00:04on sale this week beautiful example of a gt junior oh man more interest in this car over the last
00:14week or 10 days i would suggest that anything we've had this year a very impressive car in
00:20even more impressive condition we want to tell you the same there aren't many nice alphas around
00:26so yeah little fiesta yeah xr2 fiesta and it's the one that attracts the most attention mainly that
00:33it's absolutely mint which it is for its age especially it's really really good the uh
00:39talbot sunbeam lotus out of all of them i know which one jack would pick is the sunbeam my first
00:45car believe it or not so fond memories of these the matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers
00:5555 the joys of an auction most people will go to a sale with something in mind but come away
01:00with
01:00something different the fun is the chase we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you
01:05just don't know what's on the end of the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors
01:09this is a family's love affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people
01:15will buy a car because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right
01:21here
01:30we go yeah wish someone would wash up we got some cakes as well i might have a bit of
01:35that in a
01:35minute anyway there you go so yeah ducking and diving and all the rest of it while some things never
01:43change change is afoot at the auction house you're going to be an auntie i know and jack's younger
01:51sister amy has a thing or two to say about it i think he is excited but obviously first time
01:57time
01:58dad so first time nerves it's meant to be a due date today but there's no signs of him coming
02:02just yet
02:03so we'll see first great grandchild and her granddad's really excited called a midwife i love
02:10the program but the actual subject of it you know with the childbirth and that i can't look at
02:15something like that i can't imagine jack changing now that's the only thing i can't yeah no like
02:21night feeds or anything like that i don't think he'll do it oh he'll do marbles on here he'll be
02:28absolutely bang on there he is there's a bit of nerves floating about and i'll keep pacing up and down
02:34the shed having a little boy so um yeah i'm over the moon no signs yet i had to cancel
02:40my rally
02:40yesterday as well so uh i thought just in case knowing my luck i'd have to go to them in
02:45hospital
02:45ain't rally car wouldn't i all i've been doing is waiting in the corridor so i said if you need
02:50me
02:50ring me you've got better things to do haven't you i've got word to do i've got to get these
02:53cars out
02:54otherwise people will be moaning at me i've already bought the first christmas present it is
02:59a mark ii escort rally car with a honda engine in the back for little kids mint in it baby's
03:05not
03:05even born yet i know but i saw it and thought yeah got to i've ordered it in white same
03:11as ours
03:11so we've got to get all our decals on it the same
03:16no i've never changed enough in my life i like i had hope no um yeah i'll let you know
03:23how i'll get
03:23on with that but i was hoping it'd just be before auction so it'd get me out of doing a
03:28bit of
03:29auctioneering but anyway it's just like a bit of a waiting game really until it pops out she might
03:34just get a sneeze and he and he's there hopefully that'd be handy wouldn't it so now i'm looking
03:44forward to it because you do don't you towards the end i mean meg's had enough jack's on tenderhooks
03:48so we're all like yeah it's like come on come on um but um it'll come when it's ready
03:55how's your chocolate be as a dad i think you'll be fantastic yeah i do
04:04i always get a bit emotional with stuff
04:07it's a bit big man hmm yeah
04:17with a baby on the way there's another junior arrival downstairs in the auction room
04:22an alpha gt junior that is
04:26i do love these cars i really really do people are probably gathered by now other than audi i'm not
04:31particularly a foreign car man but these are exceptional i had a 1300 version of this
04:37and it just flew and it was a pleasure to drive absolute pleasure beautiful example of a gt junior
04:45oh man and exceptional condition inside and out little cigarette burn on the driver's seat
04:53shame in it but it happened the car comes from an era where everybody smoked it's been painted down
04:59on the side here they are original reasonably dull new paintwork bright as a button so that's a
05:06giveaway for a star but i'm not knocking the car in general the car is fantastic most of these have
