp and Carroll
13:02at third and two out.
13:03The batter,
13:03Jose Fernandez,
13:04against Yenya to Cano.
13:07Cano struck out Fernandez yesterday
13:10and jumps ahead of him today.
13:13No, it's been good this year.
13:15Control is back,
13:16it appears,
13:16has not walked a batter yet this year.
13:18Seven strikeouts,
13:19and it's five and a third.
13:22And the Orioles have not allowed an inherited runner
13:25to score.
13:26A bullpen stranded all 17.
13:28Only team in baseball
13:31did not allow an inherited runner.
13:33and Jen Powell,
13:34a first base umpire,
13:35says that's a swing and a strike against Fernandez.
13:38It's 0-2.
13:43Most inherited runners stranded to start a season
13:46without one scoring in Orioles history.
13:48The previous high was 11th back in 1968.
13:540-2 for Fernandez.
13:56Cano struck him out yesterday on a slider in.
14:00And he strikes him out on the splitter down today.
14:03Diamondbacks in the...
14:05Kevin Ginkle trying to get four outs
14:07first time all year.
14:09Stays in there
14:10and delivers a slider strike to Gunnar Henderson.
14:13Ginkle had a dominant six,
14:15two strikeouts at a flyout.
14:17Arizona leading 5-4.
14:19Diamondbacks scratched across another run in the seventh.
14:22They've scored in four of the last five minutes.
14:24Arizona has not exactly
14:27scraped the stitches off the ball today.
14:30But it's scored runs on a couple of RBI groundouts.
14:33Two-run triple,
14:34though a ball that Weston Wilson
14:37dropped in left field,
14:38brought in the first two.
14:39Yeah, their situational hitting has been good.
14:42They've been able to get that runner home from third base.
14:45And there's been less than two out.
14:50And Gunnar's been in
14:51four two-strike counts today.
14:53He's now one
14:54out of 43
14:56in two-strike counts this season.
14:59The one was a home run off Gregory Soto in Pittsburgh.
15:05Ginkle with a 1-2.
15:10Ginkle with a 2-2.
15:11Alonzo to follow.
15:12Jonathan Rodriguez due up after that.
15:14That is likely
15:16going to be a pinch hitter spot, though.
15:19The Diamondbacks all right bullpen.
15:22Here's a 2-2.
15:24Anderson to the right side.
15:25His second two-strike hit of the year.
15:28And he leads off the seventh with a knock.
15:36It was just a matter of time.
15:39It just took you putting the stand out in the world, I think.
15:43That's all.
15:44The reverse team.
15:45Exactly.
15:50So here is Pete.
15:53Last time Kevin Ginkle got more than three outs in a game.
15:56August 2024.
15:59Pitching against
16:01Pete Alonzo's
16:02New York Mets.
16:06I'm just wondering if Gunnar here
16:08would take a chance to get in the scoring position.
16:19And the reason I say that,
16:20Ginkle's a big guy.
16:21Takes him a little time.
16:22Plus, he throws a lot of sliders, too.
16:27Now, a 2-0 count, I don't know.
16:29Might let the polar bear try to do some damage here.
16:33Here's the first disengagement.
16:40Career against Kevin Ginkle.
16:42Base dealers are 17 out of 21.
16:45Jonathan Rodriguez is still on deck.
16:49Maybe Craig Albert is just doesn't want to tip his hand here.
16:52Taylor Clark is up.
16:54And the Arizona
16:55a right-hander, obviously.
16:57But he'll sometimes come in to face lefties.
17:03Bigger lead now for Gunnar.
17:05Gunnar's getting out there now.
17:06He's got a great jump.
17:08And he'll steal this base easily.
17:11You know, and I'm going to give Pete Alonzo
17:13a lot of credit right here.
17:14Out of the corner of his eye,
17:15he could probably see that Gunnar got an outstanding jump.
17:18And even though the ball was a strike,
17:19he said, you know what?
17:20He got a great jump.
17:21I'm not going to take a chance to swing right here.
17:23I'm going to let him just take this base.
17:24He was leaning the whole time.
17:26An unbelievable jump.
17:28Now Pete Alonzo's got to find a way.
17:31And Pete is out.
17:32Pete has just been called out.
17:36Had to be a timer violation here.
17:39What happened on this?
17:41It has to be a pitch timer violation.
17:43Pete keeps extending his arm.
17:45Craig Albert,
17:46who is not supposed to be doing any strenuous activity
17:49for six weeks with his fractured jaw,
17:51will try to have a reasoned argument here
17:54with John Tumpayne.
