00:39THE END
01:03THE END
01:04It was Christmas time once again.
01:06For most people, it was a time of giving and a time of celebration.
01:10But for one man, Ebenezer Scrooge, Christmas was nothing of the sort.
01:15For Scrooge, this Christmas was also the seventh anniversary of the death of his partner, Jacob Marley.
01:22Scrooge and Marley were partners for many years.
01:25Even so, Scrooge was not terribly upset by Marley's passing, working on the very day of Marley's funeral.
01:33Scrooge was a mean man who was feared by many.
01:36And no one in all of London feared Scrooge more than his unfortunate employee, Bob Cratchit.
01:45Yes, Mr. Scrooge?
01:47What o'clock is it?
01:49It's... it's... three o'clock, Mr. Scrooge, sir.
01:53And the workday is far from over.
01:55So might I inquire as to why you are not working?
01:59Well, I... well, you see, I... I'm very sorry, sir.
02:06A Merry Christmas, Uncle.
02:08And to you, too, Bob Cratchit.
02:11Thank you, sir. Thank you. And a Merry Christmas to you.
02:14Bah! Humbug!
02:17Christmas? A humbug, Uncle? Surely you don't mean that.
02:21I most certainly do. Merry Christmas.
02:25What right have you to be merry? What reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough.
02:31Well, that's so. Then what right have you to be unhappy? You're rich enough.
02:38Bah, I say. Bah! Humbug!
02:41Oh, come now, Uncle. Don't be cross with me.
02:44And what else should I be when you come in here acting like a fool shouting Merry Christmas?
02:50Oh, Merry Christmas. What's Christmas to you but a time for paying bills without money?
02:55A time for finding yourself a year older, not an hour richer?
02:58If I had my way, every idiot who goes around with Merry Christmas on his lips would be boiled in
03:05his own Christmas pudding.
03:06Is that any way to keep the spirit of Christmas?
03:09Keep the Christmas spirit in your way, nephew, and let me keep it in mine.
03:14But you don't keep it.
03:16Ha! As if Christmas has ever done you any good.
03:21Maybe I haven't profited in the way you mean, but there are many good ways in which I've benefited from
03:27Christmas.
03:28Christmas is a good time. A kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time.
03:34And it's a time when people open their hearts to their fellow men.
03:38So, Uncle, though it's never put a piece of gold in my pocket, I believe it has done me good
03:42and will do me good.
03:44And I say, God bless it.
03:49Oh, no.
03:54Oh, my. Now I've done it.
03:59I'm sorry. My goodness, I'm clumsy today.
04:03There's what your Christmas has done for me.
04:05Let me hear another sound from you and you'll keep Christmas by losing your job.
04:11Don't be angry, Uncle.
04:13In fact, to cheer you up, why don't you come to Christmas dinner at our home?
04:17The only way you will get me to set foot in your home is to wait until I am dead
04:22and then drag me there.
04:24But why, Uncle Scrooge?
04:26Be on your way, nephew.
04:27I've never asked anything from you except that we be friends.
04:31I think you are leaving.
04:33Very well, Uncle.
04:34Though it saddens me to see you so angry with me, I'll wish you a Merry Christmas all the same.
04:39Out!
04:41And a Happy New Year.
04:45Bah! Humbug!
04:48Now what? Can I have no peace?
04:52Have I the pleasure of addressing Mr. Scrooge or Mr. Marley?
04:55My former partner, Mr. Marley, has been dead seven years this very night.
05:01Ah, then, Mr. Scrooge, I'm pleased to make your acquaintance.
05:04And I'd be pleased if you would state your business so I can return to mine.
05:09I represent a group of businessmen who take up a collection for the poor at Christmas time.
05:14As you know, there are thousands of needy people in want of common comforts.
05:20Are there no prisons?
05:21There are many prisons.
05:23And the workshops are in operation?
05:25They are, though I wish they were not.
05:28The workers there do not earn enough to buy meat or warmth or decent shelter.
05:33So we are donating money to provide some of these things to the less fortunate.
05:39What shall I put you down for?
05:41Nothing.
05:41I do not celebrate Christmas and I do not give away money so others can make merry.
05:46I do help support the prisons and workhouses, however, and those who are bad off should go there.
05:53Many would rather die.
05:54If they're going to die, so be it.
05:56At least it will decrease the surplus population.
05:59There are too many poor people on the streets as it is.
06:02But the poor are...
06:03The poor are none of my business.
06:05This is my business and I need to attend to it.
06:08So good afternoon, sir.
06:10Oh, my God.
06:58Right on time when it comes to leaving, eh, Cratchit?
07:03Well, sir, unless you've something else for me to do.
07:06You'll want the whole day off tomorrow, I suppose.
07:10If it's convenient, sir, it is Christmas.