05:12been rebuilt twice since they were made this clearly hasn't it's clearly an absolutely fantastic
05:18genuine largely original car but every car picks up a bit of paint well you can't know about it you
05:23know it's a fact of life in it steering wheel mint dashboard gorgeous absolutely lovely yeah
05:30can you see yourself flying around the amount of the coast oh yeah a very impressive car in even more
05:34impressive condition because of what it is simple as that everyone will tell you the same there aren't
05:41many nice alphas around let's look how genuine and honest this is here look beautiful not been brushed
05:46in and messed about and all the rest of it it's just absolutely gorgeous lovely super better kit
05:57designed by giogiarra when he was just 19 as a young man's car this little italian number is as
06:03shapely as sophia loren the junior bit was a clever bit of alpha marketing the 1300 gt junior was one
06:11of the
06:11very first youth market cars cheap to insure and tax in italy the company carved up the market so drivers
06:18under 25 could afford to run alpha in 1972 alpha gave it a bit more oomph with the 1600 gt
06:26junior
06:27the same batoni style but a more powerful twin cam it was introduced to sit between the 1300 junior
06:35and the larger engine 2000 gtb a great looking car then that still turns heads now
06:46what is the market oh massive market big following for 60s and 70s alphas led largely i suppose by our
06:53enthusiasts but the fact that there aren't that many nice ones around just got to give what you got to
06:58give yeah 30 grand you know what's the point of buying a rotten one at 15 and spending 10 on
07:03it
07:03and it's still not as good as that you might as well give the 30 grand that's the way you
07:08got to look
07:08on it if you want the top one you've got to give top money wow these these are cracking ramps
07:17these are
07:21just let her out a bit jack amidst all the arrivals jack's still patiently waiting for his special delivery
07:36the other way round while paul's dealing with an unwanted passenger hiding in a classic come
07:43on jackie yeah whoa she's not a bad old rig that you know we've just had to put some new
07:49rubber pipes
07:49on because the little mickey our resident rodent decided it was going to help itself to all the
07:54fuel pipes under there so we've just done them so it would start and move and didn't weed diesel
07:59everywhere you know we're thinking of the planet really very green it is an issue nowadays isn't it
08:04and to be fair charlie's signed up now for this carbon positive thing this carbon neutral thing
08:09so every mile we do in a rally car costs us ever so much it's not a lot like they
08:14planted tree for
08:15every however many units we use so positive move isn't it isn't it yeah so we're on that job to
08:22try
08:22and offset our carbon footprint a little more you're not buying one of these sweet carbon
08:27someone i know you're buying one of these because they're iconic that is great britain isn't it
08:31there it is there it's cool isn't it so jack jack's talking himself into it look look i know yeah
08:38i do yeah right you don't see them do you find another two-door ranger over that's running and
08:45driving and it's got that better engine in it in my opinion and don't forget our little mate who's
08:52camped up under the dash there look i reckon that's his little bed in there look he's going on
08:56night in there look poor little lad poor little boy's probably got headache now with all your revving
09:01brilliant innit that wants oil in that
09:23still a bit surreal i think in it i don't think i've still quite got my head around it really
09:26yeah but no really good like his mint it's another day at the family dynasty and jack's partner meg has
09:33popped in for a visit with baby max we are lucky we've got lots of people aren't we we are
09:39we've been
09:39very lucky i'm just adjusting to having a mini jack with me 24 7 shall we say at least he
09:47goes to work
09:47him i'm stuck with so it's tricky i give him a bottle before we go to bed i don't know
09:56how you do
09:56it i suppose you're used to your night shifts being a nurse and all the rest of it aren't you
10:00your sleep pattern's so messed up but if i wake up it takes me ages to get back to sleep
10:05you see
10:06where meg can literally edit the pillow and that'll be it there'll be zed's coming out floating out the
10:11window but um no you're doing really well bless you aren't you i think as mums you just do it
10:15don't
10:16yeah it's just innate and i quite like it in the middle of the night because we get little cuddles
10:19and get to know him a bit more you get a full night's kick oh yeah coming to work and
