00:02One of the most powerful Democrats in Congress says he is not done yet.
00:07South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn, now 85 years old, announced he will run for another term in the House.
00:14Clyburn has been in Congress since 1993, becoming the first black lawmaker elected from South Carolina since Reconstruction.
00:22Over three decades, he rose into the top ranks of House Democratic leadership and became one of the party's most
00:28influential power brokers.
00:30He is perhaps best known nationally for one moment in 2020, when his endorsement helped revive Joe Biden's struggling presidential
00:38campaign just days before the South Carolina primary.
00:42Now, even as several longtime Democrats step aside, including Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, Clyburn says he still believes he
00:51has work left to do.
00:52I do believe that I'm very well equipped and healthy enough to move into the next term, trying to do
01:08the things that are necessary to continue that pursuit of perfection.
01:14This could very well be my last term, and it could very well not be. We'll just see how things
01:23go.
01:24If re-elected Clyburn would be 88 years old by the end of his next term, at a time when
01:29both parties are facing growing pressure from younger candidates calling for a generational shift in Washington.
