Sudan War: UN officials sound alarm on humanitarian crisis

As the conflict in Sudan approaches the three year mark, the humanitarian conditions on the ground remain dire. United Nations officials are once again sounding the alarm, at a time when much of the world's attention is focused on the war in the Middle East.

00:00As the conflict in Sudan approaches its three-year mark, the humanitarian conditions on the ground remain dire.
00:07The war has claimed tens of thousands of lives, forced more than 11 million people from their homes,
00:13and triggered what the United Nations describes as the world's largest hunger crisis.
00:18Officials from the UN continue to sound the alarm and voice concern that the world does not seem to care.
00:25Three years of war in Sudan have created the world's largest humanitarian crisis.
00:30The conflict has ravaged livelihoods, uprooted communities, and driven millions of people into hunger.
00:36Famine still stalks parts of this country.
00:39Aid workers, trucks, and warehouses continue to come under attack,
00:43putting the lives of our colleagues at risk and disrupting our assistance.
00:49Yet for millions of people here in Sudan, WFP is the only lifeline.
00:54Every month, we reach around 4 million people with food and nutrition support.
01:00This assistance saves lives, it keeps families going, and it holds communities together.
01:07The conflict broke out in 2023 between the Sudanese army and paramilitary rapid support forces.
01:13The UN has launched an appeal to raise $2.9 billion for the country, but it's only 16% covered.