10:25you do
10:26help when you come back from work as it turns out jack has other untapped potential is this jack giving
10:33meg parenting tips he's really good at burping oh maybe you're a natural he was giving you a false
10:40sense of hope at the start burping straight away sleeping not crying i thought we've cracked it
10:47three weeks on and that this is it just wait until he's 17. he's a bit tired now
10:56i've been cleaning cars few emails today aren't you this morning but
11:01driving test is next week so it'll be out in the lorry collecting in no time at all
11:07and a bit of auctioneering hey you've got it all to come lad
11:11i mean all right boyo
11:27that's you in it yeah in your racing days yeah that was with all your overalls on yep
11:32yeah yeah what did you say about yourself handsome looking chap on there didn't you
11:36no i wouldn't be like that
11:40des newall is well known around these parts among the motoring clubs
11:44but the photo album is closing on his lifetime love of motorsport and stock car racing
11:52he's very much a petrol head he's uh ever since i was born he's been tinkering with cars
11:57back from his racing days and from 1978 i always remember going to race meetings
12:03going to yarmouth on a thursday night as well tend to be asleep on the back seat so i'll get
12:07carried
12:07up to bed because i knew i had school the next morning
12:11des's wife marian son terry and daughter-in-law eloise are along for this final ride
12:19unfortunately dad's development dementia which means that you can't drive anymore
12:23so as a family we decided that we need to sell the cars and let them be loved again
12:31two of the cars are at me dad's house the lotus sunbeam and the ford 100e the fiesta is at
12:36the
12:36lock-up garage and the rs focus is at me wife's courtyard quite a collection we're a car mad family
12:43petrol heads we are first up the cars at des marian's house it's a 1958 ford 100e and it's fitted
12:51with a
12:52two litre pinto engine uh running on three litre capri running gear it's a sheep in wolf's clothing
12:59because if you're at a junction and a car is pulling out they'll think oh that's an old car
13:05that would be going slowly but you're not going slowly because it's got a two litre pinto in it
13:11we bought it off a friend of ours who built it in 1999 that was the first classic car that
13:20we'd
13:20bought so that was quite an exciting day over a decade later des purchased the 1982 talbot sunbeam
13:29lotus it was something that des had always wanted not many about so we thought we'd treat ourselves
13:39i think it's probably because it's a lotus it's real drive and they've got a lot of power
13:44well it's a hot hatch isn't it that's what the appeal is the sunbeams are used a lot on the
13:49oval racing
13:53down the drag stoned safely in a storage unit terry and wife eloise unveil a little showstopper
14:00to be honest it is my favorite one out of all of his cars and it's the one that attracts
14:05the most
14:06attention mainly that it's absolutely mint which it is for its age especially it's really really
14:11good they'd flock around as soon as we pull out a car show they'd flock around this and it's
14:17completely normal my car next to them but always a good day out providing the weather was good
14:24and the final car in the stable boasting a lot of horsepower is a 2003 ford focus rs
14:33compared to the fiesta this has got a lot more power it's got a more sportier feel to it more
14:38torque steer but out of the two i do prefer the fiesta is that love of those sporty cars do
14:44you
14:44think that's passed on to terry yeah it has yeah because if we get a car it can't be a
14:49basic car
14:50either it has to be something with some numbers or letters on the end of it yeah
14:56they're only worth what someone's prepared to pay for at the end of the day aren't they
14:59it's going to be interesting to see what they do actually go in an auction
15:11it's browsing time which turns out to be more fun for the regular crew than pushing stalled cars
15:34and one in particular is getting a lot of amore come here to look at a couple of escorts and
15:41this alfa
15:41remue what is it about the alfa remue that you like i like the look of it i like the
15:45style
15:46and the engine makes a distinctive noise and they're quite powerful as well i'm looking for
15:51something old i've had my eye on one of these i was at a show and saw quite a few
15:55so on my day off i pop
15:56down to have a look
16:01next up the 1977 alpha mo gt junior more interest in this car over the last week or 10 days
16:10i would