07:13It's not convenient and it's not fair.
07:16If I deducted your day's pay, you wouldn't think me fair, would you?
07:21And yet you think nothing of me having to pay you a full day's wages for no work.
07:27It is only once a year, sir.
07:30A poor excuse for picking a man's pocket every 25th of December.
07:35But I suppose you must have the whole day off.
07:39Be here all the earlier the next morning.
07:42Oh, yes, sir.
07:43I shall, sir.
07:44And thank you, sir.
07:59Oh, yes, sir.
08:37Jacob?
08:39Jacob, Mark!
09:27No, no, I won't have this.
09:29Do you hear me?
09:30I won't have this.
09:39Double nonsense.
09:40Double nonsense.
10:09No, it can't be, Jacob.
10:27Jacob, Jacob, is that you?
10:35No!
10:36What do you want with me, Jacob?
10:37Much.
10:39No, I can't believe it.
10:41I won't believe it.
10:43Believe it and trust me.
10:46It must be something I hate.
10:49Do you believe in me or not?
10:55I do.
10:57I do, I do, I do, I do.
10:58But why do you wear chains, Jacob?
11:01You were a good man in business.
11:03Business?
11:06I was good in the business of taking advantage of people.
11:10And now I am paying the price.
11:16Hear me, for soon I must leave.
11:19I am here to warn you that you still have a chance to escape my fate, Ebeneezer.
11:27Oh, thank you, Jacob.
11:30Thank you, thank you.
11:32You always were a good friend.
11:34You will be haunted by three spirits tonight.
11:39Maybe I was hasty in calling him a good friend.
11:47Without their visit, you will suffer what I suffer.
11:52Expect the first spirit to call when the clock tolls one.
11:57The next will come with a stroke of two o'clock, and the third at three.
12:05Can't we do this in the morning, Jacob?
12:08I'd like to get a good night's sleep.
12:11Hope to see me no more, Ebeneezer.
12:15But for your own sake, remember what I have said.
12:22No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
12:33no, no.

13:22You can't hide a heart's system.
13:30Pathways you have always followed.

22:30funny how easily impressed young men are
22:32all it took was a little money spent on a party
22:36and they thought so highly of Fezziwig
22:39but it wasn't the money Fezziwig spent that made us think highly of him
22:43it was the way he treated us
22:45making us all feel important

28:16here I am father
28:17here I am
28:18I should have known better
28:25and how did tiny Tim behave in church?
28:28Wonderfully. He's growing stronger each day.
28:34The boy does not look well to me.
28:36Bob Cratchit only speaks words he wishes were true.
28:41And now, Master Peter Cratchit,
28:43take your brothers and fetch the Christmas goose from the bakery.
28:47Aye, Father. I get to go for the goose?
28:50Indeed you do, my boy.
29:03Never was there such a goose.
29:06And now for a Christmas toast.
29:08I hear you. Why are we back?
29:21A Merry Christmas to us all, my dears.
29:24And God bless us.
29:26God bless us.
29:28Will Tiny Tim live, spirit?
29:31I see a vacant seat by the chimney corner,
29:33and a crutch without an owner.
29:36If these shadows remain, unaltered by the future,
29:39the child will die.
29:41No, no. Oh, no, kind spirit.
29:45Say he will be spared.
29:47Why does it bother you?
29:49If he's going to die, so be it.
29:51At least it will decrease the surplus population.
29:53There are too many poor people on the streets as it is.
29:57Or so I've heard.
29:59A toast to Mr. Scrooge,
30:02without whom this feast could not have taken place.
30:07Oh, to Mr. Scrooge indeed.
30:09I wish I had him here.
30:11I'd give him a good piece of my mind.
30:13My dear, it's Christmas Day.
30:16I'll drink to his health for your sake,
30:18and because it's Christmas, but not for his.
30:21Long life and a Merry Christmas to him.
30:24He'll be very merry, I've no doubt.
30:26To Mr. Scrooge.
30:29Enough.
30:31Enough indeed.
30:41Let me out of here.
30:48When this is over,
30:50I'm going to buy myself some new sheets.
30:52And bed curtains.
31:05Are you the ghost of Christmas yet to come?
31:11I know, stupid question.
31:13And you will show me the shadows of things that have not yet happened,
31:17but will happen as time goes on?
31:20Ghost of the future,
31:22I fear you more than any spirit I've seen this night.
31:26But as I know you are here to do me good,
31:29and that I am not the man I once was,
31:32I ask you to lead on.
31:47I don't know much about it, except that he's dead.
31:49When did he die?
31:51Last night, I believe.
31:53What did he do with his money?
31:54I've no idea, except that he didn't leave it to me.
32:00I expect it'll be a cheap funeral.