17:56Pete must not have been set
17:58by the eight-second mark,
18:00and John Tumpayne calls him out on strike three.
18:04And Alonzo can't believe it.
18:11That is wild.
18:14We don't have the clock on here right now,
18:16but watch Pete.
18:19You've got to be alerted to the pitcher.
18:21He tries to ask for time.
18:23I mean,
18:23I was...
18:24But Ginkiel was not...
18:26Ginkiel was not even engaged.
18:28And so I don't know what's going on here.
18:30Neither Pete Alonzo
18:31or the pitcher Ginkiel were engaged.
18:34That's insane.
18:35If you can get struck out
18:37when the pitcher's not even engaged,
18:39and that's what he's saying.
18:41Pete Alonzo pointed to Ginkiel right away
18:43and said,
18:43he's not even looking at me.
18:45Leoti Tavares is the pinch hitter
18:47for Jonathan Rodriguez.
19:00I don't know that we have seen that
19:04in the pitch timer.
19:06You've seen guys strike out
19:07an automatic strike,
19:08but not with the pitcher not looking.
19:10John Tumpayne blew that.
19:11He just absolutely blew it.
19:12How about this?
19:13Run, Gunner.
19:14That's some good baseball karma.
19:17Tavares with a half swing
19:18through the left side,
19:20and the Orioles tie the game.
19:24That exit velocity,
19:25I promise you,
19:26it didn't even break the speed limit, KB,
19:28but it works.
19:29An RBI single right off the bench.
19:35Boy, the shift was on.
19:36A little cutter.
19:37Right off the end of the bat,
19:39and guess what?
19:40Nobody home.
19:41The lights are on,
19:42but there's nobody there.
19:43Gunner Henderson just keeps on running,
19:47and we are all new again.
19:50Close to that bat for Colton Couser
19:52in the game.
19:53Still Kevin Ginkle,
19:56who's only out in the inning,
19:57was recorded by Farce.
20:0228 pitches for Ginkle.
20:08Couser at a 5-5 game,
20:10and Tavares was leaning.
20:12He just got back in time
20:14because Ginkle
20:16almost had him picked.
20:25Couser was 1-3
20:26with a base at the walk yesterday,
20:28and now Ginkle
20:28has thrown over twice,
20:30so another disengagement
20:31would be a balk
20:32unless he picks off Tavares.
20:35And this crowd is out for blood now
20:37after the nonsensical strikeout.
20:41Let's see how aggressive
20:42Tavares can be here.
20:44Pretty aggressive.
20:45That right foot is getting on out there.
20:47He's on the way,
20:48but he's going to go back.
20:49Colton is not happy
20:50as he skies this one to left.
20:53And it'll be out number two.
21:04So that'll reset
21:05the disengagement counter,
21:06and it'll give
21:08Jeremiah Jackson
21:09another big opportunity.
21:13All he's done is hit
21:15and defend
21:16brilliantly all week.
21:19Tied in the third
21:20with a single,
21:21gave the Orioles the lead
21:22in the fifth
21:22with a two-run homer.
21:26And couldn't help himself
21:27on a first pitch slider.
21:34For me,
21:35Tavares has to get there,
21:36KB.
21:36He's got to,
21:36he's got to try to steal right here.
21:38He's got to get
21:39that go-ahead run
21:40and score in position.
21:45He's going to try.
21:46And it gets fouled away again.
21:48Twice he's tried
21:49on 0-1 pitches.
21:50And you mentioned
21:51Pete doing a good job
21:52taking the pitch
21:53against Gunnar,
21:54but twice the batter
21:55said,
21:55I don't want to fall behind
21:560-2.
21:58Here are the
21:58Jeremiah Jackson
21:59home runs,
22:00by the way,
22:01since four days ago.
22:03Wow.
22:03And today,
22:04the hardest hit
22:04home run of his career.
22:061-10,
22:071-06,
22:081-04,
22:09and 1-02.
22:11Crazy.
22:12Big time stuff.
22:13Four long balls,
22:14five days.
22:15But he strikes out here
22:17and that'll end
22:17a truly strange
22:19seventh inning.
22:20Both teams get a run
22:21and we're 5-5
22:23into the eighth.
22:24Five and five
22:25into the eighth.
22:27Nobody has led
22:29by more than one run
22:30in the game
22:30and Anthony Nunez
22:32is the eighth inning man
22:33today for the Orioles.
22:35The Orioles return
22:35to their third reliever
22:37of the game
22:37in the way of Anthony Nunez,
22:38man.