16:11suggest that anything we've had this year partly because of the super sensible guy partly because
16:19it's a lovely car we have got everybody in the hall here on phones today shall we do 10 11
16:2612 13 14 15
16:3016 500. they are let's sort the men out so there you so the rest of you might as well
16:34put your phone
16:35down 17 000 17 500. 18 on andy's phone 19 we've got in somerset 19 750 20 000 pounds in
16:44somerset
16:4522 23 says andy 23 andy 23 250 dave 24 750 and 24 750 and 25 david's been 26 000
16:58with david down here
17:0127 750 28 28 28 000 pound and it is sold to david 28 000 now there you go well
17:11done
17:12the alphas off to derek's old neck of the woods in bedfordshire
17:19paul's arrived in ipswich first up the two cars at des and marian's home
17:25hello how are you how are you nice to meet you very well thank you
17:29so we've come for these two then have we that's correct yes oh very good and neither have run for
17:34a little while no that's great yeah we've been stopping it all right but not recently what engines
17:40in this one then it's a two litre pinto oh is she's your pinto is it we're like a good
17:45pinto
17:46right well i'll get myself a battery pack and we'll see if they're going to start up and
17:49play ball eh well at least it's not raining i think we're going to be pushing it aren't we
17:59the carbs are empty on it so yeah well it's only a light little thing in it
18:05so eloise it's quite obviously a big moment for you guys it is a bit in it yeah yeah yeah
18:10it's
18:10quite emotional i think oh dear what have you done you've broken it
18:20it's a typical lotus that's what it is yeah yeah agreed hang on i'll put this on just give it
18:25a bit
18:25of help hang on yeah it doesn't want to go does it it's putting these parts on it wants to
18:31be a stay
18:32up it's not going to be a stay up here's going
18:39oh no no no no no there she is it's sweet all of that
18:46yeah this way a little bit yeah yeah you're okay yeah perfect it's loaded several cars on trailers in
18:55my stock car days oh oh you're into that job yeah we're all yeah everyone down here was weren't
19:01they yeah you won't compete anymore no i'm 50 now you know it's that's a young man's game isn't it
19:07getting knocked about in the car i think it is in it this is a quirky little thing a little
19:13pinto
19:13motor in it and they're just good fun so should cause good interest obviously not for the purest
19:18but to those of us that want something a bit different and want to get on a little bit they're
19:23ideal
19:24my old anglia look they'll get stopped by the police that's the trouble they did stop you a few
19:30times didn't they we used to use a lot of petrol on your journeys didn't you i can't think why
19:35he obviously liked his sporty bits as such he's collected some quite tasty motors really
19:41only let's be fair 20-ish on the lotus i suspect the little pop's gonna be four or five and
19:48the other
19:48two we'll have a look at when we get there smile granddad i didn't know how today was going to
19:54go
19:54but it's gone very well actually nice to see you thank you and you good to see you well done
19:59cheers
19:59thank you thank you very much hasn't happened before where we've lost all our cars in one
20:06go yeah onwards time to get the bus pass out next up the third wonder of ipswich the storage units
20:19if it will start we'll drive it out yeah look at that ain't that lovely that's a nice clean one
20:26well there you go mate all right see what happens shall we yes
20:30it's only a click oh hang on here you are ah it's not off is it no i'm gonna say
20:36i'm thinking
20:37hang on a minute we haven't got enough leads on here it was all right that's probably what i didn't
20:42see you must do without me would you there you go now she'll start right
20:49i could get a job down here can i
20:53great little car absolutely brilliant most of them of course were bought by a certain character and
20:59they've lived their life haven't they that's the polite way of putting it how can i word it
21:03politically most of them smashed up yeah we can't really gloss that up can we 17 18 19 000
21:10quid isn't uncommon for a really good little fiesta which is bad in it more than it was new
21:15ready to pick a focus apple i am good lad many miles 83. not killed with miles then no
21:26oh hey listen to that i like it obviously this one wants a bit of welding doesn't it
21:33not everyone's got top money perhaps a bit of recommissioning work doesn't it really
21:37other than that make a good cow on it seven or eight grand i think good right well my tack
21:43of grass