32:02I can't imagine who'd go.
32:07Well, I'll go to it, but only if there's a free lunch.
32:16I know these men.
32:18I've done business with them all.
32:20Who is it that's died,
32:21and why are they acting so coldly?
32:46That's okay.
32:48I don't know.
32:50I'm sorry.
32:51Buddy.
32:52I'm sorry.
32:53You're the ghost.
32:53I'm hungry.
32:59Oh, let's see what you've brought me this time, Mrs. Dilbert.
33:11Oh, but it's a good bundle.
33:13Not that I do this sort of thing often.
33:16My woman's got to take care of herself, doesn't she?
33:20A wicked old man he was.
33:22And them's the truest words ever spoken.
33:26And what have we here, bed curtains?
33:32You don't mean to say you took them down, rings and all?
33:36I most certainly do, and why not?
33:40My dear, you were born to make a fortune.
33:50spirit i understand you've shown me how some poor man has been treated after his death
33:56and that i might end up being like him unless i change my ways spirit take me from this dreadful
34:04place if you do i swear i will learn the lessons this room holds surely someone in this city must
34:12mourn for this man someone must have had their lives touched by his passing
34:32mother to your eyes hurt oh it's nothing dear i'll fetch another candle no no peter they're much
34:41better now besides we must save our candles it's past time for your father to be home yes mother but
34:48i think he walks a little slower lately i've known him to walk very quickly with with tiny tim upon
34:56his shoulders and so have i i too mother but then tim was very light to carry and your father
35:04loved him
35:04so there was no trouble no trouble at all
35:15here comes your father now
35:17is
35:18right
35:18is
35:25is
35:46so
35:47we
35:50Oh, don't grieve, Father.
35:52Please.
35:53Oh, but I'm not.
35:55I know Tiny Tim's happy now.
36:05Oh, my child.
36:07Oh, my little, little boy.
36:10Why, of all places have you brought me here.
36:14What can the death of the man we saw
36:16have to do with the death of poor Tiny Tim?
36:37I know it is the man who died,
36:40but I cannot look at the dame on the stone.
36:45All right, I'll look.
36:47But first, answer one question.
36:50Are these the shadows of things that will be
36:52or the shadows of things that may be?
36:55Tell me I can change what is to be
36:58if I change my own ways.
37:05I am the man who died?
37:07Who those people cared so little about?
37:11No, spirit.
37:13No, no.
37:15I am not the man I once was.
37:17I will not be the man I was.
37:20Tell me I can change the things you've shown me.
37:22I will honor Christmas in my heart
37:24and keep it all year.
37:26I will live in the past, present, and future.
37:29The spirits of all three will live in me.
37:31I'll remember the lessons you've taught.
37:33Only tell me I can erase the name on this tombstone.
37:37Tell me I can save Tiny Tim.
38:03I will live in your life.
38:09Oh, my wonderful, wonderful bed curtains.
38:13They're still here.
38:15The curtains are still here, and I'm still here,
38:18and the shadows of things that may be can still be changed.
38:25I don't know what to do.
38:27I'm as light as a feather.
38:29I'm as happy as an angel.
38:40I'm as merry as a schoolboy.
38:44A happy new year to all the world.
38:47There's the door Jacob Marley came through.
38:51There's the window where I saw the wandering spirits.
38:54It's true.
38:55It all happened.
39:06What day is it?
39:08I say, my fine fellow, what day is today?
39:12Today?
39:13Well, it's Christmas Day.
39:15Christmas Day?
39:16I haven't missed it.
39:17The spirits have done it all in one night.
39:19They can do anything they like.
39:21Of course they can.
39:22Listen, my fine boy.
39:24Do you know the poultry shop on the next block?
39:27Of course I do.
39:28Oh, an intelligent boy, a remarkable boy.
39:31Do you know if they've sold that prize turkey
39:34they had hanging in the window?
39:36You know, the big one?
39:36What?
39:37The one as big as me?
39:39Oh, what a delightful boy.
39:41Yes, yes, that's the one.
39:43It's hanging there now.
39:45It is?
39:46Well, go and buy it.
39:48Ha, ha, some joke.
39:51No, no, wait, wait, dear boy.
39:53I mean it.
39:59Tell them to bring it here so I can give them directions where to take it.
40:03Come back with a man and I'll give you a shilling.
40:06Come back with a bit less than five minutes and I'll give you half a crown.
40:10Yes, sir!
40:16I'll send it to Bob Cratchits.
40:18He shan't have the slightest idea who sent him a turkey twice the size of Tiny Tim.
40:28Has anyone ever seen such a turkey as this?
40:34But, but who could have sent it to us?
40:37Who could afford such a bird?
40:39Only one man I know could afford this turkey.
40:42You, you don't mean...