22:39He has been on fire
22:40so far this year.
22:42Seven appearances.
22:43Look at the ERA 1.17.
22:44The whip off the charts.
22:46Porn is hitting just 143
22:48off the right-hander,
22:49Nunez.
22:51Three lead changes,
22:52two ties today.
22:54Nunez against
22:55Ildemar.
22:56Marcus,
22:57that man is a very
22:58silly pitch.
22:59To start grounding
22:59with like a knuckleball
23:01of a changeup
23:02right at the knees.
23:03Taveras into the game
23:05and right.
23:06Alexander stays in center.
23:08He's never played right
23:08field so Blaze will stay
23:10in center.
23:11Loyola is in the right
23:13and it'll be Vargas,
23:15Arenado and Thomas
23:16six through eight.
23:18Ground ball shortstop
23:20and Anthony Nunez
23:22gets the ground out
23:22to start his outing.
23:24Wonderful job by our
23:25Annie Klaff on the
23:26pregame show today
23:27with Mel
23:27in our analytics segment
23:29talking all about
23:30Anthony Nunez
23:30and here are some of the
23:31stack cast rankings
23:32this season.
23:33How about the second
23:34slowest average exit
23:36velocity against
23:36in baseball?
23:38Expected numbers elite.
23:39The first pitch strike rate,
23:40oh, a cool 72%.
23:42I mean, the sweeper swing
23:44and miss rate on that
23:45sweeping slider, 63%.
23:49Unheard of.
23:50And there it is.
23:51Fastball's a good one
23:52going to average 96.
23:53He'll take up to 98.
23:55Two and a four seamer.
23:57And there's the changeup
23:58as well.
24:04Something that we've noted
24:05and a couple of the people
24:06are starting to see,
24:07Annie talked about it today.
24:08Mike Petriello wrote about
24:10this a couple of days ago
24:11online.
24:12Anthony Nunez is basically
24:13a different pitcher
24:14against righties and lefties.
24:15Righties, it's pretty much
24:16all sweeper sinker.
24:17Lefties, it's pretty much
24:19all fastball change.
24:22That's the two seamer
24:23fouled away by Arenado.
24:24And then there's a cutter
24:25he has hardly thrown.
24:28Yeah.
24:28But it's a five pitch mix.
24:30However, it's really a two
24:32pitch mix to righties
24:33and a different two pitch mix
24:35to lefty.
24:36But it's an elite two pitches
24:37to each side.
24:38For sure.
24:39If you look at the analytical
24:39world of it and the spin rates,
24:41like it's off the chart.
24:42I mean, I don't know
24:43that many guys that can spin
24:45a sweeping slider
24:46at 2,900 plus RPMs.
24:48That doesn't happen every day.
24:49The four seam fastball
24:50spins at 2,622.
24:52That's about 300 RPMs
24:54better than the average
24:55four seam fastball.
24:56So it's some big time stuff.
24:58And then the changeup
24:59doesn't spin at all.
25:01Which is what you want
25:02for a changeup.
25:02And that thing, by the way,
25:03has a 43% swing and miss.
25:06Arenado no shot.
25:07Another swing and miss
25:08on the sweeper.
25:10Another punch out for Nunez.
25:13And this is a guy
25:14that started pitching
25:14just how many years ago?
25:16Me too.
25:17Just two years ago.
25:19And again,
25:20we've talked about this before.
25:21He has to be
25:23a really good athlete
25:24to pick up
25:24those kind of pitches
25:26that quickly
25:27and be able to perfect them
25:28like he has
25:28in two plus years.
25:33former Division II
25:35national champion
25:36at the University of Tampa,
25:39the Tampa Spartans.
25:40By the way,
25:42the Tampa Spartans,
25:43the most successful
25:44program in the history,
25:46Division II,
25:4710 national titles,
25:48including
25:49Nunez's last season
25:50in 2024
25:51and last year
25:52in 2025.
25:54Joe Urso's spectacular job
25:56as the head coach there.
25:58And Nunez,
25:59one of his proud pupils,
26:01is ahead of Alec Thomas
26:020-2.
26:05Orioles are going to have
26:06Mayo,
26:07Huff,
26:07and Alexander
26:08due up in the eighth.
26:10Masayo and Beavers
26:11lingering on the bench.
26:13Nunez trying to get him there
26:15in a 5-5 tie.
26:18And a ground ball
26:19to second scooped up
26:20by Jackson,
26:21and that's another
26:221-2-3 inning.
