After a stretch of July- and August-like warmth, the heat in the mid-Atlantic will peak Thursday, then a cross-country cold front will bring cooler air to Chicago Saturday and the East Coast by late Sunday into Monday.
Transcript
00:00It has been a taste of July and August for much of the eastern third of the United States and
00:06especially into the mid-Atlantic since Tuesday of this week.
00:10It was a hot Wednesday and the heat will peak in the mid-Atlantic states as we head into Thursday.
00:16That's going to include Washington, D.C., Richmond, even toward Virginia Beach.
00:21There will be some cooling, though, eastern New England all the way down toward the Jersey Shore and the Maryland
00:27and Delaware beaches.
00:28Now, the heat's not going anywhere as we head into Friday.
00:31In fact, it's going to start expanding back into the Midwest.
00:34But once again, it's the mid-Atlantic states that will be well in the 80s.
00:40If you like the warmth, cherish the next couple of days because we have some huge changes on the way.
00:46I want to take you out into the northwest.
00:48Look at that spin coming into British Columbia.
00:51And you'll notice on the southern side of that, that stripe of clouds off the Oregon coast, that's a strong
00:56cold front.
00:56We're going to be tracking that across the country as we go through the rest of this week.
01:01Now, Thursday, it pushes through the Intermountain West.
01:04By Friday, we're in the Dakotas.
01:06Saturday, you're going to start feeling the cooler air in Chicago.
01:10And by late Sunday and Monday, the heat wave is over along the east coast.
01:15Let me show you what temperatures look like.
01:17Look what happens in Chicago.
01:19The heat peaks the end of this week on Friday, where temperatures will be almost, well, over 20 degrees above
01:26historical averages.
01:27But then by Sunday, we're several degrees below historical average.
01:32And then there's Washington, D.C.
01:35We could be breaking an all-time April record high on Thursday.
01:39And by Monday, we're barely pushing 60.
01:43We could be breaking an all-time April record high on Thursday.