40:45Well, you can't mean Mr. Scrooge.
40:58No, mister.
41:19You, there!
41:21A merry Christmas to you.
41:23And as for what you can put me down for to help the poor...
41:29But, Mr. Scrooge, to donate such a sum as that...
41:33I know, I know.
41:35But I have a good many years to make up for.
41:42And you be sure to come see me next Christmas.
41:45You be sure to come see me next month.
41:48I shall, Mr. Scrooge.
41:49And a merry Christmas to you.
42:01Uncle Scrooge?
42:02Yes, Fred.
42:03Here to accept your invitation to dinner.
42:06If you still have me.
42:09Have you?
42:09Well, you can't know how much this means to me.
42:13Come in.
42:13Come in.
42:18See here, dear friends.
42:20I want to introduce you to my Uncle Scrooge.
42:22He's come to join us for dinner.
42:29Can you forgive an old man for never coming to visit your home?
42:39I don't understand what's come over him.
42:42I'm so glad he's here that I don't particularly care what's come over him.
42:45But it is a mystery.
42:48It's no mystery, Fred.
42:50Christmas has come into his heart.
42:59A quarter past nine.
43:02Oh, but it's just too perfect.
43:15Crash it!
43:17What do you mean by coming here at this time of day?
43:20I'm very sorry, sir.
43:22I am late.
43:23Yes, you are.
43:25Come into my office.
43:27It's only once a year, sir.
43:29It shall not be repeated.
43:30I was making rather merry yesterday.
43:33I am not going to stand for this sort of thing any longer.
43:37And therefore...
43:40I'm going to raise your salary.
43:43Sir?
43:44You heard me, Bob.
43:46I'm raising your salary.
43:47And a merry Christmas to you.
43:50And I'm going to help your family.
43:53We'll discuss your affairs this very afternoon over lunch.
43:56Lunch?
43:57Sir, you're going to take me to lunch?
43:59I am indeed.
44:01And when we get back,
44:02we're going to stoke a fire in your office
44:04to drive off the cold that's been there all these years.
44:07But I...
44:09Yes, yes, I know, I know.
44:18Hooses ringing, children singing, Christmas time is near.
44:22Bells and holly, let's be jolly, spread some Christmas cheer.
44:26Spirit's bright, a wondrous sight.
44:28There's magic in the air.
44:30It's a fairy.
44:31Oh, so merry Christmas everywhere.
44:42Fire's glowing, now it's snowing.
44:44Stars light up the night.
44:46Many places, smiling faces,
44:48filled with such delight.
44:50Fanta's near with eight reindeer.
44:52Here there's magic in the air.
44:54Here there's magic in the air.
44:54It's a fairy.
44:55Oh, so merry Christmas everywhere.
45:03All year long, we count the hours, till it's Christmas day.
45:12Gifts and toys for girls and boys, packin' Santa's sleigh.
45:26Merry Christmas presents underneath the tree.
45:30In our tummies, sweets and yummies from the bakery.
45:34All the fun has just begun.
45:37There's magic in the air.
45:38It's a fairy.
45:39Oh, so merry Christmas everywhere.
45:55Scrooge was better than his word.
45:57And he came to be known throughout London for his good deeds.
46:01And to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father.
46:06He became as good a friend, as good a master,
46:08and as good a man as the old city knew.
46:12And it was said that no one knew how to keep Christmas in his heart
46:16all year long better than Ebenezer Scrooge.
46:27A bit of Christmas spirit
46:30A touch of Christmas cheer
46:33Spread a little every day
46:38Throughout the coming year
46:42Gifts on to the ones along
46:44And to your friends in need
46:48Throw away the breeze
46:51Keep Christmas in your heart
46:53Each day of the year
46:56When cold winds are blowing
46:59When skies are sunny and clear
47:03Keep Christmas in your heart
47:05Each day of the year
47:08Each day of the year
47:12Money fills your pockets
47:15But can it fill your heart
47:18If you don't give some away
47:23The perfect place to start
47:27Makes somebody happy
47:30That's what love is for
47:33That's what love is for
47:33You'll end up having more
47:35Keep Christmas in your heart
47:38Each day of the year
47:41When cold winds are blowing
47:44When skies are sunny and clear
47:47Keep Christmas in your heart
47:50Each day of the year
47:54Giving Christmas in your heart
47:57Giving Christmas in your heart
48:11Each day of the year
48:15When cold winds are blowing
48:17When cold winds are blowing
48:18When skies are sunny and clear
48:21It's Christmas in your heart
48:23Each day of the year
48:29You'll sooner notice
48:29Next day of the year
48:30Letting Christmas in your heart
48:30That's what love is for
48:30Because if loving Christmas in your heart
48:32Each day of the year
48:33You'll be finding my heart
48:33Diese life
