00:30What should I do?
00:52Once we dam up river, the Peterson Place and all the land below, it won't be worse.
01:00Miss O'Brien.
01:03I just wanted to offer you my personal congratulations on your appointment, Sheriff.
01:07You have my complete support.
01:09Miss O'Brien, is it?
01:11Edwin Summers.
01:12I knew your father, a good man. My condolences.
01:18I came for my father's things.
01:21Right there in those boxes.
01:25That's my father's badge.
01:28He used to keep it in the top drawer of his desk.
01:32Doesn't have his name on it.
01:34Hand it over.
01:35There.
01:37Listen.
01:40What's going on here?
01:44If you take that out, you're gonna have to kill me.
01:49I've decided to run for my father's job.
01:53The papers will be filed in the morning.
02:08So what did you find out?
02:11They're making it as difficult as possible for us to file.
02:14Well, there are five sets of forms and a fee of $1,000.
02:19Fee's being covered by contributions.
02:22You got a lot of support.
02:24Well, Summers is going to be spending a lot of money in the next five days.
02:28A lot of people depend on him for their jobs.
02:30I talked to my friends at the Senior Center.
02:33They're ready to cancel this for you.
02:34They're mad, madder than you might think.
02:37There's going to be a show of support from the Friends of China O'Brien.
02:41We had a parade down Main Street and a rally on Saturday.
02:46You two are something else.
02:49Now, it's not going to be easy.
02:51Summers and his bunch will pull every dirty trick in the book.
02:54They're playing hardball.
02:57I'm in it.
02:58All the way.
03:17Here, please.

03:27Make sure you get to the bowl.
03:28Hello.
03:39You've heard the horror stories.
03:41The widespread corruption.
03:44We all know about the rich and powerful men who have come here and bought many of our elected officials.
03:50Men who have sold out for a few lousy dollars.
03:56There he is.
03:57Judge Goddard is one of those men who prefers the company of Summers.
04:02He drinks Summers whiskey.
04:04His decisions are bought and sold.
04:07You're wasting your time.
04:09You'll be repudiated in the polls.
04:14The honest people of this town aren't going to put up with you anymore.
05:23There's that kid from the Beaver Creek.
05:30He knows the Sorrento.
06:10Do you recognize any of her supporters?
06:15A few faces.
06:17We'll have to remind them where the power is.
06:58I'll go down by this reception.
07:01I'd like to thank you all for giving me your support.
07:04My father fought against the corruption that has found a foothold in our town.
07:09He paid with his life.
07:11With your help, I'm going to finish what he started.
07:40We have a legal permit to conduct this rally.
07:51See?
07:52Summer is even on the fire department.
08:08There's no way to kill me when I was a little bit.
08:11I'm going to finish what he's doing.
08:12I'm going to finish what he's doing.

12:22I hope you get to the polls on Tuesday.
12:24I'll be there, and God bless you.
13:02China, pull over!
13:09China, pull over!
13:12China, pull over!
13:31I'm sorry about you, Father.
13:35And I'm sorry I picked that fight with you at the Beaver Creek.
13:39It's over.
13:44Expecting someone?
13:46If anyone sees me, well, you never know.
13:52I'm glad you're running for sheriff.
13:54I want to help.
13:56Once in a while, Summers calls down to the inn for one of the girls to come play, as he
14:02puts it.
14:05I've been out there to that big house he has a couple times.
14:09You hear a lot of loose talk when everybody's been drinking, doing drugs and all that.
14:14I heard bits and pieces, you know.
14:17Enough to figure Summers had something to do with your father's death.
14:20Can you prove it?
14:21They were talking about bringing in some explosives expert.
14:29Shit.
14:31God damn it.
14:34I've got to go.
14:35Well, how can I get in touch with you?
14:37You can't.
14:38I'll call you.
14:51Morning, Matt.
14:52Hi, Maria.
14:53Is China in?
14:54Yeah, she's in the living room.
14:55How about some coffee?
14:57Sure.
14:59Hi, Matt.
15:01That same kid on a motorcycle is down the street.
15:06Maybe it's a different kid.
15:09Eh, could be.
15:17I think we should make sure.
15:24Now, we'll act like we're parting.
15:25I'll turn off now in the block and circle around.
15:28Who will see if all of you?
15:29Then you circle around.
15:39Well, we want it to look realistic, right?
15:42I guess so.
16:00I don't know.
16:50Come on, off the bike.
16:54You're the one that helped me out in Beaver Creek.
16:58I get around.
17:01What's your name?
17:03Dakota.
17:06What, just Dakota?
17:10Why have you been following us?
17:17Want one?
17:21We're on the same side.
17:35I've been racing my bike, little towns here and there around the country.
17:40While I was gone, my old man took off, left my mother.
17:47No great loss, if you know what I mean.
17:52When I called, they said she'd moved here.
17:55So when I hit town, I thought I'd go visit her.
17:59Went by her place.
18:01She wasn't there.
18:03The landlady said I could find her out at this place called the Beaver Creek.
18:28What do you want, Jack?
18:30I'm just a beer.
18:32And what are you looking for, mister?
18:37Oh, my God.
18:40Look who dropped in.
18:43Look who's here.
18:45It's my son, for Christ's sake.
18:48Sensational.
18:55Let me see you.
18:58How you been doing?
19:00I've been doing all right.
19:01We're in a couple races now and then.
19:04I'm real proud of you.
19:06I cut out an article from the sports page and I saved it.
19:11You had to find me.
19:12The landlady.
19:14Look, it just occurred to me you're not even old enough to be in here.
19:18So I want you to take this key and I'll meet you back at the house, okay?
19:22I have to break this up.
19:24Mommy's got to go to work.
19:25Hey, look, he was just leaving so you don't have to push.
19:28There's a guy waiting for you.
19:30Don't leave a customer.
19:32Wait.
19:33House rules.
19:33Let her go.
19:34Hey, come on, come on, come on.
19:37Get this.
19:38Get out of here.
19:41Let me go.
19:49Nobody touches the bar.
20:02Did you see your mother again?
20:05She's dead.
20:08Some kind of accident out of Viva Creek.
20:13I poked around some, didn't find out much.
20:16People are scared.
20:18This guy Summers is into some bad shit.
20:20Nobody wants to talk about him.
20:22We know.
20:25I'm sorry about your mother.
20:29I just want to find out the truth, how it happened.
20:32No.
20:35A Brian residence.
20:37I'm sorry about your mother.