21:43is ticking away so i'm gonna run yeah see you later bye safe journey home that's the fastest they've gone
21:49for a long time
22:07it's the start of another week
22:12there you go and the troubleshooting never ends paulia ian bridge has called in the big guns
22:20to help get this piaggio going we've got sutty who can build them we've got charlie who can ride them
22:30and i'm on i'm observing hey i don't know what i'm doing go on mate you've got it charlie
22:41we're on fuel it's saying it's got a full tank and her moped's confusing us
22:50go on then let's give her indicators are on any hazard warnings are on
22:57and in a calmer pocket of the auction universe dave's feasting his eyes on former stock car
23:02racer des newell's collection of fast cars so we've got the fiesta the focus the little anglia and the
23:09sunbeam up there the angle is the odd one out obviously doesn't take a lot of working out does
23:13it that my favorite's up that end but we'll come back to that in a minute so yeah little fiesta
23:16yeah
23:17xr2 fiesta 16 000 miles when you look around the car seats carpets foot pedals rubbers steering wheel
23:26gear knob door cards there's lots to suggest that the mileage could be right there's also a few things
23:32that i'm not quite comfortable with the fact that it's obviously had a coat of paint at some stage
23:38which yeah okay they pick up marks and bits and pieces but with 16 000 careful miles should it have
23:45had a coat of paint should it have needed a coat of paint i'm not so sure i suppose the
23:49giveaway is
23:49going to be underneath here that shouts 16 000 miles that certainly isn't a big mileage engine bay
23:58that all sits right it's just the fact that it's had a coat of paint and i can get it
24:03because obviously
24:04they weren't they weren't exactly rust-proofed extremely well it's a great little car it's in
24:09nice order not a hundred percent convinced with the speedometer reading i don't know just something
24:13there the back can be a bit of a giveaway by that i mean that's got the right tyre and
24:19it's still got
24:20the bobbles on another really good sign is which is always missing on a mileage car is the exhaust
24:27they've got like a heat deflecting shield on there which is like new this car makes you into a bit
24:34of
24:34a whirlwind really you go from one extreme to the other you look at it and you think that's lovely
24:38then
24:39you think well that doesn't quite stack up but then you think hang on i mean no you you're like
24:42that you really are like that if you turned it upside down you could substantiate that mileage
24:47reading there's just one or two bits on the surface that just puts the element of doubt in your mind
24:53oh look i've got a cup of tea here can i grab a cup of tea yeah of course whereas
24:56the focus
24:57is warts and all wouldn't it what you see is what you get it's not trying to be anything it's
25:02not
25:0383 000 miles well that all rings true doesn't it straight away because it looks like it's an 83 000
25:08miles you're ready i haven't even seen inside here yet but i've heard what it's got in this is
25:13yeah this is obviously why it sits in the stable with the others because they didn't produce them
25:18with a two litre pinto and if you're going to put anything in one of these i suppose a two
25:22litre pinto
25:23is ideal isn't it i mean nowadays you'd put a z-tech in good little conversion that i bet back
25:27in the
25:28day i bet this was out of a car out of all of them i know which one jack would
25:33pick is the sunby
25:35my first car believe it or not so fond memories of these they are a good car but i've never
25:40really
25:40thought of them as a great car there's a few on the rally scenes that look very much like that
25:44one
25:44there which is obviously a famous livery it's a works livery that one there parts are becoming
25:48really difficult for these now there's not a lot of remanufactured parts if any that's where the
25:53ford's come into it because you can pick the phone up and get anything you want from mark one and
25:56mark two escort yeah there you go quite futuristic for its time really a twin cam lotus lump ford were
26:05producing what's in the little angular there the single overhead cam and then sunbeam came along
26:10and managed to graft one of these which is fairly good underneath though that's what i sell that car
26:15it's good underneath there four saleable cars some weeks back via email before i even saw them we
26:21were perhaps talking 20 i think i think we're just a little bit out on because my expectations were
26:27a little distorted is the fiesta so the focus will do up to 10 it won't do 10 but it'll
26:33do up to 10.