26:24Anthony Nunez
26:25in cruise control again.
26:27Orioles will try to
26:28break the tie in the eighth.
26:31At bat,
26:31but it's been a strange day
26:32for John Topain.
26:34Ron Pete Alonzo
26:35for not being alert
26:36into the pitcher
26:37with eight seconds
26:38to go in the pitch timer
26:39in the seventh inning,
26:40even though the pitcher,
26:42Kevin Ginkle,
26:42wasn't alert to him.
26:44A couple of bad breaks
26:45for the Orioles.
26:47And yet,
26:47the game is tied
26:485-5 in the eighth.
26:50Taylor Clark
26:51on for Arizona
26:52for a second straight night.
26:54Dubs in a slider to Mayo.
26:56Yep, Clark making
26:57his tenth appearance.
26:58Nine and a third.
26:59He has worked so far.
27:00Gave up four runs.
27:02Hadn't walked a batter.
27:03Struck out six.
27:03Opponents hitting 2-12
27:05off the right-hander.
27:06Clark.
27:07Really good yesterday.
27:08Five up.
27:09Or four up
27:10and five outs.
27:11Got an out
27:12with a caught stealing.
27:13So an inning
27:14in two thirds.
27:16Just 15 pitches,
27:1711 strikes.
27:20Fastball to me
27:21right at 95.
27:22A really good slider.
27:23It's probably his best pitch.
27:25Change up and a cutter
27:26as well.
27:28Mayo slams one to short.
27:29By diving,
27:30Geraldo Perdomo
27:32got it there in time.
27:34He robbed Mayo
27:36of a leadoff hit.
27:38Well, that was nice
27:39by the all-star
27:40silver slugger
27:41Perdomo.
27:42This ball is touched
27:43coming off the bat.
27:44Watch this.
27:45Backhand dive.
27:46Quickly to his feet.
27:47Points his shoulder.
27:49And a nice finish
27:50on the back end
27:50by the first baseman.
27:51Fernandez picks it
27:52right off the dirt.
27:53We've seen this series
27:54why Geraldo Perdomo
27:56is one of the most
27:57underappreciated players
27:58and one of the best
27:59shortstops
27:59in baseball.
28:01Sam Huff
28:02launches one
28:03to deep left field
28:04out toward that
28:05corner in the wall
28:07and just a little bit
28:08shy
28:09of a go-ahead homer.
28:11So Huff has shown off
28:13some of his big power
28:14today on a couple
28:15of fly balls.
28:16He had an RBI double
28:17in the second
28:18and he's now one
28:19for four.
28:20Maybe a little bit
28:21off the end.
28:23Just a half inch
28:24boy makes a difference.
28:27Diamondbacks defense
28:28has really been
28:29pretty good
28:30in this series.
28:31I know going in this game
28:33they had allowed
28:33the most unearned runs
28:35by any team in baseball.
28:37Fifteen unearned runs
28:38they'd given up
28:39already in the season.
28:41And they
28:41right out
28:43as one of the best
28:43defenses in baseball
28:45on the year
28:45but when they have
28:46made errors
28:47most errors have been
28:49right in front
28:50of big rallies.
28:52Ryan Thompson
28:54loosening
28:54as Alexander guides
28:56the ball to a diving
28:57Fernandez at first.
28:58What a ridiculous
28:59inning that was
29:00for Arizona's defense.
29:02Five five we go
29:04into the ninth
29:06against the Boston
29:07Red Sox.
29:08Anthony Nunez
29:0910 pitches
29:10nine strikes
29:11and a perfect
29:11eighth
29:12and the Orioles
29:13turn to their
29:13closer
29:14and a 5-5 tie
29:15Ryan Helsley.
29:17Helsley five for five
29:18and save opportunities.
29:19Of course this is
29:20not one of those.
29:22Making his eighth
29:23appearance of the year
29:24he's been solid so far
29:25as soon as the point
29:26and his batting average
29:26is 269 off the
29:28right-hander
29:30Helsley.
29:30Time fastball
29:31it's going to average
29:3299 a slider
29:33a new split finger
29:34fastball this year
29:35and an occasional
29:36curveball.
29:39Now he did not
29:40have a lot of time
29:41to warm up
29:42in between innings
29:43because the Orioles
29:44were up and down
29:46in just six pitches.
29:47Does that concern you
29:48at all?
29:49A little bit.
29:55He probably took a couple
29:56of extra pitches
29:57before he left the bullpen
29:58and of course you get
30:00seven when you come in
30:01I think it is
30:02six or seven
30:02so he should be good to go.
