00:08Texas Republican Tony Gonzalez says he will resign from the House when Congress returns this morning,
00:13after weeks of pressure from both parties.
00:16He had already said he would not run for re-election after admitting to having an affair with a staff

00:21a violation of House rules.
00:23Gonzalez was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee
00:26and facing a possible expulsion vote later this week.
00:30Instead, he announced on social media he would, quote,
00:33file my retirement from office, calling it a privilege to serve Texas.
00:37The staff member involved later died by suicide.
00:41It is not yet clear exactly when Gonzalez's resignation will take effect.