26:34a little angular probably do three and a half four the sunbeam will carry on and do 20. you can't
26:41be too
26:41fussy with a tolbert sunbeam because there's not a lot that come on the market so it's a little bit
26:46supply and demand with a sunbeam out of all of them that's the most salable one
26:552700 that it all done then 27 171 is a squib specific sign oh look at that oh that's a
27:03beauty
27:04back at auction day and while there's hot competition for the cutest award it seems there's a clear winner
27:11a little rooster keeping me up all night aren't you as soon as you bring him in to see anyone
27:16he's

30:44five grand over the estimate it's a double whammy for terry and eloisa's mate gavin
30:49who didn't want to let the motors out of his sight
30:56as for the others the talbot sunbeam lotus 25-3 and 4 and 5 25-5 it's gone at 25
31:06-5 thank you very
31:07much 25-5 soars past his reserve for a new life in northern ireland
31:14and the 1959 pinto popular 5 100 pounds 5 1 roars over the finish line a lot better than we
31:24expected
31:24brilliantly yeah i'm really surprised at the focus because that had been sitting for a long time at
31:29a garage waiting to be repaired and waiting for mot and it hadn't got there so actually we thought it
31:35was kind of worth spares and repairs money but actually we're so chuffed it went for that price that
31:41it did it was absolutely brilliant and i think the fiesta and focus went to your friend gavin
31:47hasn't it i know through the stock race we're involved in yeah yeah it's nice to know that
31:51they're going to be back out and used and getting the attention that we've always got when we've been
31:55out with them haven't we yeah tick tick tick tick tick you know ideal so four out of four sold
32:00and sold well
32:14uh
32:28while the warehouse crew deal with a runaway tractor terry and eluisa's friend gavin taber is
32:34collecting his two fords we know the owners of the cars that's half the reason we've got them because we
32:40know the history of them we know who's owned them and we know they're going to be right so yeah
32:44it
32:44meant a bit more to us knowing where they've come from i knew um there's had a fiesta that was
32:48meant
32:48to be very nice and low mileage i didn't know he had a focus rs which is what i was
32:52predominantly
32:53looking for for my collection so yeah terry said that they were both his and they were going i shot
32:57dad up here to come and have a good look around them for me one day and then had a
33:01bid i've looked at a lot
33:03of focuses and you're buying something that's honest genuine and right they're both going to
33:08be 20 miles from where they've spent most of their life
33:16it's auction day and the signs are clear are you looking for yourself are you just looking at
33:22what's there so that you're informed when you're watching them well got a little bit of an idea
33:27what i'm talking about you know not much idea like but a lot of signs yeah a lot of clocks
33:33and things
33:33they always sell well especially them raf ones every station adam of course and some are genuine
33:38some are repros good of a job but tell which is which to be perfect frankly but that ain't a
33:43repro
33:44it's a genuine bacon very nice these are all repros of course but still look nice on the wall
33:52and they're very expensive you know i've got a collection in our museum that cost a bloody fortune
33:59in their day or original fire and they don't look any different than that you know put them up
34:03there 10 of the price i would imagine it's show time and there's top competition for the top town
34:10spot the repro a round sign the tadcaster sign look repro reproduction but an older reproduction
34:19and a lovely looking bit of kip 200 pound and going are you all done 200 pounds sold the a

35:04tadcaster third shrewsbury second and ashford first place at a whopping 600 pounds
35:151972 range rover now this is an early one very very sound motor there's someone renting some space in it

36:04range rover
36:06open the bonnet and there was a little mickey looking at me lovely little thing i'm not particularly keen on
36:11rodents and stuff you know but but you couldn't help but think oh it was a lovely little mouse
36:19i tried to catch it and it trundled off down the chassis leg and popped up in the bulkhead
36:24so yeah poor little mouse
36:31i am from italian descent my parents came over to england in the mid 50s i don't know if you
36:37know much
36:37about bedford and bedfordshire but we used to have the highest population of italian immigrants because
36:42they primarily come over for work so yes there is a big following for italian cars in bedford i'd say
36:48whether it be alpha fiat lancia maserati ferrari there's a few fanatics i'd say
36:57italian heritage runs deep in bedford angelo bosco couldn't be happier with the sequel to his
37:02alpha romeo gt even if it did cost a few more bobs second time round when i was in my
37:09early 20s i had
37:10one paid 100 pound but i couldn't really afford to have it restored at the time when i took it
37:15to the
37:15body shop it was quite expensive and they couldn't give me a definite price so i ended up selling it
37:21for
37:21150 pound and really always missed one and i'd looked for years and years and it was just one monday
37:27evening i happened to go on the website and saw the alpha being on the wednesday i bid on it
37:33so i
37:33really bought it a little bit blind and unfortunately paid probably more than double of the reserve
37:39restorer stephen grove is no stranger to the classic car game and for the last few months he's patiently
37:45bought angelo's alpha back to life