30:04Velocity was good.
30:09Jorge Barossa
30:10the first scoop
30:11by Pete Alonzo.
30:13Had a great day
30:14defense
30:21watch him
30:22watch this KB
30:22watch him
30:23this is what Miguel
30:24Cairo's been working on
30:25watch how Pete Alonzo
30:26pushes through
30:27see he didn't let the ball
30:28come to his glove
30:29he actually put the glove
30:30towards the ball
30:31and pushed through it
30:32something they've been
30:34working really hard on
30:35all the infielders
30:36is pushing through
30:37those balls
30:39to tell Marte
30:41with a bunt hit
30:44big swinger
30:45and Marte
30:46was way off balance
30:47that looked like
30:48the splitter
30:48was that the splitter
30:49it was the splitter
30:50he was talking to you
30:51about developing
30:51that pitch yesterday
30:52yeah he said
30:53he's still tinkering
30:54a little bit
30:55with the thumb
30:56position on the splitter
30:57it's a two seam
30:58fastball grip
30:59which most splitters are
31:00there it is again
31:01but he said
31:02you know
31:02the grip is typical
31:04where it always is
31:05but he said
31:05I'm trying to experiment
31:06with my thumb
31:07on the side
31:08a little bit
31:08and my thumb
31:09underneath
31:10on the splitter
31:10to see which one
31:11I like the best
31:12and which one
31:12I'm going to get
31:13the most consistent
31:14movement out of
31:15but there's a good look
31:15pointer finger
31:16index finger
31:17two seam fastball grip
31:19with your fingers wide
31:19then it's ripped
31:20how about three in a row
31:22three splitters in a row
31:24for Ryan Helsing
31:26that was awesome
31:28and that'll hurt your feelings
31:29if you stand in the batter's box
31:30did you know what
31:31you're gearing up for 99
31:32give me 99 or 100
31:33but instead
31:34three times in a row
31:36the splitter gets there
31:37that may be the end
31:39of the experiment
31:39pen whatever he was
31:40doing there
31:41that's good action
31:42right
31:42it's down in the zone
31:44and it has some late life
31:45to it
31:45so wherever the thumb
31:46is
31:47he may want to stick
31:48with that one
31:51how about 100 there
31:53we're going to
31:54Carolo for three
31:55against Helsley
31:56in a limited sample
31:58Thompson and Murillo
32:00not the Diamondback
32:01closer Paul Seawald
32:02in a tie game
32:09we saw
32:11Juan Murillo
32:12throw 28 pitches yesterday
32:14allow four base runners
32:16in a run
32:16Ryan Thompson
32:17throw one pitch
32:18and get now
32:19Carroll has doubled
32:20twice and walked
32:21a big game for him
32:235-5 in the ninth
32:25and a 2-0 slider
32:26drops in there
32:30that's a little respect
32:31right there
32:32Corbin Carroll
32:33two long balls
32:34on the year
32:34he is quite capable
32:36if he gets himself
32:37in some plus counts
32:38three triples as well
32:41two one coming
32:43Carroll
32:44takes a strike
32:48a knee high
32:49100 from Helsley
32:51if you're Corbin Carroll
32:52you have no idea
32:54what's coming down
32:54is it 100
32:55is it the slider
32:56or is it the
32:58split finger fastball
33:03it was the slider
33:05and a great job
33:07by Carroll
33:07to wave that magic wand
33:09and stay alive
33:13Orioles have Ward
33:14Henderson
33:15and Alonso
33:161-2-3
33:18coming up
33:19in the bottom
33:19of the ninth
33:22open for their
33:23their first walk-off
33:24win of the year
33:25hoping Helsley
33:26can get it there
33:27in a tie
33:27and a challenge
33:29is coming
33:30from Sam Huff
33:33101 mile per hour
33:35rip shot
33:36of a fastball
33:37from Ryan Helsley
33:39a strike three
33:43ABS powered by T-Mobile
33:46powers the end
33:47of a 1-2-3-9
33:48Ward Henderson
33:50and the polar bear
33:52to try and walk
33:53Marte and Carroll
33:54in a perfect ninth
33:55and the Orioles
33:56can win it now
33:57to do so
33:58they have to do
33:58what nobody's done
34:00this year
34:00get a run
34:01or at least an earned
34:02run against Ryan
34:03Thompson
34:03who's allowed
34:03one unearned run
34:04but has a zero
34:05and his fastball
34:07which is his best pitch
34:08at sinking fastball
34:09he throws it
34:0970% of the time
34:11and yet it only
34:11averages 89 miles an hour
34:13but it's got some
34:14really good sink to it
34:15so if you're hitting
34:15first thing you want to do
