00:00Israeli and Lebanese officials have held their first direct talks since 1983 as Israel continues its military campaign against Hezbollah.
00:10Both sides met in Washington in discussions hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and spoke for more
00:17than two hours.
00:21Israel's attacks on Lebanon has put pressure on a fragile ceasefire agreed on April the 8th, which paused the U
00:28.S. and Israel's war on Iran for two weeks.
00:31There are differing views over whether Lebanon was included in that ceasefire.
00:36Iran and mediator Pakistan say it was, while the United States and Israel argue it was not.
00:42At the talks, Israel ruled out discussing a ceasefire and instead called on Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah.
00:49Lebanon, meanwhile, called for an end to the fighting, which has killed more than 2,000 people and displaced over
00:55a million.
00:57Despite those differences, both sides described the meeting in positive terms.
01:02Lebanon's ambassador to the United States, Nada Hamadeh Muawad, called the talks constructive,
01:06while Israel's ambassador, Ikel Leiter, described them as wonderful exchange.
01:12This is a lot more questions about ceasefire.
01:13This is a lot more than just about that.