37:49ang i think had a very keen eye when this came up for auction
37:52he was skeptical whether the mileage was as genuine or not
37:56it's 100 genuine as soon as i looked underneath i knew this 10 000 miles a seat will tell the
38:02story
38:03of a car the wear on the steering wheel the gear shifter the mats everything on this car is
38:08literally like you've just bought it from alfa romeo but 40 odd years ago it's incredible
38:14it's a 1600 twin cam alfa romeo engine everything here has been chemically cleaned and washed down
38:22the fuel in it could have been two decades old it's partially set inside the fuel tank
38:26and that took about a month of acid cleaning to get the fuel tank to come up clean again
38:31once that's in some fresh fuel a new battery and they should hopefully start first time and then
38:37ang gets a phone call and he comes to my unit and he'll be the first to drive it down
38:42the road
38:42so i'm excited to see his face i won't even look out the window i'll just be looking at the
38:45smile on his face
38:47although most parts remain original every detail has been painstakingly cleaned to knock 40 years
38:53off along with the paint job that angelo's seen for the first time today it's more than good this is
39:01definitely definitely super impressed me i just can't explain how excited i am it's brilliant it's
39:06just the shine on it and just the level of finish there's no orange peel it's just immaculate
39:11you know in the future somebody says how good was the restoration on this it's not been restored
39:17it's just been made to look perfect again and i think that that speaks volumes
39:22when it's all finished any idea i'm not just going to be worse it doesn't really matter
39:27to me it's worth millions in my heart now so it's not about monetary here it's about the passion and
39:34about bringing back some nice memories he's an italian man with a flair for italy and a flair
39:40for italian sports cars so he's bought something he used to own regretted selling so my impression
39:46is this one is going to be a keeper
39:56first time i saw one myself and a couple of mates were riding our bicycles up on the glory and
40:01one
40:02passed us on the road and the noise of it and the presence of it that really helped me you
40:06know
40:07as a teenager i was in the poster car which i had on the wall in my bedroom
40:13in northern ireland retired garage owner brian greaves has finally landed his dream car
40:19and he's the proud owner of the 1982 talbot sunbeam lotus
40:26i always admired them that could never afford them it was just the fact that lotus had taken a
40:32standard car and put a performance engine in it they were going up against ford's rs2000s and whatnot
40:38and it seemed to be an awful lot more powerful a lot quicker my first sunbeam was a 1600s it
40:44must
40:44have been about 18 maybe 19 and i painted it black and put a silver stripe on it and got
40:49the lotus wheels
40:50for it i couldn't afford the real thing but that was as close as i get there at the time
40:53now that
40:55he's landed the real thing he's getting it into shape but the car resprayed at the moment we're
41:01working on the interior i've got two new seats in the front but the back seats are going to have
41:04to
41:04get those recovered to match the front seats these are the door cards that came on the car and they've
41:10been recovered at some stage that's like an alcantara effect but um i'm probably going to change this
41:17at some stage i haven't decided yet what i'm going to do with them but um maybe do something
41:22maybe a wee bit more original i just need a wee bit of homework on it what i decide what
41:27i'm going
41:27to do with it luckily enough there's very very little rot on it there's a bit of a history with
41:33the car and it seems that the car had been reshelled there has been welding done to it in the
41:37past but
41:38it was all fairly decent and usable my idea of sunbeam would have been a road going rally version
41:44so you'd have been looking at there you know the white arches the rally arches and the 15-inch wheels
41:49and these are the wheels that we got for it and we had to cut the old arches out make
41:54room for the
41:54bigger wheels that was personally what i wanted if the car had been original i wouldn't have messed
42:01with that i would have took it back to originality but because it wasn't original then we decided we'll
42:05go this way with it it's not a car i'm doing up to sell it's a car i'm doing up
42:08to keep for myself
42:09a wee mishap whenever we're taking the one screen right i know that they're very prone to cracking
42:13so i was very very careful taking it out but it it still cracked on me it cracked so easily
42:19i put on to a few guys to see if i can source a one screen for it i've been
42:22told that i can
42:24but nobody has come forward with the one screen yet but i'm quite confident oh they'll get one
42:31the engine seems to be running fine now at the minute so i don't think we need to go any
42:34further
42:35with that whenever the car first came the battery was in here so i removed the bracket flat and put
42:40it back the way it was supposed to be strip and rebuild the carbs put new seals and floats in
42:45the
42:45carbs and put a new electric fuel pump on it and i have it starting on the button now
42:55it's basically the same engine that they notice having the spree
42:59are you going to rally it no no i'm not i'm not going to go to all this trouble and
43:03then wreck it
43:05i just want to pay homage to the rally carers i'd like this one to be seen
43:09i would like to take it to shows and whatnot we're going to go along plenty of time
43:33so
43:41so
43:42so