34:17is you want to see it up
34:17and then you want to try
34:18to get to the bottom
34:19of the baseball
34:20at the camp
34:21throws it in there
34:22to Taylor Ward
34:23Taylor Clark had a perfect
34:25eighth inning on six
34:26pitches
34:27Kevin Ginkle
34:28two innings
34:29two hits
34:29and earned run
34:30four strikeouts
34:33and it's Thompson
34:34against Ward
34:35Henderson
34:35and Alonzo
34:36if it gets that far
34:37one-on-one for Taylor
34:39and it's only a two-pitch mix
34:41I mean it's fastball
34:42slider
34:42for Ryan Thompson
34:44but heavy heavy
34:46on that sinking fastball
34:49you just hope
34:50he makes a mistake
34:51up
34:51that's the one
34:52you want to attack
34:55that's where he
34:56wants to throw it
34:58Taylor Ward
34:58four career
35:00walk-off
35:00plate appearances
35:01three
35:03walk-off
35:03home runs
35:06has not
35:06homered as an
35:07Oriole
35:08has not reached
35:09base today
35:09for the first time
35:10in 17 games
35:12pretty good time
35:13for your first one
35:14well he gives it
35:15a little bit of a
35:16charge here to
35:17center field
35:17but another deep
35:18fly out
35:20Ward has hit it
35:21in the air
35:21four times
35:22he's 0 for 5
35:27this guy is one
35:28of the funkiest
35:29right-handed
35:30pitchers in baseball
35:31with that arm angle
35:32Ryan Thompson
35:33what makes you
35:34different right
35:35we had that
35:36conversation last night
35:37Ryan Thompson
35:38is definitely
35:38different
35:40let's see if
35:41Gunnar Henderson
35:42can pick him up
35:42base hit in the
35:44seventh score the
35:45tying run
35:47takes ball one
35:50the Diamondbacks lead
35:51the majors this year
35:52ten of their first
35:53eighteen games have
35:55been one run games
35:56or six and four
35:57thirteen of their
35:58nineteen games have
35:59been one or two run
36:02the Orioles are tied
36:03for fourth they played
36:05nine games decided by one
36:07or two runs
36:08there's six and three in
36:09those games so this is
36:12comfortable tension for
36:15both teams one ball one
36:18strike to Gunnar
36:19Henderson taken wide
36:38out of play two and two
36:53with Alonzo waiting
36:56Henderson the Orioles
36:57home run leader with six
37:04I was one out of play
37:06four seamer at 92
37:08from that
37:09low up shoot
37:11from Thompson
37:11yeah but the more
37:13Gunnar Henderson sees
37:14that but the more
37:15comfortable he's going to
37:16get as Tyler Wells
37:17is up and looks like
37:19ready
37:19the Orioles can't
37:21score a run here for
37:22the tenth
37:28hot shot to second
37:30picked by Vargas
37:33I'm getting tired of
37:34this defense
37:36they have made some
37:37plays today
37:40and again it's a
37:41defense that came in
37:41ten errors no eleven
37:43errors on the year
37:44coming in fifteen
37:46unearned runs the
37:47most in baseball
37:48but it's not looked like
37:49that today
37:51it was a hot shot but
37:54Gunnar could not reach on
37:56the windless Thompson
37:57and here is Alonzo at two
37:59down whipping the first
38:02pitch back to the net
38:03will be Tyler Wells it
38:05appears in the tenth if
38:06there is a tenth
38:07but Pete Alonzo is used to
38:10coming through in these
38:10spots five walk off home
38:12runs as a New York Met nine
38:14walk off RBI's
38:18game winning home run on
38:19Monday and a ground ball
38:21dugout to shortstop here in
38:23this game is ticketed for the
38:26tenth the Orioles first extra
38:28inning affair of the year in a
38:30rubber game Brails fifth
38:31reliever of the game and the
38:33bullpen's been pretty good
38:34three innings one run
38:37Wells will take over in the
38:38tenth to face the heart of the
38:40diamondback order as we go to
38:41extra innings for the first
38:42time in 2026 yeah it's been a
38:44few years we said the Orioles
38:46have a top 10 bullpen in
38:47baseball but that's where they
38:48come in at a 3.43 ERA for the
38:51bullpen that is 10th best in
38:53Major League Baseball and up to
38:55Tyler Wells now Orvin Carroll out
38:57at second base with a ton of
38:59speed and nobody out
39:03the automatic runner at second
39:05back in effect in 2026 and
39:07Carroll's a very good automatic
39:08runner to have
39:11and if you're Colby Mayo at
39:13third base right now your head's
39:14got to be able to swivel you're
39:15expecting bunt but you got to
39:16keep an eye on Corbin Carroll too
39:17if you're Arizona would you
39:19bunt with a three hitter here
39:20and play for one on the road
39:22if you could trust him to get a
39:24ground ball to the other side
39:25but if you can't you got to put
39:27it on the ground they are going
39:28to bunt so Mayo gets the out
39:30you don't always see this you
39:32don't always see the road team
39:33play for one just because the
39:34visiting or the home team has the
39:36same advantage but almost a very
39:39comfortable bunter and the
39:42Diamondbacks do move Carroll to
39:44third with one out Adrian Del
39:46Castillo will bat
39:52Del Castillo a two run triple in
39:54the third and then an RBI ground
39:56out in the seventh with the
39:57infield drawn in
39:59nice pickup right there
40:02Sam Huff yeah behind home plate
40:04that was big time there go ahead
40:06run just 90 feet away that was an
40:08easy chance right there that's a big
40:10dude we talked about earlier 6-4 2-40
40:132-50 moving well
40:221-0 for Del Castillo
40:26going well
40:27a little low
40:29Ryan Helsley struck out two
40:31Lo
40:32line Helzly struck out to 11 pitches
40:32eight strikes in a scoreless ninth
40:36Wolfram gave up a run
40:37Cano got a strikeout Nunez and
40:40Helzly perfect innings
40:46Del Castillo ploppers one a deep
40:49center field that ball is gone so
40:55Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok
41:26The Diamondbacks came into this series with the second fewest home runs in baseball.
41:31They will not leave with such a status.
41:35They have hit six home runs in the three games.
41:39They hit four one in game one of the series.
41:42And the Orioles won that game.
41:46Jose Fernandez, the next batter.
41:51And no swing according to Jen Powell.
41:54That's 2-0.
41:57That second run coming across feels like such a gut punch.
42:02Yep.
42:04You give up one, you're still going to get the runner at second.
42:07But now the Orioles will have to bring in another at least.
42:12Round to third and a diving catch is made by Mayo.
42:17Was already drawn in.
42:18A nice play by Kobe.
42:22Well, we talked about third base.
42:24It's a reaction position.
42:27The hot corner.
42:27Well done by Kobe Mayo.
42:30That ball hooking and coming back into his body.
42:46Five RBIs today for Adrian Del Castillo.
42:51Which is actually not a career high.
42:54He drove in six runs in his ninth ever big league game at Miami 2024.
43:04He's knocked in five of the seven.
43:06Two-run triple.
43:08A ground down to two-run homer.
43:12And it'll be Taveras, Couser, and Jackson.
43:15The makeshift middle of the order in the tenth.
43:18Line to right field by Vargas.
43:20And this top of the tenth is far from finished.
43:23That ball sticks against the base of the wall.
43:25Vargas won't risk his chance at getting thrown out.
43:30He'll just take his double happily.
43:32And Vargas has a two-for-five day.
43:34Yeah, last three balls have been squared up.
43:37Home run by Del Castillo.
43:39The line drive.
43:40Kobe Mayo caught over third.
43:42And this ringing double down the right field line.
43:46Well, if you're Tyler Wells here,
43:48the Orioles cannot afford to give up another run.
43:58Arenado, one for four with a single.
44:00Scams it foul.
44:03Diamondbacks have had a lot of opportunities today, too.
44:06Runners in score position.
44:07Thirteen opportunities.
44:08They were a four for thirteen.
44:19Oh, and one from Tyler Wells.
44:23Got a strike.
44:26This team still has a challenge remaining.
44:28If you get to extra innings without a challenge,
44:30you get one back.
44:31For every inning, you start with zero.
44:33But each team had one.
44:35So you don't have any additional challenges.
44:380-2.
44:39Arenado in the air to center field.
44:42Base hit Arenado.
44:44And the Diamondbacks have opened it up with a three-run tenth.
44:49A two-strike slider that caught too much of the plate
44:53for Wells' liking.
44:54And Arenado has knocked in six in the series.
44:57It's eight to five.
44:58Early in this ballgame, we talked about it.
45:00Because if you look at Arizona Diamondbacks,
45:02they're only hitting .232 as a team.
45:04Eighteenth best coming in.
45:05But that's what they do well, man.
45:07Hitting with runners in score position,
45:09they were hitting .273.
45:12So about 40 points higher when it matters the most
45:15versus their overall batting average.
45:23Here's Drew French.
45:24Three runs, two earned against Wells
45:27in a difficult tenth inning.
45:29An Oriole bullpen that had really been rolling.
45:33Albert Suarez gave a three-run over to Arenado Monday.
45:36But other than that, the Orioles have been so well
45:39out of the bullpen in this series.
45:45Well, this is a tough tenth for Tyler.
45:48And the O's are going to need
45:50at least three to keep the game alive.
45:53Thomas is the sixth Diamondback to hit in the inning.
46:02Ground ball to Jackson.
46:05Three for Arizona in the tenth.
46:07We'll see if the O's have a rally in their bats.
46:12The young man's flashing the bird flap your wings symbol
46:18with the rally cap.
46:18Whatever it takes in the tenth
46:20against a right-hander in Juan Maria.
46:23With a great arm.
46:24The Orioles did touch him up, though, for a run yesterday.
46:26Yep.
46:27They've seen him a little bit.
46:28Making his tenth appearance of the year.
46:30A solid ERA in eight innings of work.
46:32Opponents hitting 172 off the right-hander, Maria.
46:35Marillo.
46:37Interestingly, the Diamondbacks do not
46:41go to Paul Seewald.
46:43Their closer, who only threw 11 pitches yesterday.
46:47They turn to Marillo with an 8-5 lead,
46:51three-run tenth for Arizona.
46:52Pete Alonso starts as the automatic runner at second.
46:56And Laoti Taveras is batting in the four spot.
47:00Jonathan Rodriguez started.
47:01It was over two of the walk.
47:02Taveras had a pitch hit.
47:03Single in his stead in the seventh.
47:07But since Laoti's single,
47:10eight up, eight down against the Diamondback bullpen.
47:13Ginkle, Clark, and Thompson.
47:16And two strikes quickly on Taveras.
47:19Yesterday, Maria threw 28 pitches.
47:21Only 14 strikes.
47:23Two-thirds of an inning.
47:24Two hits, two walks, and a run.
47:26Could not complete the eighth with command issues.
47:29He threw Taveras four straight change-ups.
47:32And on the fourth, allowed an RBI single.
47:35Here he throws him three straight fastballs.
47:38And he gets it out.
47:44Mills will take a look.
47:45But it certainly seemed like Taveras was late getting the first.
47:49And they'll say play up.
47:52That was a nice play.
47:53But the girl won't do it, man.
47:54He had to get the ball in and out of his glove because of the speed.
48:01Laoti Taveras.
48:04So the tying run remains on deck.
48:07Jeremiah Jackson is that tying run.
48:09He's had a monster game.
48:12Couser.
48:13This is 99.
48:15Told you yesterday, Maria's got an amazing mix.
48:19A slider with huge swing and miss up.
48:23A fastball right around there at 99 and a change-up.
48:31It's only his second year in the big leagues,
48:32sort of 419 ERA a year ago in 42 games.
48:43High strike with that change-up.
48:47Rather hard change-up it is.
48:55Ball and two strikes for Colton.
48:58Trying to get the tying run to the plate.
49:01He walked against Murillo yesterday on five pitches.
49:06Saw him very well.
49:08Didn't swing the bat.
49:09Laid off a couple of close ones.
49:17And he will lay off this one.
49:20And put himself in position for potentially another walk.
49:26Give Jeremiah Jackson a chance to tie it if Colton can reach.
49:30This is interesting here.
49:32Because if you're Murillo, you've got to throw a strike here.
49:34You're up by three.
49:36And he did.
49:38Couser was overmatched.
49:40And the Orioles are down to their final out.
49:42And you thought he might challenge him with a fastball.
49:44Certainly in that count, Colton Couser is going to get a change-up.
49:46We all know that.
49:47But because of the score, you read the scoreboard.
49:49No way.
49:50You're going to take your best pitch.
49:51And you're going to say,
49:51see if you can beat me on my best pitch.
49:53And Murillo did.
49:59So, Jeremiah Jackson will try to extend the game.
50:09Jack in the right field.
50:12And the Orioles fall short in ten.
50:15A tough ending to the homestand.
50:18Vibes were really high after the six-run comeback win on Monday.
50:22But they dropped a 4-3 game yesterday and an extra inning affair.
50:26Today, the Diamondbacks get three in the tenth and win it 8-5.
